Raid Shadow Legends Ally Protection Skill is a skill that allows a champion to mitigate a portion of the incoming damage received by allies to himself. This prevents champions who have low base Health and Defense from getting knocked out from enemy nuke attack!
This skill is commonly found on HP Champions to aid the survivability of all allies in battle. The Champion who casts Ally Protection takes 25/50% of direct damage inflicted upon the allied buffed champion. Self-inflicted damage, HP Burn and Poison do not trigger this effect. Each Champion uses their respective defense stats to mitigate the damage. If an enemy steals Ally Protection buff from your champion, the champion who casts the Ally Protection will now absorb the damage received by the enemy who stole it until the buff expires. There are 2 versions of Ally Protection buff (25% and 50%).

@degi: Margrave Greenhawk has been added to the Ally Protection Champion list!
Margrave Greenhawk can be added to the 25% ally protection aoe
@Erebus Darken: Andryssia and Cagebound is now available in the Ally Protection champion list!
@PanamaKid: Kunoichi is now available in the Ally Protection champion list!
@stenbric: Trumborr is now available in the Ally Protection champion list!
From Trumborr:
“Wall of Muscle (Cooldown: 6 turns)
Places a 50% [Ally Protection] buff on all allies except this Champion for 2 turns. Places a 60% [Increase DEF] buff on this champion for 2 turns.
Level 2: Cooldown -1
Level 3: Cooldown -1”
Love your site, got alot of useful information from it!
Kunoichi should be added here.
Andryssia has a single target 50% on her passive and Cagebound has aoe 25% on his a3…
@Andrew: I checked Old Hermit Jorrg skills in-game and I couldn’t find any skills that apply Ally Protection buff. Could it be you’re referring to a different champion?
I just pulled Old Hermit Jorrg yesterday. He has HP Burn & also Ally Protection skills. Apparently Planarium gave him a buff some time after Oct 21 last year.
Since it has been found that Critical Damage increases the damage taken by the champ that casts Ally Protect (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTrBoI81-LQ), would it be worthwhile to include this info here? And maybe update the masteries of all these champs to remove Keen Strike?
@Kryo: I have corrected Canoness’s application from AoE to Target. Thanks!
@RelativeNewbie: Kyoku has been added to the Ally Protection champion list!
@all: Ally Protection champion list has been updated with the addition of Kyoku and Broodlord.
Hello Ms. Ayumilove,
I know she’s very new (and VERY BA), but please add Kyoku to the AoE 50% Ally Protection category.
Canoness has single target (Target champ) Ally Protection, not AoE Ally Protection.
@Völskrjev: The Ally Protection is calculated differently for Guardian Set, Ally Protection and Bulwark. Hence, they are not really stacking with one another. Guardian Set reduces damage taken by allies in all forms including Poison/HP Burn damage, whereas Ally Protection and Bulwark mitigates direct damage inflicted by the enemies.
Does Guardian Set + Ally Protection + Bulwark marstery Stacks ?
@Kleyton Silva: Any champion who provides Ally Protection Buff and equipped with Retaliation Set will not proc the retaliation against the enemy who attacks the ally who has Ally Protection buff. The damage taken by Captain Temila from damage mitigated by Ally Protection Buff will not proc Retaliation Set.
@Ayumilove My question is kinda a follow up on @Dmitrijs Grigorjevs, Let’s say I have a Captain Temila on a Retaliation set, after Temila throws Ally protection, can her retaliation set proc when other champions receive damage (and therefore she receives damage as well). Or the retaliation set won’t proc because that is not considered a hit, it is only damage tanken.
@MaviAdam: I would not recommend using Doompriest for Ultra Nightmare Clan Boss if you want to achieve 30M damage.
@Fred: I have added Ursuga Warcaller into the list above!
Shouldn’t the new Barb Lego Ursuga be here also?
Hello Ayumilove,
Can you help my team for UNM, i used this Jareg but didnt work, always same damage 🙁
Vizier, Draco, Martry, Doompriest, Jareg, can you rebuild my team for 30M damage?
Send me a mail please, thanks.
@Penoss: Thanks for the additional info. I have updated into the guide above for clarity on Ally Protection buff.
From the Plarium forum:
[Ally Protection]. The Caster Champion takes 25/50% of direct damage inflicted upon the Target Champion. Self-inflicted damage and Poison do not trigger this effect. Each Champion uses their respective DEF values for mitigating damage.
@Snowballz: I have a similar question. Would the mastery retribution trigger if for example Miscreated Monster takes damage from Ally Protection?
Hey! I was wondering, does the damage received by the buffer count as an attack/hit ?
For instance, would it be potentially triggering a frost set if the buffer was not the initial target and only taking damage from the ally under ally protection?
My idea would be to equip a frost set on the champ with an ally protection skill to maximize the probabilities of triggering freeze debuffs on enemies while they’re attacking any member of the team! That would be way to strong
Thanks for your work, that’s impressive hehe 🙂
Mistreated Monster and Scyl of the Drakes both have fifty percent ally protection.
@jasonix I have been wondering the same question. How does defense play a part in how ally protection damage is mitigated? From my limited testing, I think that the damage is split off before the defense of the champion being hit has a chance to reduce it. For example, my miscreated monster while running in Mino 15 had ally protection up on a single ally. The alky had defense of 4k, and MM has defense of 1400. The ally being targeted was taking 1200 dmg, while MM was taking 4k. Made me wonder why most people focus heavily on health and not worry as much about defense while running a ally protection champ
The list of champions for ally protection disappeared 🙁
@Moguara: I have replied to Tpod, you can see my answer below 🙂
@Tpod: Jareg will take the damage if he places Ally Protection after Skullcrusher within the same turn. It’s best to apply Ally Protection in different turns, especially for Clan Boss to mitigate the damage from 1 tank to the other tank. For example, in Clan Boss (Brutal or Nightmare) Skullcrusher applies the Ally Protection (being the slowest in the team). Then, the next turn, Jareg applies his Ally Protection buff to all other allies, this time to protect the weaken Skullcrusher who took the first initial AoE hit from Clan Boss.
I’m also curious about Tpod question.
Btw thanks for the good work.
What happens if a second champion applies an ally protection buff? For instance, if my jareg places the buff after my skullcrusher. Who will get the damage?
@FenrisVargr: Clan Boss stun does have effect on Skullcrusher. Although Skullcrusher passive can remove it, it does not reduce the skill cooldown. I have tested this with my Skullcrusher in Clan Boss Brutal and Nightmare.
@Prophessiah: The champion who casts Ally Protection to his allies will be able to absorb the incoming damage on behalf of them. Example, if enemy attacked the ally champion with Ally Protection damage for 100 damage, the champion who casts the Ally Protection receives half of the damage (100 / 2 = 50). The half damage is reduced by the champion’s defense before being absorbed directly to his HP. There are other calculations that needs to be accounted for such as Weak vs Strong affinity. If the enemy is a weaker affinity towards the champion who casts Ally Protection, there is a 30% chance of that damage becoming a Weak Hit. A Weak Hit deals half of the incoming damage. If it triggers, that means the damage received (which is 50 in this example) is further reduced by half again (25 now) before being reduced by the Defense Stat.
I am not sure to really understand which defense applies to the buffer…
Is it the one of the buffer or the one of the buffed :
Is it splitted and the buffed hero uses his own def and the buffer hero his own def as well?
And about the affinity, is it the same?
Thanks
@Dmitrijs Grigorjevs: Yes, it does work. May I know what is your concern for having Retaliation Set with Ally Protection?
Does Retaliation set works with ally protection?
Jasonix, keep in mind that Skullcrusher has a passive that will remove CB’s one turn stun at the start of his turn so it has no effect on him.
Hey i’m thinking about using skullcrusher and Rearguard Sergeant in my defense cb comp. I’m playing bulwark as lead and hope to shift the stun aim to him even with weak affinity for skullcrusher. Now i should have def up and ally protection and continues heal on everyone while he stuns. So basically with weak affinity it should still focus bulwark hopefully. Now i have a question. Does the ally protection first use the defense of those reciving dmg and then the defense of himself? Or only the defense of the reciving one counts and skulls def is doesn’t matter? Thank you in Advance :*
@Aeoch: The direct incoming damage from enemy that is AoE will be reduced 30% by Stalwart set. The damage transferred by Ally Protection is considered damage mitigated from ally rather than AoE from enemy, therefore will not be deducted by Stalwart set. Stalwart set is best used on revivers akka resurectors such as Arbiter, so she is the last person standing to revive everyone.
If the ally being protected with Ally Protection buff receives aoe damage, is it considered aoe damage to the soaking hero? I am wondering if Stalwart will mitigate 30% of damage received from champions getting hit with ally protection on them.
