Deacon Armstrong Reference

Below is a reference of the artifacts equipped on Deacon Armstrong optimized for an attack build while crowd-controlling enemies using Stun Set. These artifacts prioritize achieving a high amount of ATK%, Critical Rate, Critical Damage, Speed, and Accuracy. However, the most important stat for Deacon Armstrong would be having Accuracy and Speed. He needs Accuracy to inflict the Leech debuff, Decrease Defense debuff and apply Decrease Turn Meter on enemies, while Speed allows him to cycle through his skills quickly, which also means that he can use his AoE skill much more often to Stun enemies simultaneously with the Stun Set! Once you have better gears for Deacon Armstrong, you can either build him for Attack Build (high Critical Rate and Attack) or Defense Build (higher HP and Defense) depending on the champions you have to synergize with him.

Deacon Armstrong Champion Lore

Willem Armstrong was born into a Kaerokian family of noble repute, but while his parents assumed he would follow in their footsteps as a knight of the realm, he showed a different inclination. As a child, Willem found the greatest pleasure in listening to the stories told by the family’s Lumayan priest, Halmar. Halmar told Willem tales of the Goddess of Light, regaling him with fantastical stories about the Dances of Creation and the righteous wars against the goddess’ treacherous once-suitor, Siroth the Shadow God.

As a young student, Willem enjoyed penning thoughts inspired by Halmar’s stories, and gave impromptu sermons to bemused classmates in his school yard. Halmar rejoiced that his charge seemed to have found a calling, and while Willem’s parents were not gladdened by the realization that their son would not follow in his father’s footsteps, they were devout people, and in time rejoiced that their son was embracing the worship of Lumaya so wholeheartedly. Halmar introduced Willem to the Sacred Order, who accepted him into their ranks. Willem immediately found himself at home among the holy organization’s firebrands, and became apprentice to the infamous Deacon Mailen, a ferocious old sermonizer who harbored a deep hatred of non-Humans even for a senior member of the Order. According to his tenets, Lumaya had chosen humanity as her divine instrument, and it was their destiny to one day rule all of Teleria. While Armstrong never went as far as Mailen publicly, as the zealot’s favored acolyte it was difficult to imagine his views substantially differed.

While preaching was Armstrong’s first calling, he also found battle to be a natural outlet for the zealotry that had become part of every facet of his life. He was always the first to volunteer when the Sacred Order sent its dedicated knights and warriors to hunt down the forces of Darkness and when he returned his mace was caked in gore. Willem proudly scorned every wound and injury he suffered at the hands of the unrighteous, seeing them as evidence of the strength of his faith and claiming that surviving his injuries only made him more certain of his own cause as well as Lumaya’s protection.

As the years wore on, Mailen became too decrepit to preach in public. Armstrong acted as his voice, his booming orations doing the old deacon proud. When Mailen passed away, It was Armstrong who delivered the final address to the crowds of faithful mourners at the man’s funeral. Soon afterwards, Willem was promoted to Mailen’s former role.

Deacon Armstrong remains a potent force within the Sacred Order. His sermons are famous and draw great crowds from across Anhelt and beyond. The speeches follow the same pattern – reminding listeners of their sin, whipping them into a frenzy, then claiming that their displays of devotion are proof that Lumaya’s Light still burns within and that with prayer and donations it can blaze anew. Some state that Armstrong is a dangerous radical trying to upset the delicate political balance of Anhelt, though few within the Sacred Order would ever dream of reprimanding such a staunch proponent of their beliefs. Others think him a hypocrite who does not truly believe what he preaches. But there will be no clemency for any who make such a claim in the deacon’s presence. Even with his years now advancing, any non-believer struck by a blow from Armstrong is unlikely to survive long enough to receive a second.

@Inpulsive: You could have Evil Eye mastery on your Deacon Armstrong.

  2. Inpulsive

noticed that he decreases turn meter with hes a1 bit theres nothing like that said in any of the skills how come?!

  3. Ayumilove Post author

@Caitlin: I have added Deacon’s rating for Iron Twins.

  4. Ayumilove Post author

@Jesse: You can go with Phantom Touch, Cruelty or Commanding Presence for Deacon’s blessings.

  5. Jesse

What blessing should I go with for him?

  6. Caitlin

Deacon doesn’t have a rating for the iron twins?

  7. Keenan Mann

@zoka, if you messed up the masteries for him just reset them you get one free reset per hero, it costs 150 diamonds after that. Just click on the little Circle arrow in the top corner of your mastery menu

  8. Mopheadzz

My current cb team is kael, bad el, draco, ultimate DK, and ninja. Should I sub in deacon somewhere?

  9. Inkisitor

@Dindae I think he went with Charged focus would make easier or more probable that you reduce the enemy’s team Turn meter, and in arena, that’s a huge thing to do. And deacon, he’s pretty useful overall, but his A3 for arena is superb

  10. madtweak

this guy is sometimes my last guy alive in arena vs most the other team and still pulls out wins

  11. Athalos

Why Deacon isn’t legendary is beyond me. He is a beast. I got him and he’s been wrecking ever since

  12. Zoka

Thx i have found your tutorial for mastery and made reset

  13. Zoka

Hello. 1St Ayumylove thx for great guide. I am a noob in game and you did help me a lot. I had a luck to get Deacon but I have make I belive big mistake. In masteries I have started support field sam as you advice but for 2nd field from idk what reason i have chose defence with tough skin, blastproof and rejuvenation. i did not understand skills good and English is not mine 1st languge. Is he usable champ any more and in what direction should I now focus regarding gear? I have just 2 days ago made him 6 star. Thank you so much

  14. Dindae

Wouldn’t “Exalt in Death” be a better mastery than “Charged Focus”? Since his A3 grants an extra turn, anytime he uses his A1 or A2, his A3 should always be on cool down.

  15. Guille

    Genial !!el material.buenisimo
    Felicitaciones!!
    Me encanta!!
    Sigan así.
    Saludos

  16. Kevin Paterson

    Relentless Gear?
I think any champ with “extra turn” is a good candidate for Relentless. Extra turn added ontop of the Extra turn.

@John: Deacon Armstrong is a Warmaiden+. His AoE Def Down has the same multiplier as Warmaiden’s. While his Atk is not as high, he’s also pumping your team’s turn meter AND dumping the entire enemy team’s meter at the same time, On The Same Turn. His higher Def also means he’ll last a lot longer than Warmaiden. Plus, he’s got the same Aura as High Khatun, so he’s a strong aura lead. Give him lots of speed, set him up to start, and he goes A3 + A2 on the first turn, then you can pump your team with a pair of buffers and still have time for your nuker to slam the other team. This also works in dungeon waves. He’s just too good.

  18. John

I’m using armstrong instead of warmaiden for arena but Idk if he is much better since warmaiden has a LOT more attack. Please advise.

@Tammy: I have updated Deacon Armstrong’s viability till the late game. Thanks!

  20. Tammy

He should be put as late game for viability too. He’s just too good not to be.

  21. Ayumilove Post author

@Erny J.R.C.: I have added Stun Set to the recommended equipment list for Deacon Armstrong 🙂

  22. Ayumilove Post author

@John: I have updated Deacon Armstrong mastery names to match according to the image. Thanks!

  23. John

The names of the Offense skill set do not match the names of each skill you have highlighted underneath Keen Strike

  24. Erny J.R.C.

stun set all the way, 2turn cycle cooldown, Try it Ayumi-san :3

  25. The pvon

    @Pendekar Viral

I have one also. In these videos and info they will refer to things once booked. After the use of tomes on the time compression this becomes a 3 turn cooldown. Deacon also is granted an extra turn each time. Very solid epic that so far in my view exceeds what I see in many legendaries.

  26. Pendekar Viral

    Time Compression (Cooldown: 5 turns)

I just pull one today. Both his A2 and A3 have 4 turns cooldown.
I think Playrium nerf and buff back recently especially for the A3.

  27. Luk

lol I just pulled second one 🙂 should I max him too?

  28. Ron Shuker

Just a quick update on my last comment – he is super good I booked his a2 and a3 but didnt go far enough to book the a1 because the cooldown on his a2 and a3 is what important for me

  29. Marcus

Game changing hero. Took me barely beating spider 18 to easily beating spider 20.

  30. Ron Shuker

@Pir – First of all, that was a perfect answer actually because I have apoth full booked and 6*, HK and warmaiden are on my dungeons team together so now as you said a slot is now available for my fifth champ.
Secondly, I also got royal guard but this early in the game I dont know if I want to invest him so my books I think are going to Deacon.

  31. Michael

Crazy good book him 6 star him.

I’m missing him in the ranking list

  32. Pir

@Ron Shuker — Nobody can really answer that question for you, because it always depends on whom you already have, where you are in the game, and where you need help with progression.

Here’s what he does for my F2P account: He’s a Warmaiden / High Khatun combo; the one thing he’s missing over them is a speed boost. But for that I can throw somebody else into the team (like Apothecary), since by combining the Warmaiden and the HK tasks, I’ve freed up a slot. I’ll put him in a Stun set, and go to town. He’s Spirit, so he’s strong where Warmaiden is weak; I can pick whoever works better in any given situation.

And that’s just the Arena — the Leech he has will be very useful elsewhere, such as in DT. He’s going to be one of my best champs. He’s a well-designed Epic, I’d say, so yeah, he gets my books (what there are of them, *sigh*).

  33. Ron Shuker

Just pulled that guy from an ancient shard and as a f2p I want to waste my books as I should so my question is he worth it?

  34. Ozzynoob

I have him 5 starred in my arena team and I totally love him. Also I plan to 6 star and use in dungeons as soon as I can because he rotates his 3 skills every two turns due to the extra turn gained, so I think with a proper stun set he’s going to be massive. 100% upkeep armor down and turn meter boost every second turn, and aoe stuns as well? Sign me up! I love him.

  35. Robert Power

I agree about the comment regarding the arena and Deacon’s ability. seems like it should be a five star. I just pulled m from a blue gem. Fire night I’m looking forward to as well. I am very excited about going to the arena with him but I’m not sure how hard he hits. I only have him at level 52 and haven’t ascended yet or supplied with artifacts. Speed obviously is always good. The a1 is good with the leach. I was thinking about putting my relentless sets that I have not used after winning a few arena classic groups. I could use some suggestions on what might be paired with the Deacon as well. I’ll wait a day or two before artifacting.

  36. Skadi

Why is his arena rating so low? I would suggest this is his best part in the game. He is like a Warmaiden that can manipulate turnmeter before the def debuff is cast, with additional speed-aura and great base speed of 100. Everything in his kit just shouts out the word “arena”.
