Soulless Champion Lore

The being now known only as the Soulless was once known as Sir Ector. A stern and strong knight of the Free City of Delanos, Sir Ector became a member of the Cult of K’Leth during its early years and rose quickly to the inner circle of the Knights Revenant. Though not a cruel or vindictive man, Ector believed in the hierarchical nature of his society and that low-borns should know their place, a stance that made him a natural fit among the higher ranks of the Cult.

For hundreds of years Sir Ector lived as a Knight Revenant, his soul being transposed into a new body as the last grew old, sick, or battle-injured. A tireless warrior, Ector was regarded highly by his fellow Knights Revenant — not only for his skill in combat, but for his generalship and strategic wit and vision. Often the first choice as leader when the Cult of K’Leth was forced to do battle, his rise to prominence might well have continued were it not for the infamous Battle of Mournsorrow. The Aravian authorities learned that the Cult had made the forlorn site, in an untamed land, a stronghold, and dispatched a force to drive it out. Their attack came at the time when a number of Knights were going through the critical stages of a soul transposition ceremony. Sir Ector was among them. Cultists fell to Elven spears and swords. Elves were hacked down with Cult axes and cudgels. Were it not for the ruthless cool of the Soul Shepherd leading the ceremony, who rallied the Cultists and organized the defense against the surprise attack, the Elves would surely have been victorious.

Despite the Cult’s victory, the damage done by the interruption to Ector and the other Knights Revenant was devastating. Caught during mid-transference, their souls failed to lodge properly in their new host bodies. The other Knights Revenant perished, but Ector clung on to life, a sliver of his being having successfully pierced the essence of his new host. But while he was able to draw slowly back from the brink of death, he found himself forever changed.

Sir Ector was no more. Most of his soul was gone. He had only the vaguest memories of his past, just ghostly half-recollections that he feared were mere products of his imagination. From that day forth, the Knight Revenant once known as Sir Ector became known as the Soulless. The draining of so much of Ector’s soul has left little of the former man behind. But some still remains: his disdain for those he considers his lessers can be heard in his miserable ramblings, and he has lost none of his combat prowess. Even so, his existence is one with little emotion, a gray and desolate realm of which he is a lonely king. Free of emotion, immune to pain, and protected by his heavy enchanted armor, Ector is immovable on the battlefield, and he gives his mountain-like defense a wicked edge with the hacking of his great war ax.

The bitter existence of the Soulless is alleviated only when he can claim the souls of others, often in the midst of battle — then he can experience second-hand those last fleeting sensations of raw emotion, potent draughts of fear and terror. In an effort to feast on these feelings and regain the emotions he has lost, he distorts soul gem magic to snare and imprison the souls of his foes into his weapons and armor, snagging them during combat and storing them up to experience their feelings at his leisure. Their tormented agony is still visible in the warped faces and clawing hands that adorn his shield and breastplate, their horror-stricken images feeding the Soulless and reminding him that, against the odds, he still lives and can still feel. The spirits he binds within his armor fade over time, and so the Soulless finds himself on an eternal quest, collecting the darkest of emotions as he tries in vain to fill his meaningless existence.

The utility he brings for end-game bosses is “Increase debuff duration”, like for Poison or HP Burn, or any of Decrease Atk/Def/Spd/Acc/Res.

Plus he has a pretty reliable Provoke (in my experience) for that annoying Hydra head.

  2. SLATT

It’s kind of annoying that he brings so little to the table in endgame bossfights, given the majority of them have immunity to stun and provoke. They could have at least given him drop def, poison, or something else to let him bring some level of utility. For a void legendary, which are incredibly rare and hard to pull, he’s kind of underwhelming imo. Good for arena and any levels with lots of waves, though.

  3. Noone

I haven’t had the luck to pull Soulless yet but if I do I plan to have Aothar and Taurus instantly load enemies up with 8 poison debuffs, followed by Soulless’s already hard hitting Reign of Terror AOE thus empowered with 80% more damage and him extending the poisons, to be followed by a poison detonator, who then deals all the poison damage at once, dealing the death blow to any survivors.

Presuming I live long enough to pull all those guys on one account! Bahaha.

  4. Grey Mane

I would like to see a Mastery Chart for Soulless. He was my 1st Lego and I am still not sure what to do with him.

  5. Soulless is better than you think

The in-game skill description of his A2 (Wave of Despair) actually has a mistake. It has a 75% chance to remove ALL buffs on hit, not just one.

  6. Caleb Tovera

@Musashi I got him in savage and speed. crit dmg gloves and amulet both 6star with 109 crit rate. Hes the hardest hitting DEF based champ with Ignatius considering if their both booked. Unbooked their tied. But he hits harder with more debuffs on the enemy on his Reign of Terror. A cool champ but for arena hes definitly outclassed by atk nukers most notibly Trunda. Foli I believe could also put out more dmg than him. He shines in faction wars and probably doom tower as well.

  7. Musashi

Put him in savage with high defence and critical damage and watch him destroy teams.

  8. Walazard

Currently Soulless is a little bugged. His A2 is applying Provoke even if no buffs get removed.

As for masteries, I am using Support and Defence cos I am using him as Arena tank, but if you are going to be using him mainly in dungeons, you can absolutely justify going Sup + Off. My build is:

Support: Pinpoint Accuracy – Charged Focus – Shield Bearer – Arcane Celerity – Healing Savior (can be replaced by Swarm Smiter if you are struggling with ACC) – Cycle of Magic – Lore of Steel – Lasting Gifts

Defence: Tough Skin – Rejuvination – Resurgent – Harves Dispair – Retribution – Deterrence – Fearsome Presence

But build what works for you

    Please add mastery guide

  10. veldranz

i’ve a doubt with his A2, it seems it remove ALL buff on each ennemy hit. not 3 buff in total but up to 3 ennemy? Am I right?

  11. Mephistopholes

Souless you have no mastery chart on him plz help

  12. Mike

Is there a suggested Mysteries for Soulless?

  13. Daeurn

@Ayumilove: Thanks for the quick fix on the equipment guide section! Any chance you could create a Mastery guide section for us?

@karl von bahnhoff: I have seem Soulless in Arena dominating my Arena Offense team when he is synergized with the right team members. His Stun and Provoke skills are the main highlight of his capabilities.

  15. Ayumilove Post author

@Daeurn: I have fixed Soulless equipment guide section. Thanks!

  16. Daeurn

Under your equipment guide section, both are listed as “Clan Boss, Dungeons.” Can you fix, please?

  17. karl von bahnhoff

    Hello, Ayumilove

I would recommend using Soulless in Clan Boss with Aothar. While Aothar puts 4 poisons for 2 turns Soulless’ A3 adds another turn.

On the other hand, never used him in arena, maybe i should. 🙂

@Morten Holstebro: I’ll pick Lifesteal Set and Speed Set as he will be my primary campaign farmer and Arena Offense attacker.

  19. Morten Holstebro

It says clan boss and dungeons on both equipment guide sets. Which setup in terms of gear would you prefer on an account, with only 1 lvl 60?

  20. Bu11et4myZombie

Any possibility on a Masteries list?

  21. 2much4u

this guy is amazing in spider. run two coldhearts and his provoke will carry your team

  22. DoobieDude

Can you post a Masteries suggestion list?

  23. Athfenril

    @Ayumilove.
    Thanks a ton.
I’ve done some play testing, as i have plenty of squishy teammates to carry through all parts of the game (exept CB).

It appears that the provoke does not rely on enemy buffs. I’ve run him in Spiders, dragons, FK, IG, and since he throws his A3 AOE provoke first, the AI usually doesn’t put up any buffs. And the his A2 hits 1-3 champions and has a 75 chance to remove debuffs/provoke. But here it seems that the provoke happens no matter what.

In Arena the remove buff sometimes doesn’t apply, (according to the 75% described in the skill), I haven’t seen the provoke activate without the buff removal. But I’ll keep an eye out.

@Athfenril: Soulless is a Legendary Champion whose skills are mostly specialized in Crowd Control enemies in battle via Provoke while providing survivability support to his allies via Shield Buff. This champion is primarily used to carry his squishy team mates through the 2 waves of enemies before getting to the Boss and his work is complete. The bad thing about his Crowd Control is it requires enemies to have some buff he can remove, so it will trigger the Provoke. Otherwise, it will not Provoke the enemies. There are many Epic and Rare champions that can perform his role without such nuisance condition, therefore making him slightly less favored compared to other champions within the same rarity. Since the Arena has many champions that puts up buff, this makes Soulless viable there. Legendary Skill Tomes are hard to come by unless P2W (Pay to Win) who can invest in him to bring up all his skills to the maximum potential. I would recommend keeping the Legendary Skill Tomes for other champions unless you wish to see him at his best capabilities.

    Hey AyumiLove.

Really appreciate your site and all the work you but into it. There is very little to none information online about Souless, except the linked video. Just pulled this guy and was hoping to find some guidelines of how to use him. Most forums just trashtalk but i have a feeling he could have some potential in a lot of the content. I’m really in doubt with regards to the masteries, but maybe you can pull some threads.? I saw Stewgaming has him and he often praises your site. Would really appreciate some help on this one as I think he could be a great asset.

    Regards …
