Kantra the Cyclone Review

Kantra the Cyclone is a Legendary Defense Force affinity champion from the Barbarians faction in Raid Shadow Legends. Her introduction to the game was met with great excitement, as players found her fusion to be one of the most achievable ever offered.

Kantra’s abilities were nothing short of impressive. She boasted an A2 that could inflict multiple debuffs on enemies, making her a formidable force on the battlefield. Additionally, her passive ability allowed her to heal every time a debuff wore off on an enemy, making her one of the best tanks in Raid.

Kantra’s abilities were not limited to mere offensive power, as she also provided great utility in the Doom Tower. Her unique ability to land debuffs even on weak hits made her a reliable choice for any fight in the tower, regardless of affinity. Furthermore, Kantra was a valuable asset in taking down the head of Decay in Hydra, as she could reliably provoke it every time she took a turn, provided there were enough debuffs present.

In conclusion, Kantra the Cyclone was a legendary champion whose abilities made her a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Her impressive debuffing capabilities, coupled with her healing passive and unique ability to play in any fight in the Doom Tower, made her an invaluable asset to any player lucky enough to acquire her. Raid Shadow Legends would forever be marked by her arrival, and her legend would live on in the memories of players for years to come.

Kantra the Cyclone Champion Lore

Kantra the Cyclone is a figure straight out of the old songs. Even a novice bard knows enough tales about her to keep a crowd entertained all night, and still have hours of material left unsung long after the inn doors close. She epitomizes the ideal of the Norr shieldmaiden, with incredible strength, courage to the point of arrogance, and a mouth more foul than a Sorrowlakes saltmarsh. For all that, few realize that the real Kantra the Cyclone is no Norr at all — but a Human born in the Free City of Tilshire.

Kantra’s family were wealthy merchants, having made a fortune supporting ocean trade between the Elven kingdom of Aravia, Velyzar the Arena City, and the rest of the world. While nominally independent, Tilshire’s extreme proximity to Aravia gives the Elven kingdom huge sway over the Free City’s politics, and Elven fashions are followed by the city’s elite, Kantra’s family no less than any other. They expected her to grow up to be a woman of grace like her sisters, with refined tastes akin to that of an Elven maiden. What her family got was anything but – Kantra was rambunctious, combative, and untidy. Her family tried for years to secure a profitable matrimonial match, but Kantra scared off — or assaulted — any suitor who they considered. Giving up any hope for their daughter, Kantra’s family sent her off to the Tilshire Merchant Marines. A wise choice for them, though it would inflict Kantra upon the rest of the world.

Though the training for the Merchant Marines saw Kantra’s combat skill develop, her muscles harden, and her ax-arm strengthen, she chafed under the harsh discipline of a ship at sea. She was almost grateful when a vessel of Non raiders attacked her ship. While she fought valiantly, Kantra was overwhelmed and taken prisoner, along with the rest of the surviving crew. Impressed with her prowess in battle, as well as the coarseness of her language, the raiders offered her a place among their ranks. Given the opportunity to escape her rigid life in the Merchant Marines, and live a life of true adventure, Kantra agreed with enthusiasm.

It is from there that the tales of Kantra begin in earnest. They speak of an eye lost in a bar brawl. Bounties on her head from every corner of the world, from Delanos to Yakai. An ax won from a Demonspawn prince, whom she stabbed with a blade concealed in her wrist-guard. A shield once carried by a captain of a Skyiron Navy frigate, which she stormed single-handed. She is said to have lovers of all kinds in every port in Teleria, and ten times as many enemies. Kantra became known as the Cyclone because her ferocity matches that of a storm.

That Kantra has become a sword-vassal of the Arbiter herself is a surprise to exactly no-one who hears of it. She has done everything else — so it is only natural that she would pledge herself to save the world. What other way to best the stories already told of her?

Kantra the Cyclone Storyline

Boisterous and jovial, Kantra, nicknamed ‘Cyclone’ for her wild fighting technique, is among the most renowned mercenaries in Aravia. Though young, she had seen much in her life, and her origins inspired many a minstrel to compose ballads and songs of various degrees of propriety. For while she looks, fights, and behaves like a Barbarian from the East, Kantra is not, in fact, one of them. She was born to a small, destitute noble family in Southern Tilshire. Her father, a dishonourable and greedy man, was largely to blame for the family’s troubles. His gambling habits quickly saw debts mount beyond what even a noble could manage, and he hoped that a suitable marriage would help him handle loans. All that remained was ensuring his daughter would be proper and obedient enough to accept whatever old moneybag offered the most for her beauty.
Kantra, as it often goes in these tales, would have none of it. She was always a free spirit, inspired by legends of warrior queens and noble knights, eager to learn the art of the blade. Though her father forbade it, the young noble sought out every opportunity that her backwater little town could provide – which were few and far between. That could not go on forever; when tension finally erupted in violent conflict, Kantra fled her home and her father’s abuses. In retrospect, it was an unwise decision that could have led to her death. But fortune smiled upon her, and Kantra’s path crossed that of a Barbarian mercenary band. It comprised warriors born to the same Clan, whose honour meant more to them than the ransom a highborn captive could bring. They took Kantra in, taught her to fight, taught her to live as free as the spirits of the wind. Thus the would-be warrior cast aside the trappings of her old life and embraced her adoptive culture with enthusiasm that never failed to amuse her mentors. She grew up strong, wilful, always eager for a challenge and far too keen on punching well over her head. One such scrap nearly cost Kantra her life; she picked a fight with a gaggle of orc sellswords over some minor insult one of those drunken louts uttered. By the end of it, the tavern was trashed, most orcs were dead or scattered into the town, and Kantra was down one eye. She was forced to flee before the insulted thugs had a chance to gather more of their friends to avenge their humiliation at the hands of the brash young human. Now, many stories of a hero’s origins will speak of how a brush with death teaches an arrogant warrior restraint and respect. For good or ill, Kantra is nothing like those heroes. She remains as foul-mouthed, as haughty, and as wild as ever, and the fight that cost her an eye is one of her favourite bragging subjects rather than a cautionary tale for the young. Albeit, in fairness, Kantra’s skills grew tenfold since that day, and she had bested countless challengers – certainly enough to solidify her reputation. And while it is a dangerous life she leads, always walking on a razor’s edge, always risking everything for the sake of excitement or pride, Kantra relishes every moment. Indeed, why would she change when a life of high adventure, full of dangers and glory, is more intoxicating than the finest Aravian wine?

  1. Shy of dropbears clan

She was once relegated to my FW team. She was tested in IG and Dragon but never found a spot.

I think she needs to be updated for Hydra, with her Provoke if enemies are under 5 or more debuffs she is now good for Hydra. Add to that that her debuffs can go on weak hits, she’s effectively never the wrong affinity. The amount of debuffs she puts out, and then the bonus steal buff, has made her join my best team with a PB of 95M on Hydra Hard.

    Don’t sleep on her.

  2. Slayer

Now that I have had the chance to user her, I am impressed. She is even soloing Campaigns on Nightmare level. Anyone that can do that should be A Tier not B Tier. I have her in Lifesteal and Divine Speed and she is a right little powerhouse. So far she is good at whatever I get her to do, including being a vital team player in the Arena. Fully booked, 6*, level 16 equipment and nearly has all her Masteries.

All this and she only has one eye!!! Amazing what you can achieve even without binocular vision to judge distances.

  3. Slayer

Just got this lady in the Christmas crystal event so thought I had better build her up. I thought her A2 was going to hand out some pretty useful buffs but hey, she is handing out up to 15 buffs per turn!!! Amazing. She smites the enemy and they are all suddenly full of buffs which last for two turns. Nice. I think I will max this one as she is proving very useful in the team. Gives the team smiters a chance to take them down more easily.

  4. Gauner199

Thank you for that awesome site as I use it a lot for the game! I appreciate what all is in there!
Kantra is shown with four stars for the Fireknight, but recommended as a level five opening recommendations for Fireknight. So is she 4 or 5 on fireknight? Thanks in advance!

  5. Arkkinite

    @Bearpaw

It will have to be her second turn. She applies a Provoke at the start of her turn i.e. just before she makes her move.

  6. Bearpaw

Is it worth slapping her in a posion set to proc her taunt with a single A2?

  7. Chad

Kantra is great in Nightmare Campaign. Her ability to suppress block/steal heals from the bosses speeds up the runs so you can get the full 3 stars. (Some of them have to be completed quickly in order to get the 3rd star). I ran her with Monster and they barely took a scratch.

  8. Rui

Does her passive works on bosses? I’m thinking specifically in using decrease acc by 10 for each debuff on the Scarab of Doom Tower. Would it work? My Kantra right now is only level 50.

  9. Harris

I used to love saying how I have around 10 LEGOs but no dupes (among the 10, like 3 are useful), today I’ve met my first dupe and it’s Kantra. The first one I got is still in the vault and now I get a second one. Honestly don’t know what to do with her.

  10. Chris

Love this site, but I do think she’s worthy of an uptick to an A champ. The debuffs she lands are instrumental in my arena especially the block buffs before the other teams get their start. Sets you up for the win. I use her in doom tower as a lead (aura alone can be a difference maker) and FK with multi hits, heal reduction, weaken all after 3 turns when booked. Very useful champ for me.

  11. Ben

This is my first comment on your awesome site after a year in RAID. I feel compelled, Kantra is highly underrated in my honest opinion. She is my lead in all the doom tower battles, faction wars, almost all of the dungeons esp. spider, in nightmare campaigns she is end-game with Arbiter, and I use her as the guts in Arena Gold IV. Granted she is not Platinum Arena end-game, but she is such an incredibly solid all-rounder I disagree with B Rating. She is an A-Tier PLUS champion for her debuffs, her buff steal (that is awesome in so many settings) and because of her solid consistent performance and versatility against any opponent with her weak hits. Just saying, I have maxed my Kantra, books and all, and she is an absolute weapon – you won’t regret it.

  12. Netharis

I love the mixed reaction to Kantra, I have her in my arena team (solid Gold IV) to take out those unkillables and she got me through Spider 20 and I have her Masteries as shown above and kitted with 2 defence sets and a speed set. The ratings above look about right to me although I would never consider her for CB

  13. Osren

Kantra is one of my go-to Reds…. with her Aura “Increases Ally ACC in all Battles by 60” and her longevity in battles, I use her quite often for Arena Battles or any other place I need a crowd controller.

  14. Donald Eager

Well looks like she will be going to the vault…. I always get the worthless ones lol.

  15. Spotz

Kantra is listed in the5* section of the Fire Knight champions page, but her rating on here says 4*. Something needs to be updated. Thanks.

  16. Ayumilove Post author

@MaxBT: The mastery shown in the guide above is currently used by my Kantra (Level 60 fully ascended and booked). It worked for me for Faction Wars 20 and Dungeons 20. If it does not suit your playstyle, you are free to customize it based on where you want to deploy her.

  17. MaxBT

I believe her mastery is not precise, she is a defense type work as buff caster, defend & support would fit her better than attack & defend. Waste me 1 refresh because I followed above without a thought.

  18. Perico

She is a specialist in dealing with Roshcard, Skullcrown and all the Block damage and unkillable buffs in the arena. When getting the Increase Defense buff she can deal a lot of damage to Miscreated Monster.

And in Magic Keep she just makes the Boss a joke stealing the shield.

  19. Bofral

I agree with coffesmasher support tree seems much more effective for her

  20. Coffeemonster2

I think she’s better off with the support tree vs the Defense tree. Her kit is very dependent on landing debuffs. Her role is really crowd control and debuffing more than anything else. Cycling her turn meter faster when debuffs fall off is actually a very good strategy for her. I’m torn between helmsmasher, flawless execution, and oppressor for her T6 mastery.

I wouldn’t bother with Giant Slayer for her. I understand why you chose it for spiders, but it’s only one hit every 3 turns for her and she’s better off doing more crit damage to contain the crowds or acting more frequently (keeping that decrease speed consistently on the spider helps with TM control).

For arena and PVP I can see an argument for going down the defense tree, but there’s very little there that helps her primary function in PVE. Most people are going to want her as a spiderling or trash tank, having counterattaks, etc. doesn’t really add a lot of value.

I’d also argue that daze, stun, and frost sets may be better for her vs savage. She doesn’t heal if a sleep debuff falls off from your team hitting the target (unfortunately) but the 1 turn duration for those debuffs can be a decent amount of healing, especially in a dungeon like spiders and it will contribute to the odds of landing a 1 turn taunt for her, which is yet even more healing and more control. I’d treat her like the control specialist she is vs a jane of all trades.

  21. Ayumilove Post author

@Dave: If you do not have a good tank for Spider Dungeon 15~20, or a crowd control champion for Fire Knight Dungeon 15-20, then I would recommend to go for her. I have done some preliminary testing on her, she is quite tanky (able to solo Brutal Campaign at 5 Star Ascension with Level 12 basic 5-star equipment and with basic masteries). She deals very little damage compared to some Epic and Rare, therefore, I would emphasize gears that boost her skills, which is performing debuffing and crowd control with Provoke once the enemies reaches at least 5 debuffs. Kantra is also a disruptor too, being able to steal enemies buff (e.g. Unkillable, Increase Defense, Shield, Counter Attack) that prolongs their survivability.

If you are able to do Spider 20 and Fire Knight 20, then I would opt for Basher to disrupt enemy team’s skill because he can perform AoE increase skill cooldown by 2 turns (basically locking their skills for the first turn of the attack). I’ve encountered some Arena Gold I~IV Defense with Basher and he is good. Basically functioning like an Umbral Enchantress but without provoking/taunting ability.

  22. Arkkinite

    @Dave

I don’t think she is an Arena powerhouse, though I still use her in 3v3. She doesn’t nuke people but she still hurts, and she has enough staying to be a thorn on the enemies’ side. She is quite good at tanking spiders 20, and can be used else where in PvE content except CB.

Basher is only good in arena, but he is quite strong there. He isn’t fully “meta” though, as he is only useful when 1. you expect both teams to take a few turns (where his increase CD comes into play) and 2. you expect to go first, or at least your basher is sandwiched between the enemy team’s buffer/debuffer and their nuker to stop the nuker in its tracks.

  23. Dave

Can’t make a decision on fusion. Is she better than Basher? Help..

  24. Powdy

Kantra got me from Dragon 15(auto) to 17 auto and 20 manually, She got me from spider 13 to 16(auto) and from Silver1 Arena to Silver 2.5. She’s replacing Elhain in every case here (Apothecary, Miscreated Monster, Royal Guard, Coldhearth, (Reliquary Tender) are the others I use.
She deals less dmg then Elhain (about 70% of her with similar gear) but is way more tanky and In arena her a1 buffsteal is incredibly strong (she won 1vs3 for me in silver 2/3 battles by stealing heals and counterattack buffs, she always wins 1vs1 vs Miscreated Monster for example). I don’t have any defense buffs for her and she’s still worth using for me. Even against the clanboss she’s my best 5th option right now, for her accuracy aura (beats crypt king graal in overall team dmg by about 15%).

  25. Perico

@Cip: In my opinion, if you can get it, stun or freeze is much better option. The Debuff is the same, and it will take out of the game for one turn your enemy.
The key is if you can get enough speed to attack a lot (stun) or Kantra is going to be attacked a lot by her enemies (freeze). In both cases you’ll get the heal when the debuffs drop.
It’s a very fun champ. Very nice.

  26. Gunnar

    @notjeb
Retribution invokes Counter-Attack, not a new turn, so no, the passive likely does not proc.

  27. notjeb

    Vasq,

Do we know if Kantra’s passive activates if retribution is triggered? I think that makes the world of difference if so, and shifts the priority to defense instead of support.

Also, Kantra has a +60 accuracy aura, which more than makes up for the deficit by choosing to ignore the support tree.

  28. Nero

Look what hell hades did with her, shes 5 stars in arena offense and defense, she just nuked platinum teams with rotos away like they are made out of paper. She is THE rotos killer, she is a force champion and her a2 is made by purpose to kick the shi* out of rotos, because so many people complained that he is too strong. Just get a aoe deff down on the enemy, and than kantras a2, game over.

  29. Vasq

Why not support tree? Isnt her whole kit about landing those debuffs to gain dmg reduction/heals?

I think i skip this advice an go for support/offensive. Really think she will preform better that way

  30. Cip

I’m thinking of putting her in in a toxic set a 50% chance for another debuff would be very useful for provoking. Plus i have a question if she lands a poison from the toxic set is she going to heal after the poison drops?

  31. Deadbolt

I love the idea of combining Lifesteal with Kantra’s Passive which grants 1,250 HP for every debuff that falls off the enemy. She naturally doesn’t have high health, even though she’s supposed to be a tank. Simply by getting a decrease defense debuff, Kantra’s rendered very weak. To try and resolve this issue, I focused heavily on resistance with her, this therein safegaurds Kantra slightly more.

  32. Ayumilove Post author

@Aim: Could you kindly elaborate your reasoning for ranking Kantra as B tier?

  33. Aim

Not even worthy of A tier. Definitely B tier. Why on earth are you ranking her so high? It’s false and misleading.

  34. Ayumilove Post author

@nmcb: I have updated Kantra the Cyclone ranking from S to A Rank.

  35. Raayna

    S Tier? Lmao what?

  36. nmcb

I dont think that she deserve S rank to be honest…

  37. True

@Ryknow: This setup is more of dmg oriented setup (i run similar style) She isnt really full builded for me yet but even with crit % gloves she has 4,5k def and in additional she gains dmg reduction with each debuff on enemy when they hit her so she doesn’t really need def % gloves.

@Becky: i would say she is A tier. Like she has very good kit for all dungeons if build correctly She isn’t really speed farmer in dungeons but she adds defence and wave control. Like you really need her to see her full potential. As in additional detail she is perfect unit in Factions.

  38. Evan

    Hey AyumiLove 🙂

I love your site and the excellent work you’re doing!
I am about to get Kanta, so I will be more sure after I test her out.

I believe that she would be AWESOME as a CC champion with a STUN set!
    Stun would be awesome because:
    1. Stun would have a very large chance to proc with 2 hit A1 and 3 hit for all enemies A2!
    2. Stun is one more debuff that would heal every turn when it expires.
    3. It will help with placing more easily the provoke debuff.

    I am thinking Spider’s Den.

STUN set is the first set I am going to try her with.

  39. Ryknow

how come crit gloves? when she designed to be a debuffer that doesnt require crit? surely def% would be better on gloves?

  40. becky

S-Tier? Nah. Try B tier. She’s okay, but she isn’t the best. The only dungeons I would even consider using her would be Spiders (to help you get through it, but runs with her would take VERY long) and Dragons.

I wouldn’t even run her in Savage gear—she just isn’t meant to deal damage. The multiplier on her A2 is 1*def (3 hits) -> 3*def multiplier, which is the same multiplier as Wurlim Frostking, Scyl of Drakes, and Valkyrie’s AOEs, but you don’t build Savage on them.

Overall, she’s a great tank and she’s good paired with AOE poisoners on the team like Richtoff, and Stag Knight / Madame Serris so you can pull the provokes off. She can hit decently hard but it’s nothing I would gear for damage.

  41. True

@Ayumilove: I found warmaster bit better for now but might change it if i ever get her a3 booked then will test giant slayer.

  42. Ayumilove Post author

@True: Kantra’s multi-hit attack benefits much more from Giant Slayer especially against bosses.

  43. Ayumilove Post author

    @LordMiekesch: I have updated Kantra’s Spider rating from 4 to 5.

  44. Ayumilove Post author

@JohanQIrenicus: I have updated Kantra’s rating for Clan Boss from 5 to 3 due to the randomness in her debuffs, and some non-useful debuff that takes away useful spots for Poison debuff.

  45. True

May i ask why giant slayer. Like yes his aoe hits 3 times but his a1 is only 2 hitter so doesn’t it make more sense to go warmaster to get higher chance to proc mastery dmg

  46. LordMiekesch

In Spiders Dent she should be a 5*. She can tank the Spiderlings without shield.

  47. JohanQIrenicus

Hey Ayumi, thanks for yout great work!!

After viewing reviews and starting to use my own Kandra, the problem in clan boss is the “RNG” debuffs, so you get in clan boss much of useless debuffs (like Dec. Acc or Block Debuff, this last just usable on colored boss but not worth). Surely not a 5, maybe a 3.

On the other side, Spider’s Den she’s S-tier for sure, as best tank self healing I never had (in pair of my maxed resistence Rhazin with 60k power).

Thanks an keep this great web!!

  48. Ayumilove Post author

@Dinodzo: Pair up with another debuffer champion with Kantra the Cyclone in Arena Offense, so she can place up Provoke debuff. Since she can place a lot of useful debuff, she will be quite helpful in Clan Boss too. This is my pre-liminary review on the champion based on the videos by other Youtube content creators. I’ll re-evaluate her again in detail once I get the champion to test.

  49. Dinodzo

Hey ! glad to see such an early clear view for this new fusion but i wonder if you are sure about the 5 Stars for the Arena Offense & Boss Clan – Could you explain or be more specific, i’m very curious about your decision process.
From the videos i’ve seen so far there is currently a debate – I was expecting a rate of 4 stars on those.

Since it would a lot of time & effort to fuse this one i really want to be sure.
I hope that i doesn’t sound cooky, i really appreciate your work and i wish you the best !
