Baerdal Fellhammer Storyline
Once upon a time, Baerdal Fellhammer was a brave and boisterous warrior, ever looking for a good scrap to test himself in. Short he may have been, but only a fool underestimates a Dwarf’s strength. And, to Baerdal’s glee, there had been plenty of fools in Teleria’s taverns. So he fought, he drank, gambled away whatever he had earned, and enjoyed his carefree life. All of that would not last. One of Baerdal’s forays into the forgotten crypts ended in catastrophe. The ancient floors collapsed beneath his feet, and the Dwarven warrior had been thrust into catacombs far more ancient than even the tomb he had been exploring. There Baerdal had been forced to fight for his life for days, beset on all sides by skeletal ghouls and malevolent spectres, until he finally found his way out. The desperate battle with no rest or respite had changed Fellhammer, and where a loud and cheerful fighter entered the tomb in search of glory, a paranoid and cautious survivor burst out from its catacombs and into the grim Durham Forest. But all was not in vain. Through sheer grit and the strength of his axe arm, Baerdal slew many unclean creatures, and fought his way to a glade where an eerie light seemed to keep the Undead at bay. Tired and wounded, Baerdal collapsed by a pond of water as black as pure obsidian. He dreamt of spirits that coalesced and danced around him, keeping away the evil that would see him dead. When he woke up, Baerdal Fellhammer realized that the Fey – guardian spirits of Durham – had imparted a small portion of their power upon him. Be it for his bravery or simply because they were compelled to, but their protection has remained with him until now. *This Champion’s story had been adapted from the contest submission by Murd*

Nub Raids: Head of Mischief is EASY with Baerdal Fellhammer!
Him and Lordly Legionnaire you get for free are really the Dynamic Duo for Fire Knight- if you place the heal reduction, LL’s A1 does 4 hits(!), add Baerdal’s 2 and shield’s all but gonezo- there’s also turn meter depletion, reflect damage and so on; they just synergize so well for this.
I recently put him in a Destroy set with as much damage-dealing as I could, and he’s really good against the Scarab King now. What’s great about Baerdal in this role (besides the obvious Shield and Counterattack) is that his 100% Heal Reduction allows you to use other great AoE Shield champions like Duchess and Miscreated Monster who also have Continuous Heal buffs that the Scarab King has a chance to steal.
I got him early and was unimpressed. However, with the buff to the nether spider in doom tower, he is my answer to land 100% heal reduction as my frozen banshee lands the poison on the boss and my scyl and two reliquary tenders healing, cleansing and reviving. I build him tanky with high accuracy and moderate speed.
@Ctrl: I wish I could “like” comments on this site. That is a very interesting idea, now that I don’t NEED this guy to do anything for me, but he’s fully built. Looking for some way to use him.
Just finally 3-starred Dwarf 21 in Faction Wars, and one of the key things ended up being NOT using Baerdal Fellhammer. I had Maulie, Mountain King, Rearguard Sergeant, Grizzled Jarl, and Baerdal, and just couldn’t 3-star it. Finally subbed out Bulwark (in Retaliation gear, Clan Boss build) for Baerdal, and after about 8-10 tries I did manage to do it.
The problem with the final Dwarf boss is you need to avoid doing a lot of damage when the boss’s turn meter is low, because the turn meter increases as the boss takes damage. You want to use buffs and stuff when the boss’s turn meter is low, then hit the boss hard when they’re about to take a turn ANYWAY. Baerdal does a little too much damage on every skill, and doesn’t have non-damaging skills to help you manage this. Most of the other good dwarves do.
Crit dmg, flawless execution and taunting set. He is a crowd control beast in a taunting set. Not the greatest dmg dealer but he will hit often enough in a taunting set. If you can pair him with someone who will place a shield on him, he will do well.
ATK%, CD, CR, SPD, DEF, HP
I used him to beat the last few stages of FK; he can hit really hard with the right build. I’ve since re-geared him and changed his masteries a few times for different areas of the game, and I can see how meh he can be if outfitted the wrong way. I’ve gotta figure out what I was doing right the first time, now that I don’t need him for anything but the dwarf crypt … my current build, in good Relentless gear with 105% crit rate but only 110% or so crit dmg is seriously underwhelming compared to whatever I had going on with him before. I think I probably had ATK% boots instead of SPD, for one. With his constant counterattacks, you don’t need him to be fast as much as you do need him to hit hard. Kill Streak and Whirlwind of Death are definitely essential masteries for this guy if you can getting him critting hard enough.
I have him at 6* fully ascended. Built mainly to see if he can add the extra 4 hits in FK, so far not working but it could be gear related or the comp im using. He is great for FW as there aren’t many good dwarfs but once i get past FK 20 with him i will update.
I have him on an alt account, he’s a very strong early game carry for campaign. Unfortunately he tails off as you progress. He can reliably farm 12-3 Brutal, but he’s a bit slow because you’re relying on single-target attacks and counterattacks.
He would have been a much stronger champion if he were defense-oriented with the way his constant counterattack works.
