MapleStory Dual Blade Skill Build Guide

A Dual Blade abbreviation (DB) is a Maplestory job that is in the Thief Explorer/Adventurer class. Its main stat is LUK. This is a limited class meaning that it will only be available for creation once in a while or during events. Congratulations on reaching 4th Job Advancement! Dual Blade 4th Job Primary attacking skill will be mostly Blade Fury for training and Phantom Blow for boss raiding. Add 1 SP (Skill Point) into Blade Fury, Sharpness and Katara Mastery for their initial stat boost benefits. Get at least Level 10 Thorns as this will help in providing some anti-knockback while being crowded in mobs of monsters. Now, max Blade Fury to unlock more monster targets. Proceed with maxing Toxic Venom to provide additional overtime damage, great against high health monsters. Next, increase your critical rate and damage with Sharpness, followed by improving minimum damage with Katara Expert. I would recommend maxing Thorns after Katara Expert to provide full-proof anti-knockback, very useful when you do not want to lose your position at platform while bossing/training. You can max either Maple Warrior or Final Cut whichever suits you to improve your overall damage. If you plan to boss early, you can max Phantom Blow first before Mirrored Target. Sudden Raid and Hero’s Will is maxed last as they are not used often due to their cooldown limitation.

Jin and Lady Syl were both excellent students, not only in skill, but in heart as well. The Dark Lord was happy to have them as students, and cherished them dearly. As they trained and worked together, a romance formed between them, and it grew as they continued to work together. One fateful day, an urgent notice came from Tristan, a good friend of the Dark Lord. The extremely dangerous and evil Balrog has been resurrected, and has started to destroy Victoria Island. Knowing that time is of the essence, he headed off to Victoria Island immediately after receiving the notice, strictly forbidding his loved students from following him. Upon reaching Sleepywood in Victoria Island, he could not find his friend Tristan. Not one to wasting time, he left to track down Balrog immediately. Eventually he found and confronted Balrog alone.

The fight was one to be seen, as two equally powerful opponents confronted each other in mortal combat. Balrog was a dangerous opponent, his physical prowess rivaled by few, and has the forces of evil to back him up. As the fight continued, the Dark Lord started to grow weary, and with just a split-second lapse in concentration, the Balrog’s evil slipped pass his defences and wrecked his soul, destroying it and transforming his body into a monster.

The Dark Lord, now an empty shell of what he once was, has been transformed into a monster which he has dedicated his life to destroying! Unknown to the Dark Lord however, Jin had disobeyed his orders and was secretly following him, and had seen everything. He confronted the Dark Lord, the one figure in his life which is almost like a father to him, trying to reason to the now mindless monster to remember what it once was. Alas, all his attempts were in vain, and knowing what he had to do, he reluctantly attacked the monster that still had the face of his beloved mentor, and defeated it.

Her Heart Grows Cold… Carrying the body back with him with tears streaming down his eyes, he buried his Master’s corpse in honor and took up the role of Dark Lord. But Balrog’s destruction did not just stop at the Dark Lord. Upon knowing about her father’s death, Lady Syl was devastated. Her mind and soul was shattered, she started to blame Jin for not protecting her father. In time, her anguished mind ran wild, and she started to believe that Jin engineered her father’s death to take up the position of Dark Lord. Jin tried to convince her otherwise, knowing and trying to explain that he would have sacrificed everything he had to protect the Dark Lord, but it was in vain. Lady Syl’s heart was already cold, and her mind made up. Jin has caused her father’s death and she would take revenge on him. Before leaving, Jin tried to reason with her once more, begging her to remember the love they once shared, and her father’s honor and greatness. However, it fell on death ears, her only reply was that Jin would suffer a fate equal to that of her father in pain and anguish when the time comes……

The Plan Has Been Set In Motion! Jin the Dark Lord knows that the time of confrontation would be soon, but he does not yet know exactly when or from where. In the mean time, a man going by the name of Rayden in the back alley of Kerning City is approaching travellers, making an interesting offer. And at the Secret Garden, Lady Syl gathers her forces of elite Dual Bladers as she tends to the garden, her heart still filled with bitterness and rage against the Dark Lord. But, in the darkness of her heart, a tiny ember of the blazing love she once had for the Jin remains. Would it be extinguished completely, or would it grow once again, before it is too late?

@Jason: You’re very welcome! I’m happy to help players who have trouble in-game. I do my best to respond every message and not missing them in my busy schedule. This message warms my heat and motivates me to continue working on it although I have not been playing MapleStory to keep myself updated to the content changes as I have moved on to other interests.

  3. Jason

This is message for appreciation. Really thanks ayumilove for the time and effort for doing all these research and posts. Am surprised been all these year, author still replied most of the message and comment and updating as well. Thanks you the founder of this ayumilove and the team (perhaps) and appreciated from deep down our heart.

@NewDB: Dual Blade should not need any skill books for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Job Skills based from my experiencing leveling a Dual Blade. However, you will need to complete some Dual Blade side quests to gain some SP (Skill Points) to max out some of the skills.

  5. NewDB

Hey does DB still need mastery books before 4th job?

  6. Ayumilove Post author

@Baunsie: Thanks for the notice! I have added Dual Blade 5th Job Skill “Blade Tornado” into the guide above 🙂

  7. Ayumilove Post author

@SFSF: You should be able to max all skills for Dual Blade. Below are the expected max skill points for all Dual Blade skills.
    Dual Blade 1 Job: 10, 5, 10, 10
    Dual Blade 1+ Job: 10, 10, 15
    Dual Blade 2nd Job: 10, 20, 20, 10, 5
    Dual Blade 2+ Job: 20, 10, 5, 20
    Dual Blade 3rd Job: 20, 20, 20, 20, 5, 5, 10, 20
    Dual Blade 4th Job: 30, 30, 30, 30, 30, 5, 30, 10, 10, 30, 20

Please send a support enquiry ticket to Nexon to address the issue you are facing. Thanks 🙂

Hi, I’ve just created a Dual Blade and now I’m at level 38. My question is why am I lacking 3 skill points which unable me to max every skills in the Dual Blade 1st Job Skill tree?

    My skill build now:-
    Flash Jump (MAX-5)
    Bandit Slash (MAX-10)
    Side Step (MAX-10)
    Dark Sight (7)

Did i missed anything? I have no problem maxing all the skills in DUAL BLADE 1ST JOB+ SKILLS tree though.

  11. polq

why thorns is bot maxed to lvl 20 in your guide? it gives decent attack power

  12. Firepry

@Edgar Gonzalez: Hi, please check out this Reddit Link for MapleStory Returning Players – It has the list of features that has been implemented into MapleStory to improve players gaming experiences. Hope this helps 🙂

Im back from a 6 Years break, everything is changed, there is some can explainme a little bit what happened?

Im a 151 DB with 75k range clean and im lost, there is a lot of new buttons, menu, quest farm,…. etc.

  16. FantomHive

I don’t get any sp for Blade Lord at level 60 so I’m missing out on 3 sp. Is this a bug?

  17. Ayumilove Post author

@Vinicius: Thanks for the correction! I’ll be updating the guide with the new information. 🙂

    @all: Skill Update
    1. Phantom Blow (Damage: 153~240% → 188~275%)
    2. Final Cut (Final Damage: 31~60% → 11~40%)
    3. Mirrored Target (Shadow Meld activated when dummy is destroyed → Shadow Meld activated when dummy is attacked)
    4. Sudden Raid (Added New Effect: Final Cut’s Remaining Cooldown: -20% for Level 1 and Max Level 30)
    5. Blade Fury (Damage: 142~200% → 192~250%)
    6. Sharpness (Critical Damage: 7~25% → 4~13%)
    7. Katara Expert (Accuracy: 1~15% → REMOVED, Avoidability: 1~15% → REMOVED, Added New Effect: Final Damage: 5~20%)
    8. Chains of Hell (Damage: 67~105% → 112~150%, Number of Attacks: 10 → 7)
    9. Katara Mastery (Accuracy: 12~120 → REMOVED)
    10. Fatal Blow (Damage: 76~94% → 90~108%, Number of Attacks: 8 → 7)
    11. Channel Karma (Duration: 66~200 sec → REMOVED, MP Cost: 15~22 → REMOVED)

  18. Vinicius

Ayumi-san, they changed somethings on the Dual Blade. I only know what they changed on the 4th job tough, since it was whne I noticed thhem :P. But anyways, the differences I noticed where:

    1. Final Cut’s lvl 30 damage bonus is 40%, instead of 60%;
    2. Mirrored Target activates Shadow Meld whenever it’s hit( or whenever it evades, I’m not really sure) rather then when being destroyed;
    3. Sudden Raid has a new effect, it cuts down the remaining cooldown of Final Cut by a set amount of 20%.

With those changes in mind don’t you think it would be beneficial to maybe level up final cut earlier on with one point in Sudden Raid? I mean, When I had max Final Cut and lvl 1 Sudden Raid, I spent about 10 seconds without Final Cut’s bonus, with both maxed I spend about 3~4 seconds without the buff, and that 40% damage boost is amazing.

  19. Eikyo

What is better for me at reboot since i cant buy noods and im not funded so it is very hard fot mr to get the karmic fury which is better karmic fury or blade tempest???

  20. bellocandb

hey ayumilove, i was wondering if you could add hyper STATS to the guide? not sure where to invest my hyper stats, most of it i put towards bonus dmg or LUK. please include hyper stats in this guide, it would truly help a lot of people!! also, as a db what is a good clean range at around lvl 150?

  21. Ubermana

Hey ayumilove my question is who is better for bossing at 8 b money thunder breaker or duel and why thank you

  22. Ayumilove Post author

@Veltin: Thanks for your notice! I have updated Dual Blade 5th Job Skill “Karma Fury” to “Karmic Fury”.

  23. Veltin

    Karma Fury > Karmic Fury

@Driad: Aside from the standard trio (boss, ignore, dmg), crit dmg and status resist are some viable options. Crit rate is not a priority since we have shadow meld and mirrored target, but is good to have when shadow meld doesnt proc.

  24. Driad

What Hyper Stats are good for DB? Not Hyper Skills, Hyper Stats. Yknow, Crit Rate and stuff.

  25. Ayumilove Post author

@Tobi: Sorry, what are “Skill Tomes”?

  26. Ayumilove Post author

@Tommy bahama: Thanks for your feedback! I have updated Dual Blade 4th Job Skill “Thorns” skill details.

  27. Tommy bahama

    Thorns is now passive.

  28. Tobi

Hey Ayumi which Dual blade skill will you use Skill tomes on And max after the use of skill tome. or do you skill time all your skills

  29. Ayumilove Post author

@xBernard: You can try to perform scrolling equipment by using (Spell Traces). Then, further upgrade the equipment using the Star Force System (enhance using meso). Once satisfied, can purchase cubes or craft cubes to add potential to equipment to further enhance the damage/stats. If getting a set of equipment, it will provide bonus stat (equipment of the same kind). If you are not keen in scrolling part, you can buy it from freemarket. Second part is creating many characters (around 12) and perform link skill to the main character.

  30. xBernard

Im level 145 as a db . My dmg cant go higher than 100k . It stucks at 50-70 k per hit . Im also a unfunded player . Can I know how to increase the damage ?

  31. Keith Chen (DexArrox MapleStorySEA)

Not sure about this, but last time when I played my friend’s db account in MSEA, the Thorns skill is different. Anyone can confirm with me?

  32. Ayumilove Post author

@iStatic: Thanks for sharing Dual Blade pros! I have added it into the guide above.

  33. iStatic

-Has the passive skill thorns which grants dual blades 90% stance that other classes of thieves do not have
-Have both final cut and asura which make dual blades temporary immune to 1hko skill such as arkarium

  34. Ayumilove Post author

@UncleZork: Have you tried checking out the NPC that sells the skill books at the potion store in the Dual Blade’s hideout, Leafre and Henesys General Store? It’s been awhile I played Dual Blade and it has changed quite a bit.

  35. UncleZork

Ayumi , may I know where you can get the higher tiered skill books for DB 4th job?

  36. Ayumilove Post author

@Arthur: Thanks for sharing your pros and cons for Dual Blade! I have added them into the guide above. This would help others to decide whether this job suits them best 🙂

  37. Arthur

Some of the cons i find while using this hero for your consideration.

While other class secondary weapon is fixed at 30, 60, 100, you have a wide range of secondary weapon

Fairly low HP (Because he’s a thief)
    Consume MP pots fast
Need to buy skill books even before 4th job
No free emblem from NPC when you job advance
    No free chair
No binding skill when you need for boss fight
Lesser EQ/USE/ETC slots compare to others
Your min/max damage range is dependent of both dagger and katara

  38. Simon

@CrossEdge, I challenge the saying “once you start a class then you need continue play it until rest of your life”. I have Arch Mage I/L + Shadower + other class and I don’t think that’s an issue of playing other chars and swapping around whenever you play. Unless you are the type that say “Hey, once I play, I have to be on top of everyone”.

I started with Arch Mage and I have Shadower to help me to hunt my eq for Arch Mage and has other char just for the sake either for Link Skill / just want to see the skill set / like to play around with eq hunt for other class 🙂

  39. CrossEdge

Hi ayumi, I was thinking about which one of the 4 classes should I start with? They are, Dual Blade, Kaiser, Dawn Warrior and Thunder Breaker. Actually I got played this game few years ago. My top favorite class are DB and Kaiser, DW and TB is in my second place. But since Cygnus Knights do not need to buy any mastery book now and I think I am a unfunded player due to I will not top up. So which class should I get? I heard others people said that once you start a class then you need continue play it until rest of your life XD so it makes me feel so struggle. Thanks 🙂

  40. Elderich

@vayne you need to buy dual blade skill books from the merchant in the secret garden

  41. Vayne

I have a dualblade and there’s a big problem. At 2nd job, lvl30-45, there’s only around 45sp, I’m short of 20sp to Max out the skills. So how do you get the remaining sp? I’m stuck.

  42. Trotro

Dual blades have many active skills, can you recommend a keyboard layout?

  43. Ayumilove Post author

@JW: I think MapleStory provide sufficient Hyper Skill Points to max that skill, so it does not really matter whether to level it up or not. Just level it up 🙂

  44. JW

Hi ayumi, is it worth to level up hidden blade core?

  45. Tung

Why wasnt mastery book 20 30 used before job 4th?

  46. Hua

Hii..ayumi….if i am low funded player….between hayato and zero and db….which u recommend most ? I fisrt time maple….can say totally no fund ><

  47. Lewis

Can u make a V matrix system build of dual blade?

  48. Ayumilove Post author

@KM: All LUK (Luck) Stats for Dual Blade.

  49. Ayumilove Post author

@Glant: Noted. I have updated Dual Blade 3rd Job Skill Build Guide.

  50. Glant

At 3rd job I like to put a point into shadow meld as it gives you 10% avoid on top of the 15% of SS and it gives you a chance for all crits

  51. KM

Hi Ayumi, What about AP build for Dual Blade ? Thanks

  52. ilbi215

Great guide! i check it almost every day to find useful tips while i lvl my db, currently just passed lvl 120

  53. Tizia

Hi Ayumi! I can’t decide between DB and Shadower. Which one should I play with low funds?

  54. Ayumilove Post author

@GrayLizard: Enhancement Cores increase the final damage of your skills (and can also increase # of monsters hit at Level 20 & increase defense ignore at Level 40). They are permanent as long as you have them installed in your V Matrix.

  55. GrayLizard

Under fifth job cores does the final cut one increase how much damage % extra the skill does or how much damage % extra it gives you as a range increase

  56. Ayumilove Post author

@StaruPlus: Night Lord for both middle and full fund player. However, I strongly advise you to play the job that is most fun to you instead of focusing on damage.

  57. StaruPlus

Hi Ayumi , i need your suggest
I can’t decide between NL and DB what is better for mobbing and bossing and survi
    am a middle fund player

  58. PLEASE

    @Ayumilove: omg…. ok thanks anyway ayumi 😀

  59. Ayumilove Post author

@PLEASE: I would recommend Hayato over Dual Blade.

  60. PLEASE

@ayumilove Thanks ayumi , if between hayato and db am i choosing db is much better ? bcos i not really like eunwol playing style.. and mobbing quiet boring.. thanks

  61. Ayumilove Post author

@PLEASE: I would recommend you to grab Eunwol aka Shade. It costs less meso to train/level-up and it deals quite a good deal of damage. Hayato drinks MP like water, cost quite a fortune to maintain unless the monster is dropping way more meso that can handle the skill MP maintenance. Dual Blade is average in terms of damage. Need some funding to reach its full potential.

  62. PLEASE

Hi Ayumi , db is a low fund job ??
i need ur suggestion between , Hayato , DB and Eunwol . and im a low funded player..i

  63. DaysBreak

Then how to add the point for hyperstat? still follow the guide and add all to lv10? like for db add luk till lv 10 then only add strength? as in you hyper skill build guide

  64. Ayumilove Post author

@DaysBreak: Hyper Skill Stat has been replaced with Hyper Stat. The Hyper Stat is added through the AP Window (AP = Ability Points). Open up that window, and you can find a button labelled as “Hyper Stat” or something similar. Click on it, and it will pop up another sub-window panel. From there, you can add your HAP (Hyper Ability Points).

  65. DaysBreak

Hi ayumi, wanna ask about the hyper skill.
Why my db reached level 142 but still don’t have the window to add hyperstat?
Only have passive and active tab but without the hyperstat window. I’m from MSEA

  66. ScarX

Does Life Drain exactly work?!? Im in Root and drink HPots like beers 😩

  67. Kappa

Hey the hyper stats are different now. Would you mind making a guide for the new hyper stats?

  68. Nimue

Do you need normal Mastery Books for 4th job? Or still need to use those Dual Blade ones?

  69. herman

    Thanks for the guide ^^

  70. manuel hwang

Apparently they removed the stat ups of the hyper

  71. Canofbeans

They changed Channel Karma and Thorns to passive skills.

  72. Alvin

Go to the secret garden(dual blade place/ lvl 1-10 place).
Go to the basement(down arrow portal/elevator)
Talk to the puppy eyed merchant.
*BTW* the books cost *100,000* mesos

  73. Neo

Umm.. Any tips on getting the slash storm mastery book?

  74. Ayumilove Post author

@Bryan Koh: Thanks for stopping by and leaving your feedback!

  75. Bryan Koh

    Great stuff! 🙂

  76. Ayumilove Post author

@Blub: Sorry for the late reply! I have updated the Channel Karma’s max level duration from 180 seconds to 200 seconds.

  77. Blub

hey ayumi! For Channel Karma level 20, the duration should be 200, not 180

  78. Blub

Hey Ayumilove! Been using your guides for a while now and just wanted to say i love them! Also, for Channel Karma in the 2nd job skill set, the duration for level 20 should be 200 seconds, not 180.

  79. Ayumilove Post author

@Potato: Thanks for your reply! I have updated Asura’s Anger’s damage from 500% to 380%.

  80. Potato

Asura’s Anger’s damage is 380 not 500 in the reboot patch.

  81. Ayumilove Post author

@Ches: Thanks for the notice! I have updated Asura’s Anger from 3 to 4 number of attacks.

  82. Ches

actually, asura have 4 number of attacks :3

  83. gamegamer

does Life Drain have 100%to activate?

  84. Ayumilove Post author

@doge: Thanks for the update! I have corrected Asura’s cooldown from 90 to 60 seconds.

  85. doge

Asura’s cooldown prior to Black Heaven update has been reduced from 90 to 60 seconds too! 🙂

  86. Nimue

I made a Dual Blade and got it to lvl 45 so far :’).
But I maxed everything in 2nd Job but still got 15 Points left? Is that a good thing or? O_O.

  87. Ayumilove Post author

@FireKingzz: Thanks for spotting the mistake! I have updated “Katara Mastery” to “Katara Expert” under the Dual Blades 4th Job Skill Build 🙂

  88. FireKingzz

Also under the heading, “Dual Blade’s 4th Job Skill Build”, it says Katara Mastery put one point into it.

  89. FireKingzz

Dual Blade is really hard to train also from level 60-100 if not on an exp party supported map.

  90. Quack

I wanna make a Dual Blade but isn’t it hard to fund still? >.<

  91. Jessekog

Yes, I’m on the GMS Server. Is there a Hyper Stat guide for Dual Blades. I feel like Hyper Damage should be at lvl 10 and not sure what else to increase.

  92. Ayumilove Post author

@Jessekog: Are you on GMS (Global MapleStory) server? Because the latest patch has already replaced the old Hyper Stat system.

  93. Jessekog

Are these the best Hyper Stats for Dual Bladers? I feel like it should be something else.
    9. Hyper Luck (MAX)
    10. Hyper Dexterity (MAX)
    11. Hyper Health (MAX)
    12. Hyper Mana (MAX)
    13. Hyper Accuracy (MAX)
    14. Hyper Critical Rate (MAX)

  94. hehehe

Asuras anger wont have affect on damage reflect. However, that means it also wont do any damage to a mob during damage reflect buff. It said so in the description and I have tried it myself. Peace out.

  95. Ayumilove Post author

@helpp: I’m not sure whether Asura’s Anger damage can be reflected by bosses as I have not tried it out. If someone here has experience with it, do let us know!

  96. helpp

hi in maplesea, using asuras anger on damage reflect will the character take damage?

  97. Yo

For the 4th job advancement, there is a slight typo. Katara Mastery should be Expert.

  98. Anonymous

You can’t use Taeha’s mastery books after 3rd job, you have to use the normal mastery books.

  99. Red

Hi Ayumi! I was wondering if the mastery books brought from Taeha can be used on 4th Job. Because I don’t know why I can’t use it anymore. Lady Syl said that I have reached the maximum of it…

  100. Lex

oh oh, i think i fked up 🙁 i lvled up to 61 when i finished the 3rd job advancement quest, so when i became a blade lord, i only got 3 SP. so i believe ill be 3 SP missing when i reach lvl 100 🙁

  101. Haren

I can’t max all skills for 2nd job, please help.

  102. Maki

Do Mirror Target have to be on the boss for it to get attracted to it

  103. Destroyer

    HI Ayumi
Dual blade is have Enemy DEF Ignored: 30% from skill Phantom Blow only?
Dodge Chance: 30% from Shadow Meld Only?

  104. Ayumilove Post author

@DualBladeFan: Skill book can now be purchased from NPC in Dual Blade Headquarter (HQ) using meso.

  105. DualBladeFan

May i ask MapleSea Dualblade , does it need to use real life money to buy skill book ? and where to buy the skill book in game

  106. DualBladeFan

May i ask MapleSea Dualblade , does it need to use real life money to buy skill book ? and where to buy the skill book in game?

  107. random

Whats a godly range for db now @ lv 143

  108. RandomPerson

dual blade cant really be played with low funds because at every single job level he will have 1 skill or more that needs the mastery book and its 1mil each which is quite hard for unfunded or low funded players.

  109. CloudSky

For the third job advancement you cant get the job advancement until you complete a quest that is available at level 65. That means that you should change the heading of the third job title to “DUAL BLADE 3RD JOB SKILLS – BLADE LORD (LEVEL 65)”

  110. Loha

i have a question. can you include the mastery book usage of 4th job? 🙂

  111. Kai

hey ayumi, just asking but for my night walker 4th job skills,he doesnt have the (Cygnus knights) you know why or was it patched out from the recent revamp????

  112. Ayumilove Post author

@doge: Thanks for your feedback! I have updated Dual Blade 4th Job Skills (Phantom Blow 240% damage) and (Blade Fury 200% damage).

  113. Ayumilove Post author

@Meow: I have updated Dual Blade 3rd Job SKill “Chains of Hell” to include the cooldown. The cooldown will be still there but at a reduced rate with each level reducing 1 second cooldown.

  114. doge

Prior to Black Heaven update, Phantom Blow and Blade Fury’s % increment has been raised, to 240% and 200% respectively, so that’s required to be updated :]

  115. Meow

For the skill chains of hell in third job, it has like a cooldown now. I haven’t maxed it yet but will the cooldown be gone since it is considered a bossing skill?

  116. Pure Water 100%

Did you buy the training book to raise your Slash Storm level?

  117. aFlyingLlama

I had 45 SP for II, I could only max Booster, Training, and Slash storm. I left Karma at 10 and left Fatal at 0. Then for II+ I had 65 points. I maxed everything with 10 left over points.. what is this??

  118. X9sasuke9Xi

So I noticed that the hyper skills section for dual bladers and the dual blade segment for hyper skills are different. I was wondering about the dual blade segment for hyper skills. Does hyper strength increase a dual blade’s attack range? Thank you for your time.

  119. True Blade

    Oh, thanks

I didn’t know that every class maxed by 140 now
I did say I just came back, so I didn’t know of such a thing existed now
Also, thanks for telling me for the hyper skills

  120. PapaGrimly

@True Blade: Every class, bar a couple strange ones like Evan, max all their fourth job skills by level 140.

The Hyper skill build list is just where you should put your points by the time you are at level 200, the order is just whatever unlocks first. You can put points in the three trees at the same time.

  121. True Blade

Oh, forgot to say, from GMS.

  122. True Blade

I just came back to Maplestory, and found my Dual Blade, level 157, could max all skills, is this normal?
Also, I have 4 hyper skill points to use, two in the general passive tree, and one in the active and one in the skill passive tree. The Dual Blade Hyper Skill Build you have there says to put five points in the skill passive tree first before putting a skill point in the active skill tree. Is that the order you suggest to put points in or just the recommended list from the best to worst type thing?

    Thank you

  123. SoloGMSPlayer

Missing explanation for 2nd Job advancement…

  124. Tokyo

@tofu You need 4 db skill books that cost 100k each, 8 lv20 books and 7 lv 30 books.

  125. tofu

Hi all. I’ll like to know whether do I still need to spend @cash to buy all the skill book for DB?

  126. Ayumilove Post author

@Awefinale: The mastery books can be purchased from the NPC in Dual Blade HQ for GMS too.

  127. Ayumilove Post author

@James: I believe you are playing MSEA (MapleStory South East Asia) or a region that has not launch Shinning Patch updates yet which contains Dual Blade Skill Revamp (Thorns Max Level 30 → Max Level 20). Kindly refer to V1 Dual Blade Guide at . This version 2 is for GMS and MapleStory region that has the new skill updates Shinning Patch and above!

  128. james

thorns still max lvl 30 lol

  129. Flak3

Hey @Ayumilove, haven’t they fixed the SP bug yet? Because I’m at lvl 45 right now, and there is no way to max my Slash Storm skill… Then, at the third job I won’t be able to use the Bloody Storm skill 🙁
    How to deal with that?

  130. 2cool4uBruh

GMS also haves them for a while now.

  131. Awefinale

Mastery books exclusively for Dual Blades can be purchase in the potion shop from the Dual Blade HQ. It costs 1000000 mesos for one book.
This is for SEA servers, for the others i’m not sure about them.

  132. Tengteng

Is cash shop The only way to get some of the DB skill books is MSEA?

  133. BlazyyPanda

I’m playing Dual Blade in MSEA and I also didnt get any SP at lvl 60 :\

  134. PapaGrimly

Having seen my brother level a Dual Blade recently, I can confirm that you do not receive any bonus SP for the level 60 job advancement in GMS either.

  135. ralf

i’ve change job lvl60 but didnt get any SP???
    on MSEA.FORNAX..
its my 1st time playing DB..

  136. Vesteen

i have 4 extra sp in my blade acolyte tab that cannot be used in msea. is this a bug ?

  137. Ding

where can i take dual blade mirror image mastery book?

  138. RisingBlade

    From 4th job description
Dual Blade 4th Job Skill Build: Everything maxed.
    1. Blade Fury, Sharpness, ”Katara Mastery (1)”

Q: Katara mastery @ forth job refer to Katara Expert (Passive)??

  139. Ayumilove Post author

@Suikoden: Perhaps MapleSEA has not fixed the issue with the SP (Skill Points) Distribution when Blade Master advances its job. This same issue has been clouding my Zen too. My Zen is not able to add any 4th Job SP even though its above Level 100 and the SP still goes into 3rd Job.

  140. Suikoden

Hi @Ayumilove, how am I able to max out Slash Storm and Fatal Blow. My Dual Blade at SEA is level 54, however whenever I level the SP goes to Blade Specialist which I already maxed every skills, and I do not have any SP under Blade Acolyte and also unable to use the SP from Blade Specialist to do so. Any idea?

  141. Jack

@NecroStar120, it wouldn’t be called max if you need masterybooks.

  142. Ayumilove Post author

@NecroStar120: Max refers to as maxing it out completely with mastery books. However, if you do not have sufficient mesos to purchase the mastery books, you can distribute your points to other skills first or you can save them up if you are close to purchase one.

  143. NecroStar120

Hey @Ayumilove when it says to max a skill out does it mean to max it out completely with mastery books included or without the mastery books? Thanks!

  144. Roger

HOW TO DO HIEIZAN TEMPLE AT LEVEL 140!? princess nou just instant kill me. wtf?

  145. iBladerSky12

Thanks Ayumi. I’ll probably go for Maple Warrior first after all, since I’ll be training more at the Evolution System. I’ve got another question, does Final Cut helps in training at mobs? Or is only used for bosses?

  146. iBladerSky12

Thanks Ayumilove. I’ve got another question, does Final Cut help in mobbing? Or it’s actually only useful in boss fights?

  147. Ayumilove Post author

@iBladerSky12: Not really. Maple Warrior boost your overall damage for regular skills and skills that consumes MP, whereas Phantom Blow is specialized in hitting 1 target with massive damage. If you find it convenient to eliminate bosses quickly with Phantom Blow for fast EXP, then it can be use to compensate for slow training at mobs.

  148. iBladerSky12

If I max phantom blow before maple warrior, would it affect my training at mobs badly? Because I plan to go mu long dojo and zakum every day too.

  149. Ayumilove Post author

@Zeeko: It should be very smooth similarly to Mercedes combination attacks. Have you buffed yourself with Weapon Booster? Does equipping with a weapon with faster attack help reduce the delay/lag when chaining skills? Sometimes you do not need to wait for a skill to complete its animation. Once you trigger the first skill, just try to spam click the 2nd skill for it to activate smoothly. It works for me though.

  150. Zeeko

Heyyyy, I have a dual blade currently and after turning level 45, i realised that I can’t actually do the combos well? I mean there is at least a 2 second delay whenever i wanna use flying assaulter and tornado spin.. is there a bug or am i pressing the buttons wrongly? :/

  151. sarutsu

Hey Ayumi, to reach level 45 was unable to increase the Slash Storm skill. What do I do?

  152. Kuramasa

You need the normal mastery books 20 to increase skills to max of 20, and then mastery book 30’s to increase cap to 30

  153. Canofbeans

I mean is it 20 or 30 for Blade Fury and Phantom Blow?

  154. Canofbeans

I mean like Mastery Book 20 or 30 for blade fury and phantom blow

  155. Canofbeans

Ayumi, what are the mastery books for dual blade 4th job? Also, this is an awesome guide.

  156. Adam

I don’t know what books I need for 4th job skills.. Like taking Blade Fury past level 10. Are they each a different book for the 4th job and where do I get these ones. I bought the regular book from Kerning secret garden thinking it would be the same. 🙁 Only been playing a week so I’m still trying to figure so much out. Thanks in advance for the help.

  157. Leonardo

hey there! am playing DB now and I can’t seem to find the mastery books for him 🙁
Some ppl said to go to secret garden but there’s none there also I can’t activate the 20 skill book that I bought. Some help?

    Thanks in advance

  158. Ayumilove Post author

@BickBickDig: Previously, MapleStory does not keep track on the amount of SP you will gain based on your levels. Now, they have corrected it so that even if you level up above the Job Advancement Level (e.g. above level 30/60/100), you will get those extra SP earned from those levels.

  159. WikiJay

@BickBickDig: Ur good. I just went to lvl 40 in Mr. Lee’s airline maps without doing my 2nd job advancement. all of my sp was there after I did my advancement.

  160. BickBickDig

    Hey Ayumi,
I was wondering if in the current version of Dual Blades, whether the 3rd job advancement at Level 60 comes with SP like the previous job. Stupid me went to level 70 before advancing in the job, now I’m not sure if I missed out in any of the SP. Wondering whether I need to restart if I missed out on any extra SP.

  161. Alucard

    Hey! 😀
Been following your skill guide and now I’m around lvl 90 and I’ve yet to be able to max out slash storm and and I’m free for skillpoints in the jobb skill tree (bought the skill mastery books from cash shop), do you get skillpoints you can use where ever later inn game, or have I messed up badly?
    I’m playing on Eu Maplestory…
    Thanks in advance 🙂

  162. Souleaterfan

Amazing guide! Do you have any suggested for where to go or what to do to level up from 130+? Thanks!

  163. Ayumilove Post author

@DonQuixotex: For GMS + after RED patch, Dual Blades’ pre-4th job skills that require Mastery Books can be obtained through the Dual Blade Training Book, which can be purchased from NPC Taeha in the Secret Garden Basement.

  164. DonQuixotex

Hai Ayuumi. Uhm… I’m not sure where to get mastery book for slash storm and mirror image since we can’t buy it in the cash shop anymore. I’m not sure what to do.

  165. Ayumilove Post author

@Edward: They are a combination of both. What level is your Dual Blade and the skill you are using to perform 5k damage?

  166. Edward

    Hello, Ayumi.
Is it good for a Dual Blade to do good damage or be a fast attacker? This question has struggled me to stop playing my Dual Blade awhile as it does about 5k damage each slow hit.

  167. kuro

Hi Ayumi do u know how to get the skill book for slash storm 🙂 ?

  168. Raiden

May I ask what link skills should I link to my Dual Blade?

  169. James

hi can i ask if dual blade still need to purchase skills from cash shop to unlock them?

  170. Game

    dual blade or shadower?

  171. Ayumilove Post author

@chuaahbu: I think MapleSEA does not have the Dual Blade Revamp yet, therefore it does not have the new Blade Ascension skill.

  172. Ayumilove Post author

@J: Thanks for the note. I have updated Dual Blade Skill Build Guide (1st job and 2nd job skill build).

  173. J

from 1st job to 4th job everything get maxed.
Blade Ascension is given when u have 3rd job.

  174. chuaahbu

hey my dual blade is already 97 and i still got no “Blade Ascension” in my skill list. do i need to have it unlock by doing any special quest or go to any NPC? anyone any ideal?? btw im in maplesea Red currently..

  175. Eclipsan

My bad, just found out Tornado Spin doesn’t need a mastery book but I’m still wondering about the extra 9 points I still got into 1st job.

  176. Ayumilove Post author

Thanks J for your help, I have corrected the job advancement levels.

  177. J

    1st job: level 10
    1st job+: level 20
    2nd job: level 30
    2nd job+: level 45
    3rd job: level 60
    4th job: level 100

  178. Eclipsan

I recently just hit 1st+ job and the 1st job’s skillpoints didn’t transfer?
I still got 9 points left on 1st job and was wondering if I should use the 9 points on
Bandit Slash or not since it shows that the max is 10.
I was also wondering if I should use a mastery book on Tornado Spin since it doesn’t
    specify if I should.

  179. Ayumilove Post author

@TFTWst3a1thyy: Thanks for the note on the SP. Just to confirm, the SP is sufficient to max all skills in all tiers? 1st, 1st+, 2nd, 2nd+, 3rd job?

  180. Ayumilove Post author

@Nero: Are you playing MapleStory SEA? Because Blade Ascension is found in GMS v148 whereas MSEA is currently in V142 (no revamp on Dual Blade yet)

  181. jamochet

@TFTWst3a1thyy . Thank you! I noticed the 4th job skills seem to be a bit off, too.

  182. Nero

why i dint hv Blade Ascension this skill,i alr 3rd job but dint hv this skill why ~~???

  183. TFTWst3a1thyy .

@jamochet the only place the advances are off in this guide is getting the advance at 45 instead of 55. And you can’t save so in-between jobs anymore. But you don’t need to as it gives you enough to Max EVERYTHING

  184. jamochet

Was the SP that was supposed to be saved from Bandit Slash supposed to be used in the 3rd job (Blade Lord)?

  185. jamochet

Also, I love your guides! Keep up the great work!!!

  186. jamochet

I am playing GMS right now and a bit of info seems funky. I got Blade Specialist (the II+ class) at 45 not 55. Also, I don’t seem to have to save SP between the + jobs as they give you a chunk to play with (usually around 10sp or so).

  187. TFTWst3a1thyy .

Err sorry not acension for TB, meant the one with the shark coming up that knocks up. Don’t remember the exact skill name

  188. TFTWst3a1thyy .

@Robert, having both classes I can say that thunder breaker acension + thunder combo is faster just because of breakers having 0 delay when comboed. But on the other hand, dual blades get more attack speed from their weapons then thunder breakers do so I guess it’s really up to has fast you mash that keyboard lol

  189. Robert

Hi, im wondering which one is faster. Blade ascension with flying assaulter or Rising Wave with thunder.

    Dual Blade vs Thunder Breaker

  190. Ayumilove Post author

@Suri: Which MapleStory version are you currently playing? The skill information above (Blade Ascension) is extracted from GMS (Global MapleStory).

  191. Suri

hey ayumi, I couldn’t get blade ascension, and when i upgraded to 3rd job at lv60, there wasnt any skillpoints for my 3rd job skills until i lvled to 61.

  192. Juniar Teoh

hi ayumilove , i want to ask why i can’t get Blade Ascension?

i search lot of place , and still can’t get it.

  193. Allen

So in second job and second job + we get to max everything? a little bit confused with the saved sp here

  194. DualBlade

Can you max out every single skill of DualBlade? Or do you have to save up your sp and not max out some skills?

  195. MapleVetren

Dual Blades Max all skills therefore bandit slash can be maxed it does not share sp between 1st job plus

  196. Ayumilove Post author

@Winston: It shouldn’t be a bug. Have you checked MapleSEA RED Release Notes? It mentions that the Dual Blades’ 2nd~3rd job skills (aka pre-4th job skills) that require mastery books can be obtained through the Dual Blade Training Book. This book is sold by Taeha in Kerning City’s the Secret Garden Basement for 100,000 mesos.

  197. CG_Peepwood

Hey ayumi, just a quick qn that has really been bothering me. I want to play a thief class and invest time and money in it. But I’m not sure who to play. At first I was convinced with DB, but then with the revamp, NL and Shad looks good too. But reading reviews from other websites, they said that NL are still better than shad. Which leaves me with both NL and DB. And then to make things worst, I heard they are revamping NW, which once again lead me into a dilemma. HELP PLS!!!

  198. Winston

    Hi Ayumilove,

Can ask, why my dual blade 2nd job skill Slash Storm currently only till lvl 5 n said need mastery book to unlock lvl 6? i can’t max til lvl 20 like ur guide. Than my Flying Assaulter also same stuck at lvl 5 and said same thing need mastery book to unlock lvl 6. Is there a bug for the char in maplesea? or where do i get the mastery book? and also my Bandit Slash in 1st job is added 1sp but i still have 9 sp left after i max my 1st job other skills and 1st job+ skills. what shd i do with the remaining 9 sp? need your help for the skills and mastey books to unlock skill lvl….thank you…

  199. Zeynox

Ayumi, you don’t have to save up sp for Blade Recruit so you can max bandit slash

  200. Kevin

Ayumilove is GMS can you max out all the skills

  201. Ayumilove Post author

@Vic: Thanks for the note, I have corrected it 🙂

  202. Jo

i am playing dual blade on EMS. i dont have the skill blade ascention and Blade fury!! how do i get them?

  203. Vic

for hyper skills you put Hyper Strength instead of Hyper Luck

  204. Ossyria

Following this guide where it says save for future levels or jobs but Im blade recruit already and I cant use those extra points, theres 9 remaining and I dont know what to do with them

  205. theboss

what is my sp is all been reset…??

  206. Zeynox

Ayumi, some of the job advancement level requirement are wrong also i’m at lvl 60(blade lord) but i didn’t get any SP upon job advancement.

  207. Pikalahv

    …nevermind /)_<
    my fail.

  208. Pikalahv

Ayumi, I have question. This is my first time ever doing anything Hyper Skill-related, so my question is: Is the Hyper Skill build for DB the order you recommend putting points in? Or is it just more like “Oh, heres the skills, you decide”?

  209. Maxie3

@Kelvin, not only in GMS. In EMS, you can also have maxed all skills in 1st and +1st job. 🙂

  210. Kelvin

in GMS, you’ll be able to max everything since extra SPs will be given upon job advancement

  211. oOlemonOo

ey you dont need to leave anything blank.. they always make you max some stuff for db
so dont worry and dont make a new one you will have plenty of sp

  212. Ayumilove Post author

@Jesse: Latest Dual Blade information is here.

  213. Ayumilove Post author

@Mason: Probably you want to recreate again since you might not have sufficient SP (Skill Points) to max the remaining 1st Job Skills that can be used for later job advancements whereas Bandit Slash will be replaced easily with 2nd, 3rd and 4th job skills.

  214. Mason

do dual blades max everything because i accidentally maxed bandit slash in first job did i make a mistake?

  215. Jesse

is this updated to the newest version

  216. Tom

I recently started playing again and mastery books are now buyable from NPCs, but for mirror image on DB I can’t use those mastery books. Do I still have to get the original mastery book?

  217. Salem

u can find it in leafre merchant or go up and u will find a book seller merchant :3

  218. emss

WildHeartless nobody sells it in secret garden, the merchant doesnt have mastery books… atleast in Europe Maple Story.. Any1 have any ideas?

  219. WildHeartless

emss… you buy them from a merchant in the basement of the secret garden

  220. emss

any1 knows where to buy skill books after red patch on eMS? Would use some help cause i keep looking and cant find

  221. Ayumilove Post author

@Jesse: I have not updated to GMS new release yet, probably would do it in the weekend.

  222. Jesse

Is this updated with the new update?

  223. Game

how can you max 2 job with only 30 skill points 10 lvl? pliz help

  224. Willington

Hi the date is currently February second 2014 I want to know two things, when is the dual blade revamp goog to happen in windia? And also, I am a level 163 dual blade with 191k range, is that godly for DBS this year in my world?

  225. JDPsy

Hello Ayumi, i have my dual blade in lvl 172 and i have one question, how many hyper skill point did you get for pasive, i mean, phantom blow reinforced, etc etc etc…?

  226. Stanley

I heard GMS is gonna start db red impact but there are skills such as slash storm, mirror image…. so how do we upgrade them? can we use the books we buy from hen potion shop?

  227. Jeff

I don’t see Blade Ascension as a skill for DB at lvl 60. I’m playing on GMS, maybe I’m missing something?

  228. Someperson

Wait a minute, according to this Shadow meld no longers give us dbs 7 seconds of crit O.O is this true or just a typo?

  229. FunPls

@Gmsplayer, I believe this is the final patch of the RED update, since GMS is still in the “E”(Zero) patch, we’ll just have to wait a bit. Hope you understand (Korean is first language, so sorry if any errors)

  230. Gmsplayer

What happened to Blade Ascension on GMS? It’s in KMS but not GMS why?? T_T

  231. Ayumilove Post author

Hi AnotherSEAPlayer, Dual Blade no longer requires to purchase Mastery Book from Cash Shop after RED. In GMS, you can purchase these mastery books from NPC located in Henesys and Leafre. However, if MSEA would like to be different than GMS (e.g. skill name different than GMS), then probably Dual Blade would still require @CASH to purchase them. From my personal opinion, the chances of it happening is slim since Dual Blade has join into Adventurer class. They would need the switching happen (from Dual Blade to Night Lord or Shadower and vice versa)

  232. AnotherSEAPlayer

Erm i want to ask you weather the DB still need Cash(@cash for SEA) Mastery BooK after Red?

  233. Ryudorobo(scania)

Hey guys, i just found out that so far ALL skills for dual blade can be completely maxed (for a fact jobs 1, 2, 2+, 3 and 3+ are certained to be maxed)

  234. HiImTato

Hi, there are some changes that are not in GMS maplestory like the new skill: Blade ascencion or the change of Sudden Raid, is because the DB revamp in red is only for korea?

  235. vfevdfv

  236. Gmsplayer

Can’t progress with the SP setting until your reply T_T

  237. Gmsplayer

Hey Ayumi, I just took the open job advancement to dual blade, and there was no blade ascension in the skill inventory of 3rd job or 3rd job+? yet it is on your guide?

  238. Xenon

Basically,in the first job advancement, you need to add only 4 SP to Bandit Slash?

  239. Raizen

Hey Ayumi GMS said job advancement can only be done once
will this affect all the extra job advancement of the Dual Blade?

  240. Ayumilove Post author

Hi SEAPLAYER, after RED patch, all skill books (not mastery books) will be removed. Upon 4th Job Advancement, you will immediately get/unlock all 4th job skills. As for mastery books (20, 30), you can trade in with NPC salesman Bucklerman who is located in Henesys and Leafre for either books. He also sells generic/common Mastery Book 20 (7m meso) and Mastery Book 30 (10m meso) which has 100% success rate! (now everyone can avoid failing mastery books) These mastery book can be use for any 4th job skills that requires mastery book to uncap the level.

After RED patch will dual blade automatically learned phantom blow and final cut or you will still need mastery books?

  242. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Vincent, you’re right. Thanks for spotting that! I have replaced Bloody Storm with Blade Furry.

  243. Vincent

ayumi why do you put the sp into bloody storm hyperskill instead of the blade furry? i’m currently playing a db in msea and was thinking isn’t blade furry more important than bloody storm during higher levels?

  244. thederp96

i’m pretty sure there’s an npc selling mastery books for a 100% success rate, but.. it’s not necessarily that cheap for unfunded people like me 7m-10m I heard.

  245. Icarus

Why does Dual Blade require Mastery Books after the RED patch T_T
    Shouldn’t they just remove it?

  246. Juniar

why the channel karma not longer stack with another attack buff , this is quit annoying .

  247. Ayumilove Post author

@Crazy: I prefer Shadower though. Simple to use and its equips are widely available (cheap), therefore easier to fund for already scrolled/potential equips. If you are digging for unique combat style, you should try Dual Blade. They are amazingly fast if you know how to control it 🙂 Or just try Thunder Breaker aka Striker Revamp (it is similar to it = moving quite fast + has combo moves + no mastery book funding required)

  248. Ayumilove Post author

@answer: Kaiser, Xenon, Aran, Dual Blade or Mercedes, Demon Slayer. Each job will allow you to experience different gaming style since they have their own unique combat system.

  249. Leonid

Hi Ayumilove, i recently made a dual blade and it wont let me get to job 3 cause it says that i need to use up all my skill points but i cant unless i buy a book cause there are just not enough skills you put all the points in and it cost like 50m in fm. So is there a quest that i can do to get the book for free and if there isnt a quest then how do i come by them

  250. answer this plz i want to know too

Hi ayumi. I’m thinking of getting a dualblade, but it needs a lot of funding right? Can I ask, in your opinion, what is the top 5 must-play jobs? Regarding overall perfomance. 🙂 Thank you.

  251. Crazy

hey would yu perfer db or shad after red
to me they both look strong but in the long run who is better?
    -better to play with
    – less funding more attack
    – mobbing
    -fast leveling

  252. slasher

    Ok thx very much ayumi.

  253. Ayumilove Post author

Hi slasher, it will automatically receive the new skills. If the skill overhaul is large, they will provide auto-reset SP scrolls or automatically reset the skill points for you 🙂

  254. slasher

If I had a dual blade before the patch will it receive the new skills if mine is ady 100+level?

  255. Austin

I have gotten phantom blow from the root abyss bosses too.

  256. POPPING

@mapleman: from zak and hilla. but the drop rate is TERRIBLE. Chaos version has higher drop rate, but harder to survive. or u could wait till RED where all SKILL books are removed 🙂

  257. mapleman

where can I get phantom blow and final cut skills books

  258. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Deathdemon, there shouldn’t be any storyline change for Dual Blade because RED perform skill revamp.

  259. Deathdemon

Hi ayumi, will there be any change to the storyline in the red update to duelblade?

  260. Fanboys

Hi ayumi. I’m thinking of getting a dualblade, but it needs a lot of funding right? Can I ask, in your opinion, what is the top 5 must-play jobs? Regarding overall perfomance. 🙂 Thank you.

  261. ShYGuY154

With Dual Bladers now becoming official adventurers, is it confirmed that phantoms can steal their skills? If so, then I’m expecting to see Final Cut stolen for the insane damage boost.

Hi Martin, probably Q4 2013. The longer they delay the KOC revamp, GMS will get RED later unless they bunch both updates into 1 large patch.
