Cannon Blaster will be your primary 1st job training skill. First, max Monkey Push to allow faster traveling between towns and to quickly reach monsters. Max Cannon Boost to have a better base damage before proceeding with maxing Cannon Blaster. Once these 2 skills are at their full potential, max Blast Back (which can be used as a teleporting skill while traveling) and dump the other remaining Skill Points (SP) into Cannon Strike. Cannon Strike is not effective against cluster of weak monsters, better go with Cannon Blaster from the start.

You can either switch Barrel Bomb with Scatter Shot, but don’t max Scatter Shot since Barrel Bomb base damage will be further improved in 3rd job. Monkey Wave grants bonus Critical Rate which allows you to have higher chance of dealing critical damage against your enemies whereas higher skill level of Cannon Jump increases your jump height, making it easier to reach high level platform with ease and to navigate/cycle hard-to-travel maps for training or can be used to travel long distance maps should you not have any access to VIP Teleport Rock.

Cannoneer Storyline

The player starts off as an enthusiastic, young Pirate en route to Victoria Island. In the middle of the ocean, a Jr. Balrog descends on the ship, attacking the crew. Powerless to stop him, the Pirate is pushed off the doomed ship into the deep sea. When the Pirate sees daylight and feels coarse sand again, he/she is greeted by a monkey, who refutes the Pirate’s claim that he/she used their ‘awesome swimming skills’ to reach the shore. The Pirate later meets a ragged man, who was also stranded on the island, though at a different time. The man reveals his name to be Cutter and tasks the Pirate to gather equipment for the finishing touches on the man’s plan for salvation, a giant two-man cannon. Cutter and the Pirate, along with the monkey from the beach, then ride the cannon to the town of Nautilus Harbor where the young Pirate’s adventure begins.

Any idea if Monkey Militia, (and potentially the new 5th job skill that summons another monkey) is affected by Corsair’s union effect of increased summon duration? Or is this by buff duration?

  3. Ayumilove Post author

@Mark: Any negative status effects inflicted by your character skill or your allies is considered a Status Effect that allows Cadena’s Skill “Unfair Advantage | Intensive Insult” linked to your character to deal additional damage against them.

Hey great guide you have here. I just came back to maple not long ago, and now that there are so many new jobs, i just want to know in your honest opinion how strong cannoneer is as compared to the rest of the classes now 🙂

  7. Ayumilove Post author

@Hizanagiku: Thanks for the feedback! I’ll update the Cannoneer Hyper Skill icon “Cannon Barrage” once I got hold of the updated pictures to be uploaded here.

  8. Hizanagiku

Hey ayumi when I was checking the hyper skills I noticed that the picture for cannon barrage-reinforce is the picture for cannon bazooka
Just thought to let you know

  9. A 214 Cannoneer

@Z_Tek_Lion, You’r main skills in/past 4th job will obviously be cannon barrage, and bazooka for single target or mobbing. If you’re got an elite mob or a large group in front of you, throw out monkey fury for the 40% damage bonus amplification.

When bossing especially, you want to make sure you’re using your monkey militia, anchor’s aweigh and rolling rainbow for the added damage.

My buff macros, personally, have booster, monkey magic, and buckshot in one, maple warrior and pirate’s spirit in the other.

Barrel Roulette and roll the dice are super strong abilities, but their RNG can often make them make them super useless and they have exceptionally long cast times, even on ropes. I’ll usually only use them when training on 2x, in hopes of a 6 roll, or before entering a boss fight, hoping for the 5 roll and lightning/skull barrel. If you feel like you want to work these into your regular buffs, I’d highly recommend learning to save nautilus strike for right after both them, and then again after 30 seconds, will help you use them ALOT more often, just be careful not to get rid of lightning barrel/5 rolls on the dice. Buff duration does affect these, and I would highly advise getting yourself at least 30% buff duration from your inner ability and a mechanic character card.

As for monkey wave, I did have it hotkeyed for a while, but i often found it more harmful than good to my damage output, as it took away from the time you spend on barrage/bazooka, and the damage is subpar at best. The stun can be useful, but it doesn’t affect most, if any bosses.

If I can find a spot on my keyboard once we get our next 5th job skills, I might try to work it into my regular rotations, but highly unlikely.

  10. Ayumilove Post author

@Benjie: Thanks for sharing your pros on Cannoneer! I have added into the guide above 🙂

  11. Z_TEK_LION

So, after 4th job what skills is important to have on the hot key?(like is monkey furry, monkey wave… important after 4th job?) and is there any buffs i should leave out or use everything? because alot of buffs can’t be put on macro.

  12. Benjie

Pro – Using Monkey Push / Monkey Boost and Cannon Jump, Cannoneer can be the fastest class in Maplestory.
(Kinda like how Blaster uses Detonate, but I’d say easier to repeat over and over)

  13. Ayumilove Post author

@ShoKnowMerci: Purchase a SP (Skill Point) Reset coupon from Cash Shop to reset the skill. This requires using real money. The free alternative method is to recreate this character from scratch, which definitely will take some time to level up. If you do not have much time to spend, you may want to consider using the paid method.

  14. ShoKnowMerci

omg i messed up , i didn’t realise that barrel bomb was required for monkey’s fury and now I can’t use monkey’s fury . What do I do.

  15. Jonathan Ho Wei En

How to distribute hyperstat for cannon master? 🙂

  16. V3Vincent

    Old:
    Buckshot,
Temporarily increase attack count of all of his skills by 3 times but decreases his damage by 40% for 180 seconds. MP Cost: 300, Duration: 180 sec, Number of Attacks of All Skills: x3, Damage Reduction: -40%

    New:
    Buckshot,
All Skills Attack Count x3 For 180 sec. Final Damage – 45%

  17. Miles

Hi ayumi! Thank you so much for making these I use them all the time, but it seems like the names, and levels of your hyper skills. (not sure if its all of them) are incorrect. THe only one i am sure on is the enhance I know that is 143. Thanks!

  18. Lones

Hey Ayumi nice guide! I found that for 2nd job, scatter shot should be 19/20 instead of 15/20. minor error, but trying to help ya out! 😀

  19. Sovoer

    Ok, Thanks

  20. Ayumilove Post author

@Sovoer: Add 1 SP (Skill Point) to unlock those skills first before proceeding to max the important skills. If you lack 1 SP from Job Advancement, level up and add 1 SP to the other skill which you have not added yet. Add 1 SP SP into active skills first (Cannon Bazooka, Cannon Barrage, Anchors Aweigh) to help you with your training style then passive (Cannon Overload).

  21. Sovoer

On GMS One your reach your 4th Job Advancement you only get 3 skill point not 4. Just wonder how I should spend the 3 skill points. Thanks Sovoer

  22. Ayumilove Post author

@LaLaLove: Thanks for your input! I’ll add that skill name “Monkey Boost” to the “Monkey Push” into the guide!

  23. LaLaLove

Monkey Push is available in MSEA, but the skill name is called “Monkey Boost”

  24. FutureCannoneer

    1. Cannon Bazooka – Spread (MAX)
    2. Cannon Bazooka – Reinforce (MAX)
    3. Cannon Bazooka –Extra Strike (MAX)
    4. Cannon Barrage – Extra Strike (MAX)
    5. Cannon Barrage – Reinforce (MAX

I feel like you should add 1 point into the extra monkey and 1 point into bazooka for +1 more line. The extra monkey gives you more DPS during bossing.

  25. Ayumilove Post author

    @Nel: Yeah, 3 hits (60% x 3) with Buckshot buff VS 1 hit (100%) without Buckshot buff.

  26. Nel

For buckshot, does it work this way?
    Original line = 100%
    Buffed = 60% x 3 = 180%

  27. Ayumilove Post author

@NewCannoneer: Thanks for your feedback 🙂

  28. NewCannoneer

Wow Ayumilove your the best skill build 😀

  29. Ayumilove Post author

@kwegh: I have updated the guide now 🙂

  30. Ayumilove

In the guide it says that monkey push is not available in GMS but its available now.

  31. Ayumilove Post author

@Lena: If you are hitting max damage with 1 strike, its probably worth while to get the 3 strikes for extra damage 😀

  32. Ayumilove Post author

@Unithes18: Thanks for taking the time to point out the mistakes. I have corrected the “Cannon Blast” to “Cannon Blaster”!

  33. Unithes18

Hi Ayumi, im leveling a new cannoneer following your skill build and it looks pretty neat! but just a little thing:

In your guide, its spelled cannon blast, and in GMS as im playing now, it says cannon blaster

  34. Lena

Is buckshot really useful? 3 extra strike but reduce overall dmg by 40%

  35. Ayumilove Post author

@Zechariah: Some jobs will have excess SP (Skill Points) as their skills are revamped (decreased in their maximum mastery level). So no worries about it 🙂

  36. Zechariah

Hi! Thanks for the guide! it’s really awesome! Btw, i have 3 left over Skill points after my first job advancement. I have no idea how it came about but everything else in my skills list are max! Is there a way you can advice me?

  37. Ayumilove Post author

@Ltohack: Thanks for the note regarding the 5 SP (Skill Points) for Cannoneer.

  38. Ayumilove Post author

@Kenny: It seems that GMS and MSEA did not obtain the latest skill changes from KMS which includes the Monkey Push skill. We will need to wait for another skill revamp on Cannon Master 1st Job Skills.

  39. Ayumilove Post author

@Miranda: Monkey Push is not available for both MSEA and GMS for now, but there are available in KMS. Will need to wait for another future revamp for Cannoneer. Without Monkey Push, this class is awfully slow 🙁

  40. Ayumilove Post author

@Taco: Monkey Push is available in KMS. However, this skill is not available in both GMS and MSEA. Since Extalia is based on GMS version, it will have the missing Monkey Push skill.

  41. Taco

Why don’t I have monkey push on my 1st job advancement? (PS I play on a server called Extalia)

  42. Miranda

@Kenny My cannoneer in MSEA also did not have Monkey Push in 1st job skill…

  43. Kenny

Ayumi, why is it that when i change from my Viper to a Cannon Master, i found out that there is no monkey push is my 1st job skill tab, is this a bug? Or could it be that only those who started with Cannon Master from 1st job onwards will only have it?

  44. PerQs

I found out that, DBladers and Cannoneers share Cash-shop with Regular Adventures now.

  45. Ltohack

This isn’t confirmed but during the v.123 Tempest patch (GMS), it is indicated in the patch notes that:

“Explorer classes, Aran, Cannoneer and Dual Blade that use combined SP system will receive 4 additional SP at job advancement.”

So I assume they receive 5 SP upon first job advancement. Again this isn’t confirmed. If I have time, I’ll try to confirm this with a cannoneer and maybe even adventurers.

  46. Ayumilove Post author

@Ltohack: Thanks for your feedback. I’m just wondering, does Adventurer obtain 5 SP when they first start their 1st job advancement?

  47. Ltohack

There is an error in this guide. Everything in first job is maxed. (GMS atleast)

  48. JamesLe

Hi Ayumilove, Can you make a Maplestory post Red update training guide for Cannoneers or any job because I’m having trouble leveling up.

  49. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Lol, the video uploader who host the Cannon Shooter vs Zakum has removed the video. I’ll remove it from my guide since its non-existent 🙂

  50. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Marcus, in GMS it is labeled as Luck of the Die. According to the Oxford Dictionary (US and UK versions) the word “dice” is used for both singular and plural. It also mentions that the use of “die” is becoming increasingly uncommon. I prefer Luck of the Dice as the skill name though.

  51. Marcus

    Sorry, Luck of the Dice*

  52. Marcus

Um, I think its “Roll of the Dice” not “Roll of the Die”?

  53. Lol

Your zak bossing video is off. can put a new one? Thanks 😀

  54. Ayumilove Post author

Thanks MegaOddish for the correction. I have updated Cannon Bazooka from 3 to 4 hits.

  55. Novakaiser

Hey ayumi, sorry for the late reply. And sure I will help u spot your mistake at some guides and keep it up!!!

  56. MegaOddish

Erm Cannon Bazooka hits 4 times now after some patch (tempest I think). Pls update accordingly.

  57. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Novakaiser, if you spot any mistakes/issues or questions regarding my guides, please do not hesitate to notify me 😀

  58. Novakaiser

Hi ayumi, thx for updating the guide so fast and I will keep looking at your other guides.Thx hope u make more guides.:)

  59. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Novakaiser, you’re right. I’ll update the guide to max Monkey Wave for its passive bonus Critical Rate which applies for all skills. For the jump, every SP (Skill Point) in it will make you jump higher (as for some MapleStory players says). I’ll revise the 3rd Job Skill Build for Cannoneer.

  60. Novakaiser

Sorry for not continue writing but I also find myself using canon jump more often than monkey wave but after the 4th job the cannon barrage skill also adds critical rate for that skill only so if u use cannon barrage the critical rate is 60% if I am not wrong.

  61. Novakaiser

Thx for your suggestion but monkey wave permanently increases your critical rate by 20% during max and does cannon jump jumps higher if the skill level increases?thx

  62. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Novakaiser, it depends on your gamestyle. Do you find yourself using Monkey Wave more often than Cannon Jump? If yes, then put SP (Skill Points) into maxing Monkey Wave, otherwise max Cannon Jump instead. For my training and bossing, not even once Monkey Wave is used because the delay is awfully longer which I could dish 2-3 primary attacking skills against an opponent(s).

  63. Novakaiser

thx but should i max the wave or jump?

  64. Ayumilove Post author

HI Novakaiser, refer to the Cannoneer guide as shown above.

  65. Novakaiser

Hey ayumilove you still thr I was wondering which skill I should max during my 3rd job?thx in advance

Does that mean that Gamestop has already placed a company-wide stance on the PSP.

While technology will always continue to move forward, the classic

    Let’s see…. *grammatical *errorS

PS : Don’t be an idiot. You came here to read a guide and get a general feel of the mechanics of this character, not indulge in self-righteous correction. If you ain’t happy with the standard of English here, by all means, go elsewhere. And speaking of which, your level of English isn’t all that impressive either, dumb ass.

Thanks pau for your feedback. I rarely use the Monkey Wave except for Spike in training. Maybe for bossing is better?

  70. pau

    Hi Ayumi-chan,
My Wave is 19, cos I maxed spike instead. I find spike comes out faster.. and alto 4th job has blast.. it’s not as fast .. and at lvl 1-5, it just doesn’t kill as fast as spike. But my friend maxed wave and put spike at 19.. and he says that alto wave is slow.. at bossing.. once used.. the critical goes up.. I haven’t tried it in bossing.. so can’t comment on his suggestion. Thnx for update n reply.. love ur guides. Great effort and so much work put into it. Really appreciate it

  71. Perse

    Just a small mistake:
MAPLESTORY OLD TO NEW OFFICIAL SKILL NAMES
    Cannoneer 3rd Job Skills:
Lucky Dice -> Luck of the “Die”

  72. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Pau, I have Cannon Shooter too and I don’t find myself using Monkey Wave often compared to Cannon Jump since its slow as you mentioned. So if you have it max, its not bad at all 🙂 I’ll update the guide above for Cannon Shooter 3rd Job. How much SP you have in Monkey Wave? Is it 19/20? Would like to confirm my SP calculation.

  73. pau

Hi ayumi-chan, pau here again. Noticed ur cannon guide 3rd job says dun max jump.. but now since it is only 5.. why not max it and leave Monkey Wave unmaxed. did this cos wave is slow to come out.. I maxed spike and jump and left out wave. So far.. no regrets.. what do you think?

  74. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Kelvin Wong, it is the same as the regular 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Job Skills. However, hyper skills are unlocked at a certain level. Therefore, some are grayed. Check out the hyper skill guide on this site to find out whats the minimum level it gets unlocked.

  75. Kelvin Wong

hyper skill how to up ??

  76. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Nero, Xenon has the best mobility (fly, flash jump) and high damage (similarly to Kaiser).

  77. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Xiao Yan, thanks for the correction. I have updated Cannon Jump Max Level from 15 to 5.

  78. Xiao Yan

Erm in maplesea, the max level of cannon jump is 5 not 15. Can you please correct the mistakes? Thanks in advance.

  79. Nero

Ayumi love which job are best on mobility??and high damage

  80. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Nero, both are equally strong. What I dislike about Aran is spamming the attack button instead of just holding down. This is similar to Demon Slayer attack, which requires you to tap few times to get into different stages of slashing. Cannoneer is just plain simple, tap the skill button once and it dishes a powerful damage. However, the damage dished out is not as strong as a Mechanic, although its a little powerful compared to a Mercedes. In maneuverability aspects, both Aran and Cannoneer is weak compared to other legendary or special explorer/adventurer classes. In short, I can say both jobs are mediocre.

  81. Nero

aran or cannoneer which best ??????????

  82. MaxLam

cannon bazooka hit 4 times now not 2

  83. Ayumilove Post author

Thanks Maple Seow for the correction! I’ll be updating the description now 🙂

  84. Maple Seow

    Hi,
A minor error – “Cannoneer 4th Job Skill Build: Everything maxed except Cannon Jump.” Should be 3rd job

  85. Ayumilove Post author

Thanks Nova for spotting it, I’ll be correcting the skill name now 🙂

  86. Nova

in second job the skill is called “pirate training” but it says max physical training just letting you know =)

  87. Ayumilove Post author

Hi BananaPhone, Wind Archer followed by Dawn Warrior, Thunder Breaker, Blaze Wizard and Night Walker in terms of damage. But their leveling speed differs between jobs though since some job gets AOE (Area of effect) skills faster.

  88. BananaPhone

Which Cygnus knight is strongest? Please reply

  89. Ayumilove Post author

Hi blacklaptopo, thanks for spotting the missing skill! I have corrected Cannoneer 4th Job Skill Build by including Monkey Militia skill 🙂

  90. blacklaptop0

You did not include Monkey Militia at all in your skill spread for Cannoneer 4th Job. Was this intentional? It doesn’t make much sense to me and I’m just checking to make certain it was not simply overlooked.

  91. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Light, thanks for pointing it out regarding Barrel Roulette Passive Effect which increases damage by 1% per level (+10% Damage at max level). I’ll be correcting the skill build guide for Cannoneer 3rd Job 🙂

  92. Light

    hey ayumilove
i just made a cannoeer (4/4/13) and the skills other than cannon spike increases your stats passively especially barrel roulette which increases your damage by 1% each sp spent on it
just to fix a great guide from a great guide maker…..
    ^^;

  93. Zach

I noticed it seems like an explorer where points form job 1 can go into job 2, so then putting no points into the boxing glove might be more optimal? I wonder if it goes the same into 3rd and 4th job .-.

  94. Thomas Beh

when will cannon shooter come back?

  95. Aaron Frost

cannoneer can only be made on special days like this upcomeing sep 25th

  96. Deity

And, how do you become Cannoneer?

  97. Deity

Will Cannon Shooter come back to the USA? Because I have become interested in it. Will Demon Slayer and Mercedes also come back with him if he comes back?

  98. Beginner

Any recommended item for pure str cannon shooter?

  99. DICKSON SIM

    ok,TQ

  100. Ayumilove Post author

Followed by basically means, the next thing after the first. For example, alphabet A B and C. A comes first, followed by B and C. They go in sequence 🙂

  101. DICKSON SIM

what is the meaning of follow by?

  102. DICKSON SIM

    ok n thanks

  103. Ayumilove Post author

Both Mercedes and Cannon Shooter are about higher than average. On the other hand, Mechanic are much more stronger even though you are not equipped with godly equipment since the passive skill add bulk of the damage.

You can dump all SP (skill points) into STR (Strength) provided that you have enough DEX (Dexterity) to wield armor/weapon. If you are funded (rich), you can purchase scrolled equips that already has DEX and you can safely add the SP into STR, otherwise, you will be missing a lot when you try to hit enemies above your level, especially bosses.

  104. DICKSON SIM

I would like to ask which job is stronger, Mercedes or Cannon Shooter?
Also, can I dump all points into strength?
