  3. Execuxion

Is the stats accurate on all other job ? because the chain lightning for I/L now is 230% for 8 times instead of 300% for 6 times. And latest patch now Arcane Aim is buffed by bit on all explorer mages, so it is now 80% chance to proc 8% dmg boost that can stack up to 5 times

  4. Execuxion

Hi is the stats still accurate because im seeing chain lightning skill in 4th job @lvl 30 is 230% dmg for 8 times ingame instead of 300% for 6 times here. And recent patch in MapleSEA buffed the Arcane Aim skill on explorer mages FP IL and bishop, it is now 80% chance to proc 8% dmg buff that can stack up to 5 times as long as your skill hits something (instead of the old requirement of when hitting 3 or more targets)

  5. Ayumilove Post author

@Ilovemaple: Thanks for the correction on Absolute Zero Aura! I have updated the skill description.

  7. Ilovemaple

For the Absolute Zero Aura, the 150 hyper skill, the mp cost is 60 per second too

  8. Ayumilove Post author

@Ilovemaple: Thanks for the correction on Chain Lightning – Reinforce (+10% Damage). I have updated the skill description.

  9. Ilovemaple

For the chain lightning – reinforce, it says Damage +10%, not 20%
it says 10% in the actual game*

  10. Ayumilove Post author

@SpaceHamster: Chilling Step and Teleport Mastery are 2 different skills. You can enable Chilling Step without enabling Teleport Mastery. The cons section refers to Teleport Mastery. Also, thanks again for the notice about Chilling Step is not affected by damage reflect. I have updated the skill description.

  11. SpaceHamster

Hiya, the ingame description of Chilling Step says that it’s not affected by Attack Deflection, so will this be updated in the cons section?
    Thanks!

  12. Ayumilove Post author

@Vini: Get each equip at least 6% stat and when you have sufficient funding, can go up to 12~15% stat per equip. With 6 weapon and armmor equips each providing all stat +12% (total: 72%) and accessories equips at 10%, this provides about 80% all stat which is sufficient to solo Horntail at Level 160. For inner ability, you can go for at least Epic Rank with Attack/Magic-Attack +9~12 or Unique Rank with Attack/Magic-Attack +15~21.

  13. Ayumilove Post author

@NewMaple: Well, its basically the active skills that you can use in that particular job.
    1st Job: Energy Bolt
2nd Job: Thunder Bolt or Cold Beam
3rd Job: Ice Strike with Thunder Storm
4th Job: Chain Lightning with Frozen Orb and Blizzard.

  14. Ayumilove Post author

@Rozerozh: Thanks for sharing your pros and cons on Ice/Lightning Mage! I have added them into the pros and cons section.

  15. Rozerozh

    Hi Ayumi
here’s my additional pros and cons for Arch mage I/L

(I play the character myself at Lv: 205, so I think my opinion could be useful somehow)

    Pros
    – The binding skill also has the ability to decrease Def and M.def and also causes invincibility to escaping OHKO moves from bosses, such as Arkarium, Von Leon, and Empress.. anything really
    – Has pretty far teleport distance from Hyper skill
    – Has high Crit Chance and Crit Dmg from the passive skill
    – Bolt Barrage is so freaking cool 🙂

    Cons
    – TONS of buffing skills
    – Teleport Mastery (Toggle) will make you die from the reflection skill if you forget to turn it off in boss fight
    – no 100% stance is annoying
    – 0% MP also means 0% HP
    – Truly shine after 5th job

  16. Vin

I’m the one posted in the paladin guide .. typo

  17. Vini

Can someone explain to me why some videos on youtube shows that chain lightning can hit up to roughly 9-10 hits while the skills only indicates it hits 6 times? Even with the hyper skill the most is 7 hit isn’t it?

  19. NewMaple

Hi Ayumilove. What is primary attacking/training skill for Ice Lightning Archmage.
    – 1ST JOB: Energy Bolt
    – 2ND JOB: ???
    – 3RD JOB: ???
    – 4TH JOB: ???
    Could you suggest me, please?

  20. Qriox

@Ayumilove: CC stands for Crowd control. This class CC ability is the Freezing Breath, that binds enemies, making them unable to attack

  21. Ayumilove Post author

@Qriox: Thanks for sharing the pros for Ice Lightning mage! I have added them the pros and cons section above. What is CC ability?

  22. Qriox

Some pro’s for the Ice Lightning mage
    1) This class has great mobbing.
    2) Has a ton of CDs to worry about, doesn’t just spam one skill over and over.
    3) Has a bind, which is a sought after CC ability for bossing.
    4) Helps when bosses chases targets by chilling/slowing them.

@Leafy: Thanks for pointing out! I’ll update Bolt Barrage aka Thunder Break and also Ice Age skill description.

  24. Leafy

Hello, I love the guides on here and I follow most of them as I know nothing besides I/L. I just wanted to note that Bolt Barrage / Thunder Break, at least in the current GMS patch I play, is different than what is up there. The bolt keeps striking the same place if it hits a wall and the damage scaling is 780% per hit at level 1 and 1500% at level 25. Also, Ice Age has been changed to a 30 second uptime with 60 second cd

    @IceNation

I have send you an email to you on mine discord name and #

Came back to maple after many years and wish to start ice/ lightning mage as main and have some question to ask.

    Thanks.

  26. IceNation

    @Ming

You can add me on discord. You can send your discord name and number to my email:
    [email protected]

Great to see that you enjoy I/L

  27. Ming

    *Update to my previous comment*

I tried Frozen Orb at Zakum and some mini-bosses and WOW!!!!!! The sheer power even at level 111 is AMAZING.

So I now understand why Frozen Orb is for bossing. 🙂

  28. Ayumilove Post author

@Jillian: Thanks for the notice! I’ll add in Ice/Lightning 5th Job Skill Name “Bolt Barrage” into the guide above. Bolt Barrage is the name for GMS, however, Thunder Break is the name used in MapleSEA aka MSEA. Therefore, I’ll be keeping this for SEA player reference.

  29. Ming

    Hello IceNation:

Thanks for your reply! That is very useful advice for me. Sorry I don’t know how to add you on discord so I’m replying here.

I see what you mean about different I/L variants but I guess since I’m mostly playing alone, a mobbing/grinding style of I/L would be best suited for me. If I don’t boss then am I right to say leaving magic guard on isn’t really necessary?

If I understand you correctly, chain lightning is definitely the most useful spell for attacking. Then Ice Strike is used for freezing, Frozen Orb for bossing and Blizzard for awesome full screen coverage.

Does that mean these skills are useless and should not be activated?
    – thunderstorm
    – teleport mastery
    – infinity
    – elquines

    Thanks!

  30. Jillian

Hi Ayumilove, Thunder Break is called Bold Barrage now. If you want to update that (:
*** Bolt Barrage (my autocorrect is horrible, sorry)
***Bolt Barrage (my auto correct is horrid, sorry)

  31. IceNation

For bossing you should try to keep your ice stacks up. Frozen orb, absoute zero aura and blizzard help hereby. You can add me on discord if you have more questions

  32. IceNation

    Hi Ming.

I/L main here. I would say that it really depends on what you like. Everyone plays I/L different. I use ice strike and chain lightning for mobbing. For bossing I use chain lightning and frozen orb.

Buffs I use: magic booster, meditation, elemental decrease, maple warrior
Attack skills: Chain lightning, ice strike, blizzard, frozen orb, lightning orb
I have magic guard always on.

  33. Ming

Hello, not sure if anyone is still watching this space but I just got back to MapleStory and am determined to play my I/L Archmage. Unfortunately with all the skill changes I am completely lost as to what skills and buffs should always be kept on and what skills are useful for training. I intend to grind mainly with the odd boss here and there.

To me, these are the skills required:
    Killing – chain lightning, blizzard
Buffs that should be used all the time – meditation, magic booster, elemental decrease, elquines, maple warrior, teleport mastery
Buffs depending on situation – magic guard, hero’s will

Is the above correct and can I simply ignore all other skills? I am only at 4th job so that’s all I know at the moment, if someone could advise up to 5th job that would be great.

Thanks! If anyone is out there 🙂

  34. Moe

just a correction, Freezing Breath does freeze bosses very useful in cra , hilla but not zak, also i think Thunder Bolt should be maxed instead of Cold Beam, because archmage 3rd job fokuses on ice so you need a thunder support to get a critical attacks, thnx for the guide your website is really helpful!

  35. Ayumilove Post author

@monk: Thanks for your correction! I have upated Ice/Lightning 3rd Job Skill (Elemental Decrease) details to include the 50% final damage at max level!

  36. monk

Elemental decrease should be maxed much earlier, it gives 50% final damage.

  37. Franconia

Anybody have suggestions about skill usage? I’m at fourth job and I feel like I have a ton of abilities, between buffs, long casts (thunder cloud, ice ball) and regular spells. I’m trying to figure out efficiency.

  38. Jin

Did Lightning Orb got changed from hitting multiple lines of 125% to one line of 700%?

  39. Ray

Would love to hear your explanations behind the skill allocations 🙂

  40. Bacon

    Nice guide!
I would add Level 31 effects for the 4th job skills as many will choose Decent Combat Orders when 5th job is released in late 2016.

  41. Ayumilove Post author

@Alps: Thanks for your suggestion! I’ll add them to the guide above 🙂

  42. Alps

Might suggest to remove a point from ‘Chain Lightning – Spread’ and add it to ‘Frozen Orb – Critical Chance’ as:
    – Chain Lightning rarely goes beyond 6 mobs
    – Frozen Orb critical rate increase affects damage considerably since most I/L’s usually settle for ~75% critical rate and the skill is used very often to maintain ice stacks

  43. Silly91

Hey, I’m pretty certain the hyper skill level requirements have been changed?

  44. Ayumilove Post author

@Alex: Cold Beam has further forward attacking range and able to freeze enemies for 8 seconds if they are not eliminated within the first hit. Thunderbolt requires the player to be in the mob for maximum coverage of enemies being hit. I would sacrifice a few percentage of damage for conveniences and freeze effect.

  45. Alex

Hello Ayumi! For the second job, why do you max cold beam instead of thunderbold? Doesn’t thunderbolt do more damage?

  46. Ayumilove Post author

@jaurchi: Yes, this is GMS version for MapleStory Ice Lightning Arch Mage Skills.

  47. jaruchi

This is what is GMS version?

  48. Ayumilove Post author

@Steven: The Cygnus Knights picture was obtained from Google Images 🙂

  49. Steven

Hey Ayumi where did you get the ending background picture of the Cygnus Knights they look cute!

  50. MisterLuck

hey Ayumi, you made a tiny mistake in second job!
Freezing Crush has been changed to 3% crit dmg per stack and 8% damage per stack when hit with lightning.

  51. Ayumilove Post author

    [GMS v.154]
    1. Updated Ice/Lightning 4th Job Skill Frozen Orb. Attack delay is set to 210ms.

  52. Ayumilove Post author

@Bella: The buff skills can be macroed such as (2nd job: Meditation, Magic Booster, Maple Warrior ) whereas for Quick Slot Button (Chilling Step, Elemental Decrease, Thunder Storm, Infinity, Elquines). Solo training basically activates those macro-ed skills, whereas the Quick Slot ones is dependent on the training situation and how you use to pair them with your main offensive skill (e.g. Chain Lightning).

  53. Bella

Too many skills, so confusing 🙁 What’s the best skills & buffs to put in Macro for solo training with max Chain Lightning?

  54. Ayumilove Post author

Hi juanchi, thanks for the notice. I have corrected it 🙂

  55. juanchi

You confused at the very beginning. You put bishop instead of ice ligtning.

  56. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Jay, I have switched Ice Strike to Glacier Chain since it can be used till 4th Job that combos well with Chain Lightning.

  57. Ayumilove Post author

Thanks KumriRyuX for the notice! I’ll add the Elemental Adaptation into Ice/Lightning 3rd Job Skill Build Guide.

  58. Ayumilove Post author

Hi HeroezMastazz, you can add it after High Wisdom or when you want to max Mediation, add 3 skill points into MP Eater to unlock Meditation.

  59. Mr.y

    Kk thx F2

  60. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Mr.y, Zero will be released in RED Part 2 : Child of God. That means MapleSEA must release RED Part 1 First Impact, first. GMS already released theirs on December 4 2013.

  61. Mr.y

    Went zero release in maplesea??

  62. HeroezMastazz

In GMS, you need 3stats on MP Eater to max Meditation…So when do i put 3stats in MP Eater? Do I put it after maxing High Wisdom?

  63. KumriRyuX

I’ve noticed for third job Elemental Adaptation is missing

  64. Jay

Why glacier chain over ice strike?

  65. skxy

All damage over time skill has been removed for IL, hence we can’t get benefit from Storm magic +20% damage on bosses. So I would assume freezing effect will work on boss, since it not really freeze it, just slow it down… else IL really getting a nerf 🙁

  66. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Strenling, freezing and stunning does not work on bosses as they are immune to this effect. Other non-stun effects such as lower accuracy, defense, attack, etc will work at half of its effective specs.

  67. Strenling

    Regarding the “Freezing” effect-
Does freezing work on bosses? It seems kinda useless in my mind due to the fact that regular monsters are 1 hit KO-able to have a bonus on enemies that are frozen.

  68. Musica

Whats the point of freezing breath when soloing O_o

  69. Ayumilove Post author

    You’re welcome strangegame.

  70. strangegame

    Thanks alot! =P

  71. Ayumilove Post author

Hi strangegame, I have added Ice Lightning 4th Job Skills and Hyper Skills 🙂

  72. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Cathryn, thanks for the feedback. I have updated the skill build to prioritize on Frozen Break instead of Glacial Chain!

  73. strangegame

    this one isn’t completed? =O
It ends at 3rd job only ._.
Thanks for the updates ya! =]

  74. Cathryn

Ayumi, I/L Mage 3rd Job-The Elemental Break is it Frozen Break ?, Why don’t max Frozen Break instead of Glacial Chain ?
