v.157 – Shining Star Update Highlights

How bright does your Mapler shine? Find out in the Shining Star update! This new content update introduces Star Force, a new way to enhance your equips. Twenty-one classes are getting skill updates, and there are tons of new equips to find. If that weren’t enough, explore new GMS-exclusive event dungeons and enjoy festive holiday events.

Star Force Enhancement

If you look up at the sky, you might see streaks of light arcing across the heavens. Fallen stars are landing all over Maple World and they’re making monsters stronger and energizing your items. With the new Star Force enhancement system, you can pay a meso fee and upgrade equips that have completed their scroll enhancements. With this new enhancement system, players now have an alternative path towards acquiring gear enhancements, making it easier for them to upgrade their equips. The maximum enhancement level has been adjusted based on the level requirement of the item. Old items that have been enhanced past that limit will keep their old stars.

Skill Re-balances

Nearly all of MapleStory’s classes are having some of their skills adjusted for balancing. Changes will vary and can be big or small. Whether it’s changing a skill’s cooldown time or increasing its damage, these tweaks will improve gameplay across the board. The number of Skill Points received for your 4th job is also being tweaked. From now on, all classes will only receive 255 SP within the 4th Job, and the master level on some skills will also be changed to reflect this. Ohgosh. Yay or nay?

New Equips

Say hello to more equips than you can shake a stick at! Choose from Lv. 110 Zakum’s Poisonic weapons, Lv. 120 Eclectic armor, Lv. 120 Briser weapons, Lv. 120 Necromancer armor, Lv. 130 Royal Von Leon equips (weapons and armor), Lv. 130 Jaihin weapons, Lv. 130 Muspell armor, Lv. 140 Utgard weapons, or Lv. 140 Pensalir armor. Other new accessories such as the Lv. 100 Aquatic Letter Eye Accessory and Lv. 140 Golden Clover Belt have also been added. You can even get new types of set effects if you collect a whole set of armor! This is part of Nexon’s efforts to listen to our players, and increase availability of better equipment by simply playing the game!

New Event Dungeons

Two new, GMS-exclusive dungeons are opening their doors. Visit Star World and assist the interstellar NPCs there. Earn Constellation Coins and exchange them for horoscope-themed chairs, medals, and more. Enter the Cosmos Laboratory–a giant pinball machine–to play Cosmos Knockout. Use cannons and jump platforms to defeat the boss and escape from the alien laboratory!

Holiday Events

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Happyville is back, and you can help Cliff prepare for the holiday party, decorate Christmas trees, and collect Rascal Snowpiece items to receive an awesome present! You can also get a free Christmas costume if you log in every day during the event period. Collect Nut Coins from various holiday quests and see what’s available in the Nut Coin Shop. Even Cassandra has a special Christmas present for you!

Star Force

Overview

  • Influenced by the power of the stars, many monsters across Maple World have undergone mysterious changes and become incredibly powerful. While most ordinary adventurers could easily fall victim to these stronger monsters, those blessed by Star Force may still stand a chance. Are you ready to face the challenge?
  • Introducing Star Monsters, which are stronger and more rewarding than their normal kindred. Only players who meet the star level requirement on their equipment can kill these monsters.

Star Monsters

  • Star Monsters can be found in Star Force Areas marked with a red Star sign in the World Map. The portals linking to these areas are shining in red color to indicate the danger.
  • While everyone can enter Star Force Areas and fight Star Monsters, only characters whose total equipment star level meets the requirement can deal enough damage and ultimately kill them.
  • Star Monsters will not attack players proactively, unless they are under attack.
  • Upon entering a Star Force Area, a message will pop up and show the minimum star level requirement for this area. A Star Level UI will also pop up to display character’s current star level.

Star Force Enhancement

Overview

  • Want to give your favorite gear a few shining stars, but don’t have an Advanced Equip Enhancement Scroll?
  • Similar to using Advanced Equip Enhancement Scrolls, Star Force Enhancement gives and increases star level to items with no more upgrade slots, but only at meso cost and a much lower risk. And it still works hand-in-hand with AEE scrolls.
  • With this new enhancement system, players now have an alternative path towards acquiring gear enhancements, making it easier for them to upgrade their equips.
  • Because we didn’t release Miraculous Enhancement Scrolls which caused an imbalance in KMS, we are keeping the max number of stars for high-level equipment at 15 for now, but we will be reviewing this in the future. Additionally, many of the prices for higher enhancements have been lowered slightly from the KMS prices.

How to Utilize Star Force Enhancement

  • Click on the Equipment Enchant button at the bottom right of the Item Inventory window. Drag the target equipment into the new pop-up window.
  • If the target equipment has no upgrade slots available, the Star Force Enhancement UI will pop up by default. Otherwise, Spell Trace enhancement UI will show instead.
  • Each enhancement attempt using Star Force will have the following 4 possible results. The success/failure rate scales with the current star level of target equipment, and can be confirmed in the enhancement UI. Bonus stats (if successful) can be confirmed in the same window too.
    • Success – increases star level by 1
    • Failure (keep) – star level doesn’t change
    • Failure (drop) – decreases star level by 1
    • Failure (destroy) – target equipment is destroyed
    • Click here to see the success/failure rates for non Superior items.
    • Click here to see the success/failure rates for Superior items.
  • The maximum star level depends on the level of target equipment. The possible maximum is 15 stars.
  • Each enhancement attempt charges a meso cost regardless of the result. The cost scales with the star level of the target equipment.
  • Click here to see the meso cost for non Superior items. The meso price will incrementally increase between the listed levels.
  • Click here to see the meso cost for Superior items. The meso price will incrementally increase between the listed levels.

Star Force Tiers

  • Here are the different level tiers for the max star changes:
  • Lv. 94 or lower: 5 stars (Superior equipment: 3)
  • Lv. 95 – 107: 8 stars (Superior equipment: 5)
  • Lv. 108 – 117: 10 stars (Superior equipment: 10)
  • Lv. 118 – 127: 12 stars (Superior equipment: 10)
  • Lv. 128 – 137: 13 stars (Superior equipment: 12)
  • Lv. 138 or higher: 15 stars (Superior equipment: 15)

Star Force Enhancement Success/Failure

  • Once you have started Star Force Enhancement, a mini game window will pop up. Successful completion of the mini game will increase the success rate of the enhancement.
  • If two failed attempts caused the star level to drop twice in a row, the next enhancement will be a guaranteed success.
  • Once the target equipment has reached 10 stars, its star level will not drop below this level for future failed enhancement attempts. This is only for non-Superior equipment.
  • Should the target equipment be destroyed during enhancement, you will receive an “Equipment Trace” that records all the stats of the destroyed equipment prior to using Star Force. Applying the “Equipment Trace” to a clean version of the same equipment (via Equipment Trace tab in the star enhancement window) will restore these stats – including Potentials, Bonus Potentials, Souls, and Nebulites – to the new equipment (star levels at the time of destruction will not be restored).
  • Protection Scrolls, Shielding Wards, and Superior Shielding Wards cannot be used with the Star Force Enhancement system.
  • Equipment Traces will not retain the appearance of an item that has had its appearance changed by a Fusion Anvil.

Star Force Enhancement & Advanced Equip Enhancement Scroll

  • If the target equipment has previously been enhanced by Advanced Equip Enhancement Scroll, further enhancement using Star Force will continue from that star level, and vice versa.
  • However, if a piece of Star Force enhanced equipment is destroyed by Advanced Enhancement Scroll, players will not receive “Equipment Trace”.
  • If a piece of equipment has acquired more stars than what is allowed by the equipment level requirement, it will also retain the star level and bonus stats, but cannot be further enhanced via the Star Force Enhancement.

Starstruck Areas and Monsters

  • There are now areas and monsters that have been affected by the Star Force system!
  • Certain areas have been converted to Starstruck areas that contain Starstruck monsters.
  • Monsters in Starstruck areas will not take damage unless you have a minimum number of Star Force across all your equipped gear.
  • You can check the amount of Star Force needed by viewing the area in the World Map; the number of stars needed will be located above the area name.
  • There are now Starstruck versions of the following monsters:

@Justin: Sure, once GMS has released their patch v157, will be updating Zero skills if there are changes to it 🙂

Will you be updating the guide for Zero when V157 comes out? Not sure if there are any changes to Zero.

    Thank you! 🙂
