Stonebound Thisbe begins with a chilling invocation that reflects her nature, a being shaped by stone and guided by the legacy of the Gorgoa. Long before the Gorgoa of the Stone Eyes was defeated by Pelops the Victor, a devoted cult known as the Stonebound had already formed around her. This group, largely made up of women wronged by the men in their lives, sought unity, strength, and a means to reclaim control. Blindfolded, they knelt before the Gorgoa to receive her teachings, absorbing her strange wisdom and learning to harness the quiet power of stone.
After the Gorgoa’s death, the cult did not fade. Instead, it endured under the leadership of Thisbe, once the creature’s most trusted servant. Having learned many of her mistress’s secrets, Thisbe devised a ritual that would preserve the Gorgoa’s essence and ensure the cult’s survival. What began as an act of defiance evolved into something more reverent, a sacred practice that honoured the source of their power. Under Thisbe’s guidance, the Stonebound expanded their activities, engaging in secrecy, vengeance, and protection for those cast aside by society.
The transformation of Thisbe marked a turning point. After Pelops severed the Gorgoa’s head, her followers carried the body deep underground to a hidden place of power. There, they shattered the stone corpse, ground it into powder, and mixed it with oils and water to create a sacred paste. This substance was layered onto Thisbe while chants echoed through the cavern, each handful infused with blood. For nine days she remained encased, and when she emerged, she was no longer fully human but a being of living stone.
Thisbe’s new form grants her abilities both feared and revered. Her presence alone disrupts ordinary magic, as if her body blocks its flow. She moves in a way that feels unnatural, precise yet lacking fluidity. Though she cannot instantly turn others to stone, she inflicts a creeping transformation that spreads through the body, causing immense suffering. Victims must resort to extreme measures to survive, often losing parts of themselves to escape the advancing petrification.
Yet her power is not solely destructive. Thisbe can also bestow resilience upon her followers, granting them the strength and endurance of stone. Wounds mend swiftly as flesh briefly hardens and restores itself, leaving little trace behind. Through these blessings, she protects her cult, ensuring their survival in a world that once rejected them, while continuing the enduring legacy of the Gorgoa.
