Staltus Dragonbane Review
Staltus Dragonbane is a Legendary Defense Force affinity champion from the Banner Lords in Raid Shadow Legends. As a master of dragon slaying, he has brought the mysterious creatures to the Banner Lords faction as part of patch 6.0. And if that isn’t enough, he has taken the head of the fearsome Dracomorph and fashioned it into a fearsome helmet.
But Staltus is more than just a statement piece. He has dethroned Soulless as the best defense-based damage dealer in all of Teleria. While Soulless may hit slightly harder with his A3 ability, the rest of Staltus’s abilities produce more damage overall. This is driven by his passive ability which increases his damage by 5% for each debuff on an enemy target.
Staltus’s two AoE abilities are essential for arena battles and both hit extremely hard. His A3 also provides his own Increase Defense buff, meaning you don’t need to bring another champion with this ability, like Siphi or Doomscreech. Plus, his passive makes him immune to Poison, Decrease Defense, or Weaken, making him an excellent choice for battling the Dragon and Agreth, the Nether Spider.
But Staltus is not just a damage-dealer. His A2 ability has a 50% (65% if booked) chance per hit to stun, making it ideal for dealing with the Spider’s minions. His A1 ability also has a 20% Decrease Turn Meter on any target under a debuff. While his A3 debuffs are conditional on the target, Decrease Critical Damage is often used instead of the more desirable Decrease Speed.
So whether you’re looking for a big Defense-based nuke, solid crowd control for waves, or just a cool-looking dragon fire-breathing animation (yes, he summons a dragon!), Staltus Dragonbane is your guy. With his impressive array of abilities and dragon-slaying experience, he is a true champion in every sense of the word.
Staltus Dragonbane Champion Lore Synopsis
Staltus, a noble among the Banner Lords of Kaerok, has dedicated his life to a unique cause: the pursuit of the ancient Dragons’ history and the eradication of their lingering influence. Though he has never faced or slain a Dragon, his mission is not about slaying monsters, but about preserving the memory of their civilization’s failures. His obsession stems from deep research into the history of Dragons and Dragonkin, and the sins they committed during their rule over Teleria. Staltus firmly believes that the mistakes of these ancient creatures must never be repeated, and he seeks out their relics, storing them in his estate’s vaults as grim reminders of their past.
Staltus often shares the lore he has uncovered, speaking of the Dragons as immortal beings created by the gods Lumaya and Siroth during the Primordial Age. Alongside them came the Dragonkin, smaller and mortal creatures who inherited a love for order and control. Staltus recounts how this drive for domination eventually led to tyranny. Both Dragons and Dragonkin played central roles during the gods’ Great Divorce, siding with darkness and oppressing the lands they ruled. To Staltus, their legacy of despotism serves as a warning, and he dedicates himself to uncovering evidence of their oppressive empire, which once spanned across Teleria.
In his quest for these relics, Staltus has traveled far and wide, bribing officials and employing expendable mercenaries to help him uncover remnants of the Dragonkin’s dark past. From hidden machines of torture to fragments of ancient magics, his explorations have taken him to dangerous places, including the deadly Stormwind Wastes. It is rumored that during one of these perilous expeditions, Staltus made a discovery so horrifying that it cost the lives of all his companions. Whatever he found in the Wastes solidified his obsession and turned his disdain for Dragons into a fiery hatred.
Despite the passage of time and the repentance of the Dragonkin’s descendants, the Lizardmen, Staltus remains consumed by anger. Though these creatures have worked to atone for their ancestors’ sins, Staltus sees no difference between them and the ancient oppressors. His hatred drives him to slay them without mercy, using their scales and horns as trophies to adorn his armor. Ironically, the knowledge he has gained from the Dragonkin’s lore has also empowered him, and in battle, Staltus has adopted some of their rituals, invoking aspects of Dragon power to enhance his abilities.
This contradiction in Staltus — using the power of the very beings he despises — makes him both feared and admired. His relentless pursuit of Dragon relics and his ruthless actions have earned him a reputation as Dragonbane, a warrior whose obsession has turned him into something not unlike the creatures he loathes.
