Soulbond Bowyer Review

Pros

  1. She is useful for late game Arena Offense (Gold IV) for her A2 Skill Ignore Defense to take out Defensive Champions in Arena. Best equipped with Savage Set to achieve 100% Ignore Defense.

Cons

  1. She does not use her A2 and A3 skills on Auto against Spider Boss. This can be fixed by manually targeting it.
  2. She does not prioritize using A1 skill on Auto in Campaign unless she can 1 shot the enemy. This can be fixed by providing her with ample Attack, Critical Rate and Critical Damage.

Soulbond Bowyer Storyline

With the Krokhan Desert becoming a true melting pot of cultures, it is no wonder that various traditions and rituals are passed from one Barbarian tribe or clan to another, mixing with the superstition that had existed for hundreds of years or being changed to new unrecognizable forms. One such curious ritual is called Soul Binding, and it comes from the lands far beyond the Southern seas. It is dangerous and often misinterpreted by inexperienced shamans, but when properly completed it has the potential to make a single warrior much deadlier. First, however, that warrior must survive an intense concoction of narcotic herbs and poison that puts them into a trance while the shamans chant and call upon the spirits of the dead. Should they be successful, the warrior’s Ancestors are called into being and can provide him or her with blessing and protection. But disturbing the dead is a delicate matter, it is entirely possible to summon malevolent beings from beyond the grave – spectres of hatred and hunger, wishing nothing more than to devour the hapless Barbarians who dared disturb their slumber. Still, warriors who have successfully undergone Soul Binding are noted for their almost unnatural luck. Their spears and arrows find even the smallest chinks in heavy armour with contemptuous ease, their attacks cripple and wrongfoot the foe, and even their allies seem to benefit from this good fortune as long as the fight by the Soulbond’s side.

    Campa was right.

Soulbound is the ultimate Ultimate Death Knight killer.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no UDK, for you are with me.

Thanks to Ayumilove for this great site.

  2. Campa

I’m Level 62 in Gold II-IV Arena, and I respectfully disagree with a lot of the comments below.

Soulbond boyer is the only rare I would take to Level 60, and that includes Coldheart and Apothecary.

For starters, she is my anti-UDK. I NEVER ban UDK in live arena, because I know Soulbond will inflict 120k+ damage on him, like clockwork. I look for UDK teams in Classic Arena because I know I can take him out with one hit. Her A2 ignores 75% of the target’s defense, and I’ve got her in Savage and Crit Rate (Gloves – C. Dmg, Chest – Atk %, Boots – Spd), for another 25% of defense ignored. That means she ignores 100% of the target’s defense on a 3 turn cooldown. UDK is usually built with max defensive stats and she ignores all of it. One hit kills EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

She is also the key to my Fire Knight Level 20 Team. The A2 is nice here, and she inflicts the most damage on my Team, but the key element here is the A3. The A3 decreases the turn meter by 100%, which is so useful on Fire Knight. Use the A3 right when the Fire Knight is about to turn his shield back around, and his Turn Meter goes back to zero, allowing you to inflict damage until his turn meter goes back up. You’ll need to build her with accuracy substats, or have her with an accuracy banner, but she can crush Fire Knight 20. You can also go to the Great Hall and invest in Accuracy in the Fire Knight Area bonuses to increase the chance of her A3 proc.

The Spirit affinity is also advantageous against UDK and Fire Knight 20 as they are both Force affinity.

She’s almost never banned in Arena since she’s a rare and requires rare tomes to book which are easier to get than Epic or Legendary tomes. You’ll love her in Faction Wars and in Rare/Spirit secret rooms.

In sum, she’s S tier on my account for sure. I was hesitant to take her to 60 but I’m so glad I did. And I haven’t even given her all her masteries yet, she only has level 4 masteries. I wouldn’t be surprised if she inflicts 200k plus damage on UDK once she gets helmsmasher.

  3. deda

This girl is not Coldheart and she is not crazy good, and she is not end game champ but if you are new player who just pulled her i say build her and max that lady 6* she can put some nice numbers on enemies. You will hate her A1 soo much but with some decent gear (Savage) and after lvl 55 you will fall in love with that girl, give her some hp% def% love in substats and she is your queen 😀

  4. Bjarkmundur

Yeah seems like her AI has been improved, and she really comes to life when you put her in a Def% chest and full masteries. Before that she was not working for me at all.

  5. Bjarkmundur

I’m getting some mixxed messages about this champ. What is she? Is she a nuker who ignores defense? Is she a controller in a stun set and high accuracy? I feel like if I build her as control I really lose out on the increased crit chance and ignore defense, and if I ignore accuracy I feel like I’m losing out on a stun set and that insane turn meter depletion. Is there a world where you actually have two Bowyers, one for Arena and one for Spider?

Maybe I’ll build her for damage until I get the books to make her A2 cooldown go down?

  6. iSimpforArbiter

Shouldn’t she be rated higher for Spider, full TM depletion for the boss and multi attack to deal with spiderlings; her AI has been improved

  7. Ayumilove Post author

@Herc Smash: Lore of Steel does not improve the stats on Destroy Artifact Set. Only artifact sets that provides basic stats such as Life Set, Offense Set, Speed Set, Critical Rate Set, Critical Damage Set, Perception Set, Immortal Set, Resilience Set will benefit from this mastery!

  8. Herc Smash

I am using Destroy Gear for Scarab King with SB. Does the Support mastery “Lore of Steel” improve Destroy Gear and if so by how much? Great job with this website by AL and by all the visitors.

  9. DimT

Excellent champion for the Spirit Rare Secret Room on DT hard and also the attack rares one. Stun set works wonders on her and her A2 can be the main source of damage on controlled champions. Especially good synergy with Gnarlhorn and mother superior for control on the Rare Spirit SR.

  10. DrakkenBlue

I’m fairly new at Raid, but got lucky with some champions that work really well on Fire Knight (by far my best dungeon). Soulbond Bowyer is a core member of that team (along with Coldheart and Alure) and Sanguinia. Soulbond one gets one hit on the Fire Knight’s shield with her A1, but the others get 4, 3, and 4. Then the turn meter team kicks in and it’s over.

Soulbond is my biggest damage dealer on the run, and also key in clearing the waves before the Knight. Her A3 comes in handy as a back-up in case the Knight resists a couple of Alure’s TM reductions.

  11. Arcarent

good new, her AI is now use A3 on spider when it got turn meter bar 70% full (or 50%) , confirm from my 20 run .

  12. Cyr

    @Tad

She’s great at fireknight because of chance to completely remove his turn meter. If you’re running a team that prevents him from ever putting his shield back up, she’s great.

  13. kekw

They should let us program the AI of our champs for each battle, it would change completely the game for better
AI makes so many good champs trash, just like this one

  14. Tad

Does no one use her for Fire Knight? She has 5* for FK but no one says anything about it in comments.

  15. crhis

hopefully plarium will fix her AI
apparently they are going to fix some champs in early 2021
this would male SB super strong for spider

  16. DecoY drama

Or when auto you can just tap on spider and SB will use her a2 and a3 also. Can not be left tho has to be repeated for every run unfortunately.

  17. Nick Whelan

@Ayumilove Great site! Is it possible to have your comment on the nurfed version please. Is she still a viable Rare? If so, what gear would you see her best in and what scenarios would she do well in.
I know there are lots of other people commenting on other sites, however I really value your opinion above others 😉

  18. Bigjimknickers

Would she be any good in a stun set?

  19. Bungus

    Hi Ayumi,
Thanks for the advice but you listed vrask twice what would you swap out?
    Thanks

  20. Ayumilove Post author

@Bungus: I personally used Soulbond Bowyer when I need someone to delay the opponent nuker or when I do not have a good high-single damage nuker against Force Champions (e.g. Mountain King, Rhazin Scarhide). She is not that great as a Arena Defense since her AI Battle Logic sometimes will not use her A3 and A2, but focus on using A1 when there are many enemies alive. For Classic Arena and Tag Team Arena, I would use the following (Warmaiden, Kael, Apothecary, Elhain = Nuke Team) (Bellower, Vrask, Tayrel, Relickeeper = Nuke Team) (Vrask, Zelotah, Doompriest, Lightsworn = Tank Team)

  21. Ayumilove Post author

@Begone!: You will need a decent amount of Accuracy to allow those effects such as Turn Meter Reduction to work. Her A3 allows Arena Offense players to strategically delay opponent from performing their special skills such as Mountain King, Arbiter, Duchess Lilitu, Krisk the Ageless and so forth. The higher the level you go (e.g. Arena Gold IV, Dungeons 20), the more Accuracy you need to boost up for her skills to work.

  22. Ayumilove Post author

@Maitre Change: If you opt for Savage Set, then you will need pair her with a good healer or tanker. Otherwise she will be too squishy (die too easily if she could not quickly get heal or low health/defense). I experimented with few different sets and found that Lifesteal Set suits Soulbond Bowyer better. Having a Speed Dungeon team with focusing on all nuke champions significantly speeds up the dungeon run.

  23. Ayumilove Post author

@WillOoOWisps: Having a higher rarity champion will have higher expectation of the champion. If you would take example of a Legendary who can perform similar to Sister Militant (A1 AoE Attack) but the rest of skills aren’t great, that champion will be rated lower because other champions can do better using way less resources (ascencion potions, skill tomes, etc). This same applies to Soulbond Bowyer. Sister Militant is an Uncommon Champion who is mainly used for early-mid game, whereas Soulbond Bowyer can be used for early-mid-late game. I have tested her at Level 60 in Fire Knight Dungeon Stage 20 under 1 minute 30 seconds (pairing with other Epic/Rare champions). However, she performed not that great with Spider 20 because she does not use her A3 skill when there are many enemies alive. Spider 20 spiderlings cannot be killed in 1 hit as they have massive amount of HP. Therefore, her role in Spider now changes to be a Turn Meter manipulator. To stop the Spider boss from taking a turn.

  24. HetralGER

    @Begone!
“but her so-called best shot Soulbound shot *never* worked. Ever.” – I bet you missed to push her ACC. To deplete a targets turn meter means the same as you would put a debuff on them. For both you need a high ACC – 200+ is preferable. My Coldheart need this too for the heartseeker or the turn meter manipulation would be resisted.

  25. Bungus

What team comps would you recommend for tag team arena, I have the following maxed out: Robar, lightsworn, doompriest, tayrel, relickeeper, vrask, hordin, zelotah, warmaiden, kael, athel, apothecary, bellower, elhain & soulbond bowyer

  26. Destroyer39

    @Toast
These base stats are achievable through max leveling, including ascending, leveling, and ranking, Soulbound Bowyer

  27. Begone!

Not impressed with Soulbound Bowyer. Have her 5* fully ascended (not booked, mind you), but her so-called best shot Soulbound shot *never* worked. Ever. Does not really motivate me to invest more into her.

  28. Maitre Chang

If equipped with Savage set, would Helmsmasher be a good option to add 20% dmg?

  29. WillOoOWisps

@Ayumilove: Why does Sister Militant have a 4 star rating on Spider when Soulbound Boywer only has a 3 star? If Bower is constantly using her A1 that means she is doing the same thing as Sister Militant.

Boywer with the higher health/attack/def/crit dmg should mean her rating on Spider should be the same if not 1 star higher. Is there something I am missing?

  30. Toast

Why does my bowyer have 289 base attack and 213 base defense XD

  31. Ayumilove Post author

@Dizn3y: I have tested Soulbond Bowyer at Level 60 fully ascended. Reason I have rated her 4 Star for Campaign is because she does not use her A1 on Campaign Brutal to 1 shot kill the enemies (30K Damage), but prioritizes her A2 (60K Damage) and A3 (50K Damage). Therefore, the run was not up to my expectation, even with 200 Speed gear on. If her AI is fixed to use her A1 constantly, then I’ll bump her Campaign rating to 5 star. For the Spider, she constantly uses her A1 instead of using her A2 and A3 skill on the boss, unless you manually target the boss. I have tested her in Spider 20 dungeon. If the developers fixes her AI to use her powerful A2 and A3 on the boss, I’ll rate her to 5 star.

  32. Dizn3y

Love the sight, really helpful, would probably suggest a 5* on Campaign and Spiders, especially with a stun set, that A1 with 100% is going to just murder waved and spiders every turn and the turn meter manip on the A3 is perfect for the spider. Deffinately worth rethinking @Ayumilove <3

  33. Doro626

Hello Ayumi. Not trying to create additional work for you, but I have a question about champions used in multiple fusions. Maybe a number following the most present fusion to indicate others (with link). Ive noticed certain champions, for whatever reason, plarium seems to use more and those are ones that people may want to hold a few copies of.

  34. Dave Astle

@Scarslett: Depends where you want to use her, and where you’re at in the game. With Great Hall bonuses and gear, you should be able to get her well over 200 accuracy without much difficulty, and the additional accuracy you get from going support may not be worth it when there isn’t that much in the tree that helps her, since she doesn’t have buffs or debuffs. Defense can help keep her alive and do a lot of additional damage through counterattack.

  35. Scarslett

Why not go down the support tree for the acc buff skill for using her on spider. It seems you would gain you 46 acc alone from the first 3 skills. Am I missing something about her that the defense tree is better?

  36. Ron

and also forgot to mention she has potential to be one of the better farmers in the game if geared properly..for a rare its awfully difficult to acquire a champion with her abilities of AOE as well as %100 turn meter reduction..she’s sorta like a mini Coldheart, obviously without the massive Heartseeker Dmg, but her AOE really helps with waves as well..”IF” u have the books she’s %100 worth leveling up

  37. Ron

leveled her up and I think alot of people are sleeping on her..thought I was crazy but now I’m seeing alot of youtubers like HellHades and others use her to great effect in FN-20..put a stun set on her to help with the waves and her attk of fully depleting the turn meter is EXACTLY what u want for FN..u keep his turn meter depleted and u keep his shield down..its that simple..same with spiders..she takes way too many books but she’s %100 perfect for Spider and FN all the way thru

  38. Ayumilove Post author

@matthias: OFfense Set is much more readily available by farming through Campaign. It would be difficult for early-mid game players to farm these items from Dungeons since its randomize unless you have lots of energy to spend as a P2W player or you already reach the end-game and you just want to increase the variety of equipment you have for your champions. Attack Role champion inflicts a ton more damage when they are geared with Attack base stats. If you are not getting that result, either the champions you geared lacks the amount of ATK stats to provide these results or the set of items equipped on the champion isn’t optimized.

  39. matthias

Why offensive set on all these characters?

Savage has tons more damage, crit damage alike.

Characters who scale from attack benefit by far not as good from attack as people who scale from defense or hp, logically

  40. Ryan

Why is she rated lower than Zephyr Sniper for Spider?

  41. True

If i would rate her (had bit more testing with her)
    4 for campaign
4 for both offence and defence arena
    1 for CB
4 for Faction (i don’t have that many barbarians so)
3.5 for minotaur (she can help there but not as main farm unit)
5 for spider (her usage of aoe is very nice)
3 for fire knight (good for first 2 rounds but falls of in 3rd)
4 for dragon (usable for all rounds and is not that much of dead weight in final wave)
3 for ice golem (yes she is good rounds 1 and 2 but in round 3 her aoe might bring trouble)

Magic keep is 2 while other keep’s are 3

For rare champ she has utility for usage but there are multiple other champs who can do similar thing.

Best thing for her is that you need only 75% crit so that kind of adds more utility to other area’s for this champion.

Negative is that 16 book cost :/

  42. Dude

Looks like she is the best substitute for Zephyr Sniper for Spiders. 16 Rare tomes to fully booked is kinda meh sadly.

  43. True

She is very useful and that she is rare it makes her even better in my eye’s. Spider no problem,

As campaign farmer she is very solid.

Fire knight she is good for first 2 rounds but in round 3 she falls back badly.

Ice golem she can be 50/50 but as she damages majority time all targets so it might give some trouble in round 3

In keeps she has problems only in magic and reason for its simple (type weakness)

Minotaur she can be useful but so far as helpful farmer its 40/60

In dragon she is very useful in rounds 1 and 2 and even in round 3 she pulls her weight nicely

In arena she can be useful in both defense and offence but ofc that depends on team setup

only problem what i have with her is that she needs 16 books to max even if they are rare books.

  44. devils advocate

who does these ratings? shes ridiculously good in spiders, sick good in factions wars, will be insane in campaign (as soon as they will fix her, shes not prioritising skill 1, but using 2-3) she does prioritise her S1 in faction wars.

  45. CHITS

How is this chick not awesome for spider?

  46. Corpse Maker

The skills description is all wrong
