Rotos the Lost Groom Reference

Rotos the Lost Groom Dungeon Solo Build

Below is a reference of the artifacts equipped on Rotos the Lost Groom optimized to solo Ice Golem and Dragon’s Lair Dungeon. Rotos the Lost Groom is equipped with Lifesteal Set to enable him to recover his health during battle. These artifacts prioritize a high amount of SPD and RESIST along with a decent amount of ATK, C.RATE, C.DMG, and DEF. Resist stat plays a major role here to resist any debuffs applied by the enemy (e.g. Stun/Freeze/Sleep), which prevents him from taking his turn to recover his health. Speed stat is also crucial as it enables him to perform multiple turns of an enemy 1 turn to recover and defeat the enemies quickly. With this equipment and mastery setup, it allows him to solo Klyssus (Ice Golem Boss) and Hellgazor (Dragon’s Lair Boss) with 4 fodders (food champions) to optimize your energy expenditure in ranking up food and gaining useful artifacts simultaneously. This is beneficial for players racking up points for Dungeon Divers Event and Champion Training Event/Tournament. Important Note: 300 Resist is required to consistently resist debuffs and negative instant effects for Dungeon Stage 20. 220+ Speed is required to enable the champion to take 2 turns of the enemy 1 turn in Dungeon Stage 20. 100% Critical Rate is required to consistently inflict maximum Critical Damage to quickly heal his health.

Rotos the Lost Groom Arena Nuke Build

Below is a reference of the artifacts equipped on Rotos the Lost Groom optimized for high single-target nuke damage against tanky champions who have high defense and HP. Rotos the Lost Groom is equipped with a Relentless Set to synergize with his A1 skill that grants Extra Turns. Although Relentless Set has been nerfed in a way where it will not proc Extra Turn when the skill triggers Extra Turn, it’s still a valuable artifact that enables a champion to take multiple turns within its own turn to refresh the skill cooldown quickly and gives him the opportunity to clear enemies before they could take their turn. Alternatively, you can use Savage Set along with Cruel Set to increase the ignore defense capabilities on Rotos. These artifacts prioritize high ATK%, C.RATE, C.DMG, and SPD stats. With Ignore Defense to handle high defense champion and high attack to tackle high HP champion, this makes Rotos the Lost Groom the perfect candidate against tanky champion found in Arena, Doom Tower, and Faction Wars.

Rotos the Lost Groom Storyline

There is another tale of love well known in Kaerok and Arnoc, but one much darker than Minaya’s and Khoronar’s adventures. It starts with a bold young nobleman, whose family had lost everything but their title; their lands, their estates, their wealth – all had been seized to repay debts accumulated over generations of careless debauchery. This left Rotos with little to his name except for his pride and his skill with the rapier. Though that barely stopped the young man from spending his youth dueling, drinking, and racking up new debts. It was only when the danger of assassins sent by the usurers became real that he finally realized it was time to disappear, at least for a time.

Although his talents were limited and so were the fields where Rotos could employ them in full, he had chosen a career many would not have considered – that of a pirate. With what little silver was left in his purse and his faithful rapier at his side, Rotos sought out the crew of a pirate ship and made his bid to join. He spent the next decade sailing the seas and living the life of high adventure, where skill, audacious bravery, and a dash of good fortune were the only things one could rely on. Though he led many brazen raids upon attaining his own captainship and grew rich on plunder, Rotos remained a gentleman of good repute first and foremost. He was never bloodthirsty and never killed without need, nor allowed his crew any excesses.

On occasion, he pursued and fought less scrupulous corsairs who ‘gave the profession a bad name’ as Rotos himself claimed. It was one such encounter that allowed the bold Captain to claim his most prized treasure. But it was neither silver nor gems nor even an enchanted weapon of days long past that captivated Rotos’ heart. It was a woman by the name of Siphi, hailing from faraway southern islands, whom Rotos freed from captivity. She was beautiful and fierce, and while she was not trained as a warrior, Siphi seized the opportunity during the boarding battle and struck down her captors right in front of dumbfounded Rotos. If there was ever love at first sight, he told his crew later, it would have to be the sight of an angry Southerner woman knocking a brute twice her size out with a candleholder.

While some scoundrels may have taken advantage of the situation, Rotos was determined to court and woo his beautiful rescuee the old-fashioned way. Siphi met his advances with cold derision at first, then with amusement, but Rotos’ charms were as true as was his determination. After weeks of back-and-forth, she finally relented and showed interest, and this was but a spark that lit the flames of passion. Over the next several months Siphi and Rotos spent nearly every waking hour together and grew to truly appreciate one another. She became his confidant, his voice of reason, and Rotos remained the brazen risk-taker with a contagious lust for adventure and dramatic flair that would put High Elves to shame. As their love blossomed, Rotos finally realized that the time to return home was upon him.

With the riches he gained in the past decade, he managed to pay off all of his debts, and still own enough to ensure he and Siphi would live in luxury – provided the silver was spent wisely to set his ancestral household up once more. Unfortunately, Mayhew Pouillac – the wealthiest money-lender in Arnoc at the time – regarded the damage his reputation sustained when Rotos fled to be far greater than any payment could make up for. He pretended otherwise, however, and accepted Rotos and his then-bride like guests of honour.

For a hefty interest on top of the original debt and penalties, Pouillac ‘forgave’ Rotos and even offered assistance in rebuilding his family estate. But on the day of Rotos’ and Siphi’s wedding, the vengeful usurer finally enacted his cruel plan. Hired thugs barged into the church where the ceremony was taking place. They carried bared weapons which ignored all tradition and Lumayan law and slaughtered unarmed guests like cattle. Although Rotos’ frenzied last stand cost more than a dozen mercenaries their lives, he had no chance against so many on his own.

Crucified against the wall with spears, he could only watch in desperation as brutish hirelings murdered Siphi moments before his heart stopped beating. The last thing he heard was Siphi cursing the treacherous wretches in her native tongue and promising vengeance from beyond the grave. With their bloody work done, Pouillac’s mercenaries departed, leaving the bodies of the slain where they had fallen. It was fortunate that the local townsfolk discovered the slaughter and ensured proper burial rites were upheld, but of the murderers, there was no sign. Days passed, the Sheriff charged with overseeing that province found no leads and made little effort to seek justice on behalf of a man who was a known pirate, and, meanwhile, ominous rumours spread through the land.

People said that the flowers left on the graves of the newlyweds all withered within a night. All save for two roses, which turned an unnatural and eerie blue – unlike any of the flowers that grew in those parts. Others spoke of loud weeping and wailing, of the sound of nails raking the wood of the coffins coming from below ground. Of strange, mist-like figures appearing in the church. It did not take the locals long to declare the place cursed and abandon it altogether.

But the echoes of this slaughter reached as far as Arnoc itself, and vengeance promised by Siphi came to fruition before her murderers even had a chance to celebrate their success. One by one, the mercenaries involved in the attack died under mysterious circumstances. They always disappeared in the dead of night, only to be found by morning with their faces pale and twisted with fear, their bodies bled dry. No matter what they did, no matter what gods they prayed to, within a fortnight they died to a man. News of the murders reached Pouillac and sent him scrambling. Had Rotos somehow survived the attack? Did his mercenaries lie? There were no answers to these questions, and the terrified usurer barricaded himself in his estate, doubled the guard, and waited for the storm to pass. None of that availed him…

One night, blood-chilling screams shattered the silence over Pouillac’s estate. So terrifying they were, that the citizens who lived nearby barred their doors and windows, unwilling to risk whatever monsters stalked their streets. It was only in the morning they dared to enter the usurer’s grand manor. What they found inside was shocking – bodies heaped across the floors, all with the same fearful look frozen on their faces.

Not a single soul survived, no guard, no servant, they had all perished during the night. And as for Pouillac himself, he was found in his chambers, curled up and gripping himself so tightly it took the coroners considerable effort to move his hands from his face and reveal the look of primal terror that must have stopped the usurer’s heart in his final moments. No trace of the murderers was ever found, but Old Arnault, a crippled half-mad drunk of some renown in the city, swore on Lumaya’s name that he saw two ghostly figures in the estate’s courtyard that night. One a man in the trappings of a nobleman, one – a woman dressed in strange finery of foreign make. Who or even what they were, he could not say. Only that the strangers left the estate soon after screaming stopped, then faded from sight, never to be seen in Arnoc again.

Rotos the Lost Groom Review

Rotos the Lost Groom is a Legendary Attack Magic affinity champion from Undead Hordes faction in Raid Shadow Legends. Rotos was introduced in Patch 1.13 on February 14th 2020 as part of the classic Champion Fusion Event, which coincide with Valentine’s Day!

Rotos found his partner Siphi the Lost Bride during this special event! Pairing them together in battle makes them one the most powerful combo champion in the game especially for Arena! Rotos the Lost Groom is renowned for his Spurn Oblivion passive skill that grants him an Extra Turn whenever his HP drops by 50% of his MAX HP. This allows him to counter enemies and crushing them instantly with Fated Destruction skill that inflicts high amount of damage to a single-target while ignoring their defenses! If this skill successfully kills an enemy, he gains an Extra Turn to go for another round of killing spree! Rotos default attacking skill Terror Scourge has a chance of granting him an Extra Turn and applying Decrease Defense on enemy. With all of these skills synergized together, it makes him one of the most fearful champion to deal with as he is unpredictable with his Extra Turns as he can cycle through his ultimate skill quickly to nuke each target 1 by 1 very quickly.

Rotos the Lost Groom has been nerfed through a few game patches to rebalance him as he is too OP (Over Powered). However, he is still viable in most areas of the game even with the recent nerf. To make a killer Rotos, heed these tips: Crit rate at 100%, Crit damage high, and HP% strong. With Rotos, you get a sweet passive that lets him take a hit and lose no more than half his health. Plus, his A2 attack drains HP, building up his already impressive HP pool. And let me tell you, this champion’s kit is one of the most fascinating in all of Raid: Shadow Legends.

just a heads up you dont want ATK on banner you want HP. Since rotos HP is so low and his abilities scale with HP too, you never want to go ATK. Both ring and banner should be HP no matter what, always remember than when building rotos!

  2. Ainan

I think the 1* rating for Nether spider is too low.
Using the dungeon solo build above, my Rotos often ends up soloing Hard 50.
While I don’t think he is god tier for this dungeon, he should have a higher rating than 1*

Similar for Dreadhorn, the recent change to Vitality Plunder means he is viable due to reducing the Max HP.
Again, not god tier but not 1* either

  3. Ayumilove Post author

@4shock: Rotos is still viable for farming other dungeons such as Dragon’s Lair Stage 20 with 4 fodders to save energy while racking up experience points.

  4. Ayumilove Post author

@Edrana87: I have updated Rotos rating for Frost Spider from 2 to 5 star with his ability to Block Revive the boss without HP Burn debuff on it. Thanks!

  5. Edrana87

Why only 2 star in Frost Spider?
A rotos with decent DEF in Lifesteal can easily solo even Hard 40 Frost Spider. He always goes back to max HP, and will eventually finish with block revive.

  6. Tad K

The list of skills and abilities on the main page is missing “Instant: ingnore unkillable”

  7. 4shock

Oh no. I just pulled Rotos, was really happy until I read about his nerf. So he is only useful in Ice Golem now? What a shame. I never do that dungeon. Can’t imagine using him for clan boss: Alll he brings is defence down and not even weaken. I got Royal Guard in same 10pull so will build him for dragon.

  8. Ayumilove Post author

@Ryan: Rotos skill “Spurn Oblivion” triggers based on either of these conditions. The first condition is if Rotos is fighting against a Boss, this passive skill reduces the damage inflicted by the Boss by 15% but does not grant him Extra Turn. The second condition is if Rotos is fighting against regular enemies (non-boss champions), and if that enemy deals more than 50% of his MAX HP (with or without shield), it will trigger his passive skill.

  9. Ayumilove Post author

@Edran87: Rotos skill “Vitality Plunder” increases his MAX HP based on the HP gained from his enemies. It’s not affected by equipment/artifact stats. The equipment stats only affects Rotos base stats and not during battle.

  10. Edrana87

    Hi!
I have a question about how Vitality plunder works. Does it increase its base HP stat, or its current max HP? (The point is, are HP% stats affecting the extra HP?)
    Thanks!

  11. Ryan

Is it just me or does Spurn Oblivion not seem to work properly? Whenever the damage reduction occurs instead of granting an extra turn, it seems to just immediately fill his turn meter to full, then reduces his turn meter back to zero after he attacks. Am I misreading this or is this how it is intended?

  12. HAEL

Wow such a detailed page! I came here after your comment under the youtube video for the pve rotos. Thank you for showing the substat on the gear! its soo useful to appreciate what is required on the gear!
And thank you for just being my go to reference tool in my raid experience <3

@Celtv1s: Scyl of the Drakes is an excellent champion that is worth the Legendary Skill Tomes investment. She helps in speeding up game progression for Dungeons, Faction Wars and Doom Tower Floors and best for Nether Spider Boss. Rotos the Lost Groom is still viable for end-game as he can be used to solo farm Dragon 20 and Ice Golem 20 with 4 fodder champions. I would recommend building up Scyl of the Drake first if you are still in early-mid game, then build Rotos the Lost Groom to help optimize your energy spent in farming gears in dungeon while ranking up champions at the same time! Once your dungeon champion setup are solid, I would recommend you to build Mortu-Macaab as he is great against tanky champions and AoE attack champions. Ignatius is also another great champion who can solo Frost Spider in Doom Tower and also can help you in Spider’s Den 20 farming accessories.

  14. Teacup

    @Celtv1s
Mortu Macaab if you build him right, he can be a monster in Arena, Also Rae if you want her in Arena, get her lots of atk and ACC. Scyl is useful in the doom tower.

  15. Celtv1s

I saved three legendary books over time and wonder if I should spend them on Rotos or another legendary I have: Wurlim, Scyl of drakes, Elenaril, Rae, Mortu-Macaab, Astralith, Lugan, Ignatius, Visix or Crypt-King Graal.
Aim is to have a good champion/good team for arena offense, because I recognize my current arena offense team (Astralith, Rotos, Kael & Elenaril) is not very well suited for this.

  16. Adampcman

@Teacup Agreed. The AOE skill would fix the issue of 60k hp requirement to block revive. I just hope Plarium hears their players.

  17. Teacup

Need everyone to open a ticket in game to get Plarium to fix Rotos, he is basically useless in high tier arena with reduced atk and 60k hp drain requirement and low def, low hp, and NO AOE atk skil. If they fuked him that bad, at least make his hp drain skill AOE to make up for the nerf.

  18. Teacup

Hopefully Plarium will unfk Rotos, really like this champ in Arena, I replaced him with Foli now, 1 hit wiped out enemy team, even more powerful than Rotos. The best single attacker is Tuvold, he is unstoppable in Arena, next is Inithwe Bloodtwin, Rotos is not even on the list now.

  19. Ayumilove Post author

@Teacup: Yes, Plarium did not balanced Rotos the Lost Groom correctly, which makes him not that viable for most Arena Gold I~IV battle since he cannot Block Revive unless he gets 60K HP from his A2 skill Vitality Plunder. In addition, his damage was reduced significantly with the reasoning that Plarium has calculated his damage output incorrectly. Rotos is now mostly used against team that consist of double reviver champions and in Ice Golem to Block Revive the minions.

  20. Teacup

Fated Destruction [ATK][HP] (Cooldown: 4 turns)
Attacks 1 enemy. Will ignore 60% of the target’s DEF. Will also ignore [Unkillable] and [Block Damage] buffs. Enemies killed by this skill cannot be revived if this Champion has gained maximum amount of HP from the Vitality Plunder skill. Grants an Extra Turn if this skill kills an enemy.
Note: Block Revive will not occur unless Rotos has gained a total of 60K HP from Vitality Plunder, which will take at least 3 hits against a 100K HP enemy!

His atk got nerfed badly, probably does about 60% less damage than before, if you try him in Arena, he hits like a pu s s y, can’t even break the shield, I think Plarium should not nerf his block revive skill, since he needs to hit the same target few times to kill.

  21. Ayumilove Post author

@Teacup: I agree. Ma’Shalled is way overpowered with too much buff on himself and fearing everyone. Plarium does not know how to balance champions consistently 🙁

  22. Teacup

proven: Rotos is garbage after the nerf, Ma’Shalled is the one that needs to be nerfed!

  23. MKHASA

    Lovely typo. Beef=nerf

  24. MKHASA

Just pulled Rotos yesterday. With the beef updates should I set him up to use in Clan Boss instead of Arena? Which is more worth my time/resources?

  25. Teacup

@Besokster Rotos will be long dead before he can use the BLOCK revive skill, you need 60000 HP drain, to do that you need about 4 turns, in high tier Arena, usually game over in 2-3 turns.

  26. Besokster

He can still block revive, it appears on my Rotos that he just needs to fill his hp meter first, at 60,000.

  27. Afox

    Updated rankings and tier?

  28. Teacup

nerf coming, with no block revive, Rotos is useless.

  29. Sean

Does vitality plunder maintain last hp when revived or does it reset?

  30. DivaCup

    Why is plarium diminishing Rotos?

  31. Mk17

@Shaww The hardest raw hitting champs on clan boss are Fenax and Dervish

  32. Revanur

How much value does Rhotos gain from booking him?

  33. Shaaw

@Ledriel: My Rotos still gets 8-11m on NM CB and 6-8m on UNM CB… He’s almost as good damage as my Dracomorph. I think he is still 5 star in CB because he just dishes out so much raw damage.

  34. Nathan

Just found out that Rotos can proc an extra turn when he’s used for an ally attack

  35. Ledriel

Hey, regarding Rotos on CB I was also stating that he deserves 5*, but now he actually got nerfed two times.
1rst Relentless set nerf and 2nd his CA nerf (https://plarium.com/forum/en/raid-shadow-legends/672_release-notes/195026_rotos-the-lost-groom/)
I saw my CB damage drastically falling since I was using him in CB with LB and SC.
I am not sure if he still deserves the 5*.
(A third nerf to his damage reduction is coming on 1.15 btw)

Why they nerf his PVE instead of PVP? Only Plarium knows why.

  36. Aaron

Ayumilove. Sorry for my spelling in previous message. Had a few too many cans ha.
Yeah groom 5 star well deserved. Hes great.

  37. Ayumilove Post author

@Aaron: I have updated Rotos the Lost Groom rating for Clan Boss from 4 to 5 star after testing him in a Speed Team Clan Boss. I used Relentless Set and Speed Set on him, and he dealt approximately 12~13M damage in Clan Boss.

  38. Aaron

The griom is a colussus. Arena dungeouns and clan boss a colussos. How he is only rated 4 star for clan boss is beyond me????? He needs speed crit rate an acc.. if u can get crit dsmage even better.. dont worry about attack ho or defence.
I git rhazin.. hes nowhere close to groom vs clan boss. No comparison..

  39. Ayumilove Post author

@enginiel2014: Retaliation Set and Avenging Set will not proc special effect on the skills such as Extra Turn but not including the following instant effects (e.g. Increase Turn Meter of self/allies, Remove debuff) or debuff (Crowd-Control debuffs = Stun / Freeze / Sleep)

  40. enginiel2014

hey guys, can i use avenging set on this guy so whenever he counters, there is a chance for his a1 to proc an extra turn?

  41. murphY47

as of the recent updates v1.14, Relentless Set no longer grant multiple Extra Turns at the same time if the wearer also got an Extra Turn through other means (their skills or buff from their allies); so please update Rotos’ equipment guide (as well as other champions who benefit from this trait previously)

  42. Micks

Does he need acc to activate his A2 life steal?

  43. NickyFrost

Scrolling through the Platinum Tier Rankings, all but 3 teams (top 100 is all I counted) have one or more Rotos.
Though the composition isn’t wildly varied, out of all the champions in the Raid selection, the Platinum Tier area teams primarily consist of the same champions.

  44. Ledriel

@Overlordy For arena FE or Helmsmasher, no question. For dungeons and CB, I would say Warmaster but with some room for doubt. When his crit does 150k with 200% crit damage, his normal hit would do 50k. Which means 20% more crit damage would be around 10k which for most cases less than warmaster’s half the tick. Of course, these numbers may greatly vary depending on your gear (total att and hp)

Hey @Ayumilove, two things to consider:

    1) Regarding spider, sometimes his massive extra turns amount could result to 30-40% of the spiders health. Due to his lack of turn-meter-manipulation, he is far from the other top tiers but I think this + his def down is enough to get him to 3*

    2) ‘Methodical’ mastery is also awesome for the dungeons, especially when he is wearing relentless set. Do you find ‘Cycle of Revenge’ better in his case?

  45. Overlordy

Warmaster or Flawless Executioner? Which one is better for Rotos?

@Robin HP doesn’t scale well regarding his damage. In addition, his base health is extremely poor. 60.000 HP from his a2 sure drastically increase his damage but with that base HP pool, HP% won’t make a difference. You don’t have to worry about HP gear at all, focus in everything else.

@Dominic The reason I was going to write the same is because Ithos is also rated as 5 star at CB. I am pretty sure this guy should be 1 star higher than Ithos.

  47. Dominic

    …sorry I ment why only 4 stars

  48. Dominic

why only 3 stars in Clan boss. He is my best damage dealer even in Nightmare in a team with Apothecary, Grizzled Jar, Occult Brawler and Ultimate Galek (all maxed masteries)

  49. Robin

    Why not stack HP%?!

  50. Voy

Wouldn’t you stack HP%? He scales with both ATK and HP and HP buffs his EHP.

@Lokicoon: Thanks! I have updated Rotos the Lost Groom equipment section for the Savage Set.

  52. Lokicoon

    Correct,pls: Savage is 4-pieces set

  53. Robin

The most op hero ever, its not even funny

  54. Charel

Wish I’d known that before I wasted 3m silver leveling a C.DMG chest plate

  55. [A7X]

    nope sorry, my bad

  56. [A7X]

Also recommended sets have typo too, 2 savage set 1 speed set should be 1 savage 1 speed. (savage set 4 piece set)

  57. Ayumilove Post author

@Jayden: It’s a typo. I have corrected the equipment stat guide.

  58. Ayumilove Post author

@Burak Kaba: I have corrected Rotos the Lost Groom equipment chestpiece from C.DMG to ATK%

And for intents and purposes, mine was just that, a comment, a different point of view, not starting some school grade argument. So in as much as I see no point in being in one, soon as the owner sees my comments, please remove all statements of mine from this champ. That is much easier then starting a back and forth useless argument over a game. This champ is a crowd favorite at the moment so no point in making controversial statements

  60. Toadameat

I started my comment by saying to each their own. If that’s how you view him, by all means. Go ahead

  61. The D Man

Toad clearly doesnt know what he’s talking about. Rotos is a game changing counter to literally every annoying Arena champ like Roshcard, Tormin, Skullcrown, etc.

  62. Samuel Shane Winter

Hi um You cant get crt dmg chest piece

  63. Toadameat

To each their own, so far in arena, I’d call him meh. Hes not bad, but he requires to much support to be of any use. If your going to use him, put him on a team full of rezzer, or combine him with like a tormin and hegemon, you also better make sure his resist is sky rocketed. One speed set will get him killed unless your entire team is based on keeping him alive. Not saying he cant be useful, but without extremely good support and high resist, all you have to do is stun him then any glass cannon can wipe him from the board without him ever getting to make a single shot.. do NOT just willy nilly put him in thinking he is going to be OP, cause he ain’t. His skill only allows 50% of his MAX hp to be taken in a single attack, and since his base hp is basically garbage, it’s a rather simple solution to stun/freeze/sleep him with first attack, then someone such as skullcrown comes in second and eliminates him from field. Trundra and SC work beautifully as a combo for that. And if your facing off against a groom that is only using 1 speed set, then his base speed of 90 ( again, very low) , works even more to your advantage of making sure this champ is dead long before he gets to use any skills that matter. Make sure the synergy of your team works to his advantage or you will be sorely disappointed in him

  64. Burak Kaba

    main stat crit damage chestpiece?

  65. Jayden

Is C. Damage chest plate available somewhere or is that a typo?

  66. Drea

How does his A2 work exactly against bosses. Does he get 15.000 HP per use up to 60.000 or just 15.000 once?

It is not clear for me :/

  67. Mad Mare

    Ack.
Could we have a list of NON-Platinum Tier gear to put on this guy? I don’t have, and have no way of getting (currently) a chest plate with c. dam as the primary XD
