Praeva The Slitherer Champion Lore Synopsis
In the ancient Mistwood, Praeva, the Firstborn, was a healer known for her unmatched kindness and devotion. She offered aid to anyone in need, no matter their allegiance during the Great Divorce, a conflict between Lumaya and Siroth. While she tried to remain neutral, visitors from Siroth’s side slowly filled her mind with sorrowful stories and distorted truths. They claimed Lumaya’s decision to end the sacred Dances would lead to the world’s decline. Praeva, longing to preserve vitality and growth, was persuaded to turn against Lumaya.
Guided by this belief, Praeva began to harm Lumaya’s followers under the pretence of care. Using her powers, she absorbed the curses and illnesses from Siroth’s side and secretly implanted them into Lumaya’s faithful, to be triggered later. Her betrayal stained her soul, and when her actions were discovered, she was exiled to the dark realm of Anathraad. There, her fellow Demons called her the Slitherer, likening her to a venomous serpent. Though she later learned that Siroth’s Firstborn had tricked her into this path, her anger could not change her fate. Consumed by guilt and sorrow, she lived in solitude, refusing to aid Siroth in many great conflicts that followed.
After centuries in the shadows, Praeva’s yearning for home grew too strong to ignore. She turned once more to Siroth, who revealed he had long ago hidden a Seed of Corruption in Mistwood. He offered her a chance to rule the transformed forest if she awakened it. Accepting the task, she took on a mortal form as a Demonspawn and entered the world of Teleria. Disguised as a travelling healer in the land of Yakai, she secretly gathered followers by extracting loyalty from those she cured and transferring it into elite warriors, who would later become her willing servants.
Once her small army was complete, Siroth sent Petrifya, a Demonspawn of decay, to lead the final stage of their mission. Digging beneath Mistwood, Petrifya created a path for Praeva and her chosen to reach the Heart Tree unseen. While the others launched a brutal assault to distract defenders, Praeva found the Seed buried deep at the tree’s core. With a touch, she awakened it, releasing a flood of dark power that spread rapidly across the land, corrupting the forest and its people.
However, Praeva’s role ended there. Siroth had not told her the full truth: awakening the Seed would cost her everything. She was consumed entirely, her essence becoming the source of the spreading Corruption. For as long as the evil remained, she ceased to exist. Only when the Heart Tree was destroyed and the Corruption ended did a faint spark of her reappear. The Arbiter took this remnant and placed it within a Shard, leaving open the question of whether Praeva can ever truly be redeemed.
