Pheidi Tealcrest, the final high courier of the Dragonkin Empire, served as the living voice of the Dragon Emperor, entrusted with delivering critical decrees across the realm. This position was one of immense honour and responsibility, ensuring the empire’s cohesion during its zenith. Pheidi’s story of courage and sacrifice became a beacon of pride for the Dragonkin, especially during their decline. As a cousin of the noble Ramantu Drakesblood, Pheidi’s dragon-born wings marked him with divine favour, but unlike many, he harnessed them to become a swift and elusive flier, a vital skill for his role.
Trained under harsh and unique traditions, Pheidi was blinded to prevent the extraction of imperial secrets, yet he adapted remarkably. With enhanced senses and golden sensory implants, he could navigate the world as keenly as any sighted being. His teal crest and feathers amplified his perception, allowing him to taste, hear, and feel his environment with extraordinary precision. Pheidi’s commitment to his duties and his unmatched skills earned him a reputation for incorruptibility, ensuring the Emperor’s messages reached their destinations without fail.
Pheidi’s defining moment came during the Sin of Dragons, when the Brimstone Gate fell to invaders. Amid the chaos of blood and fire, he raced against time to warn Dragonkin leaders of the empire’s impending doom. His credibility ensured thousands were evacuated, though many, blinded by arrogance, ignored his warnings. Despite his heroism, not all viewed him kindly. While figures like Ramantu and the sage Lazarius revered him, others, such as the bitter Legate Teox, blamed him and his kin for the empire’s downfall, seeing them as symbols of the Emperor’s reckless ambitions.
Unbeknownst to the Dragonkin, their tragic history was observed by the Arbiter, who saw potential in their greatness. Using mystical Shards, she preserved Pheidi and other exceptional Dragonkin, offering them eternal service to atone for their empire’s mistakes. Pheidi, disillusioned after the fall of his homeland, embraced the Arbiter’s cause, finding renewed purpose in her service. His unmatched speed and stealth made him indispensable, taking on secretive missions that mirrored his former duties as the Emperor’s courier.
Now, as an eternal servant of the Arbiter, Pheidi continues his soaring flights across Teleria, delivering messages and carrying out critical tasks. Rarely seen but always felt, his blurred silhouette cutting through the skies serves as a reminder of his unwavering commitment to duty and the legacy of the Dragonkin he once served.
