The Cerulean Guard is a highly skilled unit tasked with protecting the Sylvan’s most sacred places and most important leaders. From the Heart Tree of Nyresa to the Coppice Hall, and figures like the Conductor of the Sylvan Court and the Monarc of the Mistwood, all are kept safe thanks to the vigilance and strength of the Guard. Their watch never ends, standing sentry through every hour, prepared to face any danger. Known for secrecy and honour, joining the Guard is seen as a rare and exceptional calling, reserved for only the most resilient and determined Sylvan.
Becoming a Cerulean Guard is a brutal and unforgiving journey. Aspirants undergo relentless trials designed to push body and spirit to their limits. They must complete the Corpseflower Run without being bitten by its thorned guardians, endure the punishing waters of the Tide-hold, and survive the Neversleep, where they must defend a single nightberry against stealthy challengers for days without rest. Even after passing these tests, entry is never guaranteed. Only a few earn the blue cloak, sealing a lifetime of service and strict vows, including one of celibacy.
Among the Guard, Niamhe stands out as its most formidable figure. Known as the Spear of Nyresa, she commands the Guard with cold efficiency, assigning protection to vital missions and high-ranking leaders with meticulous care. Whether overseeing security for a travelling High Watcher or bolstering defences during key Sylvan gatherings, the safety of the Mistwood ultimately falls on her shoulders. Though the task is immense, Niamhe performs it with unwavering control, her presence as steady and sharp as her steel armour.
Niamhe’s nature is deeply tied to the Rhythm, the mystical force that shapes all Sylvan. While many Sylvan are swept along by shifting beats, her rhythm remains steady and relentless, echoing a war drum’s persistent thrum. It defines her purpose and attitude — focused, detached, and always alert. Her mindset closely aligns with Bladechorister Caldor, another stalwart of Mistwood defence. Their bond, born of shared duty and respect, is the closest either has to friendship in a life ruled by discipline and restraint.
In battle, Niamhe becomes the blade as well as the shield. Her weapon, the Spear of Nyresa, delivers swift death, enhanced by poisons drawn from deadly flora and fiercely protective frogs native to the forest. Like them, she guards her home with fierce resolve. Her shield, the Jeweled Leaf, bears symbols of her total commitment to her people. To Niamhe, every strike she blocks and every enemy she defeats is another step in keeping the Mistwood safe from all harm.
