Maneater Champion Lore

The Red Crusade drove hundreds of thousands of Orcs, Lizardmen, Skinwalkers, and Ogryn from the shores of Anhelt. Of these, most fled to the Sorrowlakes. The one called Maneater was among them. This massive Ogryn arrived in the company of near-strangers, who did not know his name, only the crime he had been accused of in his former home of Arnoc — murdering Humans and eating their flesh. And thence he earned his name. It was the only one they had for him, for Maneater was unable to share his own – his tongue had been cutout by his accusers. Furthermore, he was illiterate, and when others tried to teach him, nothing got through. Maneater settled in a Lizardmen village, remaining an enigma. He was a hard worker, quick to volunteer, and more than able. Decades went by, and despite his fearsome physical appearance did not harm a soul. He preferred his own company, fishing when not toiling alongside his neighbors. What’s more, he did not seem to age.

When the Gaellen Warclave was founded and recruiters came to the Ogryn’s village, they assumed that someone called ‘Maneater’ would be eager to sign up. He refused, and later the Gaellen Pact’s ships sailed off to Anhelt without him. Those like him who remained watched the ships go with fear in their hearts. They could only imagine what horror those aboard might see and experience, and what would happen if the armies failed.

Less than a decade later, new sails appeared on the horizon. Elves and Humans – from Aravia, Kaerok, and Frostheim — invaded the Sorrowlakes, coming for revenge. When Maneater’s village assembled a hasty militia to stand against the Telerian League, they assumed that Maneater would refuse. To their surprise, Maneater joined. When the enemy came he stood with his fellows, heavy mallet in hand. The foe were warriors from Order of the Conquerors, sick madmen carrying the guise of honorable knights, wielding axes and fueled by hatred.

When the Conquerors fell upon the ragged militia’s battle lines, the defenders buckled under their onslaught. The Conquerors were veteran soldiers, filled with a desire for vengeance, while the Lizardmen were armed with only determination and crude weapons. But they did not break. Not one even died. Even those whose throats were cut returned to their feet and fought on — not a drop of blood oozing from their wounds.

In the midst of it was Maneater, humming a wordless chant. He fought hard, but never pressed the attack. Those who watched him carefully saw that he did not suffer a single injury at the enemy’s hands, but still wounds split open on his skin, blood running down his body from his jaw. He gradually weakened, but still he hummed, and still his fellow militia fought on.

Horrified by the supernatural events unfolding before them, the Conquerors fled in disorder. Too exhausted and relieved to pursue, the militia turned to Maneater – whose name finally seemed to fit him, as the blood dripping from his mouth made it appear as if he had consumed his enemies’ flesh. But it was his own blood. He surely had worked a spell. The militia brought Maneater back to the village, and while he recovered, the people tried in vain to learn his secret. He could not tell them, and could not write, and so they never truly learned – they could only suspect. Nevertheless, they knew they were saved because of him, and were forever grateful.

The Clan Boss masteries are very different from what Hell Hades recommends (def tree vs. Support tree)

Why do you recommend Support tree for Clan Boss for this Champion?

  2. Ilya D

Doesn’t “grim resolve” make more sense than shield breaker since being under %50 HP would prob be far more common?

  3. Taylor

I’d like to see recommendations on which skill we should use when we get the souls? If that makes sense

  4. Gil

Just got this beast. Already have fumyth unkillable 1 keyin unm so I put him in high speed fr3nzy gear because he self damages with his a3. his a1 is also great with high CR. and his a2 steals TM. this dude is a complete greaseman. Better than many lehgoos

  5. tictric

I think he can also be an MVP in Fire Knight in those new kind of Tournaments (only champs from Gaellen Pact allowed) or Clan Quests (clear FK20 or higher 10 times with Ogryns only).

  6. Xin Qian

The MASTERY GUIDE gives fatal misleading info. The players who got this beast 99% will use him for a speed-tunned unlikable clan boss team. There should be a MASTERY guide for an unlikable clan boss. Thanks

  7. Drayolo

So if I’m reading what you are saying below about lasting gifts right you are saying “Do not do what I have suggested above in the guide. Do something else.” Correct?

@Shaddus: It was a long time ago where players found a way to create an easy way to build unkillable clan boss team by using Paragon to provide Unkillable buff and 4 Valerie to increase the Unkillable Buff duration. Plarium developer decided to implement a nerf to this mechanics to prevent players from taking advantage of building this team to tackle against the toughest Nightmare Clan Boss (it was before Ultra Nightmare Clan Boss being implemented I believe). This nerf also includes Lasting Gifts mastery to prevent it from extending the duration of any buff that prevents the enemy from killing its target (e.g. Block Damage, Unkillable)

  9. Shaddus

Is there any reason why this suggests Lasting Gifts if it won’t extend Unkillable?

  10. Polpov

@Robdalajara I do too, the only way to prevent this is if you manually target the main spider he’ll start using his A2. You can use this trick to complete the Arbiter missions but those 30/100 auto battles not so much. I know there’s a way to target the spider every battle with a macro (using bluestacks?) but I’ve never tempered with it. Hope this help!

  11. Moonbiter855

I have to agree with @Chris Deux. He needs to be rated higher on Fire Knight because his Siphon skill completely depletes the turn meter and he is a life saver on the two trash waves before the boss fight.

  12. Robdalajara

Does anyone else have the issue that he will not use his Syphon ability when on auto? It’s super frustrating, as he just uses his A1 and A3 during spider runs on auto.

  13. Wildsdreamer

He’s probably the most important champion in the entire game. He’s the universal key to all kinds of variations of Unkillable Clan Boss teams. Clan Boss gives the best loot in the game, which makes him so valuable. Gratz to you if you pull him!

He can be used in Arena too with good success, but he’s best known as the Clan Boss King.

  14. PotatoeKing

    Hi Ayumi,
Maybe you should also provide the masteries for the cb unkillable combo, he is quite famous for that. 🙂
    Cheers

  15. Chris Deux

Maneater is very, very useful on Fire Knight. His Syphon was a game changer for me…draining the boss turn meter and keeping the shield down for extra rounds of damage or healing / buffing before his attack. He is definitely better than a 3 star there.

  16. Benjo

How to build masteries for this guy in CA team? He is my only Atck down champ and I suspect Rapid Response and Arcane Celerity will mess up the rotation.

  17. Chris Spotts

I’d expect maneater higher for spiders. Turn meter reduction, unkillable and block buffs for the poison, and an aoe A1 attack down – makes the spiderlings much more survivable. He was key to getting me through spider 20

  18. Destroyer39

Ash did a great unkillable clan boss team guide like a week ago you might want to add.

  19. Zark79

It’s difficult to build this guy properly, he needs a lot: good AC (for Attack Down and A2), CR (otherwise you have no Attack Down debuff), HP (& Def. stacked up too if you use him for CB), Speed (preferably he needs to go first on the arena, and first or second CB for Attack Down), and, optionally, Attack (as his damage scales with Attack and not HP, unfortunately).

This guy has needs! But he is worth it, really he is.

  20. sauce

isnt better Defense tree and go to Retribution to have 50% chance to counterattack him with the A1 and renew the Decrease Attack?
Master Hexer only adds 30% chance to renew it..

  21. Ayumilove Post author

@sauce: Use Lifesteal on Maneater so he could heal himself rather than relying on Apothecary to heal him. You will need to get Warmaster (Tier 6 Offense Mastery) on Maneater for his healing to be effective. Get his Critical Rate up to 100% so he can always land his Decrease Attack on Clan Boss.

  22. sauce

How to get 100% uptime with Attack Down on CB?
    Using Life Steal is difficult.
Having only Apothecary to heal ist hard not to use LS.

  23. Sauce

He misses frequently for CB his attack down.
    Because he uses another ability.
Or because its resisted or he gets stunned.
Bit after 3 or 4 minutes into the fight in Auto, o die becaise boss hits hard and its enough fornhim to miss it just once and we wipe because his attack down is only for one turn.
Being this, how can he be so good for cb?

  24. Manifesto

@Dreaken It’s to increase Block Debuffs (also on A3), there’s not much useful at that tier. Kill Streak or Spirit Haste are viable options.

  25. Dreacken

Just a question on the masterys suggested for Maneater. at the T5 branch under support it says to give him Lasting Gift, but in its description it states that it will not increase the buff duration of Block Damage, Unkillable, or Revive on Death. Since the only buffs he applies are Unkillable and Block Damage, is there any other mastery at that tier that would work for him at all?

  26. Lore

His shield says Attack when Shields can only be defense 🙂 Just a heads up. otherwise I love this champion!

  27. Ditch

I agree FLSUNDRAGON. Maneater (even after his recent nerf/correction on his A2), Madame Serris, and Tayre are overall the three best Epic champions for end game content. Miscreated Monster and Peydma are very good obviously, but I find much less places to use them end game than the these top three. Psylar is also worth mentioning as her A3 is one of the most OP skill in the game; she is also very useful in many end game team comps.

  28. FLSUNDRAGON

I’ve used him extensively for both PVP and PVE. He should be S tier. Sure, his damage doesnt scale well being an HP hero with damage based on attack, but his kit and overall utility make him one of the best epics. I would say that all of his skills (as well as his aura), are very strong.

  29. GGPotatoe

    Thanx!

  30. Ayumilove Post author

@GGPotatoe: All champions require Accuracy if they want to inflict a debuff on enemies such as Decrease Attack, unless stated otherwise where the skill description says “Cannot be Resisted”. For Maneater A1 skill, he will only apply that debuff if he successfully triggers a Critical Hit on enemies. This means that the proc rate is now handled by the amount of Critical Rate your Maneater has. If he has 100% Critical Rate, then he can inflict this debuff. However, all debuffs has a chance to be resisted by the opposing champion. The higher the amount of resist that the enemy has, the higher chances of that debuff will be resisted. Assuming Maneater has zero accuracy, while his target has 200 Resist, Maneater has a 10% chance of landing that debuff (200 resist – 0 accuracy = 200 difference, Minimum amount of chances to apply debuff by the game mechanic is 10% which cannot be reduced further by 200 resist)

  31. GGPotatoe

Why accuracy when his A1 debuff is applied by crit?
