Kosk of Two Skins Champion Lore Synopsis
Kosk of Two Skins was born into a distant branch of the Dragonkin Emperor’s bloodline, a place that carried honour but little real power. At birth, he bore small, underdeveloped wings, a rare trait among his kind that was often seen as a sign of greatness. Early praise surrounded him, and many believed he would rise to prominence. Yet as he grew, the wings never developed further, lacking the strength and form expected of such a mark. Admiration soon faded into disappointment, and whispers of doubt replaced earlier hope, leaving Kosk to face growing resentment from those who once admired him.
This shift cut deeply. Kosk felt abandoned by both his people and the fate they had once promised him. His thoughts became unstable, moving between fierce anger and a desperate wish to prove his worth. In his isolation, he discovered a book filled with knowledge of rare poisons and deadly substances. The descriptions of pain and decay within its pages spoke to him in a way nothing else had. Drawn to this dark knowledge, he began to study and experiment, finding a strange sense of purpose in the very toxins that mirrored his inner turmoil.
Over time, Kosk devoted himself fully to his craft. He created new poisons and tested them on himself in small doses, carefully observing their effects. With each trial, his body adapted, building a resistance that made him nearly immune to even the most dangerous substances. Though he now held the power to destroy those who had wronged him, he chose a different path. Rather than simple revenge, he wanted recognition. He sought to prove his superiority in a way that would force the Dragonkin to acknowledge him.
He found his opportunity in the legendary Ruby Brinelurker, a massive and elusive creature that had long been the target of noble hunts. Many had tried to defeat it and failed, turning the pursuit itself into a symbol of ambition. Kosk approached the challenge differently. Instead of relying on strength, he used strategy, baiting the beast with poisoned meat. His plan succeeded, and he returned wearing its skin as a trophy, confident that his achievement would earn him the respect he had always craved.
Instead, his return sparked outrage. The nobles dismissed his method as dishonourable, claiming he had taken an easy path. Worse still, they had come to value the creature as a lasting challenge, and its death robbed them of that symbol. Their frustration turned into blame, and all their disappointment fell upon Kosk. Cast out from the empire and sent into the harsh swamps of the Sorrowlakes, he lost any remaining hope of acceptance. What remained was a cold and growing fury, replacing his desire for approval with a relentless hunger for vengeance.
