Khoronar Reference

Below is a reference of the artifacts equipped on Khoronar, which are Taunting Set and Perception Set. These artifacts stats prioritized having a balance of Speed, Accuracy, Critical Rate, and HP stats. Taunting Set is suitable for Khoronar as he has the ability to attack all enemies on the battlefield with his A1 (default attack skill) and he has the HP to tank the hits from provoked enemies. When he is paired with champions who can apply Decrease Attack, Decrease Speed and Decrease Speed debuff, enemies who have any of these 3 debuffs attacks Khoronar will receive a counterattack from him and increases the likelihood of getting crowd control with Provoke debuff again. With constant attacks from Khoronar, he can easily lock down the enemy team, preventing them from using any of their special ability that can pose a threat to your team!

Khoronar Champion Lore

The tale of Marquess Khoronar has been told before: how the haughty nobleman was cursed by the Arbiter for his callous ways and lived as an imprisoned beast, but was yet redeemed by his love for Minaya who loved him in turn. As it was told and re-told, often changed and abridged by mistake or for the sake of brevity, taste, and censorship, variations on its theme emerged, and the story was rubbed smooth of many details. Its archetype became embedded in the psyche of the Humans of Teleria, especially among the romantic Banner Lords, from whom the most detailed retellings derive.

At tale’s beginning, the marquess is a man of monstrous character in a Human body, and by its end his monster’s body holds a true man’s, much changed and purified. His redemption comes at the cost of much suffering, but that suffering does not break his will, it does not send him into a spiral of despair and self-pity. He continues to do right by himself and eventually learns to live for others as well. Most readily understand that Khoronar’s suffering and healing are an allegory for the fatal flaws all people possess and must address, and of the power of love and mutual compassion.

But there is another layer of meaning, less obvious in most tellings of the tale, but more clear in the earliest fragmentary versions based on first-hand accounts. Weaved into the story is a subtle but very real fear of Skinwalkers, and the spread of their bestial curse. Although in the story the righteous hand of the Arbiter is the one that damns Khoronar, every peasant hearing the tale knows that any one of them could also suffer the same fate but from cruel, random chance or lack of vigilance. All listeners know that the vivid accounts of Khoronar’s rampages aren’t drawn completely from imagination, but yield from so many generations’ traumatic memories of living with Skinwalkers.

Faithful tellings, however, are more than a simple cautionary tale, for the Khoronar fable is one of redemption, and the Arbiter’s forgiveness in the tale is an allegory for what is possible for all Skinwalkers. Though they are permanently changed by their animal possession, their minds and their souls are still capable of tenderness and love, valor, and nobility. This story’s heart reassures listeners that the terrible Skinwalker curse does not have to truly mean the end.

The most fascinating thing for some, about Khoronar’s tale, is its end, or rather its lack of a definitive end. Each ending has Minaya slain and Khoronar triumphant but heartbroken, only for the Arbiter to appear once more and return Minaya to life in acknowledgement of Khoronar’s genuine turn of goodness. But afterward, the narratives diverge. The high chivalric tradition of Kaerok, with its romantic genre of literature, ends the tale with Khoronar returned to his Human form, restored to his lordly title with Minaya as his bride, their rule long and blessed. The Sacred Order’s hatred of Skinwalkers means that he can not, in official canon, remain one and be a respected ruler. But folk tellings from Kaerok and the Lands of Rebirth often omit the Arbiter’s lifting of the Skinwalker curse from Khoronar. In this rendition of the tale, he remains a Skinwalker and reigns regardless. This twist reveals the peoples’ fears and uncertainties regarding the mere possibility of a Skinwalker becoming a lord or a lord becoming a Skinwalker, and what would come of it. In yet another ending, Khoronar does not return to rulership at all, but still manages to live happily ever after with Minaya, leaving his land and title behind along with his arrogance and cruelty. This ending is most loved among peasants.

And then there is the most fascinating ending of all… Some say that the Arbiter told Khoronar that his debt to the forces of goodness and Light was still unbalanced, and left Khoronar a Skinwalker, perhaps by his own choice. Minaya, having been raised from death by the Arbiter, refused to be parted from his side. And so, both of them offered their eternal service to the Light and had their souls bound to Shards. When the world reaches a crisis it cannot bear, and the end times descend, Minaya and Khoronar will return to the battlefield to save Teleria, or else fight to the last in the name of the Goddess.

this is the best raid story line i’ve ever read
    did you write it?

  2. Morgan

@Steve. No point having any attack on him as damage is based off HP. So Attack does nothing at all.

  3. onemoregimp

I love my Khoronar in Lifesteal set…
Khoronar + Madame Serris = almost all UNM Comparing
Khoronar + Ultimate Galek = Spider Den 20 lvl
Khoronar really helps in Doom Tower levels (not on boss ofc)

Very fun Champion! My account was 1.2M power and i pulled a Khoronar and it was literally gamechanging. Dungeon progression went up 5 levels. I’m auto battling 18’s now. I think he should maybe be rated a little higher on Campaign though. Paired with my Psylar, they 3 starred most of my Nightmare Campaign. Khoronar is just a beast at locking down waves, pretty much everywhere. I have mine in Taunt and Perception gear and it’s really funny how often Provoke and Counterattack procs. Even with both in 4 and mostly 5 star gear. Overall, amazing kit, amazing champ. (Amazing Website, thank you!)

  6. steven

with such a weak multiplier would he do better with attack than just stacking hp?

  7. Nommanom

    @Ayumilove
I’d recon the best combo for Khoronar in terms of sets is 1 Taunt and 1 DT Freeze Set. Works great in the sense that for DT, Khronar can resist freeze and place freezes as well, further locking it down.

  8. MrShovel

Should be S tier. 5 star for campaign, farms in 10 seconds, hp based which is nice for nightmare, all aoe attacks. 4 star for clan boss. Decrease defense and decrease attack, counterattacks when hit by decrease defense, decrease attack which should be on the clan boss for 90% of the time. Why isn’t he S tier?

@jakefromstatefarm: Thanks for your input! I’ll add the Taunt Set to the equipment guide list.

  12. jakefromstatefarm

Khoronar’s best set has to be Taunting (please add it to the recommended sets). Taunting doesn’t see a lot of use in the game, but it synergizes amazingly with Khoronar’s kit.
His A1 is AOE, and it gives him a 30% chance of provoking every time he counter attacks. This leads to an endless, downward spiral of the provoked targets attacking him and triggering more provokes through counterattack, until the opposing team constantly has 2-3 targets under permanent provoke which they cant escape from.
Seriously, taunting set makes him an absolute beast. Literally all 3 of his abilities have AOE provokes with this set

  13. Coffeemonster2

I’d change up his masteries vs what you have above. His specialty is really clearing trash waves and being general crowd control. He’s a monster in the arena if you spec him right.

He’s really best off with Helmsmasher at end game and flawless execution before that. I would also make sure he has bloodshield since his HP will likely be over 80k in decent gear (mine has over 110k HP and he’s not in anywhere near best in slot gear).

I would go down the defense tree over support. Master hexer doesn’t affect provoke, it would only impact his attack down and he’s not a viable main attack down champ (4 turns is too long). Most of the support tree is to increase his Acc which you can get with gear. Deterrance or cycle of revenge are more valuable than the 1.5% more HP you get with lore of steel.

If his AI weren’t dumb, he’d be a 10 second farmer in appropriate gear. He wastes time taunting but his A1 can one-shot 12-3.

  14. Dave

To make up for not having Minaya, have a def debuffer go ahead of him and enjoy. Sadly for me the few books I’ve managed to throw on him completely missed his a1.

  15. Verth

I got this guy today and so far loving him, would love to get Minaya but even alone this champion is awesome, I am probably going to try and go defense heavy and make him an insane tank nuker, so a good amount of crit rate and damage with defense % and HP % where I can.

  16. OrcLadyConnoisseur

This guys is sick; even if you don’t build him with crit rate/damage gloves he still hits hard because of his HP scaling. Useful if not downright op in almost every area of the game. Give him evil eye mastery and just laugh at how easy the game becomes. Kind of wish his provoke was 2 turns though; am I asking too much?

  17. akiskaloz

@Fooby, yeah 2 mening every single dungeon with Minaya… This is a stupid dou, shouldnt exist in the game.

  18. Fooby

This guy is a beast, pulled him from the summoning event previously.
He helped me clear IG 20, Drags 20 and Soon FK 20.

Equipped him with a Stun set, with
    – CR% on gloves
    – HP% on chest
    – Speed on boots.

With his A2 provoke & passive counter + stun set on A1 his CC is great for the waves leading to bosses.

+ He is a void champ so affinity won’t affect his damage output.

*No Att% on chest cuz it scales badly and his A1 does dmg based on HP

@Bjos: I have added Hell Hades video into the champion guide above! Thanks for mentioning it 🙂

@Coffeemonster2: The early ratings were given based on his skill kit. After watching Khoronar’s performance showcased in Youtube videos, I have re-evaluated his ratings. A 5* campaign farmer is a champion who can perform a campaign clear it under 10 seconds on Campaign Brutal. A 4* Campaign farmer is rated for those who clears under 30 seconds or assist the primary champions (1~2 champion completing Campaign with 3 Stars) for Normal, Hard, Brutal or Nightmare.

  21. Bjos

Yeah this champ is under rated. The video review is from Hell Hades. You should check this video review youtube.com/watch?v=groopa0g6Pg

  22. Coffeemonster2

I really disagree with your ratings for this champ. I think you are missing his counterattack mechanics and his synergy with debuffs.

    1. He is a campaign monster, all of his attacks are AOE. If Bellower is a 5* campaign farmer, so is this guy. He’s more durable than Suzerain Katonn who you have rated as 5* for campaign. Also he’s void, so he won’t run into any issues with affinities. If you need to 3* a campaign chapter, he can do it.

    2. He has a guaranteed counterattack for Clan Boss if you have champs who are bringing attack down (and really… you should have that). WM works extremely well on him.

    3. He has 27k base HP, provoke, and block debuffs. He reduces your opponents’ turns when he counterattacks. How is that not great for an arena defense champ?

Given how rare team counterattack champs are, having counterattack passively on a champion is really nice. Especially when he brings a solid complement of debuffs.
