Jotun Review

Jotun is an Epic HP Magic affinity champion from the Barbarians faction in Raid Shadow Legends. His skills don’t deal much damage like other Epic champions. Despite receiving a buff in late 2020, he has not become exceptional in any area of the game. As such, he is not recommended for investment in any aspect of gameplay at this time.

Jotun Masteries Guide

Clan Boss

Pre-requisite: Jotun to be equipped with Lifesteal Set, so he could replenish his HP via Warmaster (Tier 6 Offense Mastery) and equipped with Accuracy Set to boost his chances of applying HP Burn debuff to the Clan Boss without being resisted. If you aren’t lucky to farm an Accuracy Set from dungeons, you can use broken sets that have Accuracy substat and multiple upgrades on them. The mastery setup below is customized for Speed Tuned or Counter Attack Clan Boss Setup, which does not have any masteries that have Increase Turn Meter effects to prevent de-syncing of the champions attack sequence. The amount of Accuracy needed for Clan Boss is 40 per difficulty increase (e.g. Easy, Normal, Hard is equivalent to 40, 80, 120).

Jotun Storyline

Jotuns are a race of strong and proud warriors that hail from the frozen North of Teleria. Larger and stronger than a typical human or elf, they are easily distinguishable by the horns that crown their heads. Though they have a long-standing tradition of martial prowess, the once mighty Jotuns have been in decline for centuries. Most tribes have been forced to leave their homeland and band together with other exiles, adding their strength to Barbarian groups or mercenary bands. Though they all share an affinity with powers from beyond the material realm, some Jotuns can manifest these powers and add them to their already impressive arsenal. This Champion, in particular, has been marked by primordial fire – or so he believes – which marks him by the bright red colour of his hair, and the ability to summon flames that engulf the blade of his sword.

i dont have any hp burn and i got jotun with 4 turn hp burn, i know, i know he is trash, but since he is my only hp burn champ and now we all have rathalos, should i rank 6 him to go with rathalos?
my team clanboss in future will be :harima, rathalos, jotun, elva and altreon

  2. Robert Schuster Jr

    You misspelled JOTUNN

  3. Bennett

Jotunn is now spelled with 2 ‘N’s. I don’t know. I just comment here.

Jotun was one of the first epics I pulled and my hardest hitter during the early game. He seemed to be lacking potential so I left him at 5 stars for quite a while, but when I could not otherwise defeat frostspider in doom tower, I 6 starred him and have not regretted my choice. I haven’t put any books on him, but he can easily keep CB perpetually hp burned, and since he is epic, his burn deals 75k per tick. Outside of CB and Agneth I have little use for him, but in those areas he pulls his weight handsomely. He is one of my biggest damage dealers and usually last man standing in CB. I have now speed tuned him to be the stun target in my (yet incomplete) budget unkillable setup.

With frostspider that long duration hp burn is absolutely awesome, because it’s super annoying to accidentally kill Agneth when the debuff is not on.

    @Whats In A Name
He has DoomTower artifacts/gear listed in the same category as Clan Boss and Dungeons. A Lifesteal set and either an accuracy or speed set.

  9. Whats In A Name

Would Jotun’s equipment recommendations be the same for the Doom Tower as you have provided for the Clan Boss?

He’s the only champ I have that Plarium has listed as being good for the Doom Tower (at least in their promotion of the shards “Tower Climber SummonDraft” – so will be using him for the DT and want to make sure I have him equipped in the best way possible.

    [FYI – great website!]

  10. MrShovel

@ryan His attacks used to scale off of attack, and not hp. He was buffed in September, but Ayumilove just hasn’t updated Jotun much.

  11. KoS

I’d dress him in a Destroy set, and try him in the Spirit Keep >:)

  12. Ryan

Stat priorities are all wrong, skills are hp based and not attack

I’ve been using Jotun in a 2:3 Budget Unkillable setup (1 Maneater, 1 Painkeeper, 2 fast DPS, 1 slow DPS stun target) in the slow/stun target position, and it’s really tricky to get him to use his A3 on Auto (see Spam’s comment below, and HellHades video on this page) because his Decrease DEF 30% rarely procs, and only lasts 2 turns if it does. He won’t use his A3 unless that debuff is active. (The hp burn, when his A2 is fully booked and Master Hexer is chosen, works quite well, on the other hand, and can last 5 turns reasonably often, so that’s not the obstacle.)

I’m thinking of switching him into a Retaliation set to increase the number of times he uses his A1, but that would mean sacrificing a lot of the raw damage he does from having Life sets currently equipped … ugh. I could also make him a lot faster, but then I’d need another slow magic champion with high hp and low def to attract the stun and not be useless … so that’s a trick.

I’ve also tried using him with Gravechill Killer (who places a Decrease DEF 30% on her A2 IF there’s no poison debuff active), but it’s really hard to get good use out of her without Frozen Banshee–yet if you have Frozen Banshee, there’s almost always going to be a poison debuff active on the CB that will then turn GK’s debuff into the strong 60% version, which then won’t trigger Jotun to use his A3. Doesn’t solve it.

I’ve tried using him with Vizier Ovelis, but Vizier has so many debuffs that are useless for the CB, that his A1 (debuff extender) doesn’t seem worth it.

Now I’m working on a Bulwark to accompany him, but wondering … how much damage are people getting out of a Bulwark/Jotun combination? In my current comp, with all of these A3 problems, I’m still getting 26M per key vs UNM (Void) with 2 Frozen Banshees at his side. Should I just assume that’s about as good as it’s gonna get without some crazy legos I don’t have?

  14. Spam

Jotun are now a awesome clan boss champion if you only have 30% decrease def. He hits amazingly hard on his A3.

IF you have 60% decrease def, the AI will not use his A3 on auto. If you play clan boss manually this will not be a problem.

If you play clan boss on auto and can choose between coffin smasher and jotun it will be hard to choose. The difference on the HP burn are 25K for each turn for epics.

  15. Lakthaelle

If you don’t have Bulwark, would you advise Jotun or Coffin Smasher for clan boss?

  16. Grimm_peeper2

Since Jotun is now HP based wouldn’t HP% CP be a better option than ATK%? Just checking with the expert. Love the page and thank you for all the info.

@Leve: Jotun’s skill description has been updated 🙂

  18. Ayumilove Post author

@Erik Toolander and @Kedvarius: Jotun has been buffed in patch 2.20 on September 16 2020. His skill’s damage are now based on HP!

  19. Leve

    Update!!

  20. 4catsarmy

They just need to buff his attack stat to 1300. His multipliers are pretty massive (i think his A3 is 8x Atk) , just that his base attack is so low right now.

  21. Kedvarius

Jotun seems to remain needing a major tune up. A hp champ that doesn’t scale with hp is a crying shame. He could be a lot better but needs a re-work to be viable as a team player. Maybe some kind of passive skill would make him properly epic.

  22. AliasOfMine

also why is he HP, when his skills scale only attack and he has no hp interc effects…

  23. Erik Toolander

This big guy need more love. Please rework him. Vergiss and oathbound got buff, i think he need too
