Gorgorab Review

Raid Shadow Legends – Gorgorab is an Epic Support Magic champion from the Undead Hordes faction where he is obtainable from Ancient Shards and Sacred Shards.

Gorgorab Champion Lore

Centuries ago, Gorgorab – along with his younger brother, Mortab — belonged to the brotherhood of the Mausoleum Mages. Keepers and practitioners of dark magical knowledge, the Mages served an ancient Human kingdom on the island of Tarnok, among the eastern Lost Isles. It was their duty – according to ancient custom and the prophetic calendar that guided the kingdom — to resurrect their dead rulers across an expanse of centuries, building an Undead dynasty that they believed was worthy of the Dragonkin Empire that Tarnok had sworn fealty to centuries before. Despite wielding necromantic arts, the Mausoleum Mages were forbidden from prolonging their own lives.

Gorgorab’s temperament was ill suited to his priestly duties. Impatient and rebellious, he never truly accepted the right of the Undead rulers to command and control him, let alone in some perverse emulation of the Dragonkin Empire, which was, by then, long fallen.

Together with Mortab, Gorgorab stirred up unrest among the Mausoleum Mages, pointing out the injustice of their subjugation and recommending the only possible remedy — revolt. Those the brothers convinced to betray their oaths rose up and used their sorceries to unbind and destroy their liege-lords. Anarchy soon gripped the island of Tarnok with the collapse of the regime and, in the midst of this, the traitors, realizing they had lost control and unable to agree on any one course now that their rulers had been slain, made their escape from Tarnok’s blighted shores.

The Mausoleum Mages scattered across Teleria, most going their own way. After disagreements relating to the use of their magical powers, Mortab lost contact with Gorgorab, and later came to believe his brother had been slain by the surviving, living descendants of the old kings. He was mistaken, for Gorgorab had endured, concealing his identity as he traveled to Anhelt, intending to leave behind the legacy of the Mausoleum Mages and chart his own course toward immortality.

Like the other Mausoleum Mages, Gorgorab embraced the unrestrained use of necromancy and flooded himself with its energies, unnaturally prolonging his life while bringing on the curse of lingering decay. After turning against his old rulers, he found himself ill suited to serving others, despite the fact that many Mausoleum Mages had slipped back into those same habits. Filled with ennui, he wandered far and wide, seeking purpose besides fighting back against the slow corruption of his body and the arrogance of those who he believed sought to control and use him.

Eventually, Gorgorab journeyed to the Stormwind Wastes, hoping to find the bones of the Dragonkin civilization that had supposedly once commanded the respect and veneration of his ancestors and raise them from death for his own gain. He wandered the region for many years, becoming a dire legend to those few mortals who encountered him on their travels and lived to tell the tale.

Gorgorab came across a ruined shrine that he identified as the tomb of a long-dead noble of the Dragonkin Empire. He attempted to resurrect the dusty remains but found it beyond his powers. Never one to give up lightly, Gorgorab established the ruins as his new home and ransacked its artifacts, including ancient stone tablets inscribed with spellcraft that the necromancer could not fully grasp. Believing the Dragonkin could further his knowledge and perhaps recompense his people for their misplaced fealty, he renewed his efforts to resurrect the noble, intending to force it to teach him how to achieve a degree of power that would ensure none would ever seek to use him as either servant or savant ever again.

    Gorgo blessing for Arena.

  2. Ptukh

I know it is not great at all… but that was my first time to beat 13sh fw. I had 40 Dark Athel in attack, 40 Lich in random, 40 Doomscreach in speed and frost, 60sh FB in accuracy/speed. They were dying and dying. Again and again. And 57 Gorgorab in areana setup summon them back. You’re doing something wrong if ressurect is used on cd. But that was epic. It felt like real necros. Gorgorab is king of dead!

  3. sauce

why accuracy? only for his a1? why not resistance? hp or def even?

  4. florim

Does he heals 25% of his hp to everyone or each champion heals 25% of its own hp?

  5. Just some guy

@MotherOfDragons3 I personally think 3 speed sets are the way to go, especially in arena because most gold teams are speed-tuned and are designed to nuke you if they go first. In CB you could consider stalwart but shield is kind of a waste as it’ll only last for the first 3 out of 50 or so turns.

  6. MotherOfDragons3

Are there no more recent videos for us to view for Gorgorab? These are old, and in Russian. Also, I’m looking regear him, and I’m having trouble deciding which set to go with. I mainly use him in Arena, but I’m looking to utilize him more in CB. Stalwart, Shield gear?

  7. rasp13

I just pulled him, but also recently got High Khatum from daily log in. Who is better for arena speed build teams? Thanks all for advise

  8. Jock1092

@michael Morris, shield set gives a two turn shield based on hp, no need for shield skill to use it.

Shield set does work better with champs like brogni because there it counts as a separate shield from the one he casts and will be boosted by his skills but it also works great on a speed boost champ to mitigate the initial hits a bit if you lose the speed race and go second.

  9. Michael Morris

So… why is a shield set recommended for Gorgorab? (1 shield, 1 speed for arena, doom tower, faction wars) He doesn’t have any shielding skills. Stalwart I can see. That would make the team tougher. Shield, I’ve got no clue. Thank you.
    Love the site.

  10. Graywolfe

What kind of armor are you using?
I was the recommended 3 speed sets but I don’t need him fast so I am playing around with other sets trying to get him a bit more tanky.

  11. Virginia Poole

I use gorgorab as my main reviver if you put good amor on him he can solo all the campaigns up to brimstone path on brutal ,he also is great against the clan boss to be honest he is in almost all of my fights no matter the affinity

  12. Graywolfe

So I recently got this champ and I have him upto level 40 now but he is so squishy. I am mainly using him in the arena but he is always the first to die making him pretty useless to me. Should I even try to level him up anymore? I mean right now Shaman is doing a better job for me in the arena so do I even need him?

@Mwolf: I have bumped up Gorgorab’s rating for Dragon and Ice Golem from 4 star to 5 star. Spider’s Den and Fire Knight’s rating from 3 star to 4 star.

@Knctrnl: Yes, I highly recommend booking him. He will be a great asset for Magic Keep, Faction Wars and Arena. I have him fully booked as well. He can be use to Speed Farm dungeons as he has the shortest skill animation, which reduces the time it takes to complete a dungeon run such as Ice Golem’s Peak and Dragon’s Lair.

  15. Knctrnl

Is this a champion that I should book out?

  16. Ayumilove Post author

@MeritReaper: Gorgorab has an instant effect on his A1 that is removing buff from an enemy. I have tested this with my Gorgorab with and without Accuracy, and found out that Accuracy do play a part in preventing enemies from resisting when Gorgorab tries to remove enemy buff especially in Arena. Accuracy also helps Gorgorab to remove Magic Keep boss’s shield and other buffs, which speeds up my potion farming there.

  17. MeritReaper

Why accuracy? There are no debuff attacks.

Big fan, always great content here.

  18. Mwolf

I’m inclined to think Gorgorab should be 5* for dragon. I’m midgame and I have champions with low HP. Gorgorab makes it possible to finish Dragon 20 with 100% success if the debuffs proc from the other team members.

What I mean is I have Lyssandra and Elhain on my Dragon 20 team and they both die if Serris can’t strip the buffs or if someone gets stunned at the wrong time. Gorgorab with books into his A2 and A3 will pick up dead teammates over and over again. My team doesn’t do a lot of damage. I imagine that once I have Royal Guard at 6*, he will be able to survive the trash mobs because of Gorgorab.

I ran into a similar thing with Ice Golem. After he got me to silver 3 arena, my next mission was to get 5 or 6* gear from Ice Golem. In the Kantra fusion my limit was level 17. I started on 17 but was only getting 4* gear. I moved up a level but got the same result. I kept moving up until the next thing I knew, I was on level 20. Believe me, even with the 50% ATK up, Elhain only hits for 40K. It’s not like I’m nuking my way through. Lyssandra is in all of my dungeon teams but her speed is only 270.

@KirbyMorph: If you use Gorgorab primarily for Arena, then he does not need to be booked. However, he will be a vital instrument in completing Faction Wars Undead Stage 20 to revive team members when they die due to enemies powerful attacks. Gorgorab will benefit immensely when fully booked to reduce the cooldown of his revive skill, increase the chances of removing enemy buffs especially large amount of Shield and Block Debuff.

  20. KirbyMorph

Is he worth booking as f2p? Or is he just an aura for arena that is fine with no skill upgrades?

  21. infra

Retribution is so good for Arena. Often Gorgo will get focused because revivers are a priority to kill first, so him countering arena attackers with his A1 proces often, and the mere possibility of removing a pesky buff like Revie on Death, Unkillable, Def Up, etc is enough to make the choice. Having one extra turn on the Atk up buff is not worth since A2 is on a 3 turn cooldown, which means that the buffs will be up almost always when you need it

  22. Ayumilove Post author

@MaxBT: I would not recommend choosing Lasting Gift for Arena if you are playing as the attacking team. Gorgorab is commonly used as the Speed Nuking Arena champion (short burst attack).

    1. Although he does not do damage, his A1 plays an important role in removing buff from enemy champion with the proc from Retribution when enemy had the chance to retaliate if your pre-emptive attack failed to clear them quickly.

    2. If Gorgorab buffs expires fast (2 turns instead of 3 turns from Lasting Gift), he will gain Turn Meter from Rapid Response much more quickly. As a result, he will be able to reduce all of his skills cooldown much quickly, especially for his A2 “Resurge” and A3 “Animate” (Revive champions).

    3. You may also find yourself setting up arena team that includes Defense/HP role champions, who does not benefit much from Increase Attack buff.

I have tested Gorgorab using both masteries setup in all areas before recommending them in the guide above.

  23. Tim

Heart of Glory is selectable after Keen Strike has been chosen.

  24. Joseph

Under Clan Boss, Dungeons, you have Heart of Glory selected. How? After Deadly Precision, you can’t select Heart of Glory, because it’s not in line with Deadly Precision. Were things different when the game was new?

  25. MaxBT

Arena mastery, the choice of retribution is not necessary, gorgorab counter attack is not worth damage (as he is more support, not damage dealer), I would choose lasting gifts extend buff 1 turn.

  26. David

Yes, he does require accuracy for his A1 to proc

  27. poopslinger

Question: The A1 skill. It has 50% chance to proc. Is that a flat rate or does enemy Resistance and Gorgorab’s Accuracy come into play?

  28. Ayumilove Post author

@boges11: Thanks for spotting the error! I have updated Gorgorab’s A1 Skill “Misfortune” to “remove buff” instead of “remove debuff”. Typo on my side haha. I have also updated the other pages “INSTANT: Remove Debuff” and “INSTANT: Remove Buff” section 🙂

  29. boges11

This hero popped up when I clicked on the “Remove Debuff” link. He only removes buffs.
