Foli Champion Lore
Once, the Dark Elves considered themselves philosophers and revolutionaries; they alone were willing to test the ancient traditions of Aravia, and delve into that which was forbidden by their more timid kin. Much has changed since then. The idealism of the past has given way to a brutal pragmatism that many Dark Elves view as necessary for their survival in the aftermath of the civil war and the split between what would become High Elf and Dark Elf societies.
But some among them still hold fast to the ideals of the past. The enigmatic warrior known as Foli is one. He was among the first to be visited in his dreams by the spirit known as the Dreamwalker, and also among the first to learn the secrets of shadow magic. Unfortunately for Foli, he was also among the first to be exiled for what the greater Elven society of Aravia saw as a dangerous obsession. Forced to leave his kith and kin behind, he fled Aravia for lreth, seeking sanctuary with his cousin, Ovelis, before the advent of Bad-el-Kazar and lreth’s fall to darkness. Foli continued his studies in lreth with a zeal that bordered on fanaticism, until even the mages and sorcerers of that city became alarmed, none more so than Ovelis. He retracted his offer of sanctuary and demanded that Foli depart. Foli did so, but not before having made his first breakthrough in learning to fully manipulate shadow-stuff.
Through study and discipline, Foli honed his magic into something unique; rather than using it to attack his foes or hide, he instead used it to protect himself, turning his own shadow into a suit of armor unlike any other. A living carapace of ever-shifting shadow-substance, it provided Foli with exceptional protection and an unnatural vitality. It could resist crushing blows that should have shattered bone and pulverized flesh and any wounds he suffered healed almost instantly. Nor did Foli need weapons, for the armor could produce a sliver of darkness that would take the form of any sort of blade or bludgeon he might require. Indeed, after so many years within the armor, it was debatable that Foli was even an Elf anymore. Rather, he had become a strange, symbiotic entity – a thing of flesh and shadow.
But even this wonder wasn’t enough for Foli. He needed to learn more. He traveled across Teleria, seeking out places of forbidden knowledge and ancient magics. He delved into forgotten places, and learned more than any mortal being about the true nature of the Darkness and the Light. As he did so, his perception of the circumstances of his exile changed.
At first, Foli had been as resentful as any of his fellow exiles. After all, though he’d broken Aravian law, what harm had he truly done? In lreth, he nurtured dreams of revenge, of returning to Aravia in triumph, his mastery of shadow magic undeniable and irresistible.
But as Foli learned more about the magic he had devoted his life to, and watched his people tear themselves apart in the internecine conflict that became known as the War of the Elves, he had an epiphany. Perhaps it came to him in a dream; or maybe some spirit whispered it to him during his quest. Regardless, he realized that his ire was aimed in the wrong direction.
His troubles were not the result of political rivals, fearful administrators or those who feared the corrupting nature of shadow magic, but rather had originated from a single source – the Dreamwalker. The Dreamwalker was the source of all Foli’s ills, and by extension, the ills of Elvenkind. And so, Foli determined the Dreamwalker would be made to pay.
In the decades that followed, Foli sought out a means to accomplish his goal. Eventually, his quest attracted the attention of the Arbiter, who visited him one night as he hovered between wakefulness and sleep.
She revealed the Dreamwalker’s true identity as Siroth, and explained how he had manipulated the Elves into tearing their own society apart. Foli had little hesitation in believing her, for much of what she said confirmed his findings in his own investigation. But what could Foli do against such a being?
The Arbiter understood his concern, but saw in Foli’s need for vengeance a chance to hamper Siroth’s designs. She spoke to him of others who shared his desire to stop Siroth, and how together they might be able to prevent the Darkness from consuming Teleria. The two spoke long into the night, and when morning dawned, the Arbiter was gone and Foli was ready to begin his guerrilla campaign to uproot the servants of Darkness and upend Siroth’s schemes wherever he could.

I like my foli, since everyone has sunwukon and a lot of time pair him with tank, like UDK+Mythrala, you juste kill him with the aoe and slowly deal with the rest of the team.
Does anyone know for sure if the Wisdom of Battle mastery on the defense tree would proc if the listed debuffs we’re applied to Foli? It seems to me that the way the passive skill is described, “…immediately removes said debuffs…”, That the Block Debuff buff would have a chance to proc since the Debuff has to be placed before it could be removed.
@Lexx If you’re trying to block revive on the spiderlings, don’t bother. They aren’t being revived, new lings are getting summoned.
Block revive it’s not working on ice spider hard, any ideas please?
Wondering if Foli is actually better than 4* in Ice Golem due to block revive, AOE nuke + the decrease Def A1 and leech could be useful, no?
Definately guyver, even the passive is living armor
–RSL717– first of all foli is not good on CB but if you will use him then you need to have giant slayer in masteries, and A1 will make 5x more dmg then A3 so BCS that they turn off that spell
Can anyone tell me why they changed Foli to not use sealed fate on the clan boss on auto? I don’t really understand why they did that and I can’t find an explanation anywhere.
Funky it’s not that he isn’t good it’s probably because the rating is in comparison to other S tier champs that are far better, however I have to agree with you. He is doing well for me.
I’m not sure why he is rated so low in Spider’s Den. He drops turn meter, lowers defense and adds leech. He works great for me.
@Daedalus whether you should take giant slayer (chance to proc extra damage *on each hit of a skill* i.e A1 skill hits four times, potential four hits of extra damage) or warmaster (higher chance to proc extra damage *once per skill, regardless of number of hits in a skill*) depends on where you plan to use this champion.
If, for example, you want to use Foli in the arena to deal the most consistent damage you can, your best bet would be to take Flawless Execution, which gives you +20% extra crit damage whenever you crit. If you plan to use him in the dungeons against waves and bosses, you’d be best served by taking giant slayer as his large number of hits on 2/3 of his skills almost guarantees several procs of extra damage which scales well against enemies with high hp (such as high-level dungeon wave enemies and most bosses).
In short, Flawless Execution is good against PVP and Giantslayer is better in many cases against PVE.
Could you elaborate on why Foli has no attack artifacts recommended for dungeons/CB? I would assume this is taking advantage of GS rather than relying on the damage from his individual attacks, but to me this makes him feel very weak on trash waves in between dungeons and only viable for CB and to bring down the shield on FK.
Do you consider his stat priority for Arena/DT/FW to be generally inferior to def%/hp% when dealing with dungeons?
Great, Im not the only one who thinks he looks like Guyver!!!!
I think I figured it out giant slayer is honest how much on each other skill versus war master is only once bonus damage per skill? So if you hit multiple times giant slayer is better?
I think I figured it out giant slayer is honest how much on each other skill versus war master is only once bonus damage per skill? So if you hit multiple times giant slayer is better?
Please tell me understand how giant slayer is better than war master, looking them up war master seems better has 60% chance of 10% extra damage versus 30% chance of 7.5% extra damage? What am I missing here??
Foli is DEFINITELY a direct ripoff of Guyver. lore and depiction match completely. also the way he deliberately holds his blades… GUYVER!!
I replaced Rotos in my Arena team with Foli, now Foli 1 shot killed all in Gold 4 most of the time, just have him go last, have increase ATK buff, and def debuff the enemy.
Just a thought on Foli 4 star in Ice Golem, I don’t know if this was taken into account or not, and I don’t know how he is in 20 yet. I run him on auto in 13, and he very commonly kills the extra minions with his A3, which blocks them from rezzing the rest of the battle. Which is pretty nice, and also I only have him setup defensively so I imagine he could be tweaked a lot better. Also Ice Golem 13/20 is weak vs magic.. Just putting that out there, not saying he is amazing but he seems alot better then most of what I have so far.
@Donald Eager: I have updated Foli’s A3 Skill “Sealed Fate” Skill Cooldown from 7 turns to 5 turns. Thanks!
Sealed Fate Is only a 5cd
@Gunduvar
Master Hexer only specifies which debuffs it *doesn’t* extend the duration of. It works on both Decrease Def and Leech that Foli has.
If you have Cruel, Divine Offense, Divine Speed etc. it’s better than just the base Offense/Speed. When you see it say Offense/Speed/Life etc. it just means to use any variation of those sets.
why has nobody mentioned this is simply the Guyver?
i really want this champion as i love the guyver
Howdy AyumiLove,
I noticed on the Mastery tree for support you have Master Hexer as one of the slots, but i noticed that Foli does not have any of the debuffs that Master Hexer specifies. I was wondering if you could enlighten me o. The why of having that versus maybe using the Sprint Haste Mastery. In addition to that question, would substituting the speed set for Divine Speed have any real effect? As well as offense with Cruel?
I am starting to wonder if Foli is better than Rhazin in CB in NM and UNM.
Foli A1 hits 4 times and dec def.
A2 hits 4 times and puts up leech
A3 hits 2 times and TM down
Rhazin A1 hits 3 times and removes a buff
A2 dec def and weaken
A3 hits 1 and TM down.
Both champs A3 isnt good at CB. But Foli hits 2 times so one more WM proc
Dec def is better than weaken at NM, and Foli should keep it up more consistently than Rhaz (since it is on his A1).
Remove buff would be nice a fd against magic CB.
The leech would help my problem that I cant get Sepulchers speed to plus 228-238 with LS gear. But the leech is on a 4 turn CD so I would need to use my books and hope I get the minus 1 cd.
Foli hits 4 + 4 + 2 with his abilties. Rhazin 3+1+1. Foli should get more dmg with WM.
However Foli is a atk champ and Rhazin a def champ = Rhazins own hits (not WM included) should hit a lot harder than Folis base attacks.
What do you guys Think?
Sealed fate should say cooldown of 5.
@Vin11: I would not replace Foli with Rhazin since Leech helps your team to heal more during battle. A consistent Decrease Defense down will allow your team to do significantly more damage.
@Lautaro: It’s worth booking Foli since he is used in both Arena and Clan Boss (Speed Team in Lead Position to take the Stun). If you are mainly using him as an Arena Nuker in a Speed Team, then no Legendary Skill Tomes are required.
Is it worth putting books to foli? or the passive profit in the CB does not justify the books?
Should I replace foli with rhazin for clan boss? My current team has Frozen Banshee, Tayrel, Skull Crusher, Miscreated Monster and foli. Foli and tayrel keep defense down consistently and the leech debuff helps as there is no healer in the team. Foli also has a 4 hitter a1 compared to Rhazin’s 3 hitter so he would provide more giant slayer procs. Rhazin, on the other hand, has better base def and also has a weaken debuff.
@AeolWind: I would recommend testing out one champion first before going all-out with swapping Lifesteal Set with other equipment. Reason being, your champions base damage must do much more damage to heal the same amount compared to Lifesteal Set. This means you will need to obtain and upgrade equipment with better substats rolls. In addition, you will need to keep the Leech debuffon the Clan Boss all the time. If the debuff was resisted and the champion who inflicts Leech debuff had to wait for X number of turns for the skill cooldown, it could risk wiping out the entire team. There is also a risk where if you have Poisoners in the team, and the Poison debuff took up all the 10 of the debuff slots, Leech could not be applied. There are some experiments done by some players, and they discovered that the champion who uses the Leech approach will require at least some additional healing such as “Rejuvenation” mastery.
Foli is really good post Leech update; he may be S Rank now. Depending on setup, he may remove the need to have Lifesteal artifacts on your clan boss team if he is booked. Mine isn’t booked & in bad gear, but added 6 turns to my counter attack brutal clan boss team & gave me my highest damage to date. Tayrel, Foli, Steelskull, Miscreated Monster, Skullcrusher. Replaced Kael/Juliana
@Zark79: Clan Boss has 2 types of setup: Speed Setup or Counter Attack Setup.
1. For Clan Boss Speed Setup, you just want to pump in as much as Increase Turn Meter and Increase Speed buff regardless of the turn order. It’s all about performing more multiple turns for a single Clan Boss turn. The Clan Boss damage will have a quite big range depending on whether the Clan Boss was lucky to kill one of your crucial champions (e.g. Speed Booster champion), then the damage will slow down a lot. Reason being, if Clan Boss was to stun your Speed Booster, everyone’s damage is lowered a lot as they do not have the speed buff.
2. For Clan Boss Counter Attack Setup, you will have more control of the turn sequence of each champion and the boss turn. This will provide better consistent damage output compared to Speed setup. The disadvantage of this is, those champions which are Speed Tuned will be in disadvantage in Arena since their speed is much lower compared to the champions there.
For the recommended speed, accuracy, defense stats for Clan Boss, I have the details prepared on the main page on this site at https://ayumilove.net/raid-shadow-legends-guide/
Choose Jareg if you have a secondary champion to apply Decrease Attack. Missing 1 Decrease Attack debuff on the Clan Boss will spell disaster as he can wipe out the entire champion line up with his AoE above Turn 20 in Brutal/Nightmare Clan Boss stage. I would pick Tayrel since he can also apply Decrease Defense debuff which greatly increases the damage output of Warmaster and Giant Slayer. The strategy is to always have a backup partner in case the main champion failed to apply the debuff. Example: Tayrel and Rhazin. If Rhazin Scarhide misses his Weaken and Decrease Defense debuff when Clan Boss resisted it, Tayrel can come in to apply the Decrease Defense debuff. This avoid the need of waiting for 3 turn cooldown from 1 champion.
Doompriest can be used to remove Stun from the stunned champion. It’s best to have him not to be the target. Otherwise, his skill cooldown will be affected. Doompriest will need to be the fastest in the Clan Boss team to remove the stun debuff from the affected champion. He is most used in Unkillable setup. The damage output from Doompriest is very little compared to specific role champions such as Poisoner or Defense/Attack champions. If you bring her in, you need to have another champion to deal more damage to compensate her weaknesses.
Thank you, Ayumi. I will try this set up as soon as I’ll level Rearguard Sergeant to 60 🙂
Can I ask you three last questions please?
1) It is usually the case that other experts state that Increase Speed buff is the most important one for any fight, including CB.
Why is it so, if this buff breaks the counterattack synchronisation?
Or is it Boosting Turnmeter that does so, while the aforementioned buff only speed the team up, regardless of whom is the fastest Champion out of the bunch?
2) I also have Jareg and Crypt King Graal. Do you think any of the two would be a better substitute for Tayrel?
Jareg seems to be used extensively in my Clan, and Hell Hades also uses him in his standard setup (I think, I watched a video where he mentioned it, but I could be wrong).
3) Doompriest. Does she has any place in a solid Clan Boss team, especially with the Champions mentioned above?
Wow, quite a lot of these questions. I owe you a chocolate for all that 😀
Good day to you.
@Zark79: I would recommend using this setup: Tayrel, Foli, Frozen Banshee, Rearguard Sergeant and Skullcrusher (Put them in this sequence). I would replace Foli with another champion who backups Rearguard Sergeant with Heal, Increase Defense and Remove Stun debuff. Ma’Shalled isn’t good in Counter Attack setup as he will desync the counter attack sequence because he buffs everyone with Increase Speed on Auto. You just need 1 Poisoner in a Counter Attack setup. Frozen Banshee outputs much more Poison debuff compared to Occult Brawler in a Counter Attack setup. With the new setup, you will be able to achieve a consistent 25~35M damage on Brutal Clan Boss and 25-30M damage on Nightmare Clan Boss. Once you have more equipment with better rolls on substats, you can attempt Ultra Nightmare Clan Boss with 10~15M damage per key. If you are lucky to get those awesome S tier Legendary champions for Clan Boss (15~30M per key)
Hi Ayumi!
Thanks for the answer.
I play on Brutal and usually deal around 20- 25 million damage with my current team, which includes Tayrel, Occult Browler, Frozen Banshee, Skullcrusher, and Ma’Shalled.
I think of removing FB simply because Tayrel is not able to keep up the Defence Down on CB. The demon is overloaded with poisons but I think OB would be more than enough to keep it stacked with poisons.
Or I could keep FB for Poison Sensitivity. Must test out which is a better Champions to be used as a sole poisoner.
The DD debuff could really boost my damage, hence the idea of employing a full time DD debuffer 🙂
Rearguard Sergeant does boost the survivability, whereas Foli is immune to stun, so he does not lose his turn.
Will have to check which is better.
Thank you again for your answer. Really appreciate your work and help here 🙂
@Pezkmal: Equip HP% or DEF% to make Foli to be more tankier, so he can survive longer to inflict more damage from Giant Slayer procs against bosses. You can substitute it with Attack%, C.RATE% and C.DMG, but you will need other ways to make him survive longer in battle.
@Televizion: Foli’s Sealed Fate has a long skill cooldown. I would not recommend using him in Spider’s Den as he does not help speed up that particular dungeon run.
@Zark79: It would depends on your Clan Boss team composition. If your Clan Boss team is not able to survive more than 5 minutes or 20 turns, it could mean that it lacks of team survivability. Having more DPS champions in the team may allow you to deal more damage but your overall damage against Clan Boss will be lower as the team dies too quickly. I would go with Rearguard Sergeant if you do not have Ally Protection, Decrease Attack and Decrease Defense in the team. Royal Guard is mainly for speeding up dungeon runs by eliminating the minions quickly and also doing damage to bosses. However, the damage is capped on Clan Boss when hitting him with ENEMY MAX HP damage, therefore he is not recommended to be used there unless you are just starting out with little champions to choose. I would go with Foli once you have the essential debuffs and buffs for Clan Boss in your team for extra damage. Essential debuff are Decrease Attack, Decrease Defense, Weaken and Poison. Essential buffs are Ally Protection, Healing, Counter Attack or Increase Speed with Increase Turn Meter, Increase Defense. Bonus buffs are Revive, Block Debuff, Block Damage, Unkillable, Revive on Death.
Hi Ayumi,
Between the three, which would you say is the best overall for the Clan Boss? Foli, Royal Guard, or Rearguard Sergeant?
I’d appreciate your advice 🙂
Why is he only 1 star in spiders? Not saying he should be 5 star or anything, but maybe 3 stars. His A3 hits hard and decreases turn meter. His A1 puts down decrease def on the spider, not amazing but helpful. Helped get me to spider 18 personally.
Love what you do! Thanks!
Missing the mention that he was available from a Fusion event during July 2019. Fusion required Towering Titan, Teshada, Missionary and Kiitis.
Why in the clan boss dungeon gear recommendation, preferred stats are def and HP? Could you clarify this one for me?
sorry i just realized DE stands for Dark Elves. My bad!
you labelled foli as DE-LAM but he’s ATTACK role
@SoCo79L: Foli can be acquired through opening Sacred Shard (Yellow Shard). This shard can be obtained by purchasing it with real money or obtained through event reward.
How is this Champion aquired?
Foli has been working wonders for me since the update. Even just the extra hit on the targeted enemy has made him so much more incredible. I also don’t have to worry about giving the enemies debuffs now in hopes of a block revive. It just works and I love it.
@Badman: Foli skill “Sealed Fate” has been updated according to Patch 1.13.
Foli feels like he’s on the cusp of being amazing to me. Hoping that with this next patch they seriously buff Leech OR completely change his A2 as currently leach feels useless. He looks like an assassin – poison or weaken would thematic.
