Fellhound Mastery Guide

Campaign

Pre-Requisite: Fellhound to be equipped with high Defense, Critical Rate and Critical Damage stat to defeat enemies in 1 hit for Brutal Campaign 12-3. If Fellhound damage is too low, his AI will prioritize on triggering A2 Skill (Reflect Damage and Continous Heal) to protect the fodder/food-champions before attacking the enemy. High Speed Stat (210 Speed) does not force Fellhound AI to attack enemies twice in first round unless the damage is high enough to drop enemies HP below 55%, otherwise it will trigger the A2 skill first followed by A3 skill.

Fellhound Review

Raid Shadow Legends – Fellhound is a Rare Void Defense champion from the Demonspawn faction where he can be obtained from Void Shards.

Champion Purpose

  • Fellhound excels as a support champion who prioritizes his skills based on you build him. He has a skill called “Flameborn Vigor”, which applies Continous Heal and Reflect Damage on all allies. It also has a skill called “Deflect”, which applies Block Damage buff to the targeted ally (the champion in the Leader Position).
  • Fellhound is famous for Fire Knight dungeon because he buffs his allies with Reflect Damage buff. Each reflected damage counts as 1 hit per ally champion. Consequently, it allows your entire team to cut down Fryo’s Shield Count (Fire Knight Boss) by half assuming when the boss performs his AoE attack when the buff is active with a team of 5 champions. He is a good support champion for this purpose in case you do not have an AoE Counter Attack buff champion nor Decrease Turn Meter champion.
  • If you build him heavily on the Offensive aspect (gearing him with high Critical Rate, Critical Damage, and Attack), he will attack the enemies first provided he can knock their HP down by half. This is applicable for an early-mid game where enemies’ HP and Defense stats are quite low.
  • Fellhound is a suitable champion for a Campaign Speed Farmer (Brutal 12-3 Farming), he will need 100% Critical Rate, 200% Critical Damage, 2K Attack/Defense stat to 1 hit KO (knockout) enemies. In addition, you will need to have 110 Speed stat to begin each round with attack because the enemy team in Campaign 12-3 has Diabolist with 110 base speed.
  • If you are using Fellhound for other higher-level areas such as Faction Wars, his damage will not be sufficient to deal damage equivalent to half of the enemy’s HP. As a result, Fellhound AI will prioritize triggering the A2 Skill “Flameborn Vigor” and A3 Skill “Deflect”.
  • Hence, it would be best to equip him with Artifact Sets that complements his A1 AoE attack skill. I highly recommend using Stun Set for Fellhound since it prevents the enemies from taking their turn and recovering their skill cooldown. Since he prioritizes heavily on A2 and A3 skills against enemies at a higher level, it’s also preferable to build him with high Speed (200 Speed Stat and above) and pair him with a Speed Buffer champion, so he is sufficiently quick to provide support and attack the enemies within 1 enemy turn.
  • Fellhound can also be used as a Spiderling bait (Tanker) to taunt all the spiders to attack him automatically by having his base health the lowest among all the champions in the team. To enable him to tank under this condition requires a special setup of equipment and mastery.
  • This setup requires equipping Fellhound with Lifesteal Set to replenish HP from his AoE attack, Warmaster (Tier 6 Offense Mastery) to deal a high amount of damage to high base MAX HP enemies, and Retribution (Tier 5 Defense Mastery) to counter-attack enemy when his HP drops at least 25% of his MAX HP. Hence, Fellhound HP should be set at approximately 26K with 2K Defense stat, sufficient for Spiderling’s attack to trigger the Retribution mastery. Fellhound attacks all Spiderlings with his A1 AoE attack, and replenishes HP from Warmaster damage whenever his HP drops 25% or more and Retribution activates on that condition.

Champion Synergy

  • Synergizes with Tainix Hateflower where Fellhound applies Decrease Speed debuff, while Tainix Hateflower heals all allies with her A1 skill if she hits an enemy under Decrease Speed debuff.

Champion Limitation

  • Fellhound AI prioritizes on A2 skill “Flameborn Vigor” followed by A3 skill “Deflect” if it knows it could not deal sufficient damage to kill the enemy in the AoE attack or bring their HP low enough to be killed in the second AoE attack. Therefore, he attacks the enemy less frequently.
  • Fellhound AI only targets champion in Leader Position using his “Deflect” skill. Therefore, if your Fellhound has the lowest base HP among all champions in your team, its recommended to locate him as the Leader position.
  • Fellhound does not bring much useful utility to the Clan Boss as his Continous Heal does not provide significant healing and the Reflect Damage buff does not return much damage. Hence, this champion is preferably utilized as Speed Campaign Farmer or a Crowd Controller.

Fellhound Storyline

Fellhounds are hellish creations of Siroth, his beasts of war. As they pass, these vicious hounds leaving charred pawprints and the smell of sulphur behind. According to ancient legends, seeing one foretells the unfortunate observer’s imminent death. And, considering the sharpness of the fellhounds’ steel-like fangs, it is not hard to see why. Yet those that somehow capture and tame the beast may take great advantage of their protective magic.

So in order to 1hit NIghtmare 12-3, he would need 110 Speed, and to Crit for at least 104k. Any of you math brains think this is possible? Probably requires 100% CD killstroke Gloves.

  2. Bubbla

@SSvraka i feel the same… Stats I have managed are 2.3k atk 3k def and 204% crit damage, yet still last wave needs 2 hits. (wont be an issue after i finish Mino and get the extra 20% flawless hopefully)

  3. NobleStiff120

Ayumilove I dont know if my comment went through or is under review but I just ask if you can clarify something: In a comment you state that this champ’s stat skill Ravage calculates Either DEF OR ATK do you actually mean to say: a ratio of DEF and ATK? I see that under the description of Ravager you list Damage calculation is 1.7 DEF+1.8 ATK. This suggests it uses a ratio of BOTH stats, not EITHER one or the other like your comment suggest. I WOULD just ASSUME your comment is a typo and the description is accurate but the reality is that the game descriptions of hybrid stat skills are far less thorough than your descriptions and comment threads, so I have to rely on your website more seriously and carefully than the game’s info.

  4. NobleStiff120

I need just clarity on the one issue regarding the mixed stat skills. I read you comment saying the felhound calculates atk OR def for dmg…but i assumed it uses some kind of combination of the two stats to calculate what damage… Are you sure it only takes ONE of the stat into calculation of damage? if so, which stat does it calc whichever is highest? I have several champs that blend their skill across two stats with no explanation in the game for how this resolves, so I tend to assume it somehow combines them…am I wrong in that assumption?

  5. SSvraka

    @Ayumilove
    ATT: 2668
    DEF: 3548
    CRIT DMG: 192

and i still cant 1 hit lord shazar (that last d-bag). now, eather your numbers are wrong or that 8% crit dmg makes huge difference (keep in mind i have well over recomanded 2k att/def)

  6. SSvraka

@Vino thats why speed tuneing is important so that fellhound goes last, right before enemys turn.
its verry important in late game and its a must in CB;for brutal and nightmare 172-177 spd (you get extra turn on hard everry now and than) and for UNM its 191-197 (i think)

  7. SSvraka

he should be A tier as he is crazily easy to build for speed farming

  8. Vino

I don’t get the 1 turn A3 that take 3 turns cooldown and only last for 1 turn. Most of the time it casts it and ally attack and protection gone. As if it is only useful to prevent your ally getting damaged by counterattack and that’s it. It is definitely a skill that needs some buff at least 2 turns or do something more like a heal… It got my vote for top 10 most useless skill…

  9. anonymous

what’s with all the masteries he only has one skill that requires ATK/ DEF or stats they others don’t say so can please redesign the masteries better

  10. Bill Hawk

I don’t mean to sound picky but, on this page, your Fellhound “Equipment Guide” for dungeons directly conflicts with your “Prerequisites” for the same category. Sorry to bring it up, but I’m easily confused. 🤪 🤣

Chofly recently put out a new video on Fellhound as campaign farmer with specific stats to hit when building. Might be nice to include in the video section.

  12. Joshua M.

Retaliation Set is not good for him anymore? I used it.

  13. Ayumilove Post author

@all: I have added a Fellhound Review section. Also, I have him tested at Level 60 (full gear, fully skilled, full masteries). Currently geared him with Stun Set to Crowd Control enemies and support the team in Demonspawn Faction Wars.

  14. Ayumilove Post author

@Paul Butler: I have replace that farming demo video with video from other content creator who explains on this strategy.

  15. Ayumilove Post author

@David San Gabriel: Fellhound can be use as a Tank Bait (neutral affinity) by having low HP (health aka hit points) so that the Spiderlings will target him. He will need to be equipped with Lifesteal Set and high amount of Resist stat (250 Resist and above) to resist those Poison debuff from Spiderlings. Also, he will need Retribution (Tier 5 Defense Mastery) and Warmaster (Tier 6 Offense Mastery) for him to recover quickly from his AoE A1 Attack.

  16. Ayumilove Post author

@fnōrd: Fellhound does not need to deal high damage but he plays the role of a tanker aka Spider Bait. This strategy revolves around having his HP (Hit Points aka Health) low enough in a way where each Spiderling attack will cause him to trigger the Retribution (Tier 5 Defense Mastery) to attack the enemies. When Fellhound is equipped with Lifesteal Set, he can quickly replenish his health through AoE attack (his A1 default skill). However, this can be made possible if he has Warmaster (Tier 6 Offense Mastery), which deals damage according to enemies MAX HP. The larger the MAX HP the enemy has, the larger the damage will be inflicted. Bigger damage means bigger heals for Fellhound to recover fast even though he deals very little damage at higher level dungeons. This strategy is commonly use for champions who has AoE attack on their A1 skill.

I have updated Spider’s Den rating from 5 to 4 Star since he could help carry the team by tanking the Spider attack at higher level dungeons but mainly relying on RNG (Retribution triggering), which has a chance to fail to trigger 3 times. He could be use to deal high damage from early-mid game but at higher stages will have limited usages. For other areas, I would use Stun Set to crowd control enemies, especially for higher level Faction Wars.

  17. Ayumilove Post author

@Wei Ying: Thanks for sharing your Fellhound masteries for Spider dungeon. I have added into the guide above. I have also added the videos you have recommended into the page above.

  18. fnōrd

In December (see earlier comments) you said you raised Fellhound’s rating in Fire Knight to 5 stars, but now in April I see it is 4 stars while his rating for Spider has 5.

IMO it should be 4 for Spider and 5 for Fire Knight. Fellhound is good through middle Spider. But not as good at high levels, where AOE damage can no longer be the whole strategy and you need turn meter control and high single-target damage. Meanwhile at Fire Knight, Fellhound’s utility goes all the way to the highest level, with his damage reflect helping just as much on level 20 as anywhere. Best of all to put him in a Stun set to help the team through the waves too.

  19. Paul Butler

No sound on the farming demo video

  20. David San Gabriel

Would this Champion be good against Spider 20?

  21. Anubis702

@Mojo817. Thanks bro. Wish there were more detailed info on this in the game. Appreciate the rapid response.

  22. Mojo817

@Anubis702, you have to select Keen Strike before Heart of Glory because Masteries need to connect to adjacent already unlocked masteries.

  23. Anubis702

Why cant I do my mastery tree like this? If I choose deadly precision I cant chose heart of glory. Am I doing something wrong?

  24. Khazou

@BRIAN : oh, you say its an average on both DEF and ATK then ? not just the best value of them ? thats a constraint, where you have to bring up both stats 🙁

  25. Brian

His damage is based on the average of his ATK and DEF based on my testing.

Or perhaps (.6x ATK plus .4x DEF) * (damage multiplier) – as DEF damage scales lower for attacks according to Plarium

  26. khazou

@Ayumi : not sure how this ATK works, its either the highest stat that is taken in account ? or the addition ? thx !

  27. Ayumilove Post author

@Foebiaen: Defiant increases Fellhound survivability by avoiding dangerous debuff especially Decrease Defense debuff. It’s either losing 75 extra Defense from Tough Skin by choosing Defiant or losing 647 Defense stat when being inflicted by a 60% Decrease Defense debuff assuming Fellhound is Level 60 with no equipment (1079 base defense x 60% Decrease Defense debuff = loses 647 Defense) by choosing Tough Skin. You could also use Resist to avoid being Crowd Controlled by enemy champion (e.g. Sleep, Provoke, Freeze, Stun, Fear) which Fellhound loses 1 turn too!

  28. Ayumilove Post author

@Grym Reaver: Fellhound deals damage using his A1 skill “Ravage”. This skill is based on either Defense or Attack stat. By increasing his Defense stats, it will increase his A1 skill damage and also increasing his survivability significantly since this champion is a Defense Role champion.

  29. Grym Reaver

I missed it I think, Why is defense stats a priority on fell hound?

  30. Foebiaen

Nice guides so far but why would you take ”Defiant” over ”Tough Skin” in the defense masteries?

  31. Mithlodel

Thanks for the advice, and cheers for creating such a great game resource!

  32. Ayumilove Post author

@Mithlodel: Yes, you can also use 3 Defense Sets too as long as your Speed stat is 112 and above to always begin the turn first as the attacker team. Fellhound base speed is 92, get him a Speed Boots (+40 Speed) or get the Speed stats from substats of all gears. Ensure he has 100% Critical Rate to deal additional damage from Critical Damage. You will need at least 150% Critical Damage and 4000 Defense Stats for 1 Hit Kill. Once you achieve this, you have transformed Fellhound to be a Speed Farmer (7 seconds Campaign Farmer)

  33. Mithlodel

Is it still best to go 2 defence sets if you’re using him as an xp farmer?

  34. Ayumilove Post author

@Shaaw: I have updated Fellhound ratings from 4 star to 5 star for Fire Knight 🙂

  35. Shaaw

He is a clear 5* on fire knight if you compare him to other rares and even epics. His A2 gives 100% uptime on reflect damage which guarantees 5 hits off the shield every time fk attacks. Throw in the slow debuff in his A1 and I’d say he’s a clear 5*.
