Cupidus Champion Lore

The Crimson Savior; the Arbiter’s Rose; the Rescuer. By these names and many more is the legendary knight of the Sacred Order best known as Cupidus widely called. Unnumbered are the tales sung of his history and exploits, and though most hold a kernel of truth at their core, most are little more than vague allegories or fanciful romances.

The most widely spun fable of Cupidus is the ode Liberation of Venus, one that has inspired many a young soul to join the Sacred Order. A thousand versions of this tale exist, but all begin with a woman of unimaginable beauty, best known to posterity as Venus. No mortal man could look upon her and not be consumed with lust and longing, and none became more besotted than a depraved sorcerer who had long sworn his allegiance to Siroth. Knowing he possessed not the charm or wit to rightly win Venus’ hand, he wove a dark enchantment to ensnare her – the details of its casting he took from a molding Skinwalker-leather tome, which had to be chained down to be read. The sorcerer’s efforts were successful. He lured Venus from her palace home and into his hilltop stronghold. The spell could not make her desire him, however, let alone induce feelings of genuine love.

Word rapidly spread that Venus had gone missing. Thousands of knights pledged their swords and steeds to finding her – many in the hopes she would marry them, others with no such expectation but no less determined to see her safe. But the sorcerer had concealed his route well, with numerous spells that threw packs of hounds into disarray, befuddled the minds of experienced trackers, and terrified war-scarred destriers. He had not counted on Venus’ faith, however. Few knights’ shared the strength of her conviction, and only one possessed the purity of heart to see and follow the invisible trail Venus’ unbreakable belief left in her wake. Cupidus. A warrior of peerless renown, prodigious bladesmanship, and pious humility. He found the sorcerer’s stronghold.

Ice-cold rain fell in sheets as Cupidus picked his way through clumps of razor-sharp rocks and tangles of tough, thorny vines to reach the stone keep in which he knew Venus was kept prisoner. Overhead soared dozens of three-eyed blackbills – the sorcerer’s spies. They saw Cupidus’ crimson plate armor gleam whenever a terrible lightning bolt shot down from the heavens and reported to the sorcerer, who realized he was discovered. He moved to kill the interloper knight. Hundreds were the beasts and servants the sorcerer had bound to his will, and he demanded the knight’s head. And so before Cupidus even reached the castle’s walls he was assailed by the sorcerer’s followers. With his sword, known to legend now as the Heart of Lumaya, Heartbreaker, and the Crux of Valor, he slew them all. Caked in gore and ichor, he reached the keep’s gate after filling the ditch before it with the corpses of those he had slain. He smashed the sealed entrance open with the head of a decapitated Skinwalker.

Within the stronghold were yet more of the sorcerer’s followers. Wolverines, poison-spitting death-adders and magically engorged rats. As the rain lashed down, blood flowed even faster. Some of it was the knight’s. Finally, Cupidus came to the sorcerer himself, though in this fight he would not stand alone. Venus, who had escaped her shackles and cell, was with him.

Dark magic swirled around the sorcerer, his black cloak billowing in the evil energy. He unleashed every ounce of his Siroth-given magic at Cupidus as more of his servants plunged into the fray. In the titanic clash that followed, the knight’s armor was rent by terrible claws. He was engulfed in violet flames and jagged blades pierced his flesh. But eventually Cupidus drove the Heart of Lumaya into the sorcerer’s chest. In the seconds that followed, the knight’s strength finally abandoned him, and he collapsed. Venus rushed to his side. As she knelt over the broken, dying form of Cupidus, tears streaming down her cheeks, the Rescuer swore his love for her would last forever, even if he could not. Venus promised the same.

The Arbiter saw and heard everything, so the bards sing. She could not bear to see such love be lost forever. After affixing the wings of a slain three-eyed blackbill to Cupidus’ helm as a symbol of his victory, she used her power to save the Crimson Savior and preserve him in a Shard. He has since earned his title on innumerable battlefields, his rose-colored armor a symbol of hope to the desperate and the lost.

Methodical is mentioned on text, but it is not shown on image, so do not use Methodical.

  2. Exar

    A very overrated champion.
Lack of DEF eliminates him from any serious PvP, unless you built specific team that covers his weakness, which is another hindrace to pick him. You can just take any DEF nuker that doesn’t need that much of a nanny (Nekhret) and mistress with a lash (Venus). It’s not a coincidence that all false hype comes only when you see Cupidus in their company. And ask yourself what are reasonable chances (for non whale) to have all 3 champs at disposal?

For PvE Cupidus is OK but that’s all, just OK. I happily replaced him with Artak for Heavy Spider and Hydra or even (50 lvl sic!) Akoth for lower tiers, which seems offending to Cupi – but works perfectly.

  3. Karbin

When is this page going to be updated with Cupidus’s new info after the buff. His A2 is now an AOE 100% HP burn when booked out with a 4.0 damage multiplayer, which increases his value exponentially. He can be used for damage or as a control champ by putting a stun set on him. I don’t have a Venus, but now I’ll always be hoping to get one just to move this great champ to an OP champ.

  4. eazy

cupidus needs to be updated on this site

  5. Money Moto

Is everyone here out of their minds? I regularly compete in platinum arena and I can say right now that Cupidus is the biggest cheater legendary in the game. The mfer should be in his own tier. He is not only S. He is so far beyond Z-tier I can’t even think of a high enough tier to place him.

You should be thanking your lucky stars for getting him. I would trade 10 of my S-tier legendaries for him right now. He is the end game legendary.

Take a look at the top placement for arena. Cupidus is generally on that team.

Having him and are complaining is like having a big dick and not knowing how to use it.

  6. Dera

Only of you have Venus, i don’t have her so cupidus still shit for all the update recently.

  7. sin

his new buffed version is amazing. he really needs to get an update here. if you have Venus too, you can easily one key hydra up to brutal.
    love his counter attack passive.

  8. sin

well it appears he is decent in hydra. so maybe some new information and build for there?

  9. Randall

Roberto, I know it’s late to respond to this, but for anyone else that wants to use this guy with mission 59, you CAN click a spiderling for his turn and it still counts. You just can’t take it off auto. What I do is to click on a spiderling, let it apply the A2, then click off of it after his attack. Do that a couple of times, and the spiders burn nicely. 🙂

While it’s not full hands-off, it does get you through the waves. Hope it helps someone!

  10. DeniedMachewMan

Okay for everyone saying hes bad at spider I can understand some problems that ur saying I don’t have him fully booked at all and I think you should save ur books on someone who really needs him cause I get my a2 off on auto with no books he’s a guy that once u get him he needs no books. I was kinda hard stuck around 16 dragon and ice golems and now I can 100 percent of the time beat drake only half ice golem though on 20 so save ur books and he will a2 the spider lol and that 33 percent attack if u have something to keep ur team alive on Spiders in god like I have skullcrown MMonster and cupidus and serris and a debuff remover for spider and I never lose on 16 sadly I need a gala to win it higher level which I’m working on leveling her up but Cupidus right now is my favorite leggo mostly cause he’s my first and I don’t even have venus he’s really good at wave clear when paired with a defense down I use him for arena to take out healers or revivals so just don’t book him unless u really really need to and have all the books to get him maxed booked for the cdr.

  11. Coco_Diliu

Nu mi-se pare o tragedie mare ca isi foloseste A2 pe auto la Spider …

  12. Roberto Gaerlan

Cupidus doesn’t use his A2 on the spiderlings on auto. This sucks!
You cant manual if your trying to complete the progress mission #59 where you have to beat them 10x on auto

  13. Jareel

I think he can really, REALLY shine with Venus, but without her… he’s really mixed bag for me. Maybe it’s support tree, that’s bad for him? The idea of using Retribution seems sound.

    Disadvantages:

    – A1 does relatively little damage
    – Low base defence, so relatively low staying power
    – Just the base 50% crit damage? Nothing extra? On an Attack legendary?
    – A2, Flames of Passion, is a very mixed bag until you start booking these +10% debuf chances… which isn’t the easiest task either. Also: No idea why it’s 4 turn cooldown without a way to book it down to 3 turns. How is A3 on a shorter booked cooldown than A2?! This makes no sense, especially given the randomness of this action (which is something you hate for Arena)
    – A3 (Flameout) needs a kill to bring the full potential, and it can struggle with that for an attack hero… plus it makes it borderline useless in dungeons, especially Spider on Auto, where it could shine if AI would pick spiderlings, but sadly: It’s always the mother spider…

    Advantages

    – Great base speed.
    – Manually controlled he can shine. Especially given how punchy that A3 is.
    – Doesn’t need *that* many books to be useful. Even just getting that A3 to level 3 makes a difference

  14. Slug

Hey mate, great site and very helpful! This champ you’ve rated 5 stars for Spider but I can’t make him be particularly useful on auto as he never uses his A2 on spider. He attacks the boss with his A3 and because he doesn’t kill it, he also doesn’t apply HP burn.

His A1 is useful at low spider levels to clear the small spiders, but later on he becomes quite useless in Spider.

Perhaps I am missing something but I would say he is 2 star or maybe 3 star for Spider. If you manually control him, he is 5 star as you can kill small spiders with his A3 and then apply multiple HP burn to burn the boss, and manually use his A2 which throws around a few extra HP burn, but on auto he just doesn’t seem to work at all.

  15. Mellifleur

I use him as an Arena nuker with Offensive and defensive masteries, going for Flawless Execution and Retribution. Outfitted in Lifesteal and Cruel with 4.1k attack, 99 CR, 240 CD he’s excellent. I can often 1 shot Duchess with his A3. If the other team gets a turn their nuker will often trigger a Retribution CA and then when his t urn comes around again he is mopping up stragglers. I don’t think the Support tree is optimal for him because his A1 is an AoE and Retribution with Lifesteal combined with that is very potent.

  16. Ri

    2 star in magic

  17. Hisig

    Faction war missing

  18. Shaaw

@SchitzMeSelf, its because @Ayumilove recommends lifesteal gear for everyone… Plus, those masteries are for everything, but he does say 2x Offense/Speed for arena/campaign/FWs…

  19. SchitzMeSelf

Why do you recommend using Lore of Steel mastery, if you recommend using Lifesteal gear?

  20. Daniel

    Thank You. Amazing site.
