Jingwon Champion Lore
Jingwon’s journey began as the son of a butcher, a modest start that seemed far removed from his eventual notoriety. During the Yakai Rebellion, his father was conscripted by the Mikage Autocracy as a cook for their armies, a role that Jingwon inherited upon his father’s passing. Thrust into this grim reality, he mastered the brutal skills of butchery to survive, learning to cleave flesh and carve meat while serving the infamous Mikage general, Zenshi the Talon. Zenshi’s ruthless campaigns devastated rebellious villages, hardening Jingwon’s heart as he bore witness to the atrocities committed under the Autocracy’s banner.
The rebellion’s fierce resistance pushed Zenshi’s forces to the brink. Ambushes disrupted supply lines, assassins targeted commanders, and terror gripped the troops. Desertion among the mortal soldiers became rampant, worsening the army’s collapse. As resources dwindled and Zenshi’s cruelty escalated, he issued a horrific order: cannibalistic decimation, demanding that one in ten soldiers be killed and eaten to sustain the rest. This repulsive command deepened the despair and anger among the starving troops, including Jingwon, who had never wanted to serve the Mikage.
The breaking point came during a tense council meeting where Zenshi, surrounded by his dwindling commanders, mocked the meagre meal Jingwon had prepared. Enraged and starving, Jingwon seized Zenshi’s war axe and severed his hand, a dramatic act of defiance that sparked chaos. When Zenshi’s lieutenants ordered the Human guards to seize Jingwon, the famished troops turned their weapons against their Demonspawn overlords. A ferocious battle ensued, and by its end, Zenshi’s loyalists lay dead or scattered. Jingwon, holding Zenshi’s bloodied helmet aloft, rallied the surviving mortals and led a revolt that transformed him from a reluctant servant to the rebellion’s newest leader.
Embracing his role, Jingwon wielded Zenshi’s axe and armour, with the severed hand nailed to the shield as a grim trophy. His rise continued as he became an enforcer within the rebellion, known for his cold efficiency in quelling internal conflicts. The hand became a chilling warning, deterring dissent among the ranks. Jingwon’s skill in battle and his unyielding resolve earned him respect and fear, solidifying his position within the rebel leadership.
Following the rebellion’s victory, Jingwon’s responsibilities expanded. Tasked with maintaining order in the fledgling kingdom, he eliminated threats to its stability, even among former allies. Zenshi’s severed hand remained a symbol of his authority, but Jingwon knew their conflict was far from over. He awaited the inevitable return of his old enemy, ready to claim Zenshi’s other hand and ensure the rebellion’s hard-fought legacy endured.
