Basim Ibn Ishaq Champion Lore
I can be an instrument that sees us out of this life.
A former street thief turned Master Assassin, Basim Ibn Ishaq’s journey is one of transformation and destiny. His mastery of stealth, sleight of hand, navigation, and assassination came from years of training with the Hidden Ones before they formally became the Assassin Brotherhood. Now armed with a new understanding of both the world and himself, Basim is a shadowy force to be reckoned with in the fight for justice and freedom.
The glare of the sun and the heat of the desert sand can drive anyone mad. Many a wanderer has been led astray by glimmering promises of water that turned out to be a mirage. Basim is wiser than most, however. After waking up in a desert he did not recognize, Basim set to work determining his whereabouts. He traced minute movements in the shifting sands, followed whispering winds, and soon found himself among a camp of people like him, called Nomads, in a very real oasis. After a few days of learning about the world from his newfound friends, another figure appeared, clad in white with a shining Hidden Blade discreetly attached to his wrist. Basim approached him, nodding towards the Hidden Blade and receiving a similar nod in return.
Basim suggested that he and the new arrival in camp, Bayek, needed to find a way home — their odds of survival were better as a pair. After talking with the Nomads, they learned of a port city to the south, Velyzar, where information could be bartered and brokered. On the journey, Basim and Bayek shared their stories of how they came to possess the Hidden Blade and what wielding it meant to them. They finally arrived in Velyzar after days of travel, where they were greeted by a man with the head of a goat, a magician conjuring parlour tricks for an impoverished crowd, and a party of graceful, fair-skinned and pointy-eared Elves.
Basim watched the struggle of those living on the streets. He knew their strife, their pain, and the possibilities denied to them. But Basim also knew that cities like this provided ample opportunity for those willing to take it. Basim and Bayek navigated the streets and market stalls of Velyzar, searching for any information that could help them return home. Eventually, both Assassins felt the pull of something they recognized. Something powerful. Something lsu.
It was hung from the hilt of a zealot masquerading as a religious savior, named Pontiff Augustin. A golden face-like flask with eyes of sapphire blue and brutal jagged defenses either side of its mouth. Basim and Bayek watched as the self-ordained Pontiff channeled the power into his hands, before bestowing ‘miracles’ on the sick and the poor of Velyzar. He proclaimed his divinity and was worshipped by the people, but in secret moments that Basim and Bayek observed from the shadows, he was desperate for more power. Basim theorized that there was more to this ‘Pontiff’ than met the eye. They watched as a flask that hung from his hip glowed whenever the Pontiff performed a ‘miracle’. It was all the confirmation Basim needed; the flask was lsu technology. This new knowledge served only to strengthen his resolve to steal it and safeguard it, maybe even use it to get the two of them home.
Basim had killed enough fools like Augustin: arrogance was his weakness, and patience was the key to his demise. He would wait for the perfect opportunity to strike.
