Bowf, once a dapper and witty Dwarven perfumer renowned for his mastery of fragrance, fell victim to a cruel twist of fate in the Age of Treachery. In his heyday, Bowf’s perfumes were the pride of the Skyiron Dominion, and his handsome, strutting persona matched his success. Yet, his pursuit of rare and exotic scents led to a disastrous encounter that changed his life forever.
It all began with an Elven noblewoman and a custom scent Bowf designed for her, unknowingly drawing him into her secret affair. When her enraged husband discovered the betrayal, he sought revenge — not against his wife’s lover, but against Bowf, whom he held responsible for stoking her vanity. A group of young Orcs, hired for the deed, hurled a live Aravian skunk into Bowf’s carriage, creating a caustic mix of his finest perfumes and the skunk’s noxious spray. In the ensuing chaos, Bowf underwent a horrifying transformation, becoming a Skinwalker with a striped black-and-white pelt and an even more unbearable stench.
Despite his new, rancid form, Bowf refused to accept his fate. With stubborn pride, he doused himself in cloying perfumes in a desperate attempt to mask his scent, all while maintaining the delusion of his former refinement. Townsfolk recoiled at his presence, and even fellow Skinwalkers pitied him from afar, unable to stand the overpowering stench.
Eventually, Bowf joined a network of Skinwalker resistance fighters, embracing their cause as a “diversion” from his grim reality. His chemical weapons, a mix of potent perfumes and his own secretions, became notorious in the fight against the Gaellen invaders. But as the tides of war turned, Bowf found an unlikely home among the remnants of Gaellen forces in the besieged City of Dreams, where, for the first time, his talents were truly appreciated.
Among the few who could stomach his presence was Scabrius, a fellow outcast and Skinwalker. Together, the two forged an unexpected bond and defied the odds, escaping the City’s final stand in a world that had long rejected them both. Thus, Bowf—the once-proud perfumer now known as “the Rancid”—carved out a strange, tragic path, refusing to let go of the gentleman he once was, even as his very existence became a living contradiction of scent and stench.
