Athel Review

Athel is a Rare Magic Attack champion from Sacred Order in Raid Shadow Legends. Athel is one of the 4 starter champions (Kael, Elhain, Galek) that you can select before you begin the game! He is renowned for his multi-hit attacks that is great for bringing down Fire Knight’s boss shield, amplify the amount of damage dealt by your team by applying Weaken debuff on enemy and she has the skill to boost her Attack and Defense up! Dark Athel is her successor who can be obtained through Daily Login Rewards and Ancient Shards, while the Legendary version, Supreme Athel, is summonable via Void Shards.

Strike Down (A1 Skill) is Athel’s default attack that can apply Weaken debuff on a single-target enemy, so your team can deal extra damage to the enemy. This debuff is useful against dungeon bosses and Clan Boss (Hydra and Demon Lord) to rack up high amount of damage score for better chest reward. It also hits the enemy 3 times, which is useful in removing Fire Knight’s boss shield quickly to deal direct damage to it!

Divine Blades (A2 Skill) is Athel’s AoE Attack that hits all enemies on the battlefield. This skill provides an additional 15% Critical Rate, which means having at least 85% Critical Rate on Athel allows him to deal critical damage to wipe out enemies instantly. All starter champions (Athel, Elhain, Galek and Kael) have this unique passive Critical Rate boost on their AoE attack to give them an edge among all Rare champions!

High Bessing (A3 Skill) is Athel’s signature self-buffing skill that applies Increase Attack buff to himself and grants an extra turn to perform another ability. If her health is low, it will also apply an Increase Defense buff to increase her survivability. When paired with her AoE Attack, it deals a massive amount of damage against her foes. This is useful when you do not have a dedicated support buffer to apply AoE Increase Attack to the team during the early game, which makes Athel useful for solo/duo clearing Campaign bosses to achieve 3 stars without requiring end-game gear.

Last but not least, she has a Health Aura that can be used in all areas, which is beneficial in raising your champions survivability early game. Overall, Athel is one of the best Rare champions that is worth taking to Level 60. Her role can be customized based on your game progression, either as a debuffer (early-mid game) or nuker (late game) until you found a better replacement for her such as Rhazin Scarhide upon completing the Champion Fusion.

Athel Full Review

Athel Purpose

  • Athel excels in all battles that includes solo campaign farming, raiding Dungeons and Clan Boss.
  • Her basic attack A1 “Strike Down” deals multiple attack to a single target, which gives her an edge in Fire Knight’s Castle where she can reduce the boss shield quickly, so your allies can deal the maximum damage to the boss.
  • In addition, “Strike Down” inflicts Weaken debuff to allow her allies to deal extra damage to her target. Weaken also improves the damage output of Warmaster and Giant Slayer (Tier 6 Offense Mastery)
  • Athel’s “Divine Blades” AoE (Area of Effect) skill grants additional chance of performing a critical hit to clear cluster of enemies with high damage, making it an easy work for both in Campaign and Arena.
  • Furthermore, she has “Higher Blessing” skill that increases her Attack and Defense simultaneously to inflict devastating damage against her enemies while protecting herself against imposing danger.

Athel Synergy

  • Athel is best suited in speed team setup especially Clan Boss (Easy, Normal and Hard). She is not great in team setup that heavily involves in speed tuning or Counter Attack. Reason being, her Higher Blessing skill grants an Extra Turn, which will remove both buff and debuff applied on her.
  • She is best paired with a champion who can inflict Decrease Defense debuff to the enemies and receives Increase Attack buff on herself before she nukes the enemies. This increases Athel’s final damage output significantly as an Attack role champion.

Athel Limitation

  • Athel is an excellent starting champion for early-mid game unless you have a better Epic or Legendary champion to replace her.
  • For late game, you will be replacing Athel with Rhazin Scarhide (Legendary Force Lizardmen Champion) who is obtainable through Champion Fusion.
  • Rhazin Scarhide is a much more powerful version of Athel as he can also perform 3-hit on his A1 and remove enemy’s buff simultaneously, applies both Weaken and Decrease Defense to allow your other champions to inflict more damage to the target and Decreases Turn Meter on multiple enemies. Furthermore, he is a Defense champion where the more tanky he is, the less damage he receive and more damage he can inflict to his opponents.

How to counter Athel?

  • Athel isn’t a big threat in Arena as she does not have any Crowd Control skills nor skills that could decrease the your champions efficiency in battle. However, you will need to watch out how she deploys her skills.
  • If Athel casts her “Higher Blessing” during the pre-emptive attack in Arena, it means that she does not have sufficient damage output to wipe out your entire team with “Divine Blades” alone. This gives you an upperhand in the battle where she could not use “Higher Blessing” to gain extra Defense buff when her health drops below 50%.
  • To achieve this, you will need to avoid your team getting Decrease Defense debuff from the enemy and taking out their Increase Attack champion before they buff Athel. Otherwise, she could easily comes back with her “Higher Blessing” skill to go for a Round 2 battle.

Additional Information

  • If you are a first time player and you’re here to find out who is the best starter champion for early-late game progression, I would highly recommend choosing Kael.
  • Kael helps you progress faster in terms of dealing high amount of damage against dungeon bosses especially Clan Boss. If you hit the damage threshold, you will be rewarded better daily Clan Boss rewards such as skill tomes, special equipment set and summoning shards.
  • The downside is you will have some difficult time working with Spider’s Den and Fire Knight’s Castle dungeon, which is crucial for farming late game equipment.
  • If you happen to get Athel from shards summoning, Athel can help tackle areas where Kael is having trouble with.

Athel Champion Lore

Athel grew up an orphan – one of many in the worn-torn world of Teleria. But her orphanage was no ramshackle hut or crumbling temple, like in most of the cities of Kaerok. No, Athel was raised in the Eternal Citadel, the beating heart of the Sacred Order. She was a foundling, having been anonymously deposited on the step of a minor side gate as a baby. It was there that she was discovered by none other than Godseeker Aniri, the prelate in charge of inducting new recruits. It was a relationship that would come to define Athel’s life.

Athel was an unusual acolyte for the Sacred Order. She was extremely adept at anything she put her mind to, and showed great promise in her religious studies, magical aptitudes, and combat training – some even called her a savant. Her skills earned her great praise, and when Aniri took on the title Godseeker and transferred to the Eternal Citadel — the Sacred Order’s cathedral-city — Athel was allowed to join her. But it was in the Eternal Citadel that Athel found herself in trouble, for she proved to be both willful and curious — a dangerous combination in the Sacred Order.

Athel asked too many questions of w laimed were ‘the wrong sort,’ and she refused to take their answers at t r made a statement, Athel needed proof of its veracity. But while the Ord . ing mathematics, arcanistry, or science was welcome… doing the sa topmost m OK l rical narratives? Such an act was unspeakable, even dangerous. While the Godseeker cared for the girl, she often punished Athel harshly – if only to protect her from even greater censure that might be demanded by the temple’s leadership.

Eventually, Athel found an unlikely ally in the form of Shamael, a fellow student — and the top of his class. She began working with him, training and drilling on a daily basis, quickly catapulting herself to the upper echelon of her own year. Athel’s appetite for knowledge soon blossomed into an all-out obsession… but it brought her into contact with answers that none in the Sacred Order were ready to face.

@Max: It’s recommended to focus on stats rather than sets when equipping your heroes for a particular role. Once you have farmed tons of gears and got lucky to find the suitable primary stats and substas for that particular artifact set, then you will be able to equip the champion with the non-broken sets.

  2. Max

Hello. Why in the example of setting you show in this page she has only one piece of regeneration set and only one piece of crit set? And i saw a similar things even in other example you made for other champions. This kind of sets aren’t thought for working in group of 4? I wasn’t aware that even only a piece of them might work! (i beg your pardon for the poor english, i’m not english at all)

  3. askyourgirlaboutme

This is an absolute biased ranking. This champion has nothing to offer compared to so many others.. I don’t think any champion that can only buff themselves and or Debuff a single opponent is far from S rank.. do not waste your time or books on her. There are much better rares with multi hit A1 that hit harder and also help the team. I can’t believe anyone with any experience in this game would have her anywhere but the vault. F2P or not that’s the most ridiculous excuse for a ranking I’ve ever heard. I’ll give anyone the benefit of the doubt when it comes to rankings but better than Kael? Haha she wouldn’t be on any squad of mine except fire knight for maybe the first 12 stages. Not Trash but this ranking is.

  4. Jade498

“He is renowned for his multi-hit attacks that is great for bringing down Fire Knight’s boss shield, amplify the amount of damage dealt by your team by applying Weaken debuff on enemy and she has the skill to boost her Attack and Defense up!”

    Athel is female, btw.

  5. Archer

This page refers to Athel as male lol, what’s that about?

  6. Scousethief

Athel is one of the best rates in the game. Depending on how your masteries are set she can double hit with her A2, that’s the first two waves GONE leaving only the 3rd wave for your other chars. This makes grinding campaign fast and easy.
I use mine in nearly all aspects of the game, the only rare I use more is Elhain because she can hit like a brick. Kael has different uses , Galek is the worst of the 4.

  7. Roger Huggett Jr.

Riceaxe, I started with Elhain and wouldn’t change a thing. I’m at the 215 day mark and she is still my campaign farmer. When I want a third magic nuker, she is right behind Kael and Big ‘Un. That said, I’ve never bothered to develop Ethal or Galek so I may be biased. In most situations I lead Deacon Armstrong, play 2 nukers based on affinity and Dutchess, Sclys, or Wythis/Delania based on affinty. Athel can’t make my Sacred Order roster. where Deacon, Roschard, Relickeeper, Godseeker and Mordicai keep her out.

  8. iSimpforArbiter

She’s my go-to and don’t regret one bit choosing her, absolutely the best. Just one thing; for the all-rounder I’m doing, chose Kill Streak over Stoked to Fury, believe it can give you better overall and more consistent value; could very-well be the scrublord in me talking ofc.

Again, many thanks for your hard work and huge help Ayumi, cheers!

  9. Riceaxe

If I had to start again I would be choosing Athel as my starter.
Her 3hit 100% weaken A1 is just too good everywhere, especially against Bosses, Fireknight and Demonlord.
She has the best Weaken placing A1 in the game despite being a rare and that on a 3time hitter maker her perfect for giantslayer.

I don´t use Kael at all anymore but would use Athel for Clanboss (for the advanced Quest requiring to use a rare)
So in a way I regret not having chosen Athel as my starter in hindsight.
Maybe as a new inexperienced player Kael is better but for someone restarting Athel seems to be the best out of the 4 to me.

  10. Roger Huggett Jr.

I finally got her as the last of the 4 starters 2 hours after I got Dark Athel which according to the summary is to replace her. Errrr!

  11. Ayumilove Post author

@Stephen Forest: You’re most welcome. Enjoy the game!

  12. Ayumilove Post author

@B: I would recommend using the provided Lifesteal Set artifacts, which is suitable for most starter champion to improve their survivability. If you have a dedicated healer for Sacred Order Faction Crypt, then you can swap Athel to other gears that has better stats.

  13. wat

Don’t get why people are getting so upset over a ranking. I have 2 accounts, one started with kael, one with athel. On the account with athel, I feel like she is better than kael for an all rounder until you start doing CB and other bosses.

Also for an account that is going to be f2p or not spend much athel is just the all around better champion that can do a little of everything. Kael is also great, they do similar damage and kael has his poison which is really good, but there are better easy to get poisoners that outshine him.

But that’s just an opinion from a nobody. Personal preference is key

Also I think athel should be a 2 or 3 star on netherspider. She can solo nether spider on easy with the right gear.

  14. B

Which artifacts specifically for faction crypt? 2 Offense, 1Speed?

  15. Stephen Forest

Your website is the absolute best that I’ve found when it comes to making decisions about Raid champions. Every statistic about the champion is there in an easy to read format.
I particularly enjoyed the YouTube video from Ash. He explained his thought processes very well, and I was glad to compare his build to mine. Needless to say, his build was WAY better than mine. So now I have just the information I needed to improve my play at RAID: Shadow Legends and I hope I can achieve a level that I can be proud of. Thanks for your great website.

  16. OdinsFrostGiant

maybe its just me, but I don’t see her as S rated. She has a limited lifespan and limited utility after mid-game. IMHO, she’s inferior to Kael who is rated as A ranked….. and Kael is viable through late game and arguably end game on a niche basis. I still use Kael frequently but Athel is in the vault and only used occasionally in faction wars. When you compare her to the other S ranked rates, she’s by far the least utility one. Personally, I’d switch her and Kael on the list. I’d put her, RT, Seducer and those guys on a similar tier… but none are real S tiered.

I do agree with the somewhat recent addition of Bellower as S. His 3 AoE attacks are special for a rare. Athol really doesn’t being a super special kit.

  17. RelativeNewbie

Pairing her up with, say, Rhazin Scarhide can result in a constant stream of Weaken + Buff Stripping + Giant Slayer. I don’t see why she necessarily needs to be *replaced* by Rhazin.

  18. fso86

Mark Mason, athel with or without masteries is still nothing more than a average rare champion, did you use athel everywere in your account?even in faction wars i have other champions better than her.

  19. Mark Mason

Anyone who gets on here just to complain about a grading of a champion should actually go off and start a site of their own so we can all go and tell them how bad their gradings are. Ayumilove actually knows what they are doing and when/if new information comes to light about champions they work it through and make alterations if neccessary. try palying long enough to get all the masteries on a champion before rubbishing the grading here, champions can change quite dramatically with all masteries.

  20. Ayumilove Post author

@MrShovel: Athel is an all-rounder champion, which makes her good in most areas in the game compared to Kael, whereas Kael is very good in specific areas such as Clan Boss, Ice Golem and Dragon. I used all 4 starter champions and based from the experience playing in a F2P account, Athel would be a good choice at the start too since Poison champions can be easily obtained by having Outlaw Monk during the early game.

  21. Ted

@fso86 she’s not as good as Kael but she’s far better than Galek, athel has a triple hit weaken which is good for fireknight, she’s easily second best starter, the only 2 starters I ever see in gold 4 are athel and Kael, Galek is a farmer that’s all he can do and not even efficiently.

  22. fso86

sorry but you’re really a fanboy, athel is even worse than galek, and you’re saying she is way better than kael?is this a joke?she is not even close to kael, maybe you had built your kael wrong….she is 3 star rating champion at everything, and this her true rating….

  23. MrShovel

You have a massive hard-on for athel. She is ass. I have all starters built out with the exact same gear, all booked and kael easily takes the cake. Athel has single target weaken and… nothing? Sad. You have a great site but this is more of a lie than the buffs that the void epics got. Athel is just wirse than kael, and you even recommend kael over her, so why is athel s-tier and kael not?

  24. Bob

@RadSpin I’m end game and I’ve 6 stared all the starters, from abilities and ultilties, it goes like this
    1st kael 2nd athel 3rd Elaine 4th galek
The reason kael shines is poison plus a hard aoe.
Athel has a triple hit weaken which is great in fk.
The other 2 starters don’t shine anywhere other than campaign, so kael and athel are better.

  25. RadSPin

How is Athel in S rank? I thought the gossip was that Kael was the best, Elhain second (And I still think elhain is better than Kael)

  26. Wunka

@Shura Indeed, one cycle of skills is 7 hits in 3 turns. By the numbers, Warmaster over 3 turns works out to slightly more damage than Giant Slayer over 7 hits on average, if no other factors are in play.

However, damage is capped in clan boss such that Warmaster and Giant Slayer hits do equal damage. Under this limitation, Giant Slayer does more damage on clan boss.

  27. Hope

So for athel to be good alround arena, campaign, cb and faction wars I should pick the first masteries? I really needed it as she is my only 6 star

  28. Shura

Warmaster over Giant Slayer, fight me. Athel use a lot Divine Blades in both manual and auto, along with Higher Blessing to drop the cooldown. She will always use Divine Blades if its off cooldown and the boss is already weakened.

Many times does auto go: A2 -> A3 -> A1 -> A2, 2 times Divine Blades in 3 turns. Giant Slayer is only really strictly better then Warmaster for Athel if you manual.

  29. vroblox

@Ayumilove: Thanks for the update! I feel like a lot of people get discouraged when a champion isn’t performing up to standard because they do not have the masteries completed for that certain champion. I had a hard time with Athel until I completed the masteries and she completely changed the game for me. Maybe even throwing in an extra tab saying they need to be fully mastered for them to jump up to an S tier champion. Basically all champions drastically improve once you fully complete their masteries but a lot of people do not realize this until about mid game or later.

  30. MinotaurMaggie

    She’s clearly a 5s hero. Thank you.

  31. Pro

    Thanks for the update! 🙂

  32. Shane

@ayumilove Yes that worked, that’s what happens when I leave the tab open for like a year on my phone. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  33. Ayumilove Post author

@Shane: I’m viewing the picture as Giant Slayer rather than Warmaster. Try performing a force clear Internet Browser cache (CTRL+F5) to view the latest changes for this page.

  34. Shane

@ayumilove doing the mastery for arena, campaign, etc I noticed u have #10 as giant slayer but the picture shows warmaster. I browsed through the thread quick and didn’t see if this was brought to your attention yet. Thank your for this website it’s awesome.

  35. Ayumilove Post author

@scott simmons: 25% Weaken provides additional damage to all attacks to the enemies and this also include Warmaster and Giant Slayer attacks. You may not see the benefit now, but once you get those masteries for your team, it will improve your damage a lot. In late game, you will need Weaken and Decrease Defense to deal the maximum amount of damage to the enemy especially for Clan Boss, along with Poison debuff. I have used all 4 starting champions (Galek, Kael, Elhain and Athel) for a long time and based from those experiences results in the rating above. If Athel does not work well for you, you could try checkinng whether your equipment and the team synergy is compatible with Athel for that particular area.

  36. Ayumilove Post author

@qiAlex: I think it’s a skill description typo on my side. The in-game shows “Higher Blessing” for 5 turns skill cooldown. After booking that skill, it will lower the skill cooldown to 4 turns.

  37. CYS, MD

Dear AYUMILOVE: I think that after reading your site everyday for >6 months I do see the precision and poetry in your ratings. I trust your guidance as I have seen you base your recommendations on empirical evaluations that you have personally experienced over many, many game scenarios. Also, I appreciate when something changes either in your perspective from game updates or possibly after new information comes to light from others game play; that your ego is secure and intact, and you will recommend a change. You are not in any way hurt or bothered by new and useful information but welcome it. I do thank you for tolerating unmitigated rude comments/attitudes/opinions from others who possibly have not yet seen thus do not yet know of what you are talking about. Most of us have not yet seen true end game situations with fully booked/scrolled/armed and charmed appropriately champions. Thus, I think this lack of game experience thus lack of understanding and game frustration are the true basis of these uncomplimentary statements. I have yet to see anyone write, “Oh, Dude, sorry for what I said when I was an ignorant newbie. I get it now.” Still waiting for that one. I did also want to add that many others who are very game savvy and do absolutely know, with their own channels, discord, youtube, etc…also all agree with you on this Athel, in particular, as this is what we are discussing now. Thanks again for all of your efforts. I and many others are truly grateful for all of your time, energy, effort, etc…etc…that you have so generously shared.

  38. scott simmons

Sorry, but you have a serious Fanboy crush on Athel. To rate her five stars on everything is just ludicrous. Her 25% weaken is not that good. That seems like the one reason you are giving her such insanely high ratings. I think she is very useful but not even close to as good as you do. No one else seems to agree with you either. Are you just one person or are there multiple contributors to the site? I think your site is really useful but I hardly take it as gospel.

  39. qiAlex

it feels like there is a bug with upgrading “Higher Blessing” skill. it is 4 turns initially after upgrading it is still 4 turns.

  40. Ayumilove Post author

@Urtoroth Lobopálido: Athel will do much more damage against high defensive champions with Cruel Set. Early-Mid game is not so useful since most of the enemies have low base Defense.

  41. Urtoroth Lobopálido

Hm, would her performance increase with Cruel set?

  42. Sigfod

DMAC, I have the same issue for all my sacred order champions.

@Kenneth Leikur: I have tested both Kael and Athel at Level 60 fully ascended before coming to this rating conclusion.

This has to be wrong. I have her geared and leveled up. She is good, but still far from top Rear. Kael is better for sure in all regards. And several others are more usefull most places in the game (Coldhearth, warmaiden, Bellower etc). And even for faction you will probably have better epics. So do not see how this rating is fair.

  46. HellBaker

Sorry, I Just cant agree with this ratings, Athel is far from perfect score for CB, i dont think she is able to use after normal CB, she has only one AOE, which makes her not best choice for Spider and campaign, has no poison on it, then also not good for dragon. Dont take me wrong, she is very useful, i got her max, she’s the second best starter (behind Kael).

  47. Jesper Nielsen

Athel’s A3 has a cooldown of 5, bookable to 4, making it effectively a 3 turn CD with the extra turn.

  48. Alioch

    hi,

i was wondering how giant slayer works on aoe spell. can it proke on multiple ennemy with one spell ? (Athel A2 in that case).
i’m not sure if i’m going warmaster or giant slayer with mine.

I built her as a aoe nuke (crit-att%) with lifesteal gear and she is my 2cd dmg dealer in arena and clan boss.
she got no poison but because of her reset she can land her A2 every 2.5 turn. adding some nice dmg over time.
and i have not viable option for weaken debuff in CB as she got a 100% chance and no epic i got have that.

    love your work

@nipscrew you may want to read again, the description says she is not suited to speed team ups. “ She is not great in team setup that heavily involves in speed tuning or Counter Attack. Reason being, her Higher Blessing skill grants an Extra Turn, which will remove both buff and debuff applied on her.”

  50. dani

why is is better than other start up characters?

  51. Nipscrew

@Ayumilove – Thank you so much for these awesome guides. I do have a question. I am a newbie. (lvl 36) You mention that “She is best suited in speed team setup”. Could you maybe suggest some Champions that fit this bill from the rare and/or epic champs. There is so many to go through and its a bit daunting. ^^ Thank you in advance.

  52. Slot machine

    @Ayumilove I think Athel is a women

@Puttnam: I would highly recommend replacing Apothecary with a champion that can provide higher survivability for your current Clan Boss team. Champion who provides 60% Increase Defense, 15% Continuous Heal, Remove Debuff, Block Debuff buff would be much better. Next, I would replace Kael with a better Poisoner that can always place 5% Poison debuff or a debuff extender.

  54. Puttnam

I currently run with Martyr (lead/unbooked), Apoth (ik ik, not ideal but I need him atm) Zavia (GS) Tayrel, and Kael. My question is should I GS Athel and replace Kael with her or should I master one of my current CB team members instead.

  55. Union

@Ohboy: Lifesteal is a 4 piece set. So you won’t have space for the 3rd.

  56. Ohboy

    Hey,
1 set missing for clan boss and dungeons
You only put “1 lifeststeal and 1 accuracy”
    What’s the 3rd?

  57. Foebiaen

Well, I just see you did already answer this on the comment below. ^^)
I am pretty new at this game and was just wondering why I should build her Defense/HP but I think I’m getting your point. Thx for your quick response! 🙂

  58. Ayumilove Post author

@Foebiaen: DEF%/HP% increases Athel’s survivability in higher level dungeons and Clan Boss. You bring her in for her Weaken debuff, so the rest of your champions in your team can deal extra damage Warmaster or Giant Slayer (Tier 6 Mastery). However, this equipment setup is suitable for Attack Debuffer Role champions. If the Attack Role champion who is purely raw damage similarly to Relickeeper, then that champion should be geared for full Attack, Critical Rate and Critical Damage.

  59. Foebiaen

One question. Why did you put DEF%/HP% on gauntlet and chestplate slot at Clanboss/Dungeons instead of Crit&/Crit Dmg. and ATK% ?

  60. Ayumilove Post author

@Saurinks: Yes, you are right. Clan Boss (Hard, Brutal, Nightmare, Ultra Nightmare) and Dungeons (15-20), the monsters and boss inflicts heavy damage and its difficult for squishy champions especially Attack Role champions to survive since they have low base Defense and HP. Healers would have a difficult time to keep up healing as they will have approximately 3 turns of cooldown to recover (2 turns cooldown for some Legendary champions).

  61. Saurinks

Nice job for all your guide. I understand a little bit the gear’s changment for CB and Dungeons. If we clean higher stages it’s better to have defense or hp than dealing damage and beeing squichy. Am I right ?

  62. Yuber8f

Athel has a 3 hit A1 which means means Giantslayer which means Kael cant hold a candle to Athel.

  63. Ayumilove Post author

@Shaaw: For the first statement, I do know there are tonnes of champions that provide Weaken debuffs and other benefits. However, Athel is one of the accessible Rare champions that provides 25% Weaken 100% uptime, which significantly increases the damage output of the overall team in Clan Boss especially in Speed Meta Team when everyone has Tier 6 Masteries compared to Kael. I have already tested it with both fully skill-booked Level 60 Athel and Level 60 Kael for Easy, Normal and Hard Clan Boss. When players is able to reach Brutal Clan Boss, they will have some resources to complete the Rhazin Scarhide Fusion (Legendary Champion) who will provide both 25% Weaken and 60% Decrease Defense. At this time, Athel will be replaced by Rhazin Scarhide and the Legendary Books obtained from Event can be used on him.

By the time you reach at Brutal Clan Boss stage, you could come across better Epic/Legendary champions that also outclass Kael in terms of Poison too (similar to what you have pointed to Athel). Good Poisoner champions that are listed in this page: https://ayumilove.net/raid-shadow-legends-poison-skill-champions/ You would want to put as many 5% Poison Debuffs rather than 2.5% Poison Debuffs from Kael A1 (Primary Ability).

Although Kael can put up as many as 4 5% Poison debuffs, occasionally he only puts 1~2 5% Poison Debuff based from my observation from many runs with Kael in Dragon Dungeon 20 when completing the Dragon Tournament Event and Clan Boss. Athel’s Higher Blessing is a double-edged sword. Therefore, its best to use Athel in teams that is in Speed Meta Team (full speed to go as many rounds) as recommended in the guide above. It would be detrimental to put her in teams where you need to Speed Tune her in Counter Attack, Unkillable, Block Damage, etc. I do check the major RAID Shadow Legends Youtubers playing Kael/Athel and also done my own experiments with these 2 champions.

In short, both Kael and Athel are top Rare champions for early-mid game but will be outclassed by Epic/Legendary champions in late game once you get a better champion than them.

  64. Shaaw

@Ayumilove: For starters, I love your site, lots of useful information. That being said…

You are out to lunch if you think Athel is better than Kael. There are TONNES of champs that provide weaken debuffs, and alot of them provide the weaken debuff as well as other benefits. Anyone who has reached the point where they are bringing 5x fully masteried champs to the CB is rarely bringing a champ to ONLY weaken and nothing else. There needs to be another upside to it. You say in your own review she’s suited for easy normal and hard CB… She really tapers off fast at brutal+… That, and by the time you reach that level of CB that you are carefully tuning your debuffs, you are almost guaranteed to have a variety of epic/lego champs at your disposal that outclass Athel.

While Kael doesn’t provide weaken, he can lay poisons down like few other champs in the game. Its not unheard of for Kael to have 4-6 separate poison stacks running simultaneously on CB, giving him utility into nightmare CB runs.

Separate from CB, Kael’s poison provides more consistent damage boost straight from early to late game for Dragon, Ice Golem, and Spider.

Kael also is clearly the superior option in almost all arena teams. Athel may be able to boost her own atk, but its only 25%. This means that once you pass the extremely early arena game (I’m talking once you reach Bronze III-IV, most people are sporting some type of champ that boosts ALL champs with 50%, such as Spirithost. Why do you think it is that Bronze III-Silver IV is packed fully of mirror matches of: Spirithost lead, Warmaiden, Kael, and a turn meter manipulator (Apothecary, Seeker, Executioner, etc).

Further to that, the higher blessing skill is actually a huge detriment for most mid-late game builds because it reduces any and all buffs placed on her by a turn. This throws off the synergy in almost all lineups. Any shields, def+, un-killable, counterattack, block damage, speed up, buffs that are very commonly used don’t line up with the rest of the team leaving her vulnerable.

Athel is a great single champ carry for early game, she does pretty good at campaign farming though not at record speeds, but her utility tapers off really fast once you start having full teams that synergize with each other. This is especially true if you want to be able to take down CB/dungeons on auto, because her extra turn just throws off everything.

I understand you probably have a bit of a fanboy thing going for Athel, but if you need more that just my word, take literally every single major Youtuber playing this game who ALL say Kael is a top champ that can have utility well into late game, compared to Athel who does not make any of the “best rare” lists.

On a separate note, why would you want warmaster over flawless execution for arena/campaign/faction?

  65. Ayumilove Post author

@Sicran: Athel is much better than Kael since he provides Weaken debuff. Weaken allows all of your team members deal extra 25% damage. This damage maybe quite small when you have a team without Tier 6 mastery such as Warmaster and Giant Slayer. However, you will see a significant amount of damage produced once all of your team has that mastery. It helps much more in a Speed Clan Boss Team (lots of Speed Buffer champions and Debuffers). Kael deals a lot of damage when dealing against higher end Clan Boss alone but does not increase the overall team damage significantly.

  66. Sicran

@ayumilove I dont think athel is 5 starts clan boss, kael has the same start but they are not at the same level… Kael a lot better for clan boss than athel. You should redo the star ranks harshest because a lot of people is influenced by your reviews… (maybe add more stars, you should know better)

PS: you still doing a great job thanks a lot. respect!

  67. Rob

Thanks for the review, I wish you would give them your personal touch like that. I know it’s a lot. Or if you like them or not (: thanks for everything you do.

The image for the ATHEL MASTERY GUIDE > ARENA, CAMPAIGN, FACTION WARS shows the wrong last mastery… you say Warmaster but you selected flawless execution 😉
