GMS v.149 – Legacy of Nine (2014-05-12)

GMS v.149 – Legacy of Nine Update Highlights (2014-05-07)

MapleStory’s 9th Anniversary month has arrived, and that means it’s time to get this party started! Check out the brand new Soul Weapon system and enter the Murgoth Dungeon… if you dare. Enjoy updates to older content, rebalances to several classes, and a soiree of sweet new events. Read on for the full rundown.

SOUL WEAPONS
Use the new Soul Weapon system to convert regular Lv. 75+ weapons into Soul Weapons. Fight bosses to gain Soul Shards, which you can use to fuse a boss’s soul into your weapon. Each soul grants a different skill to your weapon. You can only have one soul fused to your weapon at a time, but it can be removed or replaced. When you hunt monsters with your Soul Weapon, it charges the Soul Gauge; once it’s full you can use your weapon’s special skill.

MURGOTH DUNGEON
Enter the Murgoth Dungeon (Lv. 75+) during the event time and hunt for Soul Shards in 1v1 or 3v3 Party Mode. The dungeon’s monsters represent the five main classes of MapleStory, and the amount of damage you inflict upon them is dependent on your class. Clear the room and open the treasure box, which can give you Soul Shards or helpful items.

GUILD SYSTEM OVERHAUL
Maplers have been building communities through the Guild System for years, and now it’s time to make guilds even better. With the new, streamlined Guild UI, you can search for existing guilds, request membership or create your own. In addition, the max Guild level has been increased from 10 to 25, and there are now even more ways to collect Guild Contribution Points. Several new Guild Skills have been added, including Noblesse skills only accessed by participating in the new Flag Race event.

LION KING’S CASTLE: ROSE GARDEN
Players Lv. 110+ can use the El Nath taxi to journey to Lion King’s Castle. Once there, visit the Rose Garden, now blanketed by a mysterious blizzard, and eliminate the monsters that prowl there. Complete quests and daily jobs to earn Ifia’s Jewelry Set.

CLASS SKILL REBALANCING
Several character classes have received various skill rebalances, including Mihile, Mechanic, Bow Master, Demon Avenger, Wild Hunter, Demon Slayer, Mercedes, Kaiser, Evan and Kanna.

CASH SHOP CHANGES
Some changes are coming to the Cash Shop-just one of the many ways we’re giving thanks to loyal players like you. Pets and pet equips are being updated, allowing your pets to learn permanent skills. Electronic Hearts and some other items are being moved from the Cash Shop to NPC shops, where they’ll be available for purchase with mesos. Best of all, a new cubing device, the Hermes Cube, is being made available exclusively outside of the Cash Shop through an upcoming event for equipment Lv.99 and below. This is only the beginning of the many changes we have in store for the Cash Shop, so stay tuned.

ZOMBIES!
The zombies have risen! STAR Zombies and Howlers are on the loose, and monsters have a chance to drop contaminated mesos. If you pick them up you will become infected – eventually becoming a zombie! As you succumb to the virus and undergo its various stages, you will gain different stat boosts. Not a fan of being undead? Track down the vaccine and use it to cure yourself. Depending on which path you choose, you’ll receive a different zombie-themed Android.

OTHER EVENTS
The Anniversary fun never ends! The 9th Anniversary Coin Shop is being updated with new items, and will also be extended through June 24. Enjoy even more events, such as The Great Pipsqueak Zakum, where you compete against the titular baddie in an intense Rock-Paper-Scissors battle for awesome prizes like the White Mage Snowfield Mount. Take part in the Get Your Own Mustache attendance event to earn a daily mustache for your character.

The celebration rages on, so be sure to check back here for more updates!

Soul Weapon System

Soul Weapons

A Mysterious Magician has appeared in town and brought with him the power of Soul Weapons! Soul Weapons give the player the ability to power up their level 75+ weapons with extra benefits, as well as the possibility to summon a boss. Your weapon gains in strength when damaging enemies. Your weapon is able to summon a boss when equipped with a Boss Soul.

Players are able to turn their weapons into a Soul Weapon by using a Soul Enchanter. Enchanters can be obtained from the Murgoth event and from hunting monsters. There are 3 different power levels for Soul Enchanters, but even the weakest one still has a 30% completion chance. Don’t worry if it fails though; your weapon is perfectly safe and you can always try again. A Soul Weapon, with or without a Boss Soul equipped, gains power when damaging enemies. When your Soul Weapon gauge is full, you are inflicting as much damage as the Soul Weapon can give you.

When fighting boss monsters or when taking part in the Murgoth event, you have a chance to collect a Soul Shard. Once you collect 10 of the same Boss Soul Shards, double-click on the stack. Murgoth will appear and trade you the stack for a whole Soul. Each boss has a different amount of souls, and you will randomly be given one.

If you are able to get a Boss Soul you have 2 options. You can place the Boss Soul into your weapon, or add it to Murgoth’s Soul Collector book. A full collection of souls will reveal a hidden picture of the boss in the Collection Book. The link for the Soul Collector book is found in the Soul Weapon gauge. The gauge only appears if you have a Soul Weapon equipped. Even if the boss is not currently found in the book, don’t throw it away! The book has a lot of room left to be expanded in the future. Also don’t worry about placing the wrong Boss Soul on your weapon. A Soul Weapon does not have a limit on how many Boss Souls you can place in it. Of course, only the latest Boss Soul’s enhancement is in effect.

Boss Souls

  • There are 2 power classes for Boss Monster Souls:
    • Magnificent Souls: Require level 100 + weapons, give the weapon a random potential and summon a more powerful version of the boss.
    • Normal Souls: Has one of many different prefixes to the soul such as Beefy, Potent, etc. which determine stat increase and require level 75 + weapons.
  • Bosses that have souls – Spirit of Rock, Prison Guard Ani, Dragon Rider, Rex, Mu Gong, Pianus, Black Slime, Ephenia, Cygnus, Von Leon, Arkarium, Pink Bean, Magnus, Balrog and Xerxes.

Summoning a Soul Weapon’s boss uses points. The points are collected by damaging and defeating monsters. Each Boss Monster Soul has a different summon. Summons take different amounts of points from the Soul Gauge. Some of the summons give you a buff, some summon the boss in a devastating attack and some even cause the boss to fight for you in a limited amount of time. Keep an eye on the Soul Gem floating above your head to let you know when the boss is ready to be summoned again.

If you want to remove the awesome power of souls from your weapon, talk to the Mysterious Magician. He can be found in many of the more popular towns throughout Maple World.
