* Attention: Click here for the latest MapleStory Pirate Skill Build Guide *

MapleStory Adventurer Pirate Job Selection Pirate is one of MapleStory Adventurer Jobs which has 2 professions you can choose in 2nd Job Advancement : Corsair (uses guns) and Buccaneer (uses knuckles). Both professions equip the same armor. Primary stat is DEX (Dexterity) and secondary stat is STR (Strength). You can become a Pirate by requesting Kyrin for guidance. She is the Pirate Job Instructor located in Nautilus Harbor. Pirates are blessed with outstanding dexterity and power, utilizing their guns for long-range attacks while using their power on melee combat situations. Gunslingers use elemental-based bullets for added damage, while Infighters transform to a different being for maximum effect.

Pirate Job Advancement

Pirate → Gunslinger → Outlaw → Corsair (Captain)

You can switch to either Somersault Kick or Double Shot but its recommended to go for max Double Shot. Reason being, Pirate’s health is considerably low and if you train on high level monsters that has high EXP reward, their bump damage is severe and can easily kill you in 3-4 hits. Therefore, to be on safe side of not dying and losing EXP plus train conveniently without having to be close to monsters to attack, use Double Shot for any professions you will be taking for Pirate 2nd Job Advancement! If you plan to use Somersault Kick in the beginning, equip a polearm/spear instead of gun/knuckle to increase the skill attacking range!

Finally, start maxing Double Down (to gain double effect from Roll of the Dice), Buccaneer Blast (best mobbing skill when charged), Typhoon Crush (ignores enemy defense) and Dragon Strike (use this while charging up for Buccaneer Blast) after maxing all the damage enhancer skills. 1. Jerron

Hey you should max corkscrew blow instead since it links with the 3rd job spiral assault.

  2. V

Glad the Bucc primary stat got clarified to be STR. People would go crazy if they cubed (i.e., gambled $$$) to get high %STR potential and Bucc primary stat changed! You scared me a LOT there…

  3. Von Elscud

@ justin ; imo, it is ‘okay’, except that, compared to Blunderblast (BB), you won’t spam Blackbootbill (BBB).
even till 4th job, you will only, and only, use BBB to knockback mobs and combo with 8-legs easton (ELS), and not really for the damage. BB on the other hand, is used in so many more occasion.
-it have a little bit more horizontal range than BBB.
-BBB is favored over ELS in the case of fighting lower level mob (quests / PQs perhaps?) since ELS have darn long animation.
-vertical range for BB = love. at a definite platform, you can kill mobs at point blank ; you are invincible.

  4. Tom

ayumil there is a quest for both for cosair and bucc to get the ship and transform. they are now mounts

  5. justin

what if i max my blackboot bill???

  6. criticaltiupixelpillage

Is this still up to date?

Thanks Perse for the correction! I have updated the max levels for Admiral’s Wings, Stun Mastery and Precision Strikes from Level 20 to Level 10.

  8. Perse

Admiral’s Wings, Stun Mastery and Precision Strikes maxed levels seems to be lowered to 10 in GMS

  9. Ayumilove Post author

Hi NIgggwak, could you hover your mouse on that skill icon and check what is the Master Level? Master Level refers to the max level that the skill can achieve. Example, Level 30 is the Master Level of Sharp Eye (Bowman 4th Job Skill).

  10. NIgggwak

can you update this please im not sure if you did or didnt
i recently became a fan of your website. i play kms and i was on my captain and fullaside was maxed a 10 so do i need to buy a mastery books or did the patch that just came out lower their max level

  11. Domers

As what you’ve suggested, I went to Khaini Free Market I noticed that Corsair (Guns) primary stat is DEX and Buccaneer (Knuckle) primary stat is STR. This clarifies my issue. Hope it helps the others. :)

  12. Ayumilove Post author

Hi Domers, check the weapon requirement stat. Does it require strength and dexterity? If yes, it needs both. Stop by at the freemarket and check the high level weapon knuckle and see their stat. Buccaneer stat is based on the weapon requirement. If its only STR, then you should add to STR (Strength). If its DEX, then all into DEX. If its a mix, you need to add both sides. I’m not sure for Pirates since they have a melee (Buccaneer) and range (Gunslinger). Let me know the result. :)

  13. Domers

What is the primary stat for buccaneer? I’ve read other guides saying that STR is the primary wherein yours is DEX. I want to auto allocate my AP and the game recognizes all should be in STR. Could you clarify this to me? I recently had my Ultimate Adventurer and I chose Buccaneer because of the card skill. I don’t want to have a wrong build so please help me out. :)

  14. Kanna Karma

ayumi update some icons i noticed octo punch’s icon is not yet updated

Hi Anzu, the last time I played Brawler is that each attack charges a bar (invincible/hidden bar?) and then you will have this energy aura popped out after charging enough.

  16. Anzu

This probably sounds stupid, but does the energy charge doesnt need to be activated like a buff in order to charge it?

  17. boy

    couldnt find viper beam anywhere

Hi Dylan, currently MapleStory Developer have not come up with Buccaneer New Skills yet, so its difficult to determine which to choose.

  19. Dylan

Should I get buccaneer or thunder breaker for striker when they’re revamped?

Hi Jing Xun, I thought that the Super Transformation Skill has been removed upon reaching Tempest Update?

  22. Reaperzz

Can i ask that is viper good for bossing or captain?Because i heard that viper most skill are bossing damage?

Hi BoxBreaker1, you will need to reach 4th Job (Level 100 with Tempest Update) and do a little leveling to unlock them. Certain Hyper Skills unlocked at a specific level which you can refer based on this guide and the HyperSkill Guide. If you’re on that same level and its still locked, it means that GMS has not release the HyperSkills for those job yet.
