MapleStory Hoyoung Skill Build Guide

MapleStory Anima Thief HoyoungMapleStory Hoyoung (메이플스토리 호영) is one of MapleStory Anima Thieves who specializes in fan weapon to attack enemies with a combination of magic and martial arts. Hoyoung, a disciple of Taotist Sage, left his home after accidentally releasing the ancient evil god, Taotie, from his sealed prison. Now, he embarks on a journey to right his wrongs, sealing away evil spirits and maintaining the balance between realms. Hoyoung’s combat style blends traditional magic from the Taoist teachings with swift, acrobatic attacks using his fan. He uses Talisman Energy to unleash powerful abilities, and Scroll Energy to activate advanced magic techniques, allowing for versatile and fluid gameplay. Hoyoung can switch between different modes using his three primary attributes: Sage: Clone for multi-attack capabilities, Sage: Taotie for devastating strikes, and Sage: Heaven for powerful crowd control. KMST (Korea MapleStory Tespia) released Hoyoung on July 18, 2019, KMS official release on August 1, 2019, MSEA official release on November 20, 2019, and GMS official release on December 4, 2019.

Hoyoung Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Beautiful Animations: Hoyoung’s skills are flashy, with vibrant, engaging visuals that make every battle feel dynamic and enjoyable.
  • High Mobility: Speedy movement lets you dodge attacks, traverse large maps quickly, and keep up the pace in both mobbing and bossing.
  • Strong Mobbing: Excellent area-of-effect skills allow for efficient mob clearing, ideal for leveling quickly on large maps.
  • Versatile Combos: His talisman and scroll combo system gives flexibility in combat, adapting to different scenarios in both mobbing and bossing.
  • Easier Bossing: Less prone to animation lock during critical moments, making boss fights smoother than more complex classes like Cadena.
  • Underrated Class: Hoyoung excels when fully optimized, but his potential is often overlooked, making him a rewarding choice for dedicated players who invest in trinodes and high-level equipment.

Cons

  • Busywork: Hoyoung requires constant attention to cooldowns and rotations, making the class feel like non-stop micro-management.
  • Weaker Skills Between Cooldowns: During cooldown periods, you’re stuck using weaker early-job skills, which interrupts flow and reduces damage output.
  • Button Mashing: Requires frequent inputs, which can feel overwhelming or tiring for players seeking a more relaxed playstyle.
  • Combo Complexity: Hoyoung’s combos are strict, requiring precision and memorization, which can be tough for new players or those not used to combo-heavy classes.
  • Gauge System: Managing his double-gauge system (talisman and scroll) takes practice, especially when buffs drop mid-boss fight, adding a layer of complexity to combat.
  • Heavy Keybinding: A lot of skills need to be keybound for efficient play, leading to clutter and making it hard to find the right balance on your keyboard.
  • Boost Node Dependence: To maximize Hoyoung’s potential, significant investment in boost nodes (trinodes) is necessary, especially for higher-tier bossing and damage output.

When will this be updated? Love this site and Ayumi itself and I would love to see this build on!

  5. RebootJay

This class is fun to train to 140, especially 4th job. They are stronger than average as well. There is a small learning curve with mobbing at 4th job but once you get it down, its game on!

  6. Adriaan

The attacks are slow and not so efficient. It kaes a second after the best first job skill before ypou can pick up drops, rather annoying that is.
