FIREPOWER Update Highlights (2015-06-30)

Experience the full blast of summer with the FIREPOWER update: Become an Icy Agent or Hot Agent and team up receive maximum rewards! Get Ready to rock with the sixth chapter of FriendStory. Explore two new regions – the mysterious Blackaget City and the Scrapyard, location of the crashed Black Heaven. Check out two new mini-games in Star Planet, and see what you can create in Beefy’s Kitchen. All this, and the Beast Tamer is back and available for character creation for a limited time!

FIREPOWER: Hot and Icy

Become a Hot Agent or an Icy Agent based on your login activity level, and participate in tons of summer events! Each agent type receives special items, and they can team up to help each other out. Hot Agents can give Icy Agents special stat buffs, and Hot Agents receive a prize box in return. For an extra bonus, choose someone on your friends list (remember to choose carefully!) to be your Best Friend for this event and you’ll both get 20 FIREPOWER Coins and receive a special effect when playing next to each other on the same map. When Icy Agents reach certain level-up goals, they’ll receive a Growth Potion-and one for their Best Friend too. Parties that include an Icy Agent will also get bonus EXP.

FIREPOWER: Events

Select one of your characters under Lv. 100 to be a Burning character, and every time they level up, they will gain two additional levels as well (up to Lv. 100)! Earn FIREPOWER Coins through various events and monster drops to spend in the Coin Shop. The FIREPOWER Coin Shop has stocked a variety of chairs, mounts, scrolls and more. Break the giant ice block that appears in certain towns to earn restorative items, chairs and other great rewards. You also can participate in attendance and guild events!

FriendStory: Rock and Roll

The sixth chapter of FriendStory will rock your socks off! A new student comes to Shinsoo International School carrying a Rock Virus that infects the student body, making them play air guitar and act like rock stars. Join Irena’s band to help them fight back with the power of music! A new mini game lets you show off your musical skills as you play guitar in the band. Once you’ve completed Chapter 6, you also have the option to play through the story a second time for special rewards and to see different endings.

New Region: Blackgate City

A portal to another dimension has opened, and strange demons are spilling out into Blackgate City! Players Lv. 100 to Lv. 150 can travel to this new area through the Dimensional Mirror. Help set up a defensive line and fight back against the invasion alongside the Night Angels and Demon Knights. Explore this dangerous area where five fierce new bosses will randomly spawn, and earn new Blackgate equipment!

New Region: Scrapyard

The giant airship, Black Heaven, crashed into the ground near Edelstein at the conclusion of the epic Black Heaven saga. Now players Lv. 190 and above can explore this new area. Visit the town of Haven and help the robots there with Daily Quests to earn new Energy Cores. Normal mode for Lotus is also available here, and beating him will give you more Energy Cores. Exchange your Energy Cores for AbsoLab Coins in Haven, and then spend the coins in the AbsoLab Coin Shop in order to acquire Lv. 160 Absolute Lab Set equips.

New Star Planet Games

Star Planet is receiving two new mini-games: The Legends Return!, and Supernatural Yut. In The Legends Return!, players compete 3 on 3 in a PvP style brawl. Each player selects an avatar and receives five skills they can use. Avatars can grow and level up by defeating monsters or opposing players. Whoever receives the most points at the end of the battle wins. In Supernatural Yut, players receive a Yut Power (affecting them) and a Piece Power (which can affect the opposing player). Use the special powers before you toss the yut to add an extra element to the game.

Beast Tamer is Back

You asked, and we listened. We are pleased to announce that the new and improved Beast Tamer job will once again be available for character creation for a limited time! From skills to quests, Chase is ready to show off her updates and improvements. So get ready to experience the Beast Tamer before time runs out and see why she’s back and better than ever.

Enter Beefy’s Kitchen

Guess who’s looking for an extra hand in the kitchen! Beefy the Grill Master wants to go have adventures, so he needs someone to help out in his culinary dojo! Players Lv. 33 and above can enter Beefy’s Kitchen at the Nautilus and help him complete missions such as hunting monsters and completing party quests to raise the level of the kitchen. As it improves, you’ll unlock the ability to cook up powerful potions, Cash Shop items and more. Make Beefy’s Kitchen shine and earn rewards such as a medal and new chef-themed equips!

New Content

Blackgate City

Requirement: Lv. 100 and above

  • A portal to another dimension has opened, and strange demons are spilling out into Blackgate City.
  • Players Lv. 100 and above can travel to this new area through the Dimensional Mirror.
  • Help set up a defensive line and fight back against the invasion alongside the Night Angels and Demon Knights.
  • Explore this dangerous area where five fierce new bosses will randomly spawn, and earn new Lv. 120 Blackgate equipment.

How to Participate:

  • Accept the quest ‘Blackgate’s New Gate’ from the quest notifier.
  • Then use the Dimensional Mirror to go Blackgate City and speak to Angel.
  • Complete various quests for the Night Angels and Demon Knights while battling new bosses and earn new Blackgate equipment.

Scrapyard

Requirement: Lv. 190 and above

  • The Scrapyard can be accessed from Edelstein Strolling Path 4.
  • Black Heaven does not need to be completed to access the Scrapyard.
  • Complete the quest ‘A New Home’ from NPC One-Eye located in Scrapyard: Haven, or through the quest light bulb located on the left side of the game window, to access daily quests in the Scrapyard.
  • Perform a variety of quests; up to 5 quests can be completed per day.

AbsoLab Coin Exchange

  • AbsoLab Coins can be obtained by trading 50 ‘Diffusion-Line Energy Core (Grade A)’ items along with an ‘Extraordinary Energy Core (Grade S)’ to NPC Sensitive Squaroid in Scrapyard: Haven.
  • Three ‘Diffusion-Line Energy Core (Grade A)’ items will be rewarded once a day when 5 daily quests are completed and turning in the quest ‘Request Reward’ from One-Eye.
  • ‘Extraordinary Energy Core (Grade S)’ items can be obtained from normal difficulty Lotus boss.
  • Lotus boss entrance is located in the ruins of Black Heaven located in the Scrapyard.
  • Spend AbsoLab Coin with with NPC Three-Hands located in Scrapyard: Haven for AbsoLab equipment.

FriendStory: Rock & Roll

Requirement: Lv. 33 and above

  • Chapter 6 of FriendStory is now available.
  • Damien has just transferred to Shinsoo International School, and he is already causing trouble!
  • Help Irena and the rest of the school faculty solve the mystery of the rock virus plaguing the school and return things back to normal.
  • You can go to the Closet House portal in Henesys and talk to NPC Elwin to start the new chapter.
  • You must complete the first 5 chapters of FriendStory to begin Chapter 6.
  • This chapter includes a mini-game where you must play the guitar and hit the correct notes in time with the beat!
    • Use the up and down keys on the keyboard to change the location of the guitar pick and press the spacebar at the right time.
    • If you perform well enough in the mini-game, you will enter a Fever state which enhances the HP you recover when hitting each note correctly.

Marksman

  • Rangefinder: Critical Rate increase effect has changed to Ignore Defense Rate increase.
  • Net Throw: Throw chance increase from 70 to 100. Cooldown added (5 sec).
  • Dragon’s Breath: Targeted number of monsters increased from 6 to 9.
  • Reckless Hunt: Crossbow: Min Critical Damage 15% effect added.
  • Snipe: Damage Max Value increased from 400 Mil to 500 Mil and Range increased. Delay Reduced from 960 to 840.
  • Bolt Surplus: Critical Rate increase effect has changed to Ignore Defense Rate increase.
  • High Speed Shot: Max Damage Increased from 50 Mil to 500 Mil. Cooldown Reduction from 30 to 15.
  • Bullseye Shot: Damage 20% increase effect added.

Mercedes

  • Potential Power: 20% Damage Increase effect added
  • Spirit Surge: Damage increased from 15 to 30.
  • Leap Tornado: Attack area increased to direction below
  • Ignis Roar: ATT increased with Link Attack from 30 to 40.

  • The difficulty and quest requirements of certain quests have been reduced.
  • You can now replay all FriendStory chapters once you have completed chapters 1-6.
  • Clear all chapters and play them again to find new quests and rewards in chapters 1-5.
    • There will be hidden quests that award the player will new titles and chairs.

Star Planet Updates and New Games

  • Calculations for ranking adjustments have been adjusted to take into account your ranking and the ranking of your opponent.
    • When you defeat a higher ranked player, your rank will increase more than when defeating a lower ranked player.
  • Shining Stars will be selected every two weeks instead of every week.
  • Star Bingo, which was available hourly, will not be held anymore. Instead, Shining Stars can talk to NPC Hop Hop to begin Shining Star Bingo once per week.
    • This event can only be held in Star Planet Channel 1.
    • Shining Star Bingo can be held between 11AM – 10PM Pacific at every hour between the 45-minute mark to the 5-minute mark.
    • Any number from 5-50 players can join in this event.
  • Shining Stars can talk to NPC Hop Hop in the Central Plaza to hold a Burning Star Booster event.
    • Burning Star Booster can be held two times in two weeks.
    • This will activate a 20% Star Points and Reward Point buff for all players for five minutes. During the Burning Star Booster, an icon will show at the top-right buff window.
    • There will be a Burning Star Booster mark in the in the mini-games result window when you receive the Burning Star bonus.
  • A Shining Star Atmospheric Effect item will be given as a bonus reward for Shining Stars.
    • The Shining Star Atmospheric Effect item provides 20% of EXP buff to all players in the same map for 30 minutes.
  • The basic amount of SP and Reward Points given in each mini-game has been adjusted.
  • In Star Monsteropoly, Game of Yut, Star One Card, and Win Streak! Rock-Paper-Scissors, Shining Stars will get their own icon to denote they are a Shining Star.

Supernatural Yut

  • Supernatural Yut has been added to Star Planet, and can be accessed from Star Arena by talking to NPC Stitches.
  • Two Supernatural powers will be given at random at the beginning of the game.
  • There are two types of powers, ones that affect the Yut and ones that the affect the game pieces on the board.
  • Supernatural powers can be used on your turn only once and before casting the Yut.

The Legends Return!

  • The Legends Return! mini-game has been added to Star Planet.
  • This is a PvP mini-game where you enter a virtual space and take the form of the legends of MapleStory to fight your opponents.
  • You form a team of 3 allies going up against another team of 3 characters.
  • You must choose different characters for your team and each character has different unique skills.
  • Each team has a base where they start and respawn when defeated. You also heal when in your base.
  • Hunt monsters and the opposing team to get gain experience and level up.
  • Periodically, a boss monsters will appear. Defeat the boss to gain a large amount of experience.
  • As you level up, you will gain access to new powers.
  • The final battle will pit both teams in a no respawn purely PvP battle. Whichever team is left standing will win the match.

’A Better Maple’ Updates

  • A new damage skin storage system has been added so that you can now save damage skins for later use.
    • In your character info screen, when you select “Equipped” you will have a new damage skin section where you can view all saved damage skins.
    • You can store up to 30 damage skins in your storage.
    • Saving damage skins is free, however it will cost you 100,000 mesos to apply a saved damage skin.
  • There is now a Maple Rewards UI to show you your progress towards reaching the Daily Limit for Maple Rewards.
    • A help section for the Maple Rewards UI has been added by clicking the Maple Rewards icon in the new UI.
    • If you close the UI, you can open it up again by selecting the quest “[Maple Rewards] Open the Reward Points UI” from the Maple Rewards icon on the left side of the screen.
  • A new NPC has been added to most towns called “Matilda – Convenient Item Store”. This NPC will sell some cash items for mesos. The following items are available for sale:
    • AP Reset Scroll: 7,000,000 mesos. Untradeable, Limit 1 per day. 7 day duration.
    • SP Reset Scroll: 7,000,000 mesos. Untradeable, Limit 1 per day. 7 day duration.
    • Teleport Rock: 3,000,000 mesos. Untradeable, Limit 1 per day. 7 day duration.
    • Buff Freezer: 1,000,000 mesos. Untradeable, Limit 3 per day.
    • Safety Charm: 3,000,000 mesos. Untradeable, Limit 3 per day.
    • Respawn Token: 2,000,000 mesos. Untradeable, Limit 3 per day.

System Changes

  • A new character position change button has been added. Just press the “Change Location” button on the top left of the character select screen to change the order of your characters using the arrows.
  • Up to 5 revivals are now allowed per person for the Cygnus boss fight.
  • Xenon, Kaiser, and Angelic Buster can now acquire the ‘Will of the Alliance’ skill when completing the alliance story quest.
  • EXP can now be acquired when defeating an Elite Boss.
  • The UI for the Master Craftsman’s Cube and Meister’s Cube has changed to match the UI for the Red Cube. If the exchange status of cubes in possession are the same, the ‘One More Try’ can be used to use the cube easily and quickly.
  • The 15-minute restriction placed on characters for connecting from a different IP has been changed to an account restriction.
  • Information on the skill required to learn the next skill has been added to the tooltip.
  • Equipment with the slip-resistance stat will remain when it becomes an Equipment Trace.
  • New Blade Effects and Mini Blade Effect damage effects have been added to System Options.
  • Spirit of Freedom has been changed to a Resistance-only Link Skill. You will not take damage for 6 seconds after being revived. If other Resistance job characters exist on the account, then it can be stacked up to 3 times for each character who grants the link skill. Effects are reduced when used as a linked skill.
  • Animation skip functionality has been added. When the ESC button is pressed while an animation is being played, a pop-up window to skip will appear.
  • Monster Park has been removed from the Quick Move menu and has been added to the Dimensional Mirror. Dimensional Mirror content will now open according to the entry level.
  • Some Star Force field areas have been changed. The Danger Zone Taxi in El Nath can now be used to get to the Dead Mine Entrance. The Danger Zone Taxi in Minar can now be used to get to the Entrance to Dragon Nest.
  • Repeated play for Black Heaven has been added. Once Black Heaven has been cleared, you can reset them through the NPC Moco in the Conference Pavilion. The same EXP will be given for repeated play but only a portion of the Honor EXP will be given.

Default Character Slot Expansion

  • The default starting character slots have been increased from 3 to 8.
  • Max character slots have been increased from 32 to 36.

Lotus Boss Update

Requirements: Lv. 190 and above.
Restrictions

  • 1 entry per day
  • No more entries per week if you defeat him
  • Does not share entry limit with hard mode

Gameplay

  • Normal difficulty Lotus boss added.
  • You’ll be able to access the fight using the boss matchmaking list (Default: T key). Must have completed all acts of Black Heaven.
  • Obtain Extraordinary Energy Coin (Grade S) from defeating Lotus.
  • Exchange an Extraordinary Energy Core (Grade S) along with 50 Diffusion-Line Energy Core (Grade A) for an AbsoLab Coin.
  • Exchange AbsoLab Coins for AbsoLab equipment from Three-Hands in Scrapyard Haven.

AbsoLabs Set Equipment

  • Collect AbsoLab Coins to purchase the new Absolute Labs set equipment.
  • Trade 50 Diffusion-Line Energy Core (Grade A) and an Extraordinary Energy Core (Grade S) for an AbsoLab Coin.
    • Diffusion-Line Energy Core (Grade A) can be obtained from completing daily quests in Scrapyard.
    • Extraordinary Energy Core (Grade S) can be obtained by defeating normal difficulty boss Lotus.
  • NPC Three-Hands runs the AbsoLab Coin Shop. You can find her in Scrapyard: Haven.
  • Each job type – Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief, and Pirate – has its own Absolute Labs equipment set.
  • You must be at least Lv. 160 to equip these items.
  • Trade for these items is disabled when they’re equipped. After equipping an item, you can use Platinum Scissors of Karma to trade it once.
  • These items can be enhanced up to 15 stars.
  • The Absolute Labs Core Suits and Hats will be released in a future update.

Absolute Labs Set Bonuses

  • 2 items: STR/DEX/INT/LUK +30
  • 3 items: Weapon/Magic ATT +30, Ignore enemy defense +10%
  • 4 items: Max HP/MP +20%, Weapon/Magic DEF +200
