MapleStory and Sword Art Online have come together for one of the coolest crossover events in gaming: You watched it. You loved it. Now LIVE it! The heroes of Sword Art Online have appeared in Maple World – join them as they brave a new dungeon and fight the monsters that protect it.

Enter the Dungeon

Take part in a special roleplay event, based on the popular anime Sword Art Online! Enter the new SAO-themed dungeon (Lv. 13 and above) and you’ll randomly transform into Kirito, Asuna or Leafa for a limited time. One to three people can enter the dungeon in a party. Talk to Kirito in the Event Hall to travel to the entrance. Note that you can only play as Sword Art Online characters while inside the dungeon, though you can purchase themed outfits from the Cash Shop (see below).

You’ll need SAO Coins to gain access to the dungeon. The number of required coins will depend on the difficulty chosen (Normal or Premium). SAO Coins can be purchased from the Cash Shop. You can access the SAO Dungeon once a day without using SAO Coins by speaking to Kirito.

Become A Part of SAO

When you step through the portal and enter the SAO Dungeon, you will randomly transform into Kirito, Asuna, or Leafa, and will be able to fight using their skills. Utilize abilities such as The Eclipse, which allows Kirito to attack enemies in all directions with his dual blades, or Star Splash, which allows Asuna to slice foes at the speed of light.


You cannot use your own equipment or skills while in the dungeon. If you need to recover HP and MP, you’ll have to hunt Ragout Rabbits for sustenance.

Take On Exclusive Boss

Defeat all the monsters on each floor to progress. As you venture deeper inside the dungeon, you will randomly encounter bosses from Sword Art Online, including The Gleam Eyes, The Skull Reaper and The Fatal Scythe. Defeat a boss and you’ll find Asuna waiting for you in a special room. She’ll reward you with a random item, such as a cape, potions and much more!

You can receive different rewards depending on which boss you defeat, which difficulty you beat them on, and how many times you claimed victory. Clear the dungeon multiple times and you’ll be awarded special medals! If you defeat a boss more than once, you can even receive a familiar with their likeness.

Our new dungeon isn’t the only way to experience Sword Art Online – for a limited time, you can dress up like Kirito, Asuna, Leafa and even Yui, with special items available in the Cash Shop.

September 17 – October 14

Requirement: Lv. 13 or above

  • Take part in a special roleplay event where you can become characters from the popular anime Sword Art Online!
  • Become either Kirito, Asuna, or Leafa and journey into a special Sword Art Online theme dungeon!
  • Accept the quest ‘[Sword Art Online] Meeting Kirito’ from the star event notifier on the left side of the game window.
  • You will be transported to the SAO Dungeon Entrance.
  • You can also speak to Kirito in the Event Hall to move to the dungeon.

SAO Coins

  • You need to use SAO Coins to gain access to the SAO Dungeon. The number of coins required depends on the difficulty chosen.
    • Normal Dungeon – 3 SAO Coins
    • Premium Dungeon – 5 SAO Coins
  • You can purchase SAO Coin coupons from the Cash Shop.
  • If you die during the dungeon, the coins are consumed when you revert to your regular character.
  • You can access the SAO Dungeon without using SAO Coins once a day. Select “Connect to Normal World” from the right portal inside the SAO Dungeon Entrance.

Enter the Dungeon

  • You must be in a party of 1 to 3 people in order to enter the dungeon.
  • When you enter the portal into the SAO Dungeon, you will become Kirito in a party of 1, you will become either Kirito or Asuna in a party of 2, and you will randomly become either Kirito, Asuna, or Leafa in a party of 3.
  • You will be able to use their skills to fight the monsters in the dungeon. You cannot use your own equipment or skills while in the dungeon.
    • You can defeat Ragout Rabbits to receive Ragout Rabbit’s Meat while in the dungeon to recover HP and MP.
    • Defeat all the monsters in the room to clear it and move to the next floor. You do not have to defeat the Ragout Rabbits.
    • On the 5th floor, you will randomly encounter a boss from Sword Art Online–The Gleam Eyes, The Skull Reaper, or The Fatal Scythe.
    • After defeating the boss, you can move to another room where Asuna has a reward for you.
    • You can receive different rewards depending on which bosses you defeat, at which difficulty, and how many times. Speak to Asuna to track your progress.

    Kirito Skills

    • Vertical Square – A 4-hit attack skill using Kirito’s super fast swordsmanship.
    • Dark Repulser – Kirito summons the mighty Dark Repulser as his second weapon.
    • The Eclipse – Kirito wields his dual blades to attack enemies in all directions. No mercy for his enemies!

    Asuna Skills

    • Star Splash – Asuna’s main attack skill is so fast that the blade cannot be seen when it cuts.
    • Battle Healing – Restores HP every time you attack an enemy.
    • Flashing Penetrator – Asuna’s final skill that deals a single blow to several enemies in line.

    Leafa Skills

    • Vacuum Blades – The power of magic allows the caster’s keen blade to strike enemies far away.
    • Blessings of the Wind – Casts a spell that allows for even quicker attacks.
    • Wind Needles – Leafa’s final attack that deals magic damage to several enemies.

    • The Blaze Wizard Character Card now has the following effects: Magic Damage + 0.5/1/1.5/2 per character level.

    Additional Updates

    Beauty Salon

    • Welcome to the all new Beauty Salon where you can save any hair and face styles you have acquired, and change to them anytime you want! No more regret for the missed styles!
    • The new Beauty Salon system can be accessed by clicking the “Salon” button located at the bottom of Equipment Inventory window.
    • The pop-up Beauty Salon window comprises a character preview area on the left, and 2 style tabs on the right – one for hair style and one for face style.
    • Three slots are available on each tab by default, and additional slots can be unlocked by purchasing Beauty Salon Slot Expansion Coupons from the Cash Shop.
    • How to save a style: Simply select an empty slot, and click the “Save” button at the bottom.
    • How to change a style: Click on the saved slot and then select the “Change” button at the bottom. Your look will then change back to that style. You can also preview the style in the preview area. Each style change costs 100,000 mesos.
    • How to delete a style: if you no longer want to keep a style, just select it, and click on the “Delete” button at the bottom.

    [Better Maple] Horntail Solo Mode

    • As the latest step in our continuous effort for a “Better Maple”, the Horntail challenge can now be finished in solo mode.
    • The previous quest “Secret Medicine for Transformation” is no longer required for entering the Cave of Life. By talking to NPC Moira at the entrance, players will directly receive “Certificate of Dragon Squad” to enter the Cave.

    Party and Friend Menu Updates

    • The Party Search menu has been merged into the Maple User List menu.
    • Party leaders can now set party names when first creating a Party or by selecting Settings in the Party tab.
    • Party leaders can now set the party to Private when first creating a Party or by selecting Settings in the Party tab.
    • The Party Tab in the Maple User List menu now allows you to search for a Party and search for members to invite to your own party.
      • Click on ‘Invite to Party’ to search for other players to add to your Party.
    • Right-clicking a party member’s name in the My Party list will give you the following options: Follow to Channel, Make Party Leader, Whisper, Invite to Chat, Add Friends, and Kick.
      • ‘Follow to Channel’ will automatically move you to the other player’s Channel.
    • The Party icon has been updated.
    • When sending a chat message to your party, the word bubble for that message will only be viewable by your party members.
      • Word Bubble Ring effects will not be applied to party chat bubbles.
    • You can now select ‘Add Friend’ when you right-click another player’s character.
    • The ‘Request Friend’ functionality in the Guild screen right-click menu has changed to the ‘Add Friend’ menu.
    • Selecting ‘Add Friend’ when right-clicking a character or their name will automatically fill their character name into the pop up menu.

    Boss Menu Updates

    • The Expedition tab in the Maple User List menu is now called the Boss tab.
    • All Expedition related functionality such as chatrooms, commands, and UI have been removed.
    • You can now encounter bosses that were only available as Expeditions by entering as a party.
    • Within the Boss tab of the Maple User List, you can see the min/max level requirements, prerequisite quests, required items, and restrictions on the available bosses by moving your mouse over the UI.
    • For some bosses, you must complete the relevant entry quests first before you can select that boss in the Boss tab.
    • Once you select a Boss and Difficulty level and press ‘GO’, you will be matched with other players who have also selected that Boss and Difficulty level.
      • You will be moved to the Boss waiting area once you are matched with party members.
      • You can return to your original location by using the exit portal in the boss waiting area map.
      • If you get matched while you are already in a party, your party members will also get matched with other players.
      • However, when you are in a full party (6 members) or one of the party members is offline or in a different channel, you cannot get matched with other players.
      • Only a party leader can request the party matching through the Boss tab.
      • When using the Boss tab to match with other players, you will gain a buff that is only effective for certain bosses.

    Boss Entry Level Updates

    • Boss entry level requirement has changed.
      • Normal Horntail and Chaos Horntail entry requirement levels have changed to Lv. 120 and Lv. 135, respectively.
      • Easy and Normal Von Leon entry level requirements have changed to Lv. 130.
      • Easy and Normal Arkarium entry level requirements have changed to Lv. 140.
      • Normal Pink Bean entry level requirement has changed to Lv. 160.
      • Easy, Normal, and Hard Magnus entry level requirements have changed to Lv. 115, Lv. 155, and Lv. 175, respectively.

    Quest Updates

    • Six quests for boss Hilla have been added.

      • The completion requirements for ‘[Horntail] Badge of a Squad Member’ has been changed, and Zakum Certificate, Pianus Certificate, and Papulatus Certificate are no longer needed.
      • The minimum requirements for Cave of Life and Room of Maze have been reduced from 6 players to 2 players.
    • Quests for Von Leon have been modified.
      • You can now obtain the Knight’s Magic Scroll without collecting materials when on the second or more trials for completing the quest ‘[Von Leon] The Knight’s Magic Scroll’.
      • The starting level for the following quests has changed to Lv.130 and above: ‘[Von Leon] Knight of the Lion King’, ‘[Von Leon] The Transformed King’, ‘[Von Leon] The Knight’s Magic Scroll’, and ‘[Von Leon] Defeat the Lion King’.
    • The start level for Arkarium quests has changed to Lv. 140 and above.
    • The “Eye of Fire” required for entering the boss Zakum, can be obtained simply by talking to NPC Adobis.
    • Pink Bean quests have been modified:
      • The quest ‘[Pink Bean] Breaking the Force Field’ has changed so that it gives the Marble of Chaos without having to collect materials.
      • The starting level for the following quests has changed to Lv.160 and above: ‘[Pink Bean] Goddess’s Blessing’, ‘[Pink Bean] Force Field’, ‘[Pink Bean] Beyond the Ruins’, and ‘[Pink Bean] Breaking the Force Field’.
    • Magnus quests have been modified.
      • The starting level for the quest ‘[Easy Magnus] Magnus Simulator’ has changed to Lv. 115 and above.
      • Normal Magnus’s starting level has changed to Lv. 155 and above.
      • Now only players Lv. 155 and above can enter Heliseum Heights Entry.
    • Within the Boss tab of the Maple User List, you can see the min/max level requirements, prerequisite quests, required items, and restrictions on the available bosses by moving your mouse over the UI.
    • A Lv. 250 quest has been added: ‘[Lv. 250 Reached] The Light of Hope (Lv. 250)’.

Tower of Oz

The following changes have been made to ensure a better experience in Tower of Oz:

  • 1st Floor – The number of monsters required to clear the stage has been reduced to 100.
  • 2nd Floor – The number of Explorations has been increased to 3.
  • 3rd Floor – Players now only need to collect 1,000 Ancient Turtle Eggs.
  • 4th Floor – The frequency of the balance between each side of the tower has been increased.
  • 7th Floor – Ripley’s HP amount has been slightly increased.
  • The rewarded Skill Rings now have a longer activation time and cool down time.
  • The probability of other rewards has been increased too.

Skill Voice Volume

  • In the System Options, you can now adjust the volume of the character’s voice when performing certain skills.
  • This can be done by adjusting the Skills slider beneath SFX or by checking the “Mute” box.

World Select Screen

  • The World and Channel selection screen has been updated with a new look.

Requirement: Blaze Wizard character

  • Obtain a gift box when you reach each of the following levels as Blaze Wizard (Lv. 30, 50, 70, 80, 90, 110, and 130).
  • Accept the reward by clicking the ‘[Blaze Wizard Ignition]’ quest through the event notifer on the left side of the game window.
  • Make sure to open the boxes by 10/14/14 11:59 PM Pacific.

  • 1. Receive Sylph Ring
    • Accept the quest “[Freud’s Journal] Finding the Ring”. You will be automatically moved to the map after accepting. The ring and related story can be found there.
    • The Revealed Sylph Ring cannot be thrown away, and can be sold to stores. If sold, you cannot acquire the ring again, so be careful.
    • Be cautious since the currently applied Damage Skin will disappear once the stored Damage Skin is applied.
  • 2. Sylph Ring Growth
    • The ring’s potential cannot be reset (Awakening Stamps cannot be used to develop the potentials).
    • If an Item Guard is used on the Sylph Ring, the ring cannot grow during the time it is sealed.
    • The Shared Sylph Ring and Growing Sylph Ring can be thrown away but you cannot participate in the event if the ring is thrown away.
  • 2-1. Stage Growth – Revealed Shared Sylph Ring
    • Complete the quest ‘[Freud’s Journal ] Finding The Ring’. The Revealed Sylph Ring must be in possession (cannot be repeated).

  • 3-2. Sylph Ring Training
    • Complete the quest ‘[Freud’s Journal] Finding The Ring’. The Revealed Sylph Ring must be equipped.

Mystic Gate

Every weekend during September 24 – October 25

Requirement: Lv. 75 or above

  • Mystic Gate has returned with its sinister glow! Defeat the Mystic Bosses it summons and win random gift boxes and special medals.
  • This event is only available on the weekends during the event period.
  • During the event period, Mystic Gate can be found in Henesys, Pantheon and Leafre. Enter it to teleport to Mystic Field. Mystic Field can also be accessed by clicking on quests starting with “Mystic Gate” in the Event Notifier on the left side of the screen.
  • One of the 5 Mystic Bosses – Von Leon, Akarium, Hilla, Zakum and Horntail – will be randomly summoned in the Mystic Field and will stay for 15 minutes. A warning message will pop up 10 and 5 minutes before the boss appears.
  • You need to defeat the bosses before they disappear in order to receive EXP bonuses and rewards.
  • If you deal damage to the Mystic Bosses, you will receive a random gift box after defeating the boss. If you cannot deal any damage, or if you leave the Mystic Field during the fight, you will not receive a gift box.
  • The map of Mystic Field has a special UI that displays the top 5 players that deal the most damage for each Mystic Boss fight. These players will receive additional random gift boxes depending on their ranks.
  • The participant who lands the final hit on the boss will receive an additional 5 random boxes. Also, one random participant not on the top 5 list will receive 3 more random boxes.

  • Accept the quest ‘[Mr. Lee Airlines] Maldoves Vacation Package’ from the star notifier to move to Boarding Area.
  • Speak with Mr. Lee to move to board his plane, the MR133, to Southern Beach.
  • The passengers who have crash landed on the deserted island must find Escape tools (Jet Boat, Submarine, Gyrocopter).
  • A number of dangerous situations randomly occur during this search.
  • Once you find your escape vehicle, you must complete the requirements that will activate it.
  • If you die or get off the island but did not properly escape, you will return to the state before you got on the plane, as if it were a dream.
  • If you escape successfully and return to Maple World, you can get compensation for your damage/loss.

  • Log on with a character Lv. 33 or higher during the event period.
  • Accept and complete the quest on the event notifier.
  • You can open the event UI through the “Honey Butterfly Journal” that you get from completing the event quest. Note that you cannot use the “Honey Butterfly Journal” after the event ends.
  • Hunt monsters around your level to fill up your “Honey Gauge”. Some monsters do not apply (such as Monster Park, Dimension Invasion, Cross World PQ, Mystic Fields, Boss Arena, Mu Lung Dojo, Tower of Oz).
  • You can get 1 “Pot of Honey” when you fill up the “Honey Gauge”. “Honey Gauge” and “Pot of Honey” are kept in the Inventory, and can only be checked in a separate gauge UI.
  • Open the event UI to decorate or play with your Honey Butterfly using “Pot of Honey”. There are no daily limits to decorating and playing.
  • You can get buff effects based on your character level if you choose to “play with” the butterfly.

The Kid Gamsper

  • Click on the icon of Gamsper through the ‘star’ event notifier on the left side of the game window to accept the quest, or visit Gamsper in the Event Hall.
  • Decorate the ghost kid Gamsper by collecting ghost paint.
    • 10 drops of ghost paint will be acquired for every 10 seconds connected to the game.
    • 20 drops of ghost paint can be acquired through the Ghost Paint Tube dropped from monsters in the field.
    • Other players can be right-clicked to select the Rock-Paper-Scissors game. Winners will acquire 100 drops of ghost paint, and a tie or loss will earn 10 drops of ghost paint.
    • Defeat the Bully Jack that appears in town to acquire Mysterious Ghost Paint Tube. This item can be used to acquire 5 drops of ghost paint every second from standing in a paint cloud that appears. Bully Jack only appears in Henesys, Leafre, El Nath, Edelstein, and Mu Lung from 8 AM-10 PM Pacific.
    • Up to 9999 drops of ghost paint can be stored.
  • Decorating Gamsper can be done through the event menu by clicking Gamsper’s icon through the ‘star’ event notifier on the left side of the game window.
    • You can randomly change Gamsper’s head, face, and body for 4,000 drops of ghost paint each. You can randomly change all of Gamsper for 2,000 drops of ghost paint.
  • The Challenge button in the event menu can be used to accept a random daily quest. Daily quest types include:
    • Collect 9999 drops of ghost paint.
    • Participate in 3 games of Rock-Paper-Scissors.
    • Collect 30 Ghost Paint Tubes.
    • Use Mysterious Ghost Paint Tube 3 times.

  • Witch Malady will send you on a wild ingredient chase for her pungent food recipes. You can gather the necessary ingredients from various monsters around Maple World.

  • During the event period, Frog and Black Cat monsters will appear every 10 minutes in most major towns. Defeat these monsters to receive Dark Tokens and ingredients for Witch Malady’s recipes.

  • You can reach the mansion by using the NLC Taxi in New Leaf City. You can get to New Leaf City using the Kerning City subway or through a Dimensional Mirror in a town.

  • Complete the quests including the final quest ‘[Halloween] Butler: “The Trap”’ to receive your reward.

  • Talk to NPC Masked Man in the Event Hall to start the quest. The quest can also be started by accepting “The Masked Gentleman’s Party” from the Event Notifier on the left side of the game window.
  • Hunt monsters within your level range to collect Candy Pouches. Some monsters do not apply. These pouches will charge to your Candy Points.
  • Candy Pouches can be exchanged for Candy Points with NPC Maid in the Event Hall.
  • Accumulate 1,000 Candy Points to meet the daily requirement and get a reward for the day; 7 days of attendance is needed to complete the quest.
  • Occasionally, Xerxes will appear when players obtain Candy Pouches. Players can defeat him to get “Xerxes’ Candy Pouch”, which contains 100 Candy Points.

Rewards:

  • You can receive a different reward at each stage of the Masked Gentleman’s statue:
