MapleStory Reboot is an update to re-balance skills of all classes and also to adjust the current Star Force Enhancement System to make it less PITA. Update #1 (June 15, 2015)

The first patch of this update will be released to the official server on June 25 and will include the character balancing which has been going on in the test servers so far.

Hello Maple users. It’s SY.

Today, since a lot of people have been asking for more information about our summer update after our plan was released, I will be talking about some of the large variety of content and events which will be added in MapleStory’s summer 2015 update “Reboot”.

Maple has already celebrated their 12th year and summer. Including this winter, over 20 large updates have been made for the game. Many people have been asking “can you think of any more updates?”, but our updates are from our imagination, leaving an infinite number of possibilities.

But the most important thing is listening to requests from our users. It is very difficult to decide what we should develop with our limited resources given so many different users’ circumstances and wants. There are many, many factors which affect our decisions.

This summer update “Reboot” is based on two things: things users want and some attempts at a new Maple.

Each day of this week, we will be giving out detailed information about each piece of content by talking to the development team. Today we will be talking with Wonky of the development team about character balancing, level up frame 2.0, equipment frame 2.0, and related details.

1. Character Balancing

SY: Everyone would like to become stronger. However, relative balance between characters is very important to keep an RPG fun. Right now, with this in mind, we looked at all of our previous developers’ notes and saw that we tended to simply buff characters again and again. Our goal now was to bring down some characters’ damage. Depending on the job, we may have even buffed them, and we know there is lots of discussion among users about our decisions. Believe us when we say that we are putting great importance on users’ opinions and our test server patches have and will be taking these into consideration. In addition, for further balancing, we will be continue to ask for user input as well as use our own collected data.

2. Level up frame 2.0

SY: Collecting stronger equipment and leveling are the most basic parts of an RPG but as users get higher and higher, it becomes more difficult. We want to work on increasing the feedback users receive as they level up to make it more fun and so they can feel actual growth.

Wonky: First of all, the new Hyper Stat system will be available starting at level 140. The Hyper Stat system is different than the regular stat system and allows you to raise various combat stats. After level 140, you’ll receive Hyper Stat Points which you can use to increase your combat stats. In particular, you can get stats that previously could only be acquired through equipment, Inner Ability, and other skills, depending on your character’s level. And after the Hyper Stat system is added, the Hyper Skill system will be integrated within it. Other changes include the amount of Honor you receive per level up. Currently, you get 500 Honor every time you level up, but after this update, you’ll get even more Honor based on your level.

3. Equipment frame 2.0

SY: Last summer, we introduced the new enhancement system Star Force, and this summer we will be reorganizing it again. As I mentioned in a previous Developers’ Note, together with an overall cost adjustment of enhancements we will be adding the Toad’s Hammer system which lets you move an equipment’s enhanced stats.

Wonky: Some updates to the Star Force enhancement system were added to the test server last week. To increase the cost efficiency of enhancing, we have decreased the costs of the 10th~14th stars. And to reduce the risk of enhancing items which have more than 12 stars, destroyed items will now give Item Traces which hold up to 12 stars of that item. Through these changes, we hope that users’ needs of a less risky enhancement system are fulfilled.

And a new system which allows you to transfer enhanced stats of equipment to the next level of equipment called Toad’s Hammer will be added. Now, you will be able to upgrade to higher level equipment constantly without losing the merit of enhancements to your current equipment. The Toad’s Hammer system allows you to move over an item’s Star Force enhancements, potential, additional potential, and Soul Weapon information to another item which is +1 ~ +10 levels above it. Although the details may change during testing, currently the Toad’s Hammer system’s cost is that 1 star from your item will be taken away and only potential/additional potential up to Epic rank can be carried over. Your Soul Weapon stats will stay the same.

SY: Because of this change, you will now be able to start enhancing your equipment at a low level and inherit those stats as you upgrade your equipment, making it fun to continue to become stronger with every single weapon.

Update #2 (June 16, 2015)

It’s SY.

Today we will be talking about the introduction of 2D skeleton animations and also a bit more of the new class Kinesis which we have mentioned before.

1. 2D Skeleton Animation

SY: MapleStory’s 2D graphics are definitely part of Maple’s signature, but it does have limitations. In order to fix this, we will be updating to a new graphics engine which will allow better 2D graphics scenes.

Kobo: Hello! I’m the designer in charge of concept art, Kobo. The introduction of a new graphics engine is very exciting to a designer~

Our current sprites require many resources in order to create realistic animations and movements, and it is hard for us to make what we imagine, but with the introduction of this new graphics engine, we will be able to create more natural motions and use our character illustrations better. For example, making wind swept grass and trees, fast moving vehicles, and other moving objects. Overall, this will allow us to make movement much more vibrant.

Kobo: You can expect MapleStory’s graphic style to evolve.

Sutber: Hello. I am the designer in charge of pixel art, Sutber.

In the past, skeleton animation was used in 3D games and more recently, online games, console games, mobile games, and a variety of different platforms. With the addition of skeleton animation to MapleStory, monsters’ animations can become much more natural and vibrant.

Sutber: In addition to monsters and some of the new job’s skills, NPCs, items, and other categories of art will be able to be more visually pleasing to all the users playing MapleStory.

2. New Job

SY: When you hear Maplestory and summer, the first thing you would think of is a new job. But for the past 1 year and 6 months, we have not released any! This summer, the new job you have been waiting for is coming.

MapleStory has 35 jobs but other than their effects, their combat patterns tend to be similar and not very unique.

Taking this into consideration, rather than actually hitting enemies, the new job “Kinesis” will use the weight of objects and monsters around them to showcase an exciting battle.

Wave: Hello, this is my first time speaking with you. I’m Wave.

After the last Developers’ Note was released, many users have been curious about the new job and as many of you have guessed, the new job will use telekinesis.

Kinesis uses telekinesis to pick up or throw monsters, lift themselves up, and after collecting a certain amount of Psychic Points, they can use powerful ultimate skills which use giant objects. This will create a different play pattern than other existing jobs.

This will also be the first job which begins in Friends Story. Starting in the modern background of Friends Story then moving into the huge Maple World, we would like to give a movie-like experience to users.

This summer, armed with new skills and a new story, this new job is coming to find you.

The things we have shown today are still prototypes and we are working hard to develop them more in order to meet your high expectations.

Update #3 (June 17, 2015)

Today, we will be talking about the identity of the “Reboot world” which a lot of users have wondered about.

1. Reboot World

In this summer update, the new Reboot world will be born. The Reboot world is a server focusing on the fun of an RPG’s natural growth, collecting items and becoming stronger. This is done through the removal of selling items which significantly affect strength and reducing the reliance on Cash items through mesos.

Wonky: Hello, I’m Wonky.

In the Reboot world, in order to bring back the RPG’s original fun, game play will be significantly changed. Sufficient items and money needed in the growth process will be acquired through regular gameplay. This reduces the burden of keeping track of money, allowing you to relax and enjoy the RPG. In addition, we will be simplifying enhancing equipment in order to reduce the gap between equipment items. We also want to make levelling up more fun and not just killing monsters repeatedly, so we will be making significant changes to monsters to make battling more interesting.

All trading will be blocked in the Reboot world. Currently, in MapleStory, you can buy all the equipment you need through regular trading or the auction house. Although collecting money through trading is an important factor in MMORPGs, we think it is more important to fight against monsters and collect your own equipment and items. By acquiring equipment through your own gameplay instead of through a shop, we think it will make it a more fun RPG.

Mind Reading Robot: Hello, I’m a mind reading robot.

To reduce the burden of Cash in the Reboot world, a new Cash Shop will be utilized. Because this server is designed to give you the items and money you need as you hunt and level up, there is not as much need of various item strengthening systems and thus, related Cash items will not be sold at all or will be available through mesos. Cosmetic items which do not affect game play will be sold for Cash like usual. These changes will reduce the burden of Cash items and allow you to enjoy the game whether or not you spend money on Cash.

Through the implementation of the Reboot world, we want to show our true Maple’s original intentions, and because of various limitations in existing worlds, we will do it with the Reboot world. We will continue to develop Reboot world based on these policies and listen to the opinions of users to make more changes.

Update #4 (June 18, 2015)

Hello, it’s SY.

Today marks the 4th day of our update introductions. We will be talking about the reorganization of some content to be more fun and the reopening of content which has previously been unavailable.

1. Enter the Dragon Mu Lung Dojo

The existing Mu Lung Dojo is mainly used by high level users with high damage. However, for lower level users, it feels like it is too difficult of a goal to try and challenge them. This summer, starting from level 105, Mu Lung Dojo will be divided into 3 Leagues. Please enjoy aiming for number 1 in your League and progressing to a higher one.

Wonky: In the Reboot update, users will find that the existing Mu Lung Dojo has been changed to Enter the Dragon: Mu Lung Dojo. The current Mu Lung Dojo only allows some users to clear it and reach the top of the rankings but now, starting from level 105, users will be able to participate in the new competition.

Among several changes to Mu Lung Dojo, the biggest is that the current modes will be combined into one. In this mode, the rankings will be split into 3 groups based on character level. Depending on your ranking in the group, you can receive high quality equipment items. Based on the ranking percentage (?), you’ll also receive points in the new Enter the Dragon: Mu Lung Dojo. These Mu Lung Dojo Points can be traded in for various items that will help you in regular game play, including the items which can be acquired from the current Mu Lung Dojo.

And in this single mode’s stages, the monsters’ difficulties have been changed significantly. Instead of being a simple speed race where you mindlessly hit monsters, the neemies have become more powerful in different ways, creating fun gameplay and more interesting competition. Through these change, all users will be able to challenge Enter the Dragon: Mu Lung Dojo and become stronger to enter the rankings.

2. Renewed Korean Folk Town

Currently in Maple, there are many theme dungeons and areas which are closed. In the past, we promised to reopen them after reorganizations but our speed was not fast enough for users’ needs. So this summer, for the users who were looking forward to them, we will be releasing a renewed Korean Folk Town. With a new story and battle patterns, you will able to enjoy a more interesting Korean Folk Town.

Wave: After a long time, Korean Folk Town will finally be reopened. Along with its unique country based fairy tales, we will not be changing it significantly but we will be making it a more serious area. By performing a smaller reorganization, it has become possible to focus our changes and create more high quality content.

The current Korean Folk Town has a variety of stories which some users may have already played and new ones that all users will enjoy. A lot of people already know the folk tales behind the area and one of the main points of this reorganization is to enrich the story and make it fresh.

Wave: We were not satifisfied with the excitement of the material itself, so we looked closely with the gameplay to create a better experience. One of the factors which cannot be overlooked is hunting. To make local hunting grounds interesting, a few things have been added such as being able to use kilns as hunting cools.

Maple World’s Korean Folk Town has a creative concept. Users have shown some interest in it, what is the most interesting thing in Korean Folk Town for you?

Mu Lung Dojo and Korean Folk Town are existing content which many users have enjoyed, and we are looking forward to showing you guys their renewed look. We hope these changes will make these contents more popular and interesting for all users.

Update #5 (June 19, 2015)

Hello, it’s SY.

Finally today, after a long time of preparing, we will be introducing the large scale 18-person raid boss “Urs”.

1. Urs

SY: When you think of online RPGs, you also think of massive raids. However, it is true there are complicated steps which are made difficult due to the large gap between users. Urs will be using the 2D skeleton animation which we introduced on Tuesday, allowing all users to participate more actively in the fight against him. He will use power compensation and hot skills to make playing against the boss more fun and require true cooperation.

Im Chajang: Hello! I’m Im Chajang. Greetings after a long time~ I am happy to showcase Urs to all you users, we have been working on him for a while.

“Urs” is a giant boss monster, and also the first boss in MapleStory to use skeleton animation.

Im Chajang: By replacing our current sprite animation scheme, we were able to surpass our limits and implement something that was bigger and had more diverse behaviour.

In the case of traditional sprite images compared to the new skeleton animation for boss monsters, we were able to reduce the memory footprint of Urs to up to 1/100th of the original.

Another thing which has become possible by the usage of skleton animation is that we can add dozens of actions such as being eaten, thrown, or burned which allowed us to add a wide range of interactions between Urs and the characters fighting him.

Im Chajang: With 18 players all fighting together, the power compensation system has been added to make sure that dealing damage is not the only thing that matters. Unlike traditional bosses, users will need to work together to fight the boss and this will make it much more fun for everyone. Up until now, fighting monsters in Maple has never been this entertaining.

Speaking of large bosses, we are working very hard to develop a pleasant environment to fight the boss in which reducing lag is our highest priority.

This is the core content which our development team is preparing for this summer. The Reboot update will begin on June 25 and continue until August, with about 5 parts. Some of the information which we have talked about may be changed slightly from now until release.

When developing a game, there are always surprises. Our developers hope to surpass all of your expectations. This update is very ambitious and we do not know if we can meet the expectations of all users but we will try our best.

We hope that we can continue to provide updates to Maple which users have been asking for.

Star Force Enhancement System Updated

  • The cost of the 10th~14th stars has been decreased.
  • In order to reduce the risks of destruction when using Star Force enhancements, Item Traces will now store a destroyed item’s enhancement count (up to 12 stars).
  • The above changes do not apply to Superior item enhancements.

MapleStory Reboot Skill Updates

The major changes to most jobs are as follows:

Balancing jobs with low and high combat efficiency

  • Jobs with low combat efficiency is increased. Jobs with high combat efficiency is decreased.
  • To the best of our ability, changes are being made without affecting each job’s characteristics and fun.

Utility ability adjustments

  • Jobs with multiple utility based skills have had their effectiveness and cooldowns adjusted.
  • Draining skills will now be based off of your character’s maximum HP instead of the damage dealt to monsters.
  • Binding skill abilities and binding skill resistances have been changed to follow the same logic. (I believe this means there are no longer different ‘types’ of binds to disallow stacking)
  • Jobs with a low number of utility based skills have had their effectiveness increased.

Combat pattern improvements

  • Some jobs’ combat patterns have been changed slightly.
  • Many cooldowns have been adjusted to create equality.
  • The performance differences between weapons for jobs which can use more than one have been mitigated.

Inconvenience improvements

  • Buff skills’ casting delays have been decreased.
  • Jobs’ buff skills have had their durations normalized.

Skill damage increases’ text explanations clarifications

  • Skills that increase damage, increase attack, or both have had their descriptions clarified. (note: this is probably only an issue in Korean because the words for damage/attack have been used in place of each other sometimes)
  • Skills that increase damage additively will now state ‘%p damage increase’, skills that increase damage multiplicatively will now state ‘% damage increase’, skills that increase your damage multiplicatively but are multiplied last will now state ‘% final damage increase’.
  • ‘Damage increase when attacking bosses’ has been renamed to ‘Damage increase when attacking boss monsters’.

Final Attack Skills’ Logic Changes

KMST 1.2.013

In some situations, Final Attack skills would not activate correctly, especially when it is triggered multiple times in a short amount of time. After the addition of the Battle Analysis system, our development team which was previously unaware of the issue found out and promptly fixed it. There may still be some errors so please contact us if a similar situation occurs.

  • Final Attack: intermittent error where this skill would not activate has been fixed
  • Advanced Final Attack: intermittent error where this skill would not activate has been fixed
  • Meteor: intermittent error where this skill’s extra attack while on cooldown would not activate has been fixed
  • Blizzard: intermittent error where this skill’s extra attack while on cooldown would not activate has been fixed
  • Dark Genesis: intermittent error where this skill’s extra attack while on cooldown would not activate has been fixed
  • Battleship Nautilus: intermittent error where this skill’s extra attack would not activate has been fixed
  • Captain Dignity: intermittent error where this skill would not activate has been fixed
  • Dragon Sparking: intermittent error where this skill would not activate has been fixed
  • Noire Carte: intermittent error where this skill would not activate has been fixed
  • Enhanced Exceed: intermittent error where this skill would not activate has been fixed

All Jobs

Sometimes, even if you stop attacking in time to avoid Damage Reflect, your Final Attack type skills would activate, leading to unavoidable deaths so we have fixed that. In addition, we have increased the maximum damage of summons.

  • Final Attack skills: these skills will no longer activate Damage Reflect
  • Summon skills: maximum damage limit has been increased to 1 billion (1,000,000,00)

All Adventurers

The Decent skills available through equipment potential have been changed so that they can be debuffed like all other jobs and we fixed a Drain skill which we missed in previous patches.

  • Decent skills: error where these skills could not be debuffed has been fixed
  • Icarut’s Vampire Icarut’s Vampire: HP healed has been changed from % of damage done to monsters to % of your maximum HP

All Adventurer Magicians

KMST 1.2.012

  • To mitigate the differences between Staves and Wands, you will now gain attack speed when using a Wand.
  • MP Increase: in addition to existing effects, your attack speed will be increased by 1 stage while wearing a Wand

KMST 1.2.013

We have removed the attack speed boost while equipping a Wand and replaced it with a critical rate boost.

  • MP Increase: attack speed boost while equipping a Wand has been removed, now you will gain 3% critical chance while equipping a Wand

Gaming Probabilities to be Revealed

KMST 1.2.013

On June 30, Korea MapleStory will be releasing the probabilities of their items to comply with the new law has been passed in Korea which requires all companies to disclose the probabilities of gambling-type items. Hopefully we will get to know the probability to get items from things like Philosopher’s Books, Miracle Cubes and their chances to upgrade/get certain lines.

Paladin

Paladin’s combat pattern was to use their Elemental Charges then a powerful Blast to receive a buff, but since Elemental Charge’s buffs were not being consumed, users simply used Blast until the buff ran out. Using Blast continuously did not fit the pattern of an elemental fighter so we have added a cooldown to Blast while increasing its damage. In addition, to achieve our job balancing goals of lowering the effectiveness of jobs with many high utility skills, some skills have been adjusted. When using blunt objects, you will receive extra effects.

KMST 1.2.010

  • Weapon Booster: cast delay has been decreased
  • Restoration: the effectiveness reduction of the heal when used consecutively has been increased from -5% per usage to -10%
  • Combat Orders: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 200 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
  • Blast: damage has been increased from 318% to 488%, buff duration has been decreased from 45 seconds to 10 seconds, in addition to existing effects Blast now has a 10 second cooldown
  • Paladin Expert: bonuses when using a blunt weapon have been increased from 5% defense ignore to 10% defense ignore and 5% maximum critical damage
  • Guardian Spirit: invincibility duration after being revived has been decreased from 20 seconds to 10 seconds
  • Elemental Force: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 200 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 2400ms to 1080ms, in addition to existing effects Elemental Force can now go past level 30 with the effects of Combat Orders

KMST 1.2.011

In the previous test server patch, we gave a cooldown to Blast so that Paladin’s combat pattern would be different. However this cooldown had adverse effects so we will be removing it.

  • Iron Body: duration has been decreased from 300 seconds to 200 seconds
  • Blast: buff duration has been increased from 10 seconds to 60 seconds, damage has been decreased from 488% to 318%, cooldown has been removed

KMST 1.2.012

Paladins do not use Sanctuary very often so we have updated it a bit, and their hits per second are low so we have increased Blast’s number of hits.

  • Sanctuary: cast delay has been decreased from 2760ms to 1380ms
  • Blast Blast: damage has been decreased from 318% to 290%, number of hits has been increased from 7 to 8, buff duration has been increased from 60 seconds to 90 seconds

Hero

KMST 1.2.011

Hero has different skills and damage calculation procedures compared to other characters, so we adjusted Chance Attack. We also changed Combo Attack’s effect to be more stylish.

  • Iron Body: duration has been decreased from 300 seconds to 200 seconds
  • Weapon Mastery: in addition to existing effects, Weapon Mastery now gives 5% damage if you are equipping an Axe
  • Rage: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 200 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 1920ms to 1080ms
  • Weapon Booster: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 200 seconds, cast delay has been decreased
  • Combo Attack: effect has been changed
  • Chance Attack: damage calculation order has been adjusted
  • Enrage: duration has been removed (now an on/off skill)
  • Rage Uprising: cast delay has been decreased from 2520ms to 2010ms

KMST 1.2.012

Hero’s Combo Attack ability did not have much use in 2nd job and so we have added some functionality. And their hits per second are low so have increased Raging Blow’s hits while Enrage is active.

  • Combo Attack: in addition to existing effects, Combo Attack now gives 2 attack per Combo Count
  • Enrage: fixed an error where Enrage could be used without any Combo Count
  • Raging Blow: instead of Raging Blow’s damage being increased while Enrage is active, Raging Blow will now deal 215% damage 7 times while Enrage is active (last two hits will still be critical hits)

Dark Knight

KMST 1.2.011

Dark Knights have a narrow attack range so we adjusted Dark Impale’s range accordingly. In addition, although it has a small usage window, Gungnir Descent has a relatively low number of hits per second so we increased its number of hits.

  • Iron Body: duration has been decreased from 300 seconds to 200 seconds
  • Weapon Mastery: in addition to existing effects, Weapon Mastery now gives 2 attack speed boost if you are equipping a Spear
  • Weapon Booster: cast delay has been decreased
  • Iron Will: duration has been decreased from 240 seconds to 200 seconds
  • Hyper Body: duration has been decreased from 300 seconds to 200 seconds
  • Chain Cross Over Chain: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 200 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 1260ms to 1080ms
  • Dark Impale: attack range has been changed to match its effect
  • Gungnir Descent: damage has been decreased from 312% to 250%, number of hits has been increased from 8 to 10
  • Sacrifice: cast delay has been decreased from 2280ms to 1080ms
  • Dark Synthesis: damage has been increased from 300% to 330%, number of monsters hit has been increased from 8 to 10, cooldown has been increased from 8 seconds to 10 seconds
  • Dark Thirst: HP healed has been changed from 100% of damage done to monsters to 6% of your maximum HP, attack boost has been increased from 60 to 80

KMST 1.2.012

We wanted to reduce the performance differences between the two weapons by letting Weapon Mastery increase attack speed while equipping a Spear but it was a large buff so Polearms became useless. We think Spears should still be buffed so we have decreased the attack speed boost but added a damage boost. We fixed some Drain skills which we missed in previous patches.

  • Lord of Darkness: HP healed has been changed from % of damage done to monsters to % of your maximum HP
  • Beholder’s Revenge: HP healed has been changed from 10% of damage done to monsters to 5% of your maximum HP
  • Weapon Mastery: attack speed boost while wearing a Spear has been decreased from 2 stages to 1 stage, you will now gain 5% damage while wearing a Spear (in addition to the attack speed boost)

KMST 1.2.013

Dark Knight’s drain skills’ effectiveness have been raised in order to take full advantage of Cross Over Chain’s damage boost.

  • Lord of Darkness: chance to heal has been increased from 20% to 100%, HP healed has been decreased from 10% max HP to 5% max HP
  • Dark Thirst: HP healed has been increased from 6% max HP to 9% max HP

Archmage (Fire/Poison)

KMST 1.2.010

Archmages (F/P) combine the effects of 5 DoTs to increase the power of Mist Eruption but after the addition of Mist Eruption – Cooltime Reduce, their damage became too high. Therefore, we have decreased the cooldown reduction from that Hyper Skill but we have increased the strength of Megiddo Flame.

  • Magic Guard: duration has been decreased from 600 seconds to 240 seconds
  • Magic Booster: duration has been increased from 200 seconds to 240 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
  • Meditation: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 240 seconds

Bishop

Bishop has many utility skills, which is intended, but because they do not have cooldowns, they can be used continuously and undermine the suspense of battle. Therefore, certain skills have had cooldowns added with conditions which allow you to reduce them. In addition, to fix some complaints from users, elemental resistance ignore has been added to Vengeance of Angel.

  • Magic Guard: duration has been decreased from 600 seconds to 240 seconds
  • Magic Booster: duration has been increased from 200 seconds to 240 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
  • Invincible: duration has been decreased from 300 seconds to 240 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 1800ms to 1080ms
  • Heal: Heal now has a cooldown of 4 seconds, for each party member healed the cooldown will be decreased by 2 seconds
  • Dispel: Dispel now has a cooldown of 8 seconds, for each party member whose statuses are treated the cooldown will be decreased by 4 seconds
  • Holy Symbol: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 240 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms, bonus experience rate will now be shown in the skill description
  • Divine Protection: cast delay has been decreased from 2880ms to 1290ms
  • Genesis: cast delay has been decreased from 1800ms to 900ms
  • Resurrection: users being revived will now receive 3 seconds of invincibility

Bishops use Angel Ray continuously as their main attack and it heals even more than Heal so we have decreased its HP healing abilities slightly. In addition, Big Bang’s effect has been changed.

  • Heal: damage boost from debuff has been decreased from 20% to 10%, debuff duration has been decreased from 6 seconds to 2 seconds

  • Angel Ray: HP healed has been changed from 90% of your damage to 15% of your (or your party member’s) maximum HP

Big Bang’s effect was very annoying because it blocked users, so we have moved it behind the character. Also, when you use Vengeance of Angel, you lose the ability to Teleport while using Angel Ray so we have fixed that.

In order to make Arrow Platter more efficient, we have decreased its cooldown. And Hurricane – Reinforce’s damage boost will now apply to Arrow Platter’s turret. Armor Piercing’s skill description was very long and did not state the delay between activations, so we have improved it. In addition, because of this delay combined with its activation rate it was inefficient, so we have changed the skill a bit.

  • Arrow Platter: installed turret’s duration has been decreased from 15 seconds to 10 seconds, installed turret’s cooldown has been decreased from 30 seconds to 15 seconds
  • Armor Piercing: final damage boost based on enemy’s defense rate has been decreased from 400% to 100%, activation rate and stacking system have been removed, this skill now has a 100% activation rate but has a reactivation cooldown of 1 second (hard to explain but basically, it will let you ignore defense and deal extra damage based on the enemy’s defense rate on one attack then go on cooldown for 1 second)
  • Hurricane – Reinforce: damage boost has been increased from 20% to 25%, damage boost now applies to Arrow Platter and it’s installed turret

Viper needed some buffs to make up for the fact that it is a job which is always high risk due to its melee attacks. In a previous test server update, we added the ability to use Double Spiral during other skills but removed it because there were many fatal errors. This time, we would like to fix the problem by bringing it back and increasing the effectiveness of Nautilus with a new effect.

  • Mental Clarity: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
  • Knuckle Booster: duration has been decreased from 200 seconds to 180 seconds
  • Double Spiral: this skill can now be used during other skills but if you do, it will go on cooldown for 10 seconds, this skill now passively increases Screw Punch’s damage by 100%

  • Willow Defensive: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
  • Battleship Nautilus: damage has been increased from 520% to 1020%, cast delay has been decreased from 3420ms to 900ms, this skill no longer activates Damage Reflect, cooldown has been changed to 60 seconds at all levels, after using this skill your attacks will have a 50% chance to have an additional hit of 200% damage for 40 seconds

  • Journey Home: Borrow Shinsoo’s aura to return to the side of the Empress. There is a cooldown of 30 minutes.
  • Elemental Expert: Your mastery over the elements increases your attack and magic attack by 10%. This skill is unlocked after your fourth job advancement.
  • Guardian of Light: Stance effect has been removed, Guardian of Light now creates a shield for 15/30 seconds which absorbs the damage of up to 3/6 attacks (for % HP attacks, their damage will be reduced by 10%/20%) and increases your damage by 15%/20%. The shield (and the damage boost) will disappear after it absorbs 3/6 attacks. There is a cooldown of 180 seconds. (max level: 2) (Link Skill)
  • Will of the Alliance: this skill is now unlocked by the quest “The Alliance’s Birth” instead of through a quest at level 200

  • Royal Guard: Using the Soul Shield, completely nullify enemy attacks’ damage and counterattack. (max level: 1)

All Cygnus jobs have a skill which gives elemental resistance ignore, giving them a large advantage in boss battles over many other jobs. This skill has been changed in order to balance the Knights of Cygnus. In addition, Soul Master’s utility skills have had some of their effectiveness decreased.

  • Elemental Expert: elemental resistance ignore effect has been removed, this skill now gives 10% attack and magic attack
  • True Sight: elemental resistance reduction effect has been removed (True Sight – Enhance’s effect will remain the same)
  • Soul Penetration: cooldown has been increased from 120 seconds to 180 seconds
  • Solunar Time: cast delay has been removed
  • Soul Forge: duration has been decreased from 200 seconds to 180 seconds
  • Cross the Styx: when charged fully, number of hits has been increased from 6 to 15, cooldown has been decreased from 90 seconds to 45 seconds, using another skill while charging will now cancel the charge

After removing Soul Master’s ability to ignore elemental resistances, their damage became very low. Therefore, we have increased some of their numbers.

  • Falling Moon: damage has been increased from 55% to 60%, cast delay has been removed

  • Unforeseeable: in addition to existing effects, Unforeseeable now increases your damage to bosses by 15%

  • Soul Master has very low resistance to statuses and elements, even compared to other melee warriors, so we have increased it.

    After the last test server patch, Flame Wizard’s damage became very low due to the changes to Orbital Flame. To fix this, we have changed around Orbital Flame’s Hyper skills.

    To mitigate the differences between Staves and Wands, you will now gain attack speed when using a Wand.

    • Element: Storm: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 200 seconds
    • Bow Expert: in addition to existing effects, Bow Expert now gives 35% boss damage
    • Monsoon: cooldown has been decreased from 90 seconds to 45 seconds

    After removing Wind Breaker’s ability to ignore elemental resistances, their damage became very low. Therefore, we have increased some of their numbers.

This skill has been changed in order to balance the Knights of Cygnus. Night Walker has other resistance ignore skills which make it too strong so some skills have been adjusted. However, removing jump cancelling would remove a unique combat pattern so that will remain unchanged.

    • Elemental Expert: elemental resistance ignore effect has been removed, this skill now gives 10% attack and magic attack
    • Shadow Bats: HP healed has been changed from 5% of damage done to monsters to 2% of your maximum HP
    • Rapid Evasion: cooldown of 5 seconds has been added
    • Element: Darkness: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 900ms
    • Bat Communion: HP recovery rate boost has been removed
    • Bat Communion II: HP recovery rate boost has been removed
    • Bat Communion III: HP recovery rate boost has been removed

    Striker’s combat pattern had many inconveniences associated with its various buffs. Without changing the pattern, we fixed some of these annoyances.

    • Element: Lightning: Thunder buffs can no longer be debuffed

    • Electric Charge: in addition to existing effects, when you use Thunder buffs, this skill’s cooldown will be decreased by 6 seconds

    Aran

    We want to increase Aran’s combat efficiency without significantly affecting their combat pattern. Combo Tempest has been changed so that it is more useful in battle without having such a high cooldown.

    After increasing Cerberus’ cooldown, Demon Slayers found it hard to keep their Demon Force up. Therefore, we have reduced the range of Cerberus but decreased its cooldown. We have also changed Demon Jump’s commands back to how they were before. In order to create a more diverse combat patter, we have made some other adjustments.

    • Demon Jump: commands have been changed back to what they were originally
    • Demon Trace: Force consumption has been increased from 10 to 20, cast delay has been increased from 600ms to 750ms
    • Devil Cry: debuff duration has been increased from 15 seconds to 20 seconds, cooldown has been decreased from 16 seconds to 14 seconds, cooldown reduction if Infinity Force is used has been decreased from 8 seconds to 7 seconds
    • Vampiric Touch: maximum heal at one time has been decreased from 50% of your maximum HP to 15% of your maximum HP, cooldown between heals has been decreased from 15 seconds to 5 seconds
    • Cerberus: attack range has been decreased, cooldown has been decreased from 10 seconds to 5 seconds
    • Will of Liberty: Force consumption has been decreased from 50 to 10

    KMST 1.2.012

    We fixed an error where using Demon Explosion continuously would cause the client to shut down and we have adjusted some of its drain skills.

    • Bloody Raven: cooldown has been increased from 5 seconds to 10 seconds
    • Demon Explosion: error where using this skill continuously would cause the client to shut down has been fixed
    • Vampiric Touch: maximum heal limit has been increased from 15% maximum HP to 25% maximum HP

    Demon Avenger

    KMST 1.2.010

    Although Demon Avenger can level up fast, it is difficult to reach the top rank. Since they use HP instead of AP, it is quite easy to reach the maximum HP cap so now if you would theoretically go past it, it will still affect your damage range. We also increased Execution’s number of hits to be more useful in boss battles. In addition, it was frustrating to have your Exceed stage reset if you switched between Exceed skills so we have removed that. Thousand Sword was adjusted to make it worth its long cooldown.

    • Demon Jump: commands have been changed (Double Jump – press jump while in the air, High Jump – press up + jump, Glide – hold down + jump while in the air and use left and right to choose directions)
    • Exceed: your Exceed stage will no longer reset if you use a different Exceed skill
    • Blood Contract: your damage will now scale based off your maximum HP instead of your current HP, however it will grant less damage per HP, it will also scale if your HP passes the maximum HP cap
    • Absorb Life: max HP recovery has been decreased from 5% to 3%
    • Demon Booster: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Demon Strike: your Exceed stacks will no longer reset to 1 if you use this skill after another Exceed skill
    • Diabolic Recovery: maximum HP boost has been decreased from 40% to 25%, cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Refract Evil: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Advanced Absorb Life: maximum HP recovery has been decreased 10% to 8%
    • Execution Exceed: Execution: damage has been decreased from 620% to 475%, number of hits has been increased from 3 to 4 (4 to 6 for Exceed state), defense ignore has been decreased from 30% to 15%, number of monsters hit has been decreased from 6 to 2
    • Shield Chasing: Exceed: Moonlight Slash’s damage boost has been increased from 30% to 110%
    • Overwhelming Power: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Thousand Sword: now increases your Overload by 5 stacks when used

    KMST 1.2.011

    An error where your stats were not being increased by additional HP has been fixed.

    • Demon Jump: commands have been changed back to what they were originally
    • Blood Contract: error where stats were not being increased by additional HP from equipment or skills has been fixed
    • Exceed: Execution: defense ignored has been increased from 15% to 30%

    KMST 1.2.012

    After reducing Demon Avenger’s drain abilities, it became hard to keep their HP up. We have adjusted Release Overload and made Exceed skills increase your Overload count even if you switch Exceed skills. In addition, we have increased the damage of some Exceed skills.

    • Exceed: while using an Exceed skill, using another Exceed skill will now increase your Overload count
    • Release Overload: cast delay has been removed
    • Shield Chasing: Exceed: Moonlight Slash’s damage boost has been increased from 110% to 330%p
    • Armor Break: in addition to existing effects, Armor Break now increases Exceed: Demon Strike’s damage by 155%p
    • Thousand Sword: HP consumption has been decreased from 15% to 5%

    KMST 1.2.013

    After reducing Demon Avenger’s Absorb Life’s healing, we have realized their difficulty of play has gone up significantly so we have made some changes to return to previous levels.

    • Exceed: Overload increase when using another Exceed skill during an Exceed skill has been decreased from 2 to 1
    • Absorb Life: HP healed has been increased 3% to 5% max HP
    • Advanced Absorb Life: HP healed has been increased from 8% to 10% max HP
    • Thousand Sword: HP consumption has been increased from 5% max HP to 15% max HP

    Battle Mage

    Battle Mage’s damage is very high with good control. We adjusted some skills to balance them but we want to keep their damage potential where it is.

    • Spell Boost: magic attack boost has been decreased from 30% to 20%
    • Battle Rage: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 600ms
    • Battle King Bar: cooldown has been increased from 9 seconds to 13 seconds

    The delays for all on/off skills have been removed.

    We have decreased Battle Mage’s Drain Aura’s HP healed when killing a monster.

    • Drain Aura: maximum HP healed on enemy kill has been decreased from 3% to 1%

    Wild Hunter

    Wild Hunter has extremely high damage because of Another Bite. We wanted to increase the difficulty of keeping Another Bite active so that we could tone down their damage while still allowing Wild Hunters with good control to use it efficiently.

    • Summon Jaguar: chance to inflict Another Bite with the Jaguar’s basic attacks has been decreased from 25% to 15%, Another Bite’s damage has been decreased from 80% base to 60% base, HP healing has been removed
    • Claw Cut: HP healed has been changed from 15% of damage done to monsters to 10% of your maximum HP, cooldown has been increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds, chance to inflict Another Bite has been decreased from 60% to 30%
    • Crossroad: cooldown has been increased from 6 seconds to 7 seconds
    • Sonic Boom: cooldown has been increased from 4 seconds to 6 seconds, chance to inflict Another Bite has been decreased from 60% to 40%
    • Extend Magazine: cast delay has been decreased from 1530ms to 900ms
    • Jaguar Soul: duration has been increased from 10 seconds to 20 seconds, cooldown has been increased from 120 seconds to 210 seconds, Jaguar Soul now shares timings with other binding skills
    • Wild Vulcan – Ignore Guard: defense ignore has been decreased from 20% to 10%
    • Flash Rain: attack range has been decreased, cooldown has been increased from 12 seconds to 14 seconds
    • Rampage as One: Another Bite stacks inflicted have been decreased from 3 to 1, cooldown has been increased from 12 seconds to 14 seconds
    • Silent Rampage: duration has been decreased from 60 seconds to 40 seconds, cooldown has been increased from 150 seconds to 160 seconds

    Wild Hunter’s damage was reduced through the last test server patch changes but it still had a high number of attacks per second. We have slightly reduced that by decreasing the number of hits on secondary attack skills.

    • Claw Cut: HP healed has been decreased from 10% to 7%
    • Assistant Hunting Unit: duration has been increased from 28 seconds to 31 seconds, attack time period has been decreased from 4 seconds to 3 seconds
    • Drill Container: cooldown has been increased from 25 seconds to 30 seconds

    Mechanic

    Mechanic’s combat pattern involves skills with very high damage and thus we had to lower some of them. In exchange, we increased the effectiveness of some lesser used skills.

    • Mechanic Dash: you can now grab on to a rope or ladder while using this skill
    • Gatling Shot: damage has been decreased from 100% to 90%
    • Mechanic Booster: duration has been decreased from 200 seconds to 180 seconds
    • Advanced Gatling Shot: damage has been decreased from 200% to 160%
    • Massive Fire SPLASH: damage has been decreased from 350% to 300%
    • Massive Fire IRON: damage has been decreased from 300% to 250%
    • Advanced Homing Missile: damage has been decreased from 500% to 440%
    • Over Tuning: duration has been increased from 150 seconds to 180 seconds
    • Massive Fire: SPLASH-F: damage has been decreased from 500% to 390%, attack speed has been decreased
    • Massive Fire: IRON-B: damage has been decreased from 305% to 295%, explosion damage has been decreased from 400% to 350%
    • War Machine: Titan: damage has been decreased from 1440% to 500%, number of hits has been increased from 1 to 8, monsters near the titan will now take 1300% damage 2 times every second, cooldown has been increased from 20 seconds to 30 seconds, number of key presses needed to charge the gauge has been decreased, attack range has been changed to match its effect, while using this skill you will now take 50% reduced damage
    • Dice Double Lucky Dice: duration has been decreased from 200 seconds to 180 seconds, cooldown has been decreased from 200 seconds to 180 seconds
    • Bomber Time: cooldown has been increased from 90 seconds to 100 seconds

    KMST 1.2.011

    We reduced Mechanic’s damage in the last test server patch but it is still too high so we have reduced Massive Fire: IRON-B’s number of hits. We also reduced the delays of a couple of skills we missed.

    • Overtuning: now has a cooldown of 90 seconds
    • Lucky Dice: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Massive Fire: IRON-B: damage has been decreased from 295% to 285%, number of hits has been decreased from 7 to 6
    • Double Lucky Dice: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms

    KMST 1.2.012

    In previous test server updates, we reduced Mechanic’s damage but it is still to high so we have adjusted it further. And to increase Titan’s effectiveness, we have adjusted its damage formula and damage reduction.

    • Rocket Booster: command has been removed
    • Overtuning: cooldown has been removed
    • Advanced Homing Missile: damage has been decreased from 440% to 395%
    • War Machine: Titan: damage formula has been changed to use the character’s damage instead of a summon’s, damage reduction while casting will now apply to % HP attacks
    • Massive Fire – Reinforce: damage boost has been decreased from 20% to 10%

    Xenon

    KMST 1.2.010

    Xenon does not have any of the issues we are targeting with this skill balancing so no direct damage changes were made. We did change some skills to fix inconveniences.

    • Xenon Booster: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Linear Perspective: Energy consumption has been decreased from 6 to 4
    • Pipeline Efficiency Pipeline: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Combat Switching: Shoot Down: number of hits has been increased from 1 to 2
    • Dual Breed Defensive: Energy consumption has been decreased from 10 to 7
    • Offensive Matrix: duration has been increased from 180 seconds to 240 seconds, cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • OOPARTs Code: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Confine Entangle: duration has been increased from 15 seconds to 20 seconds, Confine Entangle now shares timings with other binding skills
    • Meltdown Explosion: coldown has been decreased from 90 seconds to 50 seconds, defense reduction debuff’s duration has been decreased from 15 seconds to 10 seconds

    KMST 1.2.012

    To make Xenon’s Purge Lob Masquerade more effective, we have reduced its delays and we have also fixed some inconveniences of Triangle Formation.

    • Triangle Formation: this skill will no longer activate Damage Reflect
    • Purge Lob Masquerade: Snipe: cast delay has been decreased from 930ms to 900ms
    • Purge Lob Masquerade: Laser: cast delay has been decreased from 1260ms to 1020ms
    • Purge Lob Masquerade: Bomb: number of hits has been increased from 4 to 5, number of monsters hit has been increased from 12 to 15, cast delay has been decreased from 1440ms to 1200ms

    Kaiser

    KMST 1.2.010

    Kaiser is a job which is pretty well balanced, except for when a certain weapon is used. We changed some skills which felt uncomfortable and we will re-examine the data later if more changes need to be made when it comes to that weapon (Ryude’s Sword).

    • Blaze Up: cast delay has been decreased
    • Petrified: Petrified will no longer damage monsters that use Damage Reflect
    • Infernal Breath: Infernal Breath’s damage over time will no longer damage monsters that use Damage Reflect
    • Robust Armor: cast delay has been decreased from 1500ms to 990ms
    • Prominence: cooldown has been decreased from 90 seconds to 60 seconds

    Angelic Buster

    Angelic Buster’s biggest problem is the lack of number of hits over time. Therefore, we are increasing their main skills’ number of hits.

    • Power Transfer: cast delay has been decreased
    • Pink Scud: will now move you even if there are no monsters in front of you
    • Soul Seeker: cast delay has been increased from 810ms to 900ms
    • Trinity: damage has been decreased from 1600% to 800%, number of hits has been increased from 1 to 2
    • Soul Gaze: cast delay has been decreased from 1140ms to 1080ms
    • Soul Seeker Expert: damage ratio has been increased from 70% to 75%
    • Trinity – Split Attack: damage has been decreased from 950% to 650%, number of hits has been increased from 2 to 3
    • Super Nova: damage has been decreased from 800% to 600%, number of hits has been increased from 1 to 3, cooldown has been decreased from 90 seconds to 65 seconds

    Zero

    Zero has a high level of combat efficiency because of its high skill damages so we have tuned them down. We have also reduced the effectiveness of some of their utility skills.

    • Time Distortion: cooldown has been increased, Time Distortion is no longer affected by cooldown resets
    • Time Rewind: cooldown has been increased, Time Rewind is no longer affected by cooldown resets
    • Shadow Rain: cooldown has been increased, Shadow Rain is no longer affected by cooldown resets
    • Tachi Mastery: attack boost has been decreased from 50 to 40, defense ignore has been decreased from 50% to 30%
    • Flash Assaulter: damage has been decreased from 360% to 305%
    • Rolling Assaulter: damage has been decreased from 650% to 550%
    • Advanced Rolling Assaulter: damage has been decreased from 800% to 680%
    • Spin Cutter: damage has been decreased from 420% to 355%

    After the last test server patch, Zero’s Time Holding’s ability to reset skill cooldowns became ineffective so Time Distortion and Shadow Rain can once again be reset. Their damage and utility are still high so we have made a few more changes to slightly reduce them.

    • Rapid Time – Detect: critical chance per stack has been decreased from 3% to 2%
    • Time Distortion: cooldown has been decreased to 240 seconds, this skill can once again be affected by cooldown resets
    • Shadow Rain: Beta’s damage has been decreased from 1800% to 1400%, cooldown has been increased to 300 seconds, this skill can once again be affected by cooldown resets
    • Divine Leer: HP healed has been decreased from 10% to 5%, DoT damage duration has been decreased from 15 seconds to 10 seconds
    • Immune Barrier: duration has been decreased from 15 seconds to 5 seconds
    • Critical Bind: monsters’ resistance time has been increased from 15 seconds to 20 seconds

    KMST 1.2.012

    Zero’s Throwing Weapon’s damage will now use the character’s damage formula instead of a summon’s. We have also increased Alpha’s resistance to statuses and elements and fixed an error with many skills which would deal damage and activate Damage Reflect.

    • Reinforce Body: in addition to existing effects, Reinforce Body increases your resistance to statuses and elements by 10%
    • Solid Body: resistance to statuses and elements has been decreased from 50% to 40%
    • Shadow Strike : intermittent error where the afterattack would activate Damage Reflect has been fixed
    • Advanced Spin Cutter : intermittent error where the afterattack would activate Damage Reflect has been fixed
    • Advanced Rolling Curve: intermittent error where the afterattack would activate Damage Reflect has been fixed
    • Assaulter Advanced Rolling Assaulter: intermittent error where the afterattack would activate Damage Reflect has been fixed
