DotA2 Abaddon Skill Build Guide

Dota2 AbaddonDotA2 Abaddon (Lord of Avernus): The Font of Avernus is the source of a family’s strength, a crack in primal stones from which vapors of prophetic power have issued for generations. Each newborn of the cavernous House Avernus is bathed in the black mist, and by this baptism they are given an innate connection to the mystic energies of the land. They grow up believing themselves fierce protectors of their lineal traditions, the customs of the realm–but what they really are protecting is the Font itself. And the motives of the mist are unclear. When the infant Abaddon was bathed in the Font, they say something went awry. In the child’s eyes there flared a light of comprehension that startled all present and set the sacerdotes to whispering. He was raised with every expectation of following the path all scions of Avernus took–to train in war, that in times of need he might lead the family’s army in defense of the ancestral lands. But Abaddon was always one apart. Where others trained with weapons, he bent himself to meditation in the presence of the mist. He drank deep from the vapors that welled from the Font, learning to blend his spirit with the potency that flowed from far beneath the House; he became a creature of the black mist. There was bitterness within the House Avernus–elders and young alike accusing him of neglecting his responsibilities. But all such accusations stopped when Abaddon rode into battle, and they saw how the powers of the mist had given him mastery over life and death beyond those of any lord the House had ever known.

Abaddon Skills

Mist Coil Mist Coil (Active)
Targetting Method: Unit | Allowed Targets: Allied or Enemy Unit
Abaddon releases a coil of death that can damage an enemy unit or heal a friendly unit at the cost of some of Abaddon’s health.
Range: 800
Self Damage: 75 / 100 / 125 / 150
Target Damage or Heal: 100 / 150 / 200 / 250
Mana Cost: 50 / 60 / 70 / 80
Cooldown Time: 5

Notes

  • The self damage is pure damage.
  • Abaddon can deny himself with this ability.
  • Self damage from Mist Coil is absorbed by Aphotic Shield.
  • Self damage can trigger Borrowed Time when dropping below 400 health with it. Borrowed Time also turns the self damage into a heal.
  • Damages or Heals the target before damaging Abaddon. Means if he denies himself with this and gets a kill, he does get the experience.
  • Can be cast on siege creeps.
  • Can be cast on Spell Immune allies. Self damage is not blocked.
  • The self damage does not trigger Linken’s Sphere on Abaddon.
Aphotic Shield Aphotic Shield (Active)
Targetting Method: Unit | Allowed Targets: Allied units/Self
Summons dark energies around an ally unit, creating a shield that absorbs a set amount of damage before expiring. When the shield is destroyed it will burst and deal damage equal to the amount it absorbed to an area around it. Removes certain types of negative buffs and stuns on cast.
Cast Range: 500
Damage Radius: 675
Max Damage: 110 / 140 / 170 / 200
Duration: 15
Mana Cost: 100 / 105 / 110 / 115
Cooldown Time: 12 / 10 / 8 / 6

Notes

  • Applies a strong dispel on the target upon cast.
  • Absorbs damage after all reductions. Means in conjunction with e.g. Borrowed Time or Refraction, Aphotic Shield won’t absorb the damage.
  • The only exception here would be Living Armor where the shield absorbs the damage before the armor blocks it, but the armor still loses a charge.
  • Fully negates the damage, preventing the following spells and items to trigger, get disabled or do their effects:
  • Blade Mail, Blink Dagger, Cold Snap, Heart of Tarrasque, Life Drain, Mjollnir, Open Wounds, Orchid Malevolence and Soul Assumption.
  • The following effects still react on the negated damage:
  • Bottle, Clarity, Echo Stomp, Fatal Bonds, Feast, Living Armor, Healing Salve, Nightmare, Psi Blades, Recall, Sticky Napalm, Tranquil Boots, Urn of Shadows, splash from Elder Dragon Form, Mass Serpent Ward and Black Dragons and any lifesteal.
  • A unit cannot have 2 Aphotic Shields active at the same time. Recasting it on the same unit removes the previous shield and places a new one.
  • Losing the Aphotic Shield buff will always cause it to burst and deal AoE damage, no matter how the shield was lost.
  • The area damage is independant from the amount of absorbed damage. It will always deal the full 110 / 140 / 170 / 200 damage.
  • Does not deal damage to invisible units or units in the Fog of War.
  • Can be cast on siege creeps.
  • Becoming Spell Immune does not remove the buff.
  • If purged, it will explode and deal damage in its radius.
Curse of Avernus Curse of Avernus (Passive)
Abaddon strikes an enemy with chilling power on each attack, causing all units who attack the slowed enemy to gain increased movement speed, along with faster attack speed, for a limited time.
Move Speed Slow: 5% / 10% / 15% / 20%
Attack Speed Slow: 5 / 10 / 15 / 20
Move Speed Bonus:15%
Attack Speed Bonus: 10 / 20 / 30 / 40
Slow Duration: 2.5
Bonus Duration: 4.5

Notes

  • Abaddon places the slow debuff on enemies as his attack lands, including on buildings, but excluding wards.
  • Abaddon and every allied unit which is not a tower or a ward will get the buff when they start attacking the slowed unit.
  • Abaddon himself gets the buff even when attacking units which do not have the debuff on, except when attacking buildings. He only gets the buff when attacking a debuffed building.
  • Means on his first hit on a building, he does not get the buff, but places the debuff. Now that the building has the debuff, the next attack on it will grant Abaddon the buff.
  • The attack speed slow does affect buildings. Wards, however, are completely unaffected by Curse of Avernus. They are neither slowed nor grant the buff when attacked.
  • Attacking allies does not place the debuff on them. However, attacking allies who have the debuff from an enemy Abaddon will place the buff.
  • Illusions cannot place the debuff on enemies, but they do get the buff when starting an attack.
Borrowed Time Borrowed Time (Active)
Targetting Method: Instant
When activated, most negative buffs will be removed and any damage you take will heal instead of damaging you. If the ability is not on cooldown, it will passively activate when your hitpoints drop below a certain threshold.
Radius: 0 (900*)
Health Threshold: 400
Redirected Damage: 0 (35%*)
Duration: 4 / 5 / 6 (5 / 6 / 7*)
Cooldown Time: 60 / 50 / 40

Notes

  • Borrowed Time has an instant cast time, but interrupts Abaddon’s channeling spells upon cast. Does not interrupt channeling spells when passively activated.
  • Disjoints projectiles upon activating, be it manually or passively activated.
  • Applies a Strong Dispel on Abaddon upon activating.
  • Activates automatically when a damage instance drops his health below 400. The damage is dealt before Borrowed Time gets activated through it.
  • This means when a damage instance is higher than his current health, he dies without Borrowed Time getting activated.
  • The health loss from Heartstopper Aura does not trigger Borrowed Time when reaching the threshold. However, it is treated as damage, and thus heals Abaddon.
  • Is neither passively triggered by, nor is healed by HP removal. This means it won’t heal from e.g. Armlet of Mordiggian, or the delayed damage from False Promise.
  • Negates and heals for the damage after all reductions and amplifications, except for Aphotic Shield and Living Armor which do not reduce any damage during Borrowed Time.
  • Fully negates the damage, preventing the following spells to trigger, get disabled or do their effects:
  • Aphotic Shield, Cold Snap, Life Drain, Living Armor, Open Wounds, Psi Blades, Soul Assumption, Vampiric Aura, splash from Mass Serpent Ward and Black Dragons and any lifesteal from items.
  • The following effects still react on the negated damage:
  • Echo Stomp, Fatal Bonds, Feast, Nightmare, Recall, Sticky Napalm, and splash from Elder Dragon Form.
  • Borrowed Time does not save Abaddon from the killing blows of Culling Blade and Ice Blast. Ice Blast also prevents getting healed by it.
  • The damage redirection granted by Aghanim’s Scepter is an aura and thus the buff lingers for 0.5 seconds.
  • However, the healing buff on Abaddon does not linger, so the damage redirected in those 0.5 seconds are not healed, means Abaddon takes damage and can even die to that (counts as getting denied).
  • An Aghanim’s Scepter upgraded Doom prevents Borrowed Time from passively activating when reaching the threshold.
  • Borrowed Time can be activated even if Abaddon is disabled.
  • Increases duration and redirects 35% of all damage dealt to nearby allied heroes in a 900 unit radius to Abaddon when active.
