Delux M618 Ergonomic Vertical Wired Mouse Review

Hi guys! Today I’ll be performing a review on an ergonomic vertical mouse which is the Delux M618, manufactured by a Chinese company known as DeluxWorld (www.deluxworld.com). A wireless version of this mouse is available for purchase too. The wired mouse is priced approximately 18 USD (80 MYR) whereas the wireless mouse is priced around 22 USD (93 MYR). It also comes with a silicone rubber mouse cover as the M618 accessory but purchased separately for 6 USD (24 MYR). This mouse can be purchased via AliExpress, Amazon or from your local shop if they have it in stock.

What makes this mouse unique compared to regular mouse is that it supports the users hand in an upright neutral posture. As a result, it avoids twisting the forearm, provides better comfort and relieving wrist pain. This mouse design is similar to the Evoluent Vertical Mouse but priced a third of the cost, making it affordable for wider budget audiences. Before diving into the details, let’s take a glance of the mouse features and specifications!

Intro: The feeling of using Delux M618 mouse is similar to holding a joystick and using the arm to move the mouse cursor. This vertical mouse design helps to prevent common hand symptoms such as hand numbness, wrist pain (Carpal Tunnel), elbow stiffness and hand weakness.

Packaging

Packaging-1: Here is a look at the sides of the Delux M618 Mouse packaging. The left side of the box shows a diagram of the fingers positioned on the mouse. The right diagram shows how our bones aren’t twisted when using this ergonomic vertical mouse. The description says “Traditional Mouse: Not good for fingers and arm. Vertical Mouse: Make the fingers and arm flexible and sensitive.”

Packaging-2: On the back of the box, there is a diagram displaying the 6 physical features of this mouse. Starting from top left to bottom right: (1) DPI Button to switch to 3 different mouse cursor speed, (2) Hold feeling more relaxed, protect user’s hands, (3) Scroll Wheel good and convenient for browsing the webpage, (4) More than 3 million mouse click lifetime, (5) Detachable wrist rest to suit different mouse usage. Delicate touch feeling and accurate positioning, (6) Forward/Backward buttons for Internet browsing convenience.

Packaging-3: Here is a view of the top of the box. Note: There are 2 types of packaging: Brown Box or Box with plastic contour that reveals the mouse.

Packaging-4: Unboxing the Delux M618 box reveals the contents tucked in a plastic bubble wrap.

Packaging-5: The contents of this package is the mouse itself with a hardwired cable with USB connector, some paper and a “Thank you Gift” from the reseller of this Delux M618 Mouse.

Packaging-6: Here is the another packaging that contains the silicone rubber mouse cover for this mouse. This mouse cover has several small hemisphere (half-sphere) bulges that is positioned at specific points of our palm based on Chinese medicine acupuncture to aid in relaxing and massaging.

Packaging-7: The sides of the mouse cover box displays the DeluxWorld contact methods (phone number, e-mail) and a URL to their official website.

Packaging-8: This is the rubber glove for the mouse, one of the accessories that comes in the other packaging (purchased separately). It comes in 4 different colors: Black, White, Orange and Blue. Silicone material is used to manufacture this mouse cover. It is easy to use and clean with water.

Design

Design-1: The mouse has both left and right buttons bulging out, which provides a better sound click and response to the user. It has a scroll wheel which feels great with some resistance (not too slippery). It protrudes out for better lengthier scrolling with our index finger or middle finger.

Design-2: The rear of the mouse glance reveals rubber grip for the palm and wrist, a DPI button on top to quickly switch between 3 mouse cursor speed modes, and 2 buttons for Internet browsing. The thumb area is pretty small, so I find myself accidentally clicking them when I’m lifting the mouse and grabbing the mouse.

Design-3: The Delux M618 mouse’s bottom comes with Teflon UPE super slipery mat for easy sliding on desktop. It uses “Laser Engine” performance sensor. When mouse USB connector is plugged to the computer, it does not display any red LED lights.

Design-4: Here is another look at the mouse’s bottom with the skid-proof wrist rest removed. Just slide it in to reinstall or slide it out to remove. For wireless version, there will be a slot beneath to install double AAA batteries and has a built-in Nano USB Receiver for you to plug and play.

Design-5: The mouse cable has a USB connector to connect to your computer either in USB 1.0/2.0/3.0. The cable measures 60 inches in length which is great when mouse is required to be used far away from PC. It has a ferrite core (black cylinder bead) to reduce electromagnetic interference produced by cable.

Design-6: At a closer inspection, there is a small circular area for users to cutout to allow mouse cable to pass through. I used a scissor and penknife to make a small cut instead of cutting out the rubber piece for the cable to pass through.

Design-7: Here is an overview of the Delux M618 mouse with the rubber glove on. It has several of these mini blunt cones also known as the massage particles, created based on basis of traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture point method of holographic medical theory.

Design-8: The silicone rubber mouse cover also has cutouts for the DPI button and for the Internet Browsing buttons. It covers the mouse entirely except for the wrist rest.

Testing and Conclusion

After using this Delux M618 mouse for a couple of days, I found that the mouse is best used without the silicone mouse glove since it’s a little hassle to get a feel of my fingers are correctly positioned on the mouse buttons instead of the mini half sphere. I prefer to use without the wrist rest so I could switch to different mouse grasping modes (clutch or claw). Claw mode for precise image/video editing in Photoshop or Sony Vegas (with wrist on the table) or Clutch mode for relaxing browsing mode (with entire palm on the mouse). The Internet Browser buttons (forward/backward) is quite close to my thumb and I would prefer if they were further apart to avoid accidentally pressing them when lifting the mouse up to re-position or when I start grabbing it to move mouse. The build quality feels great when using it. However, the rubber grip texture can still be improved on. Delux M618 mouse buttons are placed just right: not too low (Wowpen mouse) or too high (Evoluent mouse), and it is shaped that your palm grip the mouse similarly to holding your favorite sandwich wrap or a joystick. If you are looking for an ergonomic vertical mouse that alleviates and prevents hand symptoms especially Carpal tunnel, this is one of the mouse you should put into your buying list. I have provided a list of pros and cons to summarize my review of this mouse below which you can use to decide to purchase this mouse!

Pros

  • Comfortable usage for long hours.
  • Zero strain on wrist as pressure is shifted to the side of our soft palm.
  • Detachable wrist rest that provides better glide and different mouse usage.
  • M618 mouse has a small lip to support the pinky finger.
  • Has 2 versions: wired (USB connector) or wireless (2 x AAA batteries provided).

Cons

  • Internet Browser buttons is too close to thumb area.
  • Bulky (50% larger than regular mouse in dimension) and slightly heavy (200 grams).
  • Requires more space to move mouse around unless using high DPI mouse cursor.
  • Elbow maintain 80~90 degree angle for better comfort usage.
  • Non-ambidextrous mouse. The mouse design only supports right-handed users.
